uh a gig came up at this club called brownies in new york city and they called us and it was my old band and we had only been together for about three weeks and we got each other and but we had this demo that we had done in the studio and all these guys were calling me oh your blue demo is amazing so this guy calls me from brownies like we have a concert uh we had a cancellation right? I wanted to come play so we drove from Atlanta to New York City to play and every person there there must have been 10 labels that were there and one of my friends, Jim Fallon, I don't know if you ever met Jim and Jimmy, yeah . yeah, old friend of mine, he was the boss of a ram, he came with one of my best friends, Dave, uh, knock Jim down, but everyone had heard these tapes and everything, so we got to the club and the sound man who normally it's there it's sick so you have some kind of substitute sound then it's our turn to play we go up and start playing and you can't hear anything monitors there are no monitors we're playing and then the guy's third song comes on and He forgot to put a snare mic in the right place so there's no snare mic and this was a big mess but I couldn't really tell because we didn't have monitors or anything so we couldn't really tell how bad it was. .

Anyway, my friend Nick Ferrara, who's a lawyer, Nick Camp, shows up and says, "Well, maybe we should talk about it tomorrow," and then my friend Dave comes up with Jim Fallon and he comes over and just shakes his head. head and me I said how was it and I said this well to quote Jim who came with me. I've seen worse, it was absolutely the

most

terrible thing ever and then it was like okay, we were basically dead in the music industry and we ended up getting a record. I agreed a year later, but we had to go and make a record on our own and it all goes to show you that you don't need gigs when you're absolutely not prepared, you know that, but I mean, you never know with these things, right?

There are guys it was just fate but it wasn't meant to happen and it's the adversity that's out there, it never sounds like you're supposed to be dealing with some kind of live adversity no matter what yeah I mean I have a great story about rick springfield, we had a spinal tap moment where we were at the buddha convention in japan doing several nights, it was just the biggest venue in tokyo or it was anyway and every band, every rock band, it has a big entrance, the open opening is the That's why the lumbar puncture works well, it's the

important moment in many ways, just those first few seconds when the lights come on, we go on stage and you know it's packed and I think you know there's some kind of intro music. playing and some smoke, well the boudicon technicians had gone overboard with the smoke to the point that when the lights came on there was nothing to see but smoke and I couldn't see, I couldn't even see my guitar that I was holding, so that we're playing the song basically blind from the smoke, I mean, I couldn't see that far, not just the first song but the second, it's completely, the audience sees nothing but a big cloud, Stonehenge fell, I mean, that was, but that was. something we laughed a lot about and finally the reveal when the smoke cleared and the audience is grateful to see us yeah we are very grateful to see them it was just amazing so Tim why are those the things you end up with ? remember for the rest of your life for me it's always the funny things, the absurd things, you don't remember the big concerts or I don't remember the big concerts, I just remember all the funny things that happened like that, it's just that you can.

I don't mean that you can pretty much control most things in life and when you lose control it's great, it's just great, yeah in hindsight it doesn't matter what you're going through or how hard it is, I mean when I didn't make it. to Corey's concert and I told my wife that she thought she made a mistake somehow, I mean, she was mad, you know, and then I said, honey, no, I didn't. What do you mean you couldn't make it to the concert? Another thing happened at Rick's concert. concert that was incredible we were near the end of a tour and we were in Phoenix getting ready to play after the sound check and after Phoenix comes the, which is five nights at the Universal Amphitheater, where all the people you know and all the the people of the universe live some famous people it's the pressure concert you know the concert you're waiting for and this time it was the end of the tour so I'm in Phoenix we do our soundcheck and I get back on the bus and You know how buses go up their steps to the You walk towards you so you open the door Yes, you walk to the first step I close the door but as I close it I balance on the step with my thumb stuck Get out the door, oh God mine, so do you know what a bus door looks like?

It's flush metal with no gap, no gap either, that's true, so I basically close the bus door with my thumb, oh my god, totally closed, click sealed. oh my god, so I open it again and it's crushed, you know, the nail and everything, so straight to the emergency room, I go there, they look at it and they go, yeah, you crushed your thumb, we'll bandage it, send me. I came back and all these thoughts are going through my head. Am I going to have to do without myself? What I am going to do?
