Painting on CLAY

Jun 02, 2021
Hello, it's me normally on my channel. I'm concentrating on

painting

things, whether it's a flat surface or an element that has already been formed. It's a bag. He's a softy. It's a stone. And I just paint it. That's what I like to do today. I'm going to branch out a little bit and try sculpting now, now, now, I'm not good at this, I've dabbled in

clay

, just dabbling in like high school art class and then there was the whole pottery wheel experience which wasn't very good at all, me and

clay

disagree a bit, but today I want to give it another chance.

I've realized that I'm not that interested in polymer clay because that involves sculpting, which I'm not very good at, and baking, which I'm not very good at. I'm not very good at this, but I've been thinking a lot about air dry clay. You can add water and make it much smoother and easier to work with. Plus, you don't have to use the oven. The awful, awful oven. I get to paint it at the end, which is exciting for me because you know it's something I'm looking forward to. I did some research and found that many people seem to enjoy using this clay.

More Interesting Facts About,

I hope we are doing something. right, I don't know, heavy, let's get into sculpting and

painting

something, okay, so here's the clay, you know, I really like that flower over there, I'll do it, okay, okay, step by step. I'm going to lay down some wax paper for my work surface. I mean, it's not the prettiest, but it'll work fine, so let's cut this up and tear off a chunk or a bunch of chunks. This is when having long nails is not an advantage. Under the nails it's not a great feeling, let's just squish it a little just to warm it up I already feel like I don't know what I'm doing here how about a drink?

I'm just getting my hands wet and working on that. into the clay to make it nice and smooth and easier to work with, okay, yeah, it feels good, so what should I do? Flour, no, no, keep it simple, you know what this looks like, it's already a dough. What if I made a set of custom doughs? figurines oh yes, kind of like the one that started it all, but I hope it's much better than that. I need to work on smoothing this out a bit and getting the shape right. Okay, there's a proper drop shape that grabs another little piece of clay and I'm going to give it a kind of poop shape, a very soft wet poop, okay, gross, yeah, sorry, I'm just describing what I see here, what would you call that? and look what I found, this long lost bag of clay tools, this is the result of accumulating gifts and projects from different kits, I don't even know what all this is, I do know that they all have something to do with clay, so they will come out today, this is their time, except that one, I don't know.

I think that one belongs there. I'm going to use this to cut my poop in half and that will create my little hands. I remember my only clay project in my high school art class. You have to mark the pieces before. When joining them you only make small superficial cuts in the clay and that is supposed to give them a stronger bond, right? This looks great, sorry, let's try it again. Step one, roll into the shit. Step two, cut, turn in half, mark and mark and glue. Well, it seems like a more appropriate size for a hand, arm, or bump.
I still don't know what to call them. little appendages I also don't know why a butt crack is developing that is so immature, clearly there is a butt crack there and it needs to go away next. I'm going to place another piece of clay on the feet. These are not much different than the bumps on the arms of the hands I need to post a post to choose the correct terminology because I will oh my favorite part is watching the seams smooth out although I have no idea what I'm doing here it's Kinda satisfying to see, okay? and now I have the basic form completed next I'm going to start incorporating some facial details.
Oh, that's right, I'm doing some advanced sculpting now. It's funny, I'm going to give him a big open mouth smile so I need to completely unearth his mouth, I'm also creating eye sockets, that's scary, so I can put some little eyeballs in there, one is clearly bigger , I'm not a professional, this kind of looks like melting granny dough, I really wanted to add a big tongue in there, so let's move on. that instead is a dough with a tongue right there we're killing it and then I added some little dimples to give it a little more expression and I made some grooves for his eyebrows and then I realized there's no point in your eyebrows sticking out no they're indented so I added some 3D eyebrows to fix that and then it was just a lot of smoothing and trying to make this look decent I think that's good I like it so I went for dry and that's going to take a while and for a while I mean forever so we might as well work on something else in the meantime I have this I made it once I can do it again so I'm going to shape and smooth this until I have created this dough figure, it's as beautiful as a wet potato Now, a side note if you're wondering about that one clay project I did in my high school art class, no one, was this weird blue box I painted and held on to.
I went through it for years but it ended up breaking when I moved a couple of years ago along with a couple of other victims of that movement. This died. I just kicked him. Sometimes my clumsiness simply makes decisions for me. Anyway, I made his arms hang in front. here goes the face and I want to do a real blank stare with open mouth once I added the eyes it looked almost like a fish, a stunned fish and that's what I wanted, finally I want to add a nice accessory. I know how I am when it comes to those accessories.
I'm going to try to improve things here. Take on a bit more of a challenge and I'm trying to create a nice big bow. This was quite complicated. It is a thin and complicated shape. I want all the pieces. to stay together, but I can't really push them together too tightly or everything gets squished together. Pieces fell off. uh-oh, it was quite a delicate operation and at times a complete disaster. What's happening here, but I finally got things done. straightening after a little bit of final straightening, I think I'm happy with that, so you're going to join your friend here and dry it for a few days.
I need a fresh start here, let's get out some new wax paper. I'm basically a professional. Now honestly, making things with clay has been on my list of video ideas for a long time and I've been dreading it because I've had some issues in the past with clay, the only part of this I was really looking forward to was the painting, but I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would, in fact I didn't hate it at all, in fact I sort of really enjoyed it. I think starting simple helps rather than trying to do something that is way outside your skill level and ultimately landing in a puddle of sadness.
If you start simple, you're much more likely to have fun and be satisfied, and then you can. just keep building and adding more and more and get better and better now about that flower. I decided to try creating a small rose for my drop. It didn't turn out as beautiful and delicate as the one in the package, no, it's a bit. clumsier and thicker, but I was also making it in a fairly small size and it's also a flower appropriate for a dough. I gave this dough a nice, simple, happy face. I was getting a little tired at this point and didn't really want to.
Do anything crazy now, after letting them dry for about a day and a half, I had to turn them over because they had a wet bottom and let them dry like that for another day and a half or so, finally the clay is dry and ready for painting and it is It looks pretty decent, no major cracks or anything like that, although the surface is, you know, definitely not the smoothest, that's my lack of skill. I decided to try some very fine sandpaper and see if that helped smooth out those little ones. wrinkles and dimples, I'm not sure if this is something you're supposed to do with clay.
I thought I'd try it. I can't say it made a huge difference. I guess this is the best you can get. I finally painted this woo this is what I've been waiting for so I'm going to cook up two shades of green paint a lighter version and a darker version and here we go oh exciting can you feel it? I chose to use green because this spot reminds me of a frog, it must be that tongue, so I thought, "You know, let's go with it." I got up to see what it was and there it was, there was a damn frog screaming outside my window, maybe that's why I just created Froggy the blob frog.
I was getting subliminal messages from a literal frog outside and as you can see, I'm creating a little gradient here just to get a more interesting look with the paint job. Once this is done, we need to get some action with the tongue. What I mean is that we will paint the tongue starting on the inside of the mouth and then painting over that. tongue that is so cool to see, I don't know why but I just like it, it looks so good, maybe because the paint is so delicious looking, I always want to eat it and then seeing it on the tongue is something satisfying, it's like oh Anyway, I'm also adding a little bit of blush to her cheeks, which means that of course I have to re-blend the gradient that's in the background.
Yes, go ahead and create more work for yourself. I'm going to use a detail brush to clean up. around the edges, give it some freckles or frog freckles. He is a hybrid, so it is unknown where his traits come from. We'll also color her eyes and add some highlights to give her that wet look. Yes, I love it, last step. I'm pouring some varnish and I'm going to cover the entire piece to protect my paint work and give it a nice shine and here is my first completed clay creation, his name is froggy and I love him so much, I think this is great.
I mean, yes, it's simple but I feel very accomplished. It was actually very satisfying to form this completely out of nothing. Why am I trying to put my finger in his mouth? It shows that my skills may not be the best. The surface is a little rough. a little clumsy, but I'm not going to be too picky about it because this gives me joy, it's my little pet and I love it. Now enter a stunned fish. I went ahead and gave it a quick sand and it didn't hurt either. anything last time we're going for magenta on this one actually more purple than magenta a magenta purple actually more plum oh my gosh you see the color right above that face here comes the paint for some reason with this stain I knew right away that it had to be a stunned fish face with a giant bow and it had to be purple i don't know why i don't know where this idea came from or what i don't know i also did the same faded thing from light to dark on this one i did on froggy so that look good when all together as a set, I chose a bright golden yellow on the bow for a nice contrast.
I really like this color combination, it's so rich. And well, I'm giving her the classic rosy cheeks that I can never seem to resist doing a little shadow on the bun, which is kind of interesting because you know shadow is usually used to create the illusion of depth, this has real depth, But for some reason. I still feel the need to shade it now adding the little details, she's really coming to life now, oh adding the highlights and some little freckles, these are her puffer fish freckles, oh wait no not puffer fish, she's a fish puffer that should not be confused with the puffer fish. adding the glossy glaze and here it is, I love this one as much as the first one, it's quite a strange little thing, it also reminds me of a fruit like a plum, a drop of plum fish, it's a new species and I love it. her expression is too much, she's so cute, okay, and down to the last little one, this is the drop holding a rose and I'm going to take the golden yellow color from the bow of the plum fish drops and mix it with a deeper orange.
I want to keep the colors somewhat cohesive for the whole thing, so I didn't want to add another one at this point. I have to say that this stain is my least favorite of the three, it's cute and all, but compared to the other two, it's just not. I like him a lot, but that being said, he's going to be a valuable member of the trio, so let's give him his moment, okay, and I'm already adding his little cheeks, which were a little tricky, they kept wanting to go weird. brown color, no, don't do that and I just stuck with white for the rose because again I didn't want to introduce any new colors to this set and paint the very strange and thick stem with the frog green adding a small and simple freckles of the face give the rose a little shading, especially on the petals, as the white really lightens it.
We want to bring back some of that detail and finally add the white highlights, except, wow! No, I don't like those, it's okay there and in the polish, okay, final. full blob squad member I guess this is blob squad 2.0 because we can't forget them it's cute I really can't understand how he's holding on to that flower because it's actually kind of floating there but we can overlook the physics that here it is the final set, all together, are like my own custom figures andThey're so cute that I'm so pleased, in fact, it would break my heart if anything happened to them, so I hope they're not as fragile as my old ones.
Clay things. It's taken me years to try working with clay again, but I actually think this was my best experience with clay. I hope you.I enjoyed this video. Thank you very much for watching. See you next week. Bye bye.
