Feb 27, 2020
Hey guys, I'm Todd with Survival Sherpa. Today I wanted to demonstrate a

that I first saw demonstrated and performed by Mr. Morris Cohan skis and it is a very powerful simple machine that uses lever and can be used to lift vehicles out of mud. For example, I've got my truck down there and it's not actually stuck, but it's in neutral and we're going to pull that thing and it's going to mean it's a small heavy truck, it may look small but it's a small heavy truck with four wheels. , I mean a four-wheeler, snowmobiles, any other type of equipment, if you had to move a big, heavy log. or rock or something like that, this kind of simple machine will be useful, so all we're doing here is we have two logs, this one is about eight feet long, we have one that we're just going to make.

A simple lasso with this rope goes this way here towards the anchor point, which is a solid wood tree at the edge of the forest, so we're just going to grab a lasso and we're going to go. underneath so so we have a line loop right here your subs just another piece will be on top okay so we have a line loop here let's take this will be our barrel our barrel a pole that will actually have the loops of the rope when we turn around, the

went on and this is the toggle post, it's the cedar post, this is just pine, the two dads are standing and it goes by there just like that and then we just tighten, we tighten this rope that it comes from our anchor point, we can just tighten it there, tighten it back and now we're ready to start turning our

winch

.

Okay, now I'm going to come back here. The path that leads from my truck to my vehicle isn't tied yet, we're going to tie it right here, so I put it through one of the holes in the bumper and we're just going to tie a little constrictor knot here. so we have about three, three or four turns there, the next one. I'm going to come back through this loop, now this knot here is going to hold what we want to do, okay, so it's a good idea to have some kind of rope. heavy tow strap or something that can be used if you've ever been in the woods, got stuck in a ditch, this kind of thing with this simple machine, the flip-flop that will help you get out of a tight spot, good by pulling . a really heavy machine vehicle or whatever.

I found that it is very useful to put it. It will make a little more sense in a minute once we get to the turn, but place a stake in the ground here in line with the stake with the drum pole and a stake in the ground on the other side where the drum pole will land , so we have this set up now, we're going to start turning this hold with our lever and then we're going to flip this barrel. the pole will drop it to the other side okay come a little bit closer here okay so what we have now with a term you might want candy since you still have a little bit of slack in the line make sure get these. these uh these loops in a relatively straight way if you can now with a twist of the lever post we're going to turn and drop this barrel now we're going to do this again pull the lever I'm just going to bring it over there as you can see this thing is starting to wrap around this barrel pole this pole here is just a piece of dead time it's not it doesn't have to be very I mean it has to be it shouldn't be made of wood, but it doesn't have to be very sturdy, this pole, the barrel pole lever, it's the one you want to be nice and solid, so we just flip the lever post, we're going to flip this flip flop, the barrel post.

Look again now, you can see that once the tension builds up on this line, this stake in the ground will prevent this barrel post from turning into the trunk of the calf, okay, so let's turn it back here now. I'm going to show you something right here on this line that I've made now it's a good idea to put some kind of rope or something to hold this down because once the tension increases, this thing tends to jump up or fly to the side. a little bit, so all I did here was just take a piece of paracord and just tie a prusik loop here so I can slide this up and down.
I also have one on the other end of this tow cable, okay, so it's I'm going to write the Russert loop here so I can slide this with my, of course, there's not enough tension to need it yet, but just so you know , that's what I'm grateful for, that's good. I'm going to mark it with this salt. the ground just to give us a reference of how far we've dragged the truck, well here's the truck tire and I've got it right in the back and we've only turned it around twice, let's wrap it around a little more and see how far it goes that, blah, penis of this, oh, here, let's put some tension on it, we're not ready to no need to tie it to the ceiling, but hey, put my lasso here just in case, now there's something inherent.
It's dangerous to use a rope, that's all you have, something that's strong enough to do the job, but there's a lot of tension in this way for adjustments, you know it could really do you some harm, but in an emergency situation , You have to use the rope that you have, so I recommend that you take precautions, listen to your instinct, okay, then let's lift this again or the saw that just moved must have been on a small hill that caught a little of gravity and is fine for demonstration purposes. I think this will work. The truck is free with just six turns.
We freed a truck from the hole where the front tire was. Alright. So we want to relax this. Let's just go. to the first one here, okay, okay, so guys, this is a good tool to have in your tool kit and, with some rope and a cutting tool, find two logs of wood that will do the job and can take off a log, take it off, pull things. Outside of whatever you need to take out or drag, this thing will work just fine guys, I appreciate you watching me and until next time keep doing things, take care of yourselves, self-sufficiency.
