Dale Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt are 162 and 341 points behind and there you can see that as If you look at six to ten, it's a pretty close battle from six to ten onwards, well, we show that we prevail in fifth place now and we show you the last starting grid for a NASCAR Winston Cup

race

here in North Wilkesboro, it's Ted Musgrave on the pole and Jeff Gordon alongside. Back in the second row, Bobby Hamilton, a driver who has had strong starts recently in search of his first NASCAR Winston Cup victory, along with Mark Martin Ernie Irvan, who returned to the NASCAR Winston Cup a year ago in these facilities, he starts next to Johnny Benson and in the next row we see Jerry face and Bobby Hillin and face after not qualifying a wonder last week great qualifying race year Michael Walden and Rusty Wallace receive beero five packages and would see the current art like we said in row six Jeff Burt Sterling Marlin some great competition all over town it's real everyone is pointing towards that guy and his little brother Bobby will also be a factor in this race so one of the keys to winning Here, guys, the keys are to exit that corner and not spin the rear tires. take a lot of patience, you got those horsepower, just hit the gas earlier, sometimes, that can be your biggest enemy on this race track, says the baby, being those tires, then you start slipping and sliding worse, worse, worse Of course, no old builder tries to get as much horsepower as they can and every single race track except this one still has that horse on at 8,000 rpm, but Its 6,500 rpm state detunes the edges so they try to prevent drivers from spinning. rear tires, let's take a look at those who don't qualify for this final event here in North Wilkesboro Ward Burton Dick Trickle and Gary Bradbury and it was sad to see that someone missed a race here, many cameras on board for you here this afternoon, which by Of course it's the roof cam on Dale Jarrett, we're ready for the green flag here in North Wilkesboro for the 93rd time and last time for an ant car Winston Cup race, the green flag is flying and Tyson Holly

With him, this is Mark Martin's third road cam position, as Jeff's leader Bobby Hamilton continues to try to make progress. You see that he has surpassed 21. A Michael Waltrip still behind Rusty Wallace. Michael Walter trying to get into Bobby Hillin. See Ted Muskaan. Extremely high bowl center on three and four, a false pole, it's already 8:00 tonight, rusty it's a Dale night and it looks like Ted Musgrave is backing off a lot, uh yeah, he seems to be loose like I said his was car.

He has retreated. Jerry Willie has Bob and I talk to Howard to talk to the crew chief and Ted ed 72 in the seat on the radio, but by watching, they could guess that the department was backing itself into a corner in the middle of the slack often with the rains of last night back to tenth position and to take that place away Ernie Irvan continues to work side by side with Jeff Gordon he will get it Ernie Urban goes to second now he has his eyes on that Pontiac and on the At the same moment it was happening, Dale Earnhardt was passing there, Echo moved into sixth place, so 13 laps were completed, Hamilton popped, and put his STP Pontiac ahead of Ernie Irvan, Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and now Dale Earnhardt, who moved into fifth position .

We'll be back in a moment Green is back in North Wilkesboro, Tyson Holly Farms 400 underway again, best track battle for 30th place Burkhardt, what's up with Gorton? They go to the corner, roll, roll and Earnhardt comes out. with the place and Mark Martin is now going to try to get close to Jeff, fight him too much, he's thinking about the big picture of those points, he doesn't want to get into any skirmishes here in the first part of the race, so it's already planned . The elapsed time gave him five bonus points, so he'll settle into his spot, that comfortable.
Check Martin's Rukh and you can see that he has indeed passed Jeff Orkin, so Jeff is already falling backwards into the side of the car where Rick is standing while he. in Nemechek they are real next to each other, I hope that's all the damage when I leave these rain cookies like the wheel mark, geoff bodine woohoo gets loose a little and traffic jams go bad with his car with his car if something is wrong with geoff bodine's scar he left battleship ned yeah good eyes so Geoff Bodine won this race three times eighty nine 92 and 94 but he pitted early for an unscheduled stop.
What happened there in turn four when he was one of those drivers that made a pit stop during the yellow flag and you see apparently the tire goes down there, crosses over a little bit, gets hit and right in the middle of all that traffic he does a good job and so do many other racing drivers who do a good job and keep them racing. over here so the work is already done on the QBC board and Geoff Bodine is rolling once again meanwhile at the front in his Bobby Hamilton leading Bernie urban Dale Earnhardt now third and Jeff Gordon has harvested a spark in the heart, yeah , Marquart going to the slow core to simply let Jeff Gordon through.
I thought for a moment that something happened, the bark scar, but it was delayed. Jeff Gordon. Go to the field summary for you with the starting position of each line and Joe Nemechek is also in the pit area in which he was involved. There with a tire or something, you see Morgan Shepherd making the pass here and the left side of Ken Schrader's car shows some tire marks; everyone is passing the pole winner here at the start, he walks back around 17. Jerry has served Musgrave. it's just keep going back Jerry Bob, you're absolutely right, it's not exactly what they expected to happen, you know, we talked about how green the rate track was, Howard Conflux, that the car is so tied up that they can't turn it now.
If they were open the track would reach them in the first 30 laps, but now they're almost 40 laps in and the track hasn't reached it, but the traffic has. Jerry. I'm on Jeff Conine's script and looking at the tire, the flat tire. that came off there on the left rear and we can't find any problem there were no punctures they say the tire just went flat all the arch stems are in place so no problem they say the tire just went flat went flat, they can't find a feature, let's go to Bill to endure another strong qualifying race for Johnny Bench and he also ran the Craftsman Truck race here on Saturday.
Browns, they said they learned a little about the tires, where Johnny got more news as the race went on, they hoped that would work. That won't be the case today, they were going to do the pencil before the race continued, but right now Johnny's car is a little loose, that's what he's telling his team, they're running in a tight spot right by in front of Jeremy Mayfield and here there is a battle. between the very close man Jeff Gordon and Coca moves towards the fatal blow back at 6:00, so after leading the last start, Jeff Gordon finds himself stealing again, as he will now receive a challenge from the Cowpen scars, look at Belgian and Jeff. cream Cartoon Network our, this is the next of the last car, Kyle Pitt is behind Jarrett, there Jarrett was the last one who did not stop everyone behind him, they stopped and all Neville new tires and I'm sure they are sick.
We were wondering, we made a mistake getting on, everyone now passed him, John, she, the carnot with Dale Jarrett, told his crew chief, Todd Parrott, just before the train left again, he said, hey, we should having pitted on four tires because this car is very very loose so yes Ned you are absolutely right they are doubting the mile Patty takes the position over Jarrett by the way gentlemen the check and Jeff lost two laps each when they made their drink like that Ricky Rudd Wally Dallenbach here's Bobby Labonte who took a provisional championship to get into the race but Darrell is gaining some spots those new tires make that kid stop so he's really Returning along B, he laughs in a very intelligent way, running back here, back. of the field when the yellow flag came out, so he just decided to come in, put on new tires, contact there between Dollars Back and Bobby Labonte, close it right on the rear bumper, they will walk by the 37 starters and it's currently 17 bears on the short track. no one knows their way around this track because of the dural woman who once was Jeff Hammond dental rat Darrell was brought in in 2017 twenty point seven zero seconds and the leader ran 20 inches to threaten Walter faster than the leader becomes Jeff Hammond earlier in the morning and said, "You know, it really helps that Darrell, even though he's won here ten times and has all the experience here at this track, he ran the truck race on Saturdays, he learned some things in the truck race that could help them today. and even though they started shooting in the field, Jeff said, "Hey, this is a nice car." We headed to Martinsville last week, had power steering issues and didn't get a chance to show how good the car was last week. to show how good it is today, my ears are a group of cars.
I'm coming down the straight and then you've got the 23 on all four cars, they both made pit stops during that yellow flag, they've got tires under pressure and they've got these guys that are running side by side, three up front here, better than back up, Joe Nemechek, passing the race leader, Bobby Hamilton, with those new tires, he's faster, look at Ernie Irvan, who has now closed in on Bobby's rear bumper. Hamilton first and second car twenty-eight the textual car halvah it's been our year, it was a very fast way Three hundred and fifty laps ago fifty were completed on Tyson's

Holly four hundred as we say goodbye to Winston Cup racing at North Wilkesboro I passed over of something like a tire and when I came back, I barely hit the wall.
I was sitting there and I didn't go until they dropped the flag because I knew we were going to go down a lap, so I sat there. I tried to start the car, I did it correctly and I sat there for a second and he had the yellow flag and he dropped the flag so I took off and they didn't like it very much but that's what saved us from going up. there and tie Richard Petty's record for most consecutive starts and go up there and win the pole, yeah, that was a special day and then we can come back on Sunday, win the race and that was an incredible race for us and probably the Most memorable race I've run in North Wilkesboro.
I was trying to run. Rusty got caught in an accident there and we just flew and I barely made it. Rusty didn't make it and then we did. beat Jeff out of the pits there for that last stop near the hole Terry Labonte has moved from 16th to 8th and take a look at his record here in his 35 races, he has four wins, 14 top five finishes in a final average of 9.3 we have had a lead change as Ernie Irvan has taken over the top spot, let's take a look at how we got them out of turn two and regret the left throttle hits and powers with the soundof a great handling race car, but right now like we, like Bob, said there's not a lot of traffic, Johnny Benson is and the PS Weber bill Johnny Benson ran 59 laps and now he's on pit road, a four tire change for the Pennzoil Pontiac and a chassis adjustment that put the right side now going left, several 42 guys fell in the field and couldn't hurt, it's been in quite a while with four tires on for Vincent Jack is away Johnny returns while the country food fun there can see Earnhardt. him being challenged now by Rusty Wallace so fast in the opening laps, but now back to seventh position.
Rusty takes six. What's the situation with Dale Doc? Well, the tire concern we talked about is starting to rear its head here on pit road. We're seeing some of the top teams saying in the spring they can get to 75 left, maybe 70 on average with their first pit stop, they look good, your guys sit on lap 16, they'll go to the big, you will slide from the place. but even at the front, the 43rd car believes, but look for the pit stop at the first opportune moment, the next 10 to 15 are left and when the first leader arrives, they will. everyone followed well, their respect was quite precise because now we are on lap 62 and we're seeing some drivers slipping and sliding badly as we take a look at another recap of the Graham field.
Ernie Irvan is approaching with slower traffic, now it hurts me what he did his return here a year ago he led 30 laps again about to lap John and done and ready he is running in 31st position in part right now the family is the fastest car on the track remember he had dropped back to about 60s worked his way back to third position is Bobby Labonte any crusher goes by Michael Walker then you I think Martin Martin just sits there and You try really hard not to overuse those tires at the beginning, you try to keep a straight pattern around the track, I think it's paying. for him here in the ham a little different look of the car 11 there a Bret Bowties former winner here in North Wilkesboro there is lake speed inside Michael Waltrip this is about 16 17 18 and 19 look at Johnny Benson, he has those new tires Look at it, it feels so good that the caution flag would come out right now a lap or so Wally Dallenbach is ahead Wally also amen for a pit stop not long ago, but those who are racing have not arrived for their pit stop yet we want to be here when they do this because it can definitely mean good track position and bad track position so we'll take a break and head back to North Wilkesboro well here are the pit stops we told you about. over however it's under caution let's go first to Bill Weber Mark Martin on pit road under caution right side tires no signs of chassis adjustment still should be a four tire change on fuel jeff gordon is also on pit road dale jarrett is on pit road mark martin sitting on the hoverboard they put on the left side while dale jarrett has come out of the back of pit road he is on his way now martin leaves he cuts terry labonte and Gordon is also on the way.
The right front fender was Benetton Bobby Hamilton like an urban pimp, we're standing by the pillow, damage to the right side of the Havilland because they changed the right tires, now they're going to hold Ernie Irvan on pit road. Larry McReynolds appeals to the official Winston Cup birdie that came down to the pits. way before and continued on his way Larry McReynolds pressing his cause visibly upset the permit is being held here on pit road now not even Reynolds is done with NASCAR's official law school and the bill she pointed out that he did so As soon as he arrived, he didn't He didn't wait for the safety car to pick up the field, he went down pit road and his team sent him off or at least he went off the track and completely back into the field and then he went down pit road when They did it, but the kids were not open when he came down the first time the officials were there and of course they are also stopping him at the pit road exit while the field is going well, we are under yellow flag due to a incident here on the frontstretch involving Kyle Petty. and finally it involved urban and a Hamilton, let's take a look as this started in turn three and Kyle Petty comes out of the corner, sends emails, gas goes sideways, goes down, gets into car 28 and also car 43 that we've seen on Martin Martin road. down on the inside avoid all the points both leaders were having a problem now this is going into turn three and you will see that the problem starts here there we got a hit from car eight, he puts the car on its side that could have had a flat tire because here , when he stepped on the accelerator, the car suddenly veered to the side and spun around and that's when the other leaders made contact with Kyle.
Petty Kyle is back on the track. Ernie Irvan, however, came in for another stop while he continues to work on the left front of the Texaco Havoline Ford, we'll take a break and be right back with more from North Wilkesboro. I would say my most memorable moment would be, I think, in 1988 or '89 when he was leading the race with one lap to go. Geoff Bodine was right behind me. I was going to take turn one. He pushed her and sent me to the track. He took the lead and they asked me to come down from behind.
I slid behind him and bumped into him. I turned three and I shot down the track, I slid under them, I won the race and I looked in the rearview mirror and all I saw was people sliding everywhere and then I got to victory lane and some of Geoff's team leaders, another floated. While I was in victory lane, they took the right hand and stuck it out the window, which never made me mad like a Hornet, so some really wild things happened in North Wilkesboro. I've won a lot of races, it's been a good track. everyone has their favorite memory about this great race track Rusty Wallace in 25 races here has three wins and has finished in the top five twelve times Jerry hit updating some of the pit stops below Bobby Hamilton's number 43 car, the car was running a little The right front fender of a few degrees was kicked a little, but there was no trailer support on the 24 cars driving on the right rear of the car with two loose, all four tires on the two cars and no adjustments on Rusty Wallace on Miller for the Green Wave will vote for him, let's check with Bill eleven more tires for Dale Earnhardt says his car is fine it was a little loose before he got hit Mark Martin pitted 18 point six four seconds four tires and leads the race Ernie Irvan's car is not handling well, they towed it in a mile, they said they would try to get to the next yellow flag, but it may not go that far.
Dale presided over the adjustment of the four-tire track bar. Remember he was complaining that the car was loose. Darrell Walter, four tires. on the track bar just a small one to turn hard that car went up a little bit Rick mast came on four tires with no adjustments he's currently running in sixth place Ernie Irvan actually can't catch up with the rest of the field he's very slow on the on the track racing, but you are looking at good competition, Rick bast works inside Dale Earnhardt and this is the battle position after starting in 28, good performance for Rick mast and there a Walther just behind the cigar barrel started in 37, asserting himself in seventh place as the buck dissipated that scheduled pit stop he had made with the green flag pit stop now both Ernie Irvan and Kyle Petty are just one lap down 43 Bobby Hamilton, who was also involved in that skirmish here on the frontstretch, it's still on the lead lap here's Ricky Craven Jeff Burton Gary cope and others who are also competing with Sterling Marlin are in the four cars that are all for position, all on the lead lap again, there's a summary from the field full of clams, see you so you say now these cars right now with the French tires running. about 20 seconds left here inside Ricky Craven removes that position there's that new looking number 11 when he gets next to Ricky Craven that's Brett Bowtie who won with a spring race here in 1990 ruined his mineral ride club met quite a lot of gold cars, he put the left rear end up on Ricky Cravens' car, there goes Derrike in front of Darrell Walker, so those Jeff Burtons from then on let me go back inside.
Darrell Waltrip hanging from his nighttime position. Any wall is Hut Stricklin's help. Bobby Hillin. Ted Musgrave, everyone fighting. the back of the field hovers around position 18, 19, 20 at the back, there are 28 cars still on the lead lap, several of them of course allowing flattery that would provoke a skirmish with Iran over the amount of drivers who had made green flag pit stops before the caution came out and we see Ted Musgrave, the pole winner, the Family Channel car soon back in 27th place next to the last car on the lead lap, that is the trick, the last call for someone who has made a couple of stops in the last few minutes and By the way, the Circuit City car was Hut Stricklin Jeff Green, since Benny mentioned driving that number 29 car this week, while at the front Bernie Urban loses another lap and that will leave him behind in 32nd.
Mark Martin has Lee Jeff in 42nd and Rusty Wallace looks like. like he might be coming into that pillar, looks like racing I've seen rusty in the last two races, we had a problem between Robert Pressley and Bobby Hillin, they didn't turn all the way around and there was no caution, a difficult breakaway for Bobby caused extensive damage to the Meanwhile, on the right front, we continued to watch Rusty Wallace as he gained second position. Wallace, three time winner at this race track, looks in, heads towards corner number three, here he retreats and enters the turret.
II no body back off Pam the position again thinking about that big picture the big picture the network start wasting it let's take a look at this on the corner between Presley and Helen that Oh situations where the car takes the curve the driver is outside hiding for the one who was inside the whole time 33 car was hit right on the left front tire could have fit the steering of that car and John tells us about Robert Pressley. I just talked to Andy Petree who is going to become the owner of that team this Next week he tells me that the tow has been so Roberts is really going to have a handful out there, let's go to Jerry Punch, we'll call Bobby Hillin on pit road, choice about good health, news in the car, maybe getting injured and Robert said we really can't. help here how bad the cars hurt they were worried about a tire rubbing a fender removal event - there on the wall ready to take down the chattering officers sure looks like medicine Ernie Irvan is on the bill and they go To try and cut the right front fender, they were held up on pit road because there were too many men on the wall and then sent to the end of the longest line for pitting too early, so that was the double whammy we're going to get. try to cut the front fender of the 28 cars below, return to dr.
Vaughn Rodie in the right side yard and Bobby Hillin sounded. Helen returns to the track, but Ernie Irvan continues to sit there as they work on the car at the track, while Rusty Wallace comes to the front and is about to challenge Mark's forgiveness for the lien. here on lap number 96 we're almost at the 1/4 mark here at North Wilkesboro, where Tyson Holly swept at North Wilkesboro, where Rusty Wallace took the lead from Mark Martin, you guys felt it was going to happen, didn't you? laughed after we went on the run Rusty Wallace fell behind Mark Martin turned three and four and this is what happened Mark goes up the hill a little rusty didn't he turn left and take the lead and then Miller Port is? up front for the first time this afternoon now we look back the second place mark here is jimmy spencer and dairy coke and why are they fighting for eighth place?
Jimmy Spencer just took over Spencer has a nice race car here today, don't count - out Sterling Marlin and the board Craven who is having a good show here, Waltrip, the Waltrip brothers with michael on the inside and darryl on the outside and john, as you watched darryl fall back and lose some ground, made it to the end. ninth position Johana just told me that she doesn't like this set of tires and in the last adjustment they made a slight adjustment on the track portion the car is still loose on the set of tires so they would like a warning and be Now on the track they would like to see a yellow flag, put four new tires on it and make another adjustment to try to adjust the car and get it back to 19th position.
John Andretti is twolaps back and not on the same lap. like Darrell Waltrip, he went all red, Ricky Craven comes back trying to take 10th, Jericho, he does it, wow, the car seems to slide in a little bit halfway out of the corner, that hard furniture and position improvement in the first 107 laps. Kodiak Chevy Ricky Craven behind the wheel looks what's going on up front Jeff Gordon closes in on Mark Martin for second position as Rusty continues up here closing out all he wants right now is just a little slip up, little slip up, part of the mark if you will take the place and wait?
That's true, but Jeff Gordon, although he's not taking any chances, has to worry about Terry Labonte there, as long as he can return there the rest of the season. He has the championship, but LaVon E has been in Iran in fourth place and got right up to the rear bumper of Mark Mark Bill Weber. Terry Labonte and his crew came to North Wilkesboro two weeks ago and brought three cars here, including the silver one. one that Terry won here on this train after that race that car was put in a Hendrick Motorsports museum the museum that here is the car they have on the track and another Terry tested the three reds nine laps in the car that is on the track I had a great race today after the clutch problem and the rear end was good.
I wonder why Mark Martin just stepped aside, he let Terry Labonte go. He was talking to Mark in Richmond, he believes that when a car catches you, my back half immediately. What's going to happen to you and the more you fight him, the more time he'll lose, he said yes, I'm going to lose three kids the moment they agree, they think this looks cute on them, smart, rotten fruit, camera on. , mark, like Rick The Mast is able to pass the rusty Wallace by 3/4 of a second right now and Mark Martin tries to come here for a few laps and Sydney picks him up with a piece of rubber paper from the rear bumper or he gets eggs escaped on the toes.
I went up almost a quarter of a second in a couple of laps, I think Mark Martin Luther listens to Joe, just like you did, bodies must mash pork, now it's down to two point three seven seconds, definitely Katie told the leader, Rick has two consecutive final sixes on his banner. had his best performance of

1996

at the Martinsville Bork venue and the number 29 car, Jeff Green, makes a rolling pit stop once again, meanwhile, up front, Jeff Forks is ready to take the lead from Rusty Wallace just behind Of them, Rick will move carrying the body. and we could see that he's two and three seconds behind, now putting that left front on the concrete is not a very low safe challenge in that corner and Here's Mark Martin moving around a terrible body, so Mark now goes back to Poor's Labbadia 250 and It looks like, oh look, the half-second battle begins, but Rusty Wallace and the 24 car are fighting and that's exactly when I thought my Mark Mark just now appears once again over Kyle Petty and, putting him two laps back, he's running in 30th place after an incident early in the race here on the main straight.
Jerry updates us on Rusty. Both Rusty Wallace and Jeff Gordon had the same problem during the final pit stop, both having complained that their cars were loose. Both adopted a different philosophy. They decided too much that it would drop the air pressure a pound each way. A big bet. Consider that when air pressure drops, it can really scrape your tires. came off a little bit so Robyn Pemberton made the call and Roy said hey, that tune up Robyn was great, the car is running well Jeff: the number 11 car is losing pace down the stretch and Brett Bodine is going to stop meanwhile Dale Earnhardt is making a move forward, these cars in front of him, but he has trouble with Earnhardt, he's closing in and Ernie Irvan.
Oh what a wall ban in turns one and two, that was a close call. Maria's thing just rose, she almost hit. she the wall, but she regained control by the way the 17 Darrell Waltrip car had just been lapped after being in the top ten. Wahlstrom now, what a lap down at 24, the team mass has cost Jeff Moore and look how he did it, what his times are there. Compared to Wallace, every lap of his was low in practice 22 and Darrell Waltrip lost his laugh. Came in on John, nice old guy, it's going to be right side tires only, also a track bar adjustment and also a shim adjustment that kills the right side tires.
DW, but he missed a lap, so he decided to come in and hopefully he could get a warning. Now Jeff's coordinated element was a battle for the lead, it's a good battle until death falls behind Rusty and Hookers Rondon, Jeff Gordon's buffer drink masters. Right there waiting for his chance in turn one, they're awfully close here, a nice clean run there and Jeff Gordon is going to pass him. There seems to be no rusty battles on the outside, now that he makes leading contact, he leaves Wallace out of control, rusty. he came over to start going down and Rick was going to run there while he was at the top and it opened up and that could have been, you're right now as Martin Bart walks past Rusty Wallace and I would say which are both. reports that if they don't have a flat tire, their own right front rig masks are on the left rear of Rusty Wallace's car now the question is handwritten by a man capture 24 how much was rusty held up to 24 cars let's take a look at this one more time every seat board and goes inside rusty we go and go and then rusty starts to back up and mask what's going to run there too as the bottom lane opens up you can see the smoke fly there where they gathered your tires. makes pretty good contact with the left rail the russian cars squeeze in pretty well once you get another angle we see it go down into the curve and boom pretty much no significant contact is noticeable yeah great job on both albums part so as not to be ruined there, has a John.
Kernan, I just talked to Rick Mast's crew chief, Kevin Hamill, and he says, "I hope we don't damage the car," he said, "hopefully all we get is a little bit of fender on the right front rubbing against the tire. , but that shouldn't be." It's a shame because they plan to pit in about 30 laps. 22 cars are now on the lead lap as Jeff Gordon laps the number 23 driver at the moment. Lakes me, we'll be right back, we're back at Tyson Holly farms. 400 from North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, then just after we say goodbye to this place, their big league baseball is the Padres and the Dodgers, we will come out of the winner, the National League West will win, the winner will play the st.
Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, the loser will face the world champion Atlanta Braves on Wednesday the Dodger Pirates at 4 o'clock this afternoon, right after Tyson's 400 Holly Barb, we're riding with third place Mark Martin and watching Rick get ahead at Jetport. Also, as Michael Walker's 21st car, Michael is in 20th position so now Mike's cars remain and you see the pole sitter, Ted Musgrave, now a lap behind the leaders with them a lap back just a couple ago. around, how is he back now. Rick Bass will not be driving the next car, you will be driving a 75 car that Morgan Shepherd is currently driving, they do not have a driver name for this car nor a sponsor, right, a discussion about platform mats with hat interviews last week at Marche see you later of the race in each sector whose heavy head also now inspects the 18 cars that go per lap here until Jeff Gordon and the other sex robot and he is in 19th place, well, Curtis Bay LaSalle, this situation answers some questions, okay , the hat Rick was wearing. was not of voters in the main sponsor in the car is one of the associate sponsors in the car sees network systems an agreement in did you like SAP digital satellite systems some small 18-inch digits that people use when they do not have TV Cable Richard told me yesterday, but yes, he's talking to a few different people, he may have a sponsor in play, he's hoping to figure something out in the next few weeks and he's still talking to a few drivers, including a very young driver and I'm not.
I don't know who it is but they just say someone has a lot of potential, oh I bet they do, you just don't want to say it. He might need to be baby Parsons from a very, very young age, but Johnny Benson back on pit road is disappointing. The day continues on four tires and he's a guy who won't really miss this place, just a couple of races to come for Johnny here Vincent looked good in the first few laps but passed out. It was 24 Michael Waltrip in the pits Rusty Wallace going in Earnhardt Jeff Burt has another good race in sixth place Lavanya Jimmy Spencer and Ricky Craven and mom Hamilton and there's Dale Jarrett's car in 12th place, of course, 11th place Sterling Marlin just ahead since the restart Dale Jarrett has moved from 18th to 12th so he's not doing too badly here after a very xxx start to the game and Michael Waltrip pitted, he lost a lap a few minutes ago.
Here's Jerry, about 73 left, that's the quick fact, what and in the traffic there they gathered? Lunn dominates these new tires, Nemechek is on the outside, no problem and he really needs to move as fast as he can because the leaders Jeff Gordon and the platform mats are, but he will stay easily, he is neither of them on these tires new. Morgan Shepherd's 75 car is making a pit stop or was running at 18 and just missed a lap eh a lot of them will so as soon as they drop the lap they'll go ahead and come in if it's down there , as long as. they can make that bump stop and when it doesn't come or four tires use up fuel in the race, here's another driver looking for transportation next year, like we told you, Rick Mass will go to this car working.
Shepard keeps searching, here's Dale Earnhardt. He approaches Rusty Wallace and takes Barnard, he has the yellow panadol for his tires, he makes contact with another car, they take off all that yellow paint, which is the Goodyear yellow paint that the babies there talk about on those tires that they continue to the interval between 1st and 3rd major and Last time, Martin, Dale Earnhardt, won five times here at North Wilkesboro in the spring race and won this event in 91. side tires now for Coca-Cola too outside the pits Sterling Marlin in the Kodak Chef Ford left side tires in derrike copes car the fuel is in extra man they are allowed to clean the windshield waiting in the left front Maricopa's doubt about the road Jerry hit the same way 4: 30 Marland no card adjustment in our concern a slight air pressure adjustment four tires they put to get Ruud and Marlin back on the track meanwhile Gordon has a lot of traffic ahead Johnny misses the Pennzoil car we saw them at the bishop pulling let's go changing four tires the way he does pool in the pits changing four tires looks like the stop is complete Tom and Bella say come on guys come on that's it he also had just lost a lap in 13th position and then Jarrett with new rubber is back there, they had left him off the track, he was left helpless and you can see the difference in speed, this comes on the track, it happens quickly and Dale keeps the car at less than 35 miles per hour 35 on pit road here Brazil edge of traffic khofifah never get into heavy traffic blockade Michael Waltrip that will be there we saw Terry Labonte a moment ago on the south side optimistic if Dale launches inside and he's not there John Kernan they will encourage the tires one they punished him.
I remember he's responding in that car, guys, let's go to dr. Jerry hits the other side loses they are going to change four tires they are going to turn the air pressure back up in the right front tires on the right side he is going to bring his favorite car Ronnie hit the water barrels a year ago left side tire Thunderbird What big deal kid right in front of leader Jeff Gordon and Bobby Hamilton's 43 car, Tom lowered it and has always installed the last one installed there and turned into the number one course, Bill Elliott came in right behind you see both of them. on your screen Bill Elliott is fine, Dale Earnhardt pits and Ricky Craven exits the tray of car 25.
M exits. Earnhardt comes down pit road, so the green flag pit stops here will all come in very soon, but one thing the leaders can do. I can't afford to be the leader, some of the favorites have come in, the others can't afford to stay out there if you get blocked because we picked up a second Aleppo. Bobby Hamilton backed down. Jerry Punch is there with our anti-narcotics routine, change four tires. The front tire is moving away while they are going to change Wi-Fi Terry Labonte has been a little loose with this set of tires, they are going to try to tighten it up a little more, more tires and fuel for the Kodak for the yellow Chevrolet, this is me.
They'll make the trip almost to the end of pit lane, Mark's teammates right behind him, Rick Mastfolded is in place, the right side tires are already changed. Kevin Hamill with the front tire changer holds the truck's right finger over the tire they are coming to. around the left side around the fight ticket off the right rear Jeff Gordon said, let's go to dr. Jerry hit Rick mast 91 left his field minute no adjustment four Martin tires also on pit road left side tires at the horn mark marking his furthest breaking net down here so everyone up there made a pit stop here at 162 lat Bart we' We'll be back with more live coverage of the Tyson Holly Farms 400 in just a moment John, thank you so much here in North Wilkesboro. 171 laps have been completed and Rusty Wallace is in the lead with the number 24 car of Jeff Gordon running on the second needle. our final visit to North Wilkesboro after 30 broadcasts The Winston Cup Series will not compete here after today our broadcast this afternoon will be presented by Quaker State, motor oil that exceeds the highest standards of engine protection, and by the fresh brewery Budweiser, which reminds them of freshness. the beer tastes better and we remember Jeff Gordon Rusty Wallace who was involved in a skirmish with Rick Mast a few laps ago, that car was not hurt in any way, it looks like Rusty has taken off his man leading this race again it's pressure.
Rusty Wallace seems to have seen Mark Martin once and lasted the car in fourth place. They have to own the big pissed off mass that pulled the right front fender off the tires trying to report it and that little bit of time cost him so much track position that he was right. on the leader's bumper when he entered the pits, but he leaves with quite a gap between him and the leaders and a lot of traffic also between second and third in terms of which Rusty Wallace Bobby Hamilton, when he got angry, left behind Rusty Wallace.
He passed Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace, they canceled him, so he returned to the lead lap. Hamilton in front or you can see a 2.8 second gap between skins today, alert heart is on two jet board passes below rusty Wallace falls quiment look at that See Elliott, what a guy is doing a great job, there's an old Jared, For me, more starting position. Dale has moved up to seventh place. There's Darrell Waltrip right behind him. He has new tires. Resume just a few laps ago. Waltrip has lost. now showing four at 3035. It looked like the DWF holes in the early part of the race are looking very good for the leaders here entering traffic once again.
You know, they let McDonald Sport have been able to hold on with these two cars, the two leaders didn't. able to pass them but he stayed right on the rear bumper since he left it 17 points behind also Jimmy Spencer one lap below this garbage says Robert Pressley once again hello Tulio Jackson car 33 of ours and if you can take us over an area here today, house for two, pat on the back, tell them how much I appreciate everything you've done to me over the years, but they want those sage grouse in western North Carolina to watch out for Leo Jackson, Robert Pressley, by the way , from privateer car 29.
Next year, Rick Mast seems to show some strength here, rightly so. Well, he certainly he's running well at Wendy's when the leaders became homeless. The heavy traffic allowed Rick to catch up a bit. He has a good race car, there is no doubt that he is right on the road. rear bumper Bob Clark Park the traffic that certainly helped his cause a little there he goes towards the inside of the market takes third position now the leaders have cleared what was missing traffic about four five then it will be mmm now the teachers will have two or three they can see where it is and where the leaders are here a battle for the lead here comes Rusty Wallace and these stars are rusty take back the lead here on lap 185 us Rusty Wallace and Jeff Horton and Rick mast you can be five sexes on top Rick Mess tops All that traffic, it's very heavy.
Rusty Wallace takes on this event once again. We're less than 15 laps away from the halfway point of the Tyson Holly Farms 400 breach and it's down a bit. Kang takes a kick and goes back up and then comes up short and literally rips a tire off. the ground when they come, come on, left, lying in the corner, not Bernie. No, as you can see, Russ Jeff Gordon has taken the lead again and now the battle is for second position, as Rick Mast is right on the rear wing of Rusty Wallace. Rust, Rick has gotten through that traffic a little better than we thought, maybe BP, I'm an expert, yeah, I pay you those high dollars exactly, that's why you know, big butts.
I said five seconds, it looks like about half a second it is. Game attacker Rick, now these two had a little incident not long ago, crushed, as Wallace looked at these first 24 runs to the top 10 setups. Now they are both trying to get around the car. Bill Elliott McDonald looks rusty, maybe on the inside. Man, they can't, that's the leader, he passed the second place car, but he had to pass the leader to get back on the lead lap. Oh, look how strong this command is on man. Robert Pressley has impressive powers among them. Horton is having a great time navigating the mortgage, he's been after it for quite some time.
Morgan is in position 16. Ten thousand dollars on the line here or labs completing lap ninety-eight and now trying to get around Robert Pressley, but in the meantime that's really it. The battle for first and second became tense when Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace exited the turn $10,000 next time around 10,000 the race Rusty would like to have that money in his pocket remember they were halfway there at that moment , you're right, that's I'm right, yes, so Gordon has more work. The midpoint was reached. Jeff to Swinson and below. Morgan Shepherd is trying to stay in the lead just as the part of him, seven times, the leader's midpoint has one on one.
Lightning Dr. Jerry Punch has more, we talked about how focused, how about these drivers focus on the short track? You're mainly worried about the car in front of you passing them and also holding your line a moment ago. Jeff Gordon got on the radio with Ray Evernham and said: Hey Ray, who is he? leading, oh that's good and visit us Dale Earnhardt has joined an ant farm car things are getting tough here in the middle of the road yeah, it's 1 2 3 4 5 cars no lights together on the track racing, we'll get on board with Mark Martin here, we can hear him exit the corner, let off the throttle, this is how Dale Earnheardt closed the gap, look at his lap times compared to race leader Jeff Gordon, each of They quickly reduce the interval from 1.8 seconds to one second. on circuit 199, that's the best way I know to get the fastest lap from someone, someone who's really good, yeah, that'll work, you know, the last time they found out about our debt, they got him.
These Carson Chevrolets seem to be fading, but even though they made a fist. We're in the opportunist and he might have the car Justin, what do you think there's no weather here? They are encouraging their drivers to save time, please save your tires, save your tires. I love to bridge with team manager Bobby Hutchinson supporting Earnhardt on this right now. The team is looking for the right rhythm that will lead to a great victory. I just talked to David Smith here, Koch's crew chief, Adele, or they said, hey, Nell's been playing, the car was very, very, our last pit stop, we added a shim, we did an air pressure. the inhale fit is the best the car is hard all day this is perfect made one more pit stop got a little more air pressure change and the course leader owl is not healthy as he is now trying to take third place and he does his name is Morgan Shepherd he has new tires, he's probably going to pass by all these guys and he's going to win the one we almost got into loose things.
If Mark Martin is going to come up the side, he's got Darrell Waltrip in front of him, the fastest line, maybe the bottom, I guess. who's the fastest racetrack that hasn't made a stop maybe he's running among the leaders yes, the FERC effort is coming, he was suspended after that stop, he was behind beyond xx, the man has moved on to sixth place now that we were following him Just a minute ago and we saw that the gap between him and the leader is kind of a race track, but let's buy it, but he retired, Jebediah, just after Rusty Wallace, passed In second place, art was heard and there is Wallace.
Oh, he was almost in. by Dave Marcus entering the curve Dave and Shepard got there with new tires made in threes entering the curve and Jeff Gordon Green had to brake ladies wheels the teacher key a question Whoa, look, the area is on the inside 271 and look at Morgan Shepherd, get up here in a hurry and you will see the smoke fly here, close to Jeff Gordon, hey Marcus, by the way, two laps back running in 26th position, Jeff Gordon still maintains the lead over Dale Earnhardt Rusty Wallace . Mark Martin and Rick are in the top five after 213 of the 400 laps at North Wilkesboro.
Now I have a lot of good memories, I guess then bad memories, because we've done so many races that there's probably one that stands out. Most of it is an incident between me and Bobby Allison in 71 72 IP, so you know, he came to the last race and he and I were racing and in a completely elapsed time I hit him or he hit me and then we really got let's do it. If we've gone one more lap, one of the courses that did it, that's how bad it was, so I guess this is where he really gets the adrenaline flowing to win the race.
Turns out I won the race that was probably the most exciting. moment from my point of view because it lasted more than just points there, well guess what Dale Earnhardt worked his way to the lead, race number 24 led here for Dale Earnhardt and that's how he managed to get around Jeff Fort in the hardening coming out To you, man. Don't leave him out of the crack like this, but he goes up there and has a lot of confidence in Gordon. Gordon didn't fight him too much, he just let him go and wonders if Gordon, when he came in, he and Dave Marcus got together.
It looked like his tires were mounted a little wrong, they had added care time, what justice, Holdren then, wasn't it? His right front deflated, well, he even came to meet Shepherd and Marcus and a moment ago he said: I know we want to. go 25 more laps, rape, not sure we can do 25 more laugh cars, pull away and run, back up and say right front we have about two more stops, meanwhile Dale Jarrett caught Rusty Wallace for the sex position what was it. efreeti right after the typhoon, he just left the pits. Ricky was running around nine and decided to make an early pit stop.
Johnny Benson right now, but Rusty's car is really gone, he's just waiting waiting for a warning or waiting for one of the leaders in front of the pieta, so he'll come here. Dale Jarrett's best finisher was seventh, he's been in 18 races, but he's right on that rear bumper, rusty, now let's check out Jeff Burton, see how he does with a 3/. 4 seconds behind right now if we see Dale jump off the quality care cars trying to pass Rustin yeah rusty can't control it he's going uphill and Dale Jarrett drives on the inside and we can see the chip or the second yeah now he He has gone crazy.
Park for third position, so Jeff Burt Mark Martin Ernhardt. I heard them talk about this track at the truck race yesterday and explain that it is an abrasive service like it was at Darlington before they repainted it exactly, we can see the rubber landed on the track. concrete we go around the track we adjust my sandpaper just remove some rubber from the tires two point two seconds Betty come in for a second third yes, let's see there's the fourth place car, there goes one I know Jeff Bill Gerry and here he comes Terry Labonte old place Front box of the car down Rusty Wallace Jeremy Mayfield running there with them in the 37 car and in the back we have the Sterling team and then you are scoring the pylon will show you that the next car after Sterling Marlin will be the 41 Where is the tournament ball head? to the pits and here comes the 43 car very Coca's on the pills there is Marlett on pit road looking for his position here about 3/4 of the way down he is here let's build weapons Jericho returns the fuel and the writer in the a the left a very fun adjustment to the left we're trying to adjust this movie Kodak Chevrolet one two three away stopped just inside uh trick leaders on the pillar in our Neverland away Jeff Gordon got down too late for the tires and they'll try to get us the morosanu bill once jeff burton led a lap now on pit road right side fires around his neck in the side field they are having a remarkable race the car was a little loose a wedge round jeb led a lap that was the first Onceled Since we were in Richmond not long ago and on the track, Gordon's ten-day alert is not recent.
I would say what Burke could do is to take the lead again, be in front of these cars, if they can't catch him he will be the leader here, I think he will end up with the lead after the pit stop phrase, hit the pit stop buddy, Patton, seriously, take a bow, great pit stop, Jeff Burton maintains the lead, how's that? But here comes Scorch's commander, Taylor, and they're closing in on him from the inside. by Ricky Craven Ricky Rudd z-ray, yeah, he's the leader that the right has stopped, but I think he stopped before, maybe, in fact, you know, yeah, he's out there with those new tires, he was probably the leader at home in games and it might be yes, but when all is said and done, it will be Jeff Burton.
This is actually the battle for second place between Jeremy Mayfield returning to the track after a pit stop during NASCAR Winston Cup competition with an 81-point lead over Terry Labonte. Jeff Gordon here this afternoon. I've had 70 liters of Wallace Martin urban in his heart and Jeff has led the most 81 so far with 28 43 in which he hadn't had the action that the front straight could Rachel II felt it would be some kind of race that when he lived and Sterling Marlin and Rick mast are competing for seventh position the mass goes to the inside takes it from the gates with Sterling beeping on the lead lap fighting with Walter, who has 9, one, two and three, nose to tail, whoa , is crying his basket inside Gifford Bakula. scarves move I think Jeff Burton's car is stronger after being raced according to others after being raced, yeah, taking the lead.
Jeff Forks takes from Jeff Burton the theme is that dairy coke is smoking or others have a hard look, I beg you. Sorry, Ricky Rudd is still in the lead, he hasn't stopped well yet. He pitted 25 laps before the other favorites and that gave him a lot of time out there playing with Derek, which gave Ricky Rudd a lot of time in his race. with new tires, let's go to Fiesta cherry country, let me show you the tire that Jeff Gordon was trying to hold on to was a guy, a Hannity, evidently, this is the right front tire that we saw smoking when he had the brake zone, It's supposed to say Goodyear Eagle. all of that has been rubbed off where it came into contact with Dave Marcus take a look at the front of the car pump the tire look we're with Martin's post this guy was showing right here that's the wire showing the tire we jammed the brake The area is Coughlin's wish, that's how close Bingham was cutting the right front tire, what a second look, although never anything so dramatic for a terrible body.
He's trying a consistent cellular routine, stop last time for tires and fuel, no problems with the car, but Terry just hopes to do it. be one of the factors for us to get to the end on the last bill angry, clapping a lot, loose state if you have four tires, drop the right rear half a pound over there. Rick also checked the tires because that car had come loose a lot today. I added three rounds of wedge to the fight with Dale Jarrett, which is up to six, five villages broadcast a very clean race track, I've never seen Rick mast going to catch Dale Jarrett in seventh place, nothing at all, just I was holding the steering wheel, yeah, there's Ricky Rudd. the race leader and Jeff Gordon are close and not far away will bite him before he's like three or four seconds in.
There you see Gordon go into the tires with driving pressure at 25 laps. Ted Musgrave just went two laps behind our pole-sitter, he's in 21st position, so ted musgrave went from pole to a fight here in the race, let me correct myself, it's 20 laps, red stopped at the lap 224, lat charge, we understand that many drivers complain about debris on the track and Jeff Gordon passed Ricky Rudd. now and so is Dale Earnhardt, so Rudd's tires are going and he'll be stopping before long, you can bet he can probably do another 20 caution laps, you'll get that chance right now. the track is good, oh boy, business is going to pick up right now, I'm telling you it's our third safety car yellow flag of the afternoon picking up Jeff Gordon, the race leader, we see the flag is out and how the green flag is on the way to the pits is open.
Are you going to comment on Corday? It's been 20 laps on Instagram. The lead lap comes to the right of your screen. Dale Jarrett is here. John. They will encourage the first child. They'll do a track bar adjustment on that car in one round. The right sides have already changed. The left sides are now preparing to go out. Let's go to Bill Weber. What a joke for Ricky Rudd. The shortstop this net was set to 20. They desperately needed this if his strategy was to work the right sides that were already in the putt. The left side tires, nose to tail, now nudge.
Chevrolet's Dale Jarrett will start third and will be running in four, so it was actually a great caution flag moment for Ricky Rudd, who will find himself in fourth position. Tison Holly Farms 400 break and will be back in a moment. Stay with us. Ernhardt and I were racing and fighting most of the day, I think or believe. Dale had a dominant car that day, then he faded at the end and I came in pretty strong at the end and as soon as I caught Dale there was about 10 laps left and I made him. a small noise to let him know he was there. back there I went into turn one, I got under them, I was completely at peace with him going into turn one, you know his version, he's going to say that I approached him and my version is that he attacked me, but long story short, we got together, turned into turn one, neither of us backed into the fence, we just fell into the corner, did a 180 degree turn and slid out of the slot and it seemed like a few minutes later, Jeff Bodean passed and won. race and it was a pretty memorable moment, they were fighting for the lead and they came to turn number one and I use five words to describe what happened that I will never forget, not necessarily because of the words but because I reach new levels with my voice. and every time I think about those five words my voice hurts a little that day, Erna went out first and I understand that through many bottles of beer and things like that in her car she caused some damage and Linda had a new car. that day, so we didn't go out on that, we went out lying in the van full with a blanket over us, so we didn't know there were people there, you had a lot of angry Earnhardt fans.
There were a lot of angry Road fans at the time, so it looked like a riot was about to break out, so I felt like the best place to be was probably just low profile above the racetrack, which made me welcome that. , you still wake up like this, huh. that's not so easy it used to be Dale Jarrett what great movies currently in third place never seen Ricky Rudd and Bill Weber have a Ricky Rudd sequel oh well Ricky Rudd has had many hectic moments on this track, is he open to having a Well, here today in the final race, his tires on that tight edge came off about 70 laps in, so Danny burned the bars on the team and decided to bring Ricky in on lap 220.
They convinced him to come in for a short stop, we'll cross our fingers. and see if it works well, it did, they received the yellow flag, they are back in front. Rudd just congratulated his team on the radio. We don't have a great car, but we do have a great strategy. I will never doubt you again. Very good performance on pit road. Ricky is trying to recover from his first DNF of the season last week at Martinsville and there is the pit summary showing where they were before the pit stop and where they are now, and Dale Jarrett is the big winner. he was sixth before the pit stop and comes out in third position now we're going to take a break we'll be back with more live coverage just a moment from North Wilkesboro North Carolina Tyson Holly farms 400 greenspan friends yeah we got the wool I'm having a sunny day and you won't find better fans than here in North Wilkesboro.
Everyone is out today to watch the final NASCAR Winston Cup race. Wow, what's going on here? I saw the smoke. Other singles walk. I wonder if. it could be the gear, the pinion seal is gone and the gear is on fire under the bad cotton. First home and the stearic car guy from Oaks. Some scary moments for Derrick Coleman Derek when he was owned by him, he will come out, come out and you were. trying to unhook it, well you know, we've got so much to unhook these days, you could take a little time, but it's a really unfortunate day for the Badcock people, you know, we're here, go away, honestly, well, Derek Coates will try to get it . reset and get back into the race just as we get back to green Bob 129 laps to go and this one here it comes and the green flag comes out again Jeff Gordon Dale Earnhardt Dale Jarrett Ricky Rudd and Park Park and there's a battle for second place Jared, car 88 , it's a Hyundai between drives, once again they make head contact, it's fun, you don't want to take anyone out, and something is dragging Dale's car, which is on the side, the aromatic piece that falls on the rocker panel what hurts.
It doesn't hurt at all now, the wonder is that he didn't take another look coming out of turn two on the backstretch, that's where the initial contact happened right there to go up his left rear and once again here we're still going to try to go inside and Earnhardt came down so they made contact twice with Judeo, they're a little worried about each other at that point here's Mark Martin followed by Jeff Burton and Sterling Marlin at Smith's Dolf Ford is definitely trying to tell those stars let them go. out of the way a moment ago they came together coming out of turn two The progress of Jeff Burton and your Ricky Rudd now bred in the back of the year 34, on the right, it's really coming out of the turn so there is, it's a good bite coming out of there apparently both tails are saying there's no damage, no foul in that backstretch incident, maybe a little foul, but there's no damage to either car, they'll cure that.
Oh, it looks like the onboard camera is from Marc Barnes, but there is a mark, the mark is correct. In the back of his teammate Jeff Burton putting his right ear Toby and the four cars stop outside Jeff Burton listening to the bodies in this mix also coming out correct Terry Labonte is only when until now 96 was here , this joke is only 81 points behind in the standings has to do with the five cars during that last crew chief, Cherokee Hardy, says the cars behind the drivers are fine, in fact, they are running as fast as the leader behind and the track position is killing, you're not getting anyone.
This is more patient than Terry Labonte, why is he so good on the track like this? You have to be very patient not to abuse those tires or the car. Terry has five top-five finishes in the seven short track races we've had this year. Look, no one is officially listed as out of the race, he says and then I told you that dairy coke just came back to the race track, so all 37 cars, I think they blew the wall right now. I think they're all out there in 15, none of them. They are still on the lead lap.
How about? Only 115 laps left. There is a gap between leader Jeff Gordon and second place. Dale Earnhardt. Dale Jarrett is third followed by Ricky Rudd and Mark Carter. 108 laps to go here at North Wilkesboro. Gordon, the race leader, Dale Earnhardt, running second, there's Dale Jarrett, third and the statement is Jeff Burton, it's Terry Labonte, seventh. Rick mast. Hello, Sterling Marlin is yours aboard Kyle Petty's car. It's like we had some damage to our camera. We're betting we see how it could have ever happened, we saw John Andretti have some contact with Nemechek's 87 car. Wow, Nemechek went sideways lowering the corner flags on a dirt track.
Brett had to brake and then stack a course. When braking, everyone avoided spinning, everything is fine, we go again with Kyle Petty, who is back in 33rd position, five laps back. Well of course everyone wants to win this final race here in North Wilkesboro, there's Wally Dallenbach with the flat left rear end he always had. a tough day had several unscheduled pit stops he's back in 34th five laps down now he's going to go down at least one more this is in Kyle's car again let's see what happened to Molly Wow that's what next from our camera I guess I thought they were clearly going under Brett's car and learn that artists talk about drivers who won final races at tracks that are now off the calendar Geoff Bodine at Nashville Rusty Wallace at Riverside and what guy has that distinction had two tracks where you won the final race in Ontario and the final race at Texas WorldSpeedway John Kernan the trivia question is yours if you win yes what do I get Arsen?
I didn't read my story where's Bob? What was it, oh, never mind, Gordon's got his hands full here guarding him like a little Nine cars are on the move, we get that too and he's another one that the longer they run on those tires, the better Jeff Burton gets. Let's look at an interval on the track here, we remove the wall from there. I missed it. I was looking for a right deal. opposite interval and guess what sir or that's nine tenths of a second, he reduced that interval but here we go, the second corner goes up and no banana hits the wall quite well, so my effect that the paint on the right rear tire is white and it's not yellow anymore, there's a certain Earnhardt, he was important lymphocyte outside just a moment ago, now he's dropping in five, Jeff's green car is approaching Dave Parker, wow, look at his super ATO Norte, them inside, yes, sir, it's there too, Earnhardt. goes in the lead, they got stuck in traffic there just for a moment and that allowed Vijay to catch up with them with a shout our battle here for the lead Earnhardt running a slightly higher line there on 1 and 2 here we go you said Jordan Jordan Okay, Michael, don't play this for that reason.
Betty is a racing fan, but Earnhardt has a bob doc. Well, we hope the foot to the card works in terms of pit strategy, they set the left, divide that left mark of 140 in half and laugh. expect to see the three laughs three in 43 laps there's Richard Childress he's looking at a situation above his driver Give him his car here's car 41 Ricky Craven and Kenny Wallace's 81 made an extra unscheduled pit stop under green is in 22nd position but the 81 car is in fifth position, so Kenny Wallace is having a great race here today and here he goes, the Horton once again takes the lead into turn three, he doesn't drift down the track, Bernard wanted to get into the DuPont car vacuum, don't back down after that. crab, but it's there with the palace while the Diamondback we saw it have a flat left rear a moment ago with those new tires, it's dark shepherd, those three cars are beating Sterling Marlin keeps the next position eight, there's an arc, yeah Oh, he won.
Don't leave each other alone, Jeff is going to argue too much. Second place is David Jared, who is locked in the rear bumper. Now they are both bored. Jarrett's Cartman runs out of good going into turn one, but Gordon has better traction for me, my kids. walking into it and Ricky Rod is in this mix, oh yeah, he falls next to Jeff, but Gordon continues to hold on to that spot. Jarrett just can't get away from a Brooke bastard on the outside, he'll never be the last. It's Robert Pressley on the wall, he laughs. 3:12 to get a Latin video you won't be able to do it we race again with 80 laps to go you're really going to have to pay for those tires to last 80 laps fourth caution period of the In the afternoon, Robert Pressley makes his car turned in the right direction and so, with the safety car at the front of the field, the pits were reopened and here comes Earnhardt Gordon and others, in fact 15, will come in right now, everyone who is. on the bait lamb, let's go to John Curtin, it will be a four tire change in the chassis tuning coming out of the corner, so they will make the chassis sit on the right rear and already come around the left side of the lever Brad wanted. to do 65 laps, then stop, then 65 will have more than 80 laps to finish this race now, if it stays green, right side, finish, come to the lab, no chassis adjustment, right rear linkage problems, until Jerry hit Jeff Gordon Dale, learn. are coming face to face with what could be the final pit stop and Winston Cup racing in this historic facility, they have bailed out with half a pound of air pressure twenty four, side by side, they write to the end and the three You got it guys, he's going to get out before everyone else, it was close, but Dale and Dee will have the lead when we get back and when we get back racing at North Wilkesboro under our fourth yellow flag period of the afternoon, you haven't lost a lap , but they just turned green. here they go down to complete the first lap under the green Earnhardt Dale Jarrett are good together to live below and our return - he has a nose up there we will take the lead again and here comes Dale Jarrett on the right behind him together they were pumping the church make the pass this time here's Jerry's shot Jeff Thornton wanted to take the lead as soon as the green came out because Jeff told Wright that when we have some left on our tires I can't run the high groove on the third deck and win our Tires may not last 80 laps.
I know Earnhardt's will we will see how it plays out. We'll take a bow, the best pit stop of the day for Jeff Burton's 99 team. less than 20 seconds, we are very confident that they will be strong at the end of this race if they stay green, in fact, they believe they will be the best car in the last 20 laps. It's not the same story for Terry Labonte. worst thing about their car jacks, Gary gr told me unless the chassis adjustment they did with shim and air pressure works Terry Labonte won't win here today John Curtis without chassis adjustments and air pressure justice, they are planning on racing all the way without changing tires you can tell Rick to take care of the tires take care of the tires Kevin Hamlin says now that the sun the clouds have returned over the sun it's cooled down a little that's similar to how McLeod was stay here the truth Spiceps, I He has taken third place from Dale Jarrett and that could be a bad sign for the guys at the front.
We've been talking all afternoon about how good his car is in long green flag races. He's fine here right now. His hair stands on end. They could touch it. I'm the gap between first and third, yeah Burton 2004, kind of let two laps here now just secure the five bonus points for leading the most laps, yeah, I think Earnhardt is holding up Jeff Burton right now a bit like maybe Jeff. Taking that second place out of our hearts goes to second, the best result of his career at Richmond, not long ago, he finished third, that's the best result of his career, so he's having the best race mother of his career at the NASCAR Winston Cup, about 1.2 seconds behind Jeff Gordon at the moment. the fleet seems to stay about the same between JeffGordon and Jeff Burton they ran some really good races here guys but we had a great race here this afternoon Rusty dropped back to eight for some reason Rusty has had a hard time making contact with up and three and four and the mascot Rick together in rich call Michael Waltrip, who is there in the ninth position, Jerry, for some reason, members of Tucker Robin and many, and said that the car just will not be consistent because the sea is rough, the car comes loose, they come in, they make an adjustment to the car, it gets too tight, the racing car while the chassis that was gone and he said luck is also a pot trying to get close to Rusty Wallace.
Mark Martin is back in 10th place, yes, Mark is struggling a bit at the moment and right up there at the top, Michael Waltrip was another one who has benefited. Back when Ricky Rudd did it, he and Morgan Shepherd, we'd both seen them laugh. I'm sure there are some fans out there watching, well, these guys take the lead again on the left, they make early stops for the kids under the green, they ran faster than the leaders. racing and then when the leaders made their pit stops, that put them back on the lead lap and then the yellow flag came out.
Mark Mark had his first outing here in April 1981, twenty-seven marks marking the family at another Napa course. summary showing 15 cars in the lead Mark Martin looking for his skin 1896 his best finish here in 1996 was at Sears Point in Michigan second here is a battle for position mayor 43 in '75 and 18 12 13 14 and 15 take another break 63 laps to go, the laps are going by quickly here Jeff Gordon right now driving Tyson Holly Farms 400 Jimmy Spencer remembering fond memories of North Wilkesboro a pole one type top finish in the top five Jimmy Spencer right now running in lap position up front is Jeff Gordon, that lady who shrinks Bob, he's every lap getting about half the length of a car, honey, here's the recap of the Budweiser race.
Jeff Gordon leads 151 of the first 344 laughs. 18 leadership changes for cars. 29 laps with a bit average. over 95 miles has led a lap on flute court has again earned the five bonus points for leading the most laps Hamilton Wallace Earnhardt Park Urban Rudd in Burton has also led the athletes normally here we would show you cars out of the race no There's none for everyone still running, you know, last year all the cars finished a race, right? Yes, there were 36 cars running at the end of the race last year and we started 37 this year, right? So this year is a record, it breaks last year's record. and that is a problem that is the traffic because they had never seen traffic like this before, all the cars were going very hard every two laps.
Ray Evernham, tell this young driver, Jeff, put the tire away, don't spin the tires in the corner, put those tires away. Jeff Burton's staff are extremely optimistic, they believe this race starts in the sand lab and then they think they will be the strongest in the last turn 24. Now they have to realize that you saw Buddy Parrot there looking at his driver Jeff Burton and how Ned did it. I've been telling you that Burton gets better as he goes, here he runs the green flag and now he moved right behind Jeff Gordon with 49 laps to go, this traffic is also at Taylor's pitcher and his car is not as bad. this incredible stat board, the short tracks, has been very big, three, seven top three finishes, an average finish of 1.7, accumulated 150 points on the short tracks that prevail in them, we see seven races in the top 5, seven short endurance races, that's it, very bad, more, I guess.
Another statistic is that of all the races Jeff Horton has been running, his worst finish of the year is seven, he has now had five DNFs, but his worst finish, while Terry Labonte returned to fifth place, is just under three and a half a second behind the leader Dale Earnhardt is sneaking up on him once again and they learn that art is getting closer, you're there, he's just gradually creeping up there with a tooth, he lost about half a second, although he passed from 3.4 to the geeks when he ran. He now himself will lose more time since he can't run on the race tracks.
He waits, he wants to run and that's one of the reasons why, as close as India was, he got into this traffic that he's having to go through right now. or that zero on the next sled lap may not seem very important, but it's true, you would love to have five points for leading. He hasn't been up front today and is now at the top of the pillar with Rusty Wallace looking towards eighth place Mark Martin. and Mark Hart just passed Rusty Wallace for that eighth spot, Jeff Green's major work traffic inland, here comes Jeff, Jeff's birth, Jeff and Jeff here, but that's a lot of: where's Boudia Jefferson taking patient Price there right now?
He knows he has a good race car or a good opportunity to think he's not going to force it Jeff Green is, let's go to Earnhardt for oh yeah, just take off the gas, don't buy a boss who goes after the force F Drive Earnhardt crushes the car this year State Park driving next year, the number 29 vectors drive today Jeff Burton in 16th place and the points enter this race, while Jeff Gordon of course is at the top of the point here in the spring Jeff Burton finished 29th Jeff Burton is in second place right now behind Jeff Gordon returns with more in just a moment, welcome back to ESPN Speed World's live coverage of the Tyson Holly Farms 400 from North Wilkesboro Speedway in Carolina of the North, presented by Sears Tire & Auto centers by Miller Brewing Company, a proud Miller sponsor. racing team we race for beer and buy Firestone America's Tire since 1903 one hundred and sixty-seven laps are in the books you're looking at the race leader, Jeff Gordon's number 24 car and now he's started to pull away from Jeff Burton who's racing second let's get to Bill Weber, well it's been a good day for these guys here in the Jeff Burton pits, they had a handle on the stops before, they drove a lot better, the car got worse and then they realized, the yellow flag came back to enter, they still believe that this heart will get better.
The solution has lost a bit of ground, although Jeff had me in the final laps. Ness, he has an urn arm. I started his own story. The third classified are in the streets. Not Goodwrench Chevrolet, they have 30 laps left and there. It's Dale's fourth place car drivingwith Dale it is the interval between 1st and 5th only 4.8 seconds separate the top 5 and where is Terry Labonte there is the time and then where is the sixth place car which would be Rick Mast Brick, the tires on this scooter do not seem be - call him pretty good, but don't call Ricky Rudd, there he is and Mark Mark seems to be Ricky Rudd.
The next car would speed up. Rusty Wallace strong there for a while, might get by with that car, but. like a faded night of racing and there's Bobby Hamilton ESD still so strong before there's Hillen Darrell Waltrip and then the 11th place car Sterling Marlin Waltrip will be the next car in the race position on the lead lap on the outside, it comes in the interior of a detailed cabin Stricklin is 16 years old to surpass Michael Waltrip in 12 now, where was 13 Bobby Labonte, Interstate Batteries sure, 13 places very little leader, laughs finally the last car on the lead lap is Morgan Shepherd, we made a lap one drachma ago, there is a leader and right behind him is Kenny Wallace.
Tina just went down a lap. It was the year and 15th place. Gort can't deal with the heavy traffic there now, but he's making his way through a Morgan Shepherd Lambo. Dale Earnhardt has taken second place from Jeff. Burton, I'm sure Jerry dialed the magic number because no one is better at saving that white rear tire and the guy driving the 3-burner hasn't said a word the last time they're quiet, he won the race and once he made it to the final. word about the last few roads in victory lane, woofer, he wants it bad, sit with 42, best he can to catch 24, so Dale Earnhardt catches leader Jeff Gordon in the last 20 laps of the race, Well, we'll take a break. and I'm back to answer that in a moment Tyson's farms Holly 400 is the last laps 384 30 complete circuits there is Dale Earnhardt running in second place trying to catch up to race leader Jeff Gordon Dale Earnhardt is looking for his first among the five first and 12 races for his second season in the top ten that just doesn't sound like what you're talking about when you talk now he's had some trouble getting through that traffic here's a battle for third Burton takes the position we thought Jeff Burke was going to be in a position to challenge the possibility of winning this race the last time we had a first time last year and that person was Wartburg, his brother, who didn't make the race here this weekend, a Rockingham last fall, yes, Gerrae moved to third now but there are only four races left after the NASCAR Winston Cup broadcast will be in the final event of the year in Atlanta Georgia Rick Mast for Hooters Pontiac is currently in sixth place there Western Automotive Mechanic of the race Dan, congratulations on dancing here the winner of the Western auto mechanics race ten laps to go to our leader, you can see on the pylon, he is putting Michael Waltrip one lap behind the 13th place car, so now there is 12 live.
Waltrip was at 12. I don't know. I know it doesn't look like Gale Dale is gaining much ground on Dale the bitch, and maybe they'll burn our Jeff Gordon, he's moving out of the picture, the parking lot six mark continued its march and Bobby Hamilton's 43 is fighting against he. for the position there are still no cars out of the race 37 are still running in fact 43 is trying to pass Mark Martin just a few laps come on pass mark mark now forget it funny the rear view mirror full of Betty The blue mark says go Bobby Bobby Hamilton passes in eighth place Mark Martin tonight is Jeff, it's a 1.7, that six-second lead or Jeff Borkin over Dale Earnhardt, which makes it easier to try to see the checkered flag, there are only four and a half laps to go, we are getting closer By the time the NASCAR Winston Cup race ends and North Carolina, who will be the last man to win here, has a good indication right now, less than four records are rain, but the cars turned some laps in the best classes and those few tractor laps were very valuable to Jeff Gordon.
He ran 15 laps in practice and the car abandoned some debris got into the carburetor and blocked it. Fifteen laps into the race and I'm sitting in the drazi battle for fourth here while Terry Labonte tries to take it from the back. of this race going down for Jeff Gordon in corner number four, now he's at the line and the white flag comes out for Jeff Gordon with less than five-eighths of a mile to go and the fall of the checkered flag here in North Wilkesboro brings down the Final curtain of NASCAR Winston Cup racing from the first race on October 16, 1949 a five five o'clock victory here for Jeff Gordon September 29, 1996 Jeff Gordon wins the final race at North Wilkesboro, the bar Tyson Holly, it's his 10th win of the season which equals the most wins in a season in the 1990s ever, Rick Hendrick, you've got a tough job, you know two of your cars aren't going to win on race day. race, but this one and his driver have won ten times, it has been incredible. year, you know the guys, they worked so hard and I just hope we can stay down on their points.
Jason win the ball, our sponsors and for our guys, how's your tribe? It's an incredible entry. He got his name in the North Wilkesboro record book. He is the last one. that'll win a Winston Cup racer, I've never been there before, you know, this place has been very good to us, we want a lot of racing here, that's Rick Hendrick, the owner of the winning car here at North Wilkesboro, it's his sixth win here and Jeff Gordon is the 38th driver to take the checkered flag to win an event at this historic old facility in the scrub mountains of North Carolina.
We will be back in North Wilkesboro North Carolina. Jeff Gordon's winning car has been elevated to the victory platform second place goes to Dale Earnhardt here's John Kernan well, Dale Earnhardt speaking to all the media will listen for a second and then we'll answer our question, you know, the tires that I just punished, hell, I'm trying to run with him. down, I was doing something good there and then I got stuck and there was some traffic on the laps, but you know, I asked, the name of the game is being there, where you have to be there and we weren't there ten, yeah, we have a open space. home at Dillard or Chevrolet, we're going to have a great day there, so running well today gets everyone pumped for tomorrow, but considering that in the last few weeks you've gone 12 races without a top five and a boom, this has to feel almost like a victory, right?
It feels very good. The team needed to do this. They needed a boost. Things are changing and I can't say enough about him because of his race car. They did a good job. I really had to take it easy on these tires, the tires were a factor and the race track so they wore out and we definitely weren't going to get new pavement for this last race so we had to take it easy on the tires and doing the best we could and managing the tires is what it was all about that's Dale Earnhardt a second place let's go to the McDonald's winner's circle interview with dr.
Jerry hits Jeff Gordon good getting ready to get out of the car they had been racing at North Wilkesboro Speedway 22 years when Jeff Gordon was born in 1971 and now gets his first win in the finals at North Wilkesboro Speedway Rick Hendrick is ready to congratulate Carl he, what an emotional moment here, a young man charged with leading this sport into the next century, rights to the final chapter on a race track that was there and in NASCAR, the beginning of NASCAR here is Jeff Gordon, stepped out of the race car, Well, Jeffrey, what an effort. This Brook comes in and gets a big kiss from her husband Jeff, what an outstanding effort today, man, I'm telling you this team is amazing, amazing, you know, we tried to save tires all day and I had to change my line.
On that last set of tires I learned a little something from Dale Earnhardt today, you know, I'm always learning something from women and he had a little better line on his save and a little better tires. He could be very fast on new tires but they had faded in the long runs and man I'd say the guys did a great job fitting the last set of tires and it was perfect. I don't know, again I want to thank DuPont automotive finishes. Quaker State coke, it's a great day, the Lord certainly was. with us today I heard you say to Ray when that last pit stop cable you're not sure you can run with it and harden the Highline into turn four but when the green came out you took off well you know what happened was I had Such a good start there and the tires came in so fast that I came out and had to adjust my line and start looking and you know, right there before we got there for that last tire pit stop, I was just on my line to see if I like that on the outside before and I started arching a little higher coming into one and shooting straight from two and man, it worked.
You know, Burton was honest and I was trying to save him, not push him too hard, but then once I got into traffic, man, that thing was incredible, you've been in the record books for so many reasons, you'll be in the record book. records for last winter's winner, a twist in People's Cup racing for a Raceway that has to be special, so special, that's why I'm so excited because I want to say this is North Wilkesboro. I'm supposed to win North Wilkesboro and Martin's, but I don't know what's going on. It's been crazy this year, but it's going to be the last Winston Cup race, it's going to be here, you know it's like you're sorry, but at the same time you know you're connected to going down in the record books and I think these fans saw a great show today. it was a great race to the fin a special young man wins a special race the final in a special Jeff Gordon, the 1995 NASCAR Winston Cup champion, has been named a third-quarter nominee for the NASCAR Man of the Year award True Value just earned his third consecutive win and his fourth in the last five races.

The true value of the Man of the Year award is based on a combination of community on and off the court. participation, the winner received $50,000 to be split between the driver and his favorite charity. Jeff is involved in several charitable efforts, including the Leukemia Society of America, the MacLeod Easter Seals Center for Addictive Diseases, and the Homeland Security Awareness Program. Wilkesboro, the winners last weekend. Well, Ted Musgrave was our first winner, as he won the Busch pole award here on Friday in a session that was interrupted by rain yesterday. Mark Martin drove to victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Lowe's 250 and today and the Holly Farms 400 was Jeff Gordon writing his name into the record books. We have had many special moments here in these parts of North Carolina, but perhaps none more special than what occurred one year ago today when a driver returned from a terrible injury here in North Wilkesboro is the easiest answer is my return was pretty exciting just being back and going to the race track I actually raced the Winston Cup car and the truck at the same time and did a lot of testing at Wilkesboro it was an exciting day probably what really comes to mind is when we went out to qualify, I could see people standing, but it was amazing because I could hear the fans cheering me on when I was qualifying, I mean the noise and the engine and everything didn't drown out the fans, welcome back to North Wilkesboro, here are the unofficial results, bullets indicate drivers who led a lap in the double bullets there, Jeff Gordon's name indicates he led the most laps and there were 11 cars on the lead lap when the checkered flag fell on this historic facility.
The gentlemen see Hut Stricklin again in 16th place with the car down and then the teammates two laps back and look at all the people still sitting in the grandstand accidentally. to get home, yes, there is certainly not as much of a rush to get out of the stands as we have seen here in the past, everyone wants to take one last look, take a deep breath and think about the good times that have happened here in North Wilkesboro. and all the cars finished the race here todayand here the points after today's race and the lead now up to 111 Jeff Gordon over Terry Labonte Jerry final thoughts incredible the history of this race track and what a young man is leading us into the next century, he is the one star young and bright, he puts on the end, the final period, the final chapter and behind me his victory lane continues and you look in the stands at what we were talking about and we hear about the people who want to savor these last moments and they just don't want to leave. features veteran track but lots of young stars Jeff Gordon Victory Lane good run for Jeff Burton I think as we move on to some of these new tracks you'll see more and more rising stars miss out on tracks like North Wilkesboro but enjoy watching the young ones stars run towards tomorrow bill.
I think we're going to miss the type of racing we see here to follow the short tracks like North Wilkesboro. The race we had today was a great race. You had four or five cars during the entire race. fighting each other I'm not so sure we'll see that at some of those bigger tracks and I'm a little sad to see Wilkesboro go because I've been coming here maybe not as much as Benny Parsons or Ned or Jerry, but since the beginning of the 80 and I have really enjoyed it very well next Saturday we will be at Sears Point Raceway Sonoma California or some of us will be at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at the Kragen NASCAR race at five o'clock Eastern time our next broadcast will be on El Sunday, November 10, the final race of the 1996 NASCAR Winston Cup season, the Napa 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, next up here on ESPN we will be the baseball game between the Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, well, we have been talking about the special. memories throughout the race and now it's time to look back one last time at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

They came from all over the brushy mountains to see the best that stock car racing had to offer drivers like Junior Johnson, a local hero who, along with people like the NAB Hall of Fame mechanic, won races as a driver. and car owner; in fact, North Wilkesboro became known as the track the young man built for the tenth time this year.
Darrell Waltrip wins a Grand National race and, in turn, number three Neil Bonnett. still has the lead, but Darrell Waltrip is going to make one last attempt to the inside now he runs low to the inside coming out of the corner, he won't be able to do it with Neil Bonnett wins Waltrip, second place, North Wilkesboro and Terry Labonte, first Winston. 1987 Jr. Cup Race Johnson's featherweight victory here at North Wilkes here comes the field for the white flag North Wilkesboro Speedway many memories for fans and drivers Richard Petty has won more races here than anyone and has helped build the tradition and history of this historic facility 37 drivers until today had taken the checkered flag and won a race here in North Wilkesboro, some of the really big names in NASCAR Winston Cup competition took the checkered flag here and won a race and now in the record books Jeff Gordon's name goes, the end.
