One More Box Design Using Easel Box Maker Classic AppMar 17, 2022
welcome to the pawpaw workshop in my continued effort to try to get
moreorganized i needed to make some compartments if you like with dividers that i can adjust so i can fit
moreor less screws nuts and bolts and that is going to make my organization and the drawers much better because I have a mess right now and literally had to open almost every container to find what I needed. I wanted to get that over with so today I'm making a box
easelsoftware and the
makerapp so I can do it let's start supporting my channel go to patreon.com pawpaw's workshop I want to thank all my patreons your support makes all the difference in the world to me being able to produce these videos and these drawers are a neatly organized mess that's true yes it's broken into parts but i have to open almost every box to being able to find the item i want and i am tired of doing that so today. and i want to be able to go ahead and show you how to make an organizer so that you can see the different screws and nuts and bolts or whatever you want to put in these bins and you can change their size by sliding these little dividers that you can make the curve either bigger or more small just by adding these and today I want to show you how easy it is to use the
easeland box builder app to be able to do this kind of setup so I can get your drawers just a little more organized so I'm going to go ahead and open up the easel software and we'll start
designing this box so we can make these boxes it's really very easy and what I'm going to do is start and just go here to the box
classicand the width of this will be 21 inches the height of this box will be 4 inches and you can make this any height or size you want and depth I have.
I'm going to keep the depth of this shallow for 2 inches for the tab link of these parts I like it at 0.75 an d this plate I'm
usingis 0.259 of an inch thick so it's so easy to do so I'll go ahead and import that and there's the actual box, now what I need to do is be able to change and work with some of this. I have a bottom and a top. I don't need both so I'm going to go ahead and delete this one here to make it go away so this one will be mine. below I'm just going to set it up here for now and I'm just going to work with one side for now and then I'll duplicate it later so I'm going to cut my one side this is the one that I'm going to work with the same with the ends just I need one now so I'm going to cut that out so this is the area we're actually going to work with the first thing I want to do is be able to take this here and I want to be able to remove the tabs so all I have to to do is check that box right there, the tabs are gone.
I'm going to get closer so you can see what I'm doing. do I. I'm going to take this little bar right there and slide it out. Let's go a little further so we can easily see this. Now this is one side. Since we're not using the top, I want to be able to. get rid of all these clippings and that's very easy to do just come here to edit and we're going to start with the first one and we're going to delete and you'll see it move to the next one so I can delete this all the way down so now i have a straight line all the way i still have all my settings everywhere else so i'm going to drop that now the next thing i need to be able to do is be able to put dog bones in this now i could wait and do the dog bones at the end, but let's go ahead and finish this one right now, so we've got the dog bone, we're using an eight-inch bit, so that's it. it's for him and this is my new piece so for starters we'll take this one and cut it off we won't need it anymore because this is the one with the bon es dog but guess what happened he brought the tabs back so let's keep going go ahead and remove the tabs the same way just uncheck now the tabs are gone now i want to get really close so i can see this. the path that we need to get to the shapes and cut on the outside so now it's done so we're going to zoom back out we're going to put this one to the side right in this corner that piece is done i don't need a yell i need to do one more thing with this and I'll put these little vertical tabs at the moment at the bottom all I really need to be able to do is put the dog bones on it and we'll leave it alone so I'm going to come right here to my applications menu again scroll down click on the dog bones yeah that's the 8th inch import it and i got it so that's my new piece with the dog on it. bones this one is going to go this one i want to be able to get rid of the tabs again and that's the bottom part down to these very ones i just need one of them right now so let's go ahead and do the same let's get rid of the tabs so we have my front, back and bottom i need one more side before i do that though i want to go ahead and put these little slits in so if i switch back here this is a slit so i can put the dividers in so if I click on one of them I'll press ctrl c and then I'll move to my new work piece and control v and that gives me that so I'll just slide it down here and put it where it should be you can see here that this doesn't get touched like so that i want to be able to slide it up just a little bit so it touches and you can see it's clear now and it's going to give a nice sharp edge with this selected let's go here to the replicator and let's take a look at this this is an amazing tool the The spacing that I want to have is about three inches in a row and I want to be able to have six across and that gives me six of these across the full width with that done with the three inch spacing I can go ahead and import it and you can see that it puts it exactly where they need to be and if we scroll through you can see that each one of them is placed exactly where I want them with that accomplished I can just highlight everything and press ctrl c ctrl v and I have my other side finished and it blends perfectly so now i can slide it up into position so now that i have my top and bottom and my sides the only thing left is the dividers themselves and all i'm going to do is take one of these and press the control c and I'll bring it here to the new work piece and I'll press control v and I have the splitter now the wood I'm using just a uh mdf and it's probably the worst material to use for this because it swells when it does get wet and this one has and there are places on it which is cool and there are places where it swells with moisture but overall I'm using this like a .259 thickness and it's going to do quite well to be able to secure it to the x-carve I'm using the starbond thick glue now we will have 15 off in the description if you want to buy this save yourself some money and all you need is just a thin bead across this glue now i am using five strips because i literally have five rows to be able to hold those different parts in position but once I have that glue all I have to do is take a little bit of accelerator spray the other tape that doesn't have any glue on it and again it doesn't take much and then from there I just lay this board over scrap board where i want it and guys are you ready to carve this is an amazing way to build safe material even scrap board works absolutely fantastic se It holds up very very well and you see me use this multiple times in the different videos I do but literally in real time now it's dry and ready to be able to carve I went ahead and turned on the x-carve and the first thing I want to do is to go ahead and home the machine to go through the home sequence, now it's going all the way up so it can hit that upper limit switch and then it moves along the x axis and it's going to do the same thing and at the same time moves down the axis and this house in sequence actually only takes a couple of moments but ensures the machine knows where it is located now that the search is ready it is ready to just go ahead and move the machine to my work x y zero position now i'm going to manually set this exactly where i want it and then i'm going to go ahead and do the z-probe now when i'm doing the z-probe i don't like to do it down here in that bottom corner, l or what I really like to be able to do is move it up and more towards the center of the work piece and that way I can z-probe there now if I have a tricky part or if I'm carving in two stages I have a different process but in a project So I'll go ahead and move it up and in this case I'm moving it up six inches up six inches to the right and I'm going to z-probe there now there's nothing special about this I just follow the checklist and I answer each of the questions make the probe and then we're going to go ahead and move it back to the x and zero position now once you're done disconnect everything let's get the probe out of the way and then we're going to put it back so that's six inches back to the left six inches down on the y axis I'm right at my starting x y position and I click on that box as well next I'll go ahead and put my dust cap on and turn on the router or on so now it's ready to be able to carve so let's go ahead and hit start and get this carbon now with this upgrade kit I've increased the speed quite a bit it only takes about 15 minutes to be able to carve this box and that's a lot faster than you could do on a table saw so it definitely saves a lot of time but this is up close you can see what carbon is like and then this picture shows how efficient the cutting is the vacuum is doing it extremely well and this is almost done it's time I can go ahead and assemble this box now these joints with this kind of material still looks pretty good it assembles with a dry fit without having to glue it yet but these joints actually they look pretty good and you can also see how that stuff is rough and how moisture has gotten to it over time so I'm going to sand just a little bit to clean up these edges and frankly I'm going to sand some of these flat parts where it's smooth again because moisture has gotten to this material but this is a good project for this and I'm going to use it and I won't be sitting in the shop anymore so the sanding process is really fast and now let's move on go ahead and glue this box on now a lot of people will just use the white glue for this and hold it down but i really don't want to do this i want to be able to finish this box and put it in the drawer so i'm using the starbond glue again this is the thick starbond glue and all it takes is just a little bit on each of these little tabs and then it snaps into position and I use an old gift card as a square and that makes it perfectly straight and works fantastic you don't need anything fancy , all you need to be able to have it is where it's at 90 degrees once it's in position I'll go ahead and spray the throttle.
I'm going to check it one more time just to make sure it didn't move and within seconds it's dry and I'm ready to go on to the next piece now this time I'm going to go ahead and lay it on its side and I'm going to put that first long side on its position the process is exactly the same i'm going to go ahead and put a little bit of glue on each of these little tabs and then i'll go back and drop this side right in place hit it with a little bit of the throttle and voila you don't have to wait this glue dries almost immediately the other thing i want to show you is on these little lashes all i'm doing is just putting a little blob on this area also like that this is another area where these lashes really they touch each other and I want to have just a little dot of glue on each of those dots but again you can see how fast this is going and I'm ready to be able to drop this piece in this position it's so much easier to play around with white glue and clamps and then having to wait several hours for everything to dry and set it up this way all you have to do is place it in the position you want it to spray throttle dries instantly and just move on to the next section just to make sure it's all the way into position and then i'm going to hit it with a little bit of throttle again and continue this process and finish this frame down to these dividers.
No glue needed. I don't want to glue them permanently. That way I can adjust the size of these compartments to whatever I want so if I have a large number of screws I can open this up and have a large compartment or if I have very few I can make it smaller. it's very, very adaptable and that's one of the things I really like about this ok the first two are done I've already started filling it up and I've thrown about half a dozen of those containers already and now I can see for screws and being able to find them easily without digging the classic box maker app is so versatile you can do so many different things with it and this is yet another
designi want to be able to add to the collection and i'm going to forshare this with the inventables project page so you can download it and adapt it to your needs too now i have quite a few more of these that i will be doing in the next few weeks but i think this is going to be my final solution to be able to eliminate that organized chaos that i had in my drawers , so don't forget to subscribe, like this video and hit the notification bell.
I want to thank you for seeing the day and hope to see you on the next project, whatever it is.
