Nottingham attacks: Student victim of stabbing named as 19-year-old Barnaby Webber

We are only just hearing something here in Nottingham following these appalling

attacks

in the early hours of this morning, following which a 31-

year

-old man was arrested and is now in custody and firstly we heard that we heard earlier this afternoon from the University of Nottingham that two of their

student

s had died in the

attacks

, we later heard from the police that they were both 19

year

s old and now the Press Association reports that one of those

student

s is confirmed to be 19-year-old Barnaby Weber. Barnaby Weber is believed to have been a very keen young cricketer who played for Bishop's Hull Cricket Club in Taunton and we are also told he played for the Nottingham University cricket team, but tonight the first identification of a

victim

of these heinous attacks, according to Barnaby Weber. to the Press Association Martin Brand is with me here, our crime correspondent, so now we meet one of the

victim

s, a family and friends mourn, of course, that just catches us up, although with what we know about what happened, we know that three people have died Barnaby Weber, one of the first two to die, he and his fellow students had just left a nightclub called Bodega, around four in the morning, when they apparently became random victims of a knife attack, so he and the other students.

They were stabbed in the streets and the same suspect died shortly after, the police believe he attacked a man, the owner of a truck, he stabbed that man to death, a man in his 50s left him on the street, he took his truck and then he used that van downtown. near the Royal Theater to Ram three more victims, one or more, who we believe were standing near a bus stop and were injured, were injured, one of them in critical condition is still in hospital tonight seriously injured, the other two They suffered minor injuries, so I think detectives should hope that they are now in a position to give some details about the nature of their attack.

I think tonight it's starting to look a lot more like this is a criminal act for whatever reason, rather than a terrorist attack. Police have acknowledged that counter-terrorism officers have been working alongside them, which is not unusual, it is a very large and complex investigation. The counterterrorism units are some of the best resourced in the country for obvious reasons in recent years, but I was told tonight that we understand that some of those counterterrorism officers. who are the type of main group of UK investigators have been withdrawn and the local CT counter-terrorism officers, who are very much an intelligence unit, remain working alongside the Nottingham detectives, so again I think that is an indication that this is so, although the police still say they are keeping an open mind about the reasons why it is moving much more towards the criminal.
