[Niche Selection] 4 Methods to Find Niches

Jun 07, 2021
- What's wrong everyone? This is Anton from dropshiplifestyle.com and on today's episode of Drop Ship Weekly we'll talk about product descriptions. So, this will specifically be the method we'll use when writing unique product descriptions for our Shopify Drop Shipping stores. But keep in mind that it doesn't matter if you're writing product descriptions for Amazon, or for a product you import, or a product for your private label, or a product you sell, you know, literally anywhere. If you are going to post on Craigslist, it would make sense to follow this format because what it will do is give your future customers more information.

It will help them make better decisions and, ideally, help them choose you. Some other note I'll make before we get into the process and what I'll do is write a description of the product. I'll sort of rewrite the product description so you can see the process, from start to finish. I think that would be very helpful. But I should also point out before I do that that you might be thinking, okay, this is great, I could rewrite the product descriptions, but I have a 1000 SKU product catalog, right? I sell 1000 different products, how am I going to rewrite product descriptions or write unique product descriptions for 1000 of them?

More Interesting Facts About,

niche selection 4 methods to find niches...

Well, the good news is that that's not what I would recommend doing. Especially if you've been around for a while, your business has some traction. What I would recommend doing is going to your Google Analytics account, simply going to the content section and then sorting by the most popular content pages. So where do most people go on your website? From there you can look at the different product pages and then choose maybe the top 20% products; honestly, maybe at first just take the top 20 products and focus on rewriting those descriptions because the 80/20 rule. If that's where the eyes are already, that will be your easiest win: rewrite some product descriptions, instantly increase your conversion rate, and start making more money with your existing business.

Now, one more thing I should say is that this is something I recommend doing. And with drop shipping, a lot of people just think, oh, it's so easy, I'm just going to go, I'm going to make my store, I'm going to take all the product descriptions from the suppliers, I'm going to upload them, I won't have to touch anything and I will earn all this money. Listen, the truth is with dropshipping and using Shopify it's not difficult, but remember this is a real business. If you want to be one of the percentage that really excels and wins and builds a real business that they can actually live off of, save and build an empire from, then you have to do the work, okay? .
niche selection 4 methods to find niches
Yes, there is real work involved. Just like I teach on dropshiplifestyle.com on my delivery boat plan. And by the way, if you're not a part of that yet, go to dropshiplifestyle.com, click on the courses at the top and then choose which one is right for you, but definitely still there. Because that covers my entire process from A to Z. But again, the people who are successful, of which there are many, are the ones who actually do the work, put it all together, and build something of value. So in this video, I'm going to give you, again, a high-level overview of what product descriptions look like if you're willing to take that extra step and actually build a store that has a chance of winning.
So with that being said, let's move on and get into this week's episode of Drop Ship Weekly. (upbeat music) Well, I thought the best way to do this with you is to just share a split screen. One of the product descriptions I will be rewriting. And then on the right, now I have Google open. I'm going to take you through Google and show you why it's really important to rewrite product descriptions. Again, for products you already have traction with. So the website on the left, at least to my left, is a Drop Ship Lifestyle demo store.
So it's not a store where we take orders, not a store where we really research a

niche

or anything, but a store that we built so that people could see what our stores are really like. So right now you're looking at one of the product pages and this is the Pet Gear Expedition pet stroller. Now, this product, with the description that appears right now, as well as all its features, benefits, even photos of the product, all come directly from the manufacturer of Pet Gear. So typically when you get approved for a drop shipping provider, if you follow the drop shipping model within my Drop Ship Lifestyle Coaching Program, they will give you a CSV or PDF file and it will have things like product names , things like prices, descriptions, and image links.
Basically everything you see right there. Now, here's the problem with that, on one hand I'm grateful because it's a great starting point, but let's do this, we'll go to this description here, this stock description. Again, this has not been edited in any way, nor modified at all. So I'm going to copy it, go to Google and paste it. And let's see, I'm looking for the text that matches. So here's that product on Amazon and you can see all the words in black are matches, right, that's what Google is associating with what I just searched for. So here's that description on Amazon, here's that product description on Pet Gear Inc, here's that description on Home Depot, Home Depot, Home Depot.
Petco, a lot of different websites, right. So as you can see, that's what happens because as you know, if you're part of Drop Ship Lifestyle or if you're planning to be an internet retailer for other brands, you're not going to be the only person selling. You will have competition in this, which is fine, but you will want to stand out from the competition. And as you just saw here, if all you do is copy and paste the product at will, then you'll have the same thing as everyone and their mother. So, we want to take this, we want to make it unique and not only that, we want to make it better.
Now, some of the reasons why we want to do this, one is because it will generate higher conversions for us. If we make this better than it is, more people will buy, which we obviously want. Another important reason, and this is one of the most important ones, is that we can answer all the questions of the customers and educate them almost better about the product. Because at the moment they

find

us because of how we sell, which by the way, if you don't know how we sell, go to dropshiplifestyle.com, click on courses, sign up. But because of the way we sell, when people

find

us, they are very close to making a purchasing decision and are usually trying to decide where to buy, but sometimes they are still not 100% sold on the product. .
They may have more questions or are comparing prices. So if we can take that extra step to push people to the edge, give them the data they need to then buy from us, then we'll be making more than all of our competitors. So, with that in mind, how do you know what people think and how best to answer their questions? Part of this really has to do with how long you're in business, you'll start to get questions. For example, if I were actively sending traffic to this product page, I'm sure people would be, you know, chatting live with us, asking us questions on the site, and calling us, and based on what people wanted to know.
I could really check this out and make sure that if you land there and are interested, you buy it. So keep this in mind: some of the things you will learn over time as you get to know your customers better and your avatar becomes clearer. But you could still do some things even if you don't know anything about the

niche

and this is the niche I know nothing about. Starting from that perspective. Before I delve into this, I will mention one more thing: one of the main reasons for doing this is that Google, which is the largest search engine in the world, appreciates unique content.
So if you see that 10 people are selling this or have it on their website, and our site is the one that has unique content, and if you see that because of that unique content people stay on our page longer, you know, maybe they are clicking on our site longer, so our bounce rate is lower. Then Google will prioritize our site in the search results instead of everyone else who said the same thing. That's another big reason why we do this. Okay, let me go ahead and I'll close this and what I have open here is a Google document.
Now, for our companies, when we do this, it's usually not me doing it. At first I did it all myself, now I outsource this and I would recommend that you do it too if you want to do it for massive product catalogs. And a good way to do it is to have your virtual assistants or whoever you hire to do it do it in a Google document like this so they can review it from here. If you approve it, they can move it to your website. So let's go ahead and start with this section up here, okay.
So let me take that and copy and paste it. And this leads us to say: "Pet Gear strollers" are a great way to take your pet with you "on a long walk in the park," for a walk around the block or maybe even shopping at the mall. ". So it's probably a phrase that they use in all their product descriptions. I'm going to personalize it right now, so let me break this down into sentences here. To make it a little easier to see. Okay, over and over again , if I were doing this, “It would be because this product was already on our top 20% of pages that get traffic.
So, I'd say something like "The Pet Gear" and I see up there they say Pet Gear Strollers, so again, that's generic. their brand name strollers. So I'm going to change that to "The Pet Gear Expedition pet stroller is one of our best-selling and most loved products." "It's big enough "for a big dog" but compact enough to "put it in your car" like you..." You know, whatever. When you get to the park, when you get to the car, "it's compact enough that you can put it in your car," when you're headed to the park "on the weekend." So, trying to make it kind of like, a little bit A little, I don't know, more fun.
And again, this is something you would know after selling them and seeing what your customers asked. You know, can this fold? Can I carry it in my car? And in the photo, you can see it, someone walking through a neighborhood. So you could try to relate it to the product images. Let me see what else they say. "So pet strollers are a great way to take your pet with you on a long walk through a park , "walk around the block, or maybe even at the mall." So, okay, what I'm saying is that I've changed. Let me do this, so we can go online By line here and you could see the differences.
Yours will be in gray, and then I'll make mine, I'll make it blue. So, “Pet Gear Expedition Pet Stroller” is one of our best sellers and most loved product. "It's big enough for a big dog" but compact enough to put in your car "when you go to the park on the weekend." Well, I'm going to say it's for the park or a day of shopping. Head to the park or the mall to do some shopping. Well, this says: "They safely contain and protect your pet wherever you go." So what I want to do now is, right, I definitely want people to know that it's safe, because I'm sure it's a concern.
But I'll see if I can make it more unique and also try to turn some of the features into benefits. So let's see if it talks about, yes, here, the next sentence says, "It has a sturdy frame." and rides very low to the ground." Okay, so I'll say I'll make it blue. "The Expedition," I'll try to use that keyword again. "The pet stroller "is built with," then I see down there, "a steel frame "with a", I'm not sure what would be the correct word for a polyester type tent or a polyester cover. "Polyester" and mesh cover to ensure that it is "strong and safe" but also breathable "and lightweight" ".
Again, try to think, based on what they said, what are the things the customer would probably want. You know, if I, I don't have a dog, but if I had a dog and I was pushing it, I'd probably want to make sure the thing was secure and didn't collapse on itself. But I would also want to make sure there won't be, you know, overheating or anything like that. So again, play with the images because the customer will see the image first and then read this. So, yeah, obviously all of this would be, "It needs to be reviewed, but I would use something like that.
So, here it says, okay, "It's great for big dogs." And then, let's see, it's breathable and lightweight. "It also features" Oh, let's see, where's the waterproof floor, the front swivel and the rear brakes? "It also has "rear brakes" to make sure your dog "stays still." Without rolling. Well, I could add a few more things about the front entrance and such, but for nowWe'll keep it there. I already added this, so what I'll do here is just point it out. I'll mark it in red because these are things that have already been rephrased and expanded a bit.
So if it's included, I'll make it red. It's great for big dogs, okay. Waterproof floor so I would probably add those too. And let me go ahead and leave this here as what the final description would be. Now, the next thing you're going to want to do here is take the features and turn them into benefits. So when I say that I mean all these things down here, of course, these bullets. So I'm going to go ahead and grab these as well and paste them here. Let's why buy this stroller. Good, "Large protective pet compartment" to accommodate even the largest dogs.
Good, "Ergonomic handle with adjustable height" so that any member of your family "can use it." "Wheel brakes and shock absorbers" to ensure a "gentle walk" for your dog. "Removable inertial", inertial, that's one word, interior, "inertial coating" to make it easy "to clean" after a big day. "Easy folding mechanism" so you can store it "in small spaces." "So again, what we're trying to do here, as you can see, all I'm doing is adding to what we've already been given. And these are obviously all true and I'm sure they're all things that People think, "Well, it has a big compartment, so what size dog can it hold?" And I saw on the bottom it says 150 pound capacity, which is huge, so I'll get to the details.
But letting people know, Yes, this can hold your dog even if you have a, you know, a huge beast of a dog, he fits in there. He has an ergonomic handle, so it doesn't matter, you know, if your husband, your wife or a 12-year-old wants to push the dog, he can do it. He has brakes to make sure the ride is smooth and your dog doesn't get thrown around by this thing, right? You can easily remove the interior so you can clean it. And it won't be a wet dog-stinking mess two days later, okay? So, once again, these features become benefits.
Now, this right here says, 600, you know, denier nylon. I have no idea what that means, if someone was reading this maybe they would, I don't know. Honestly, if I were rewriting this for my own site, I'd probably just delete it. But if we left it there, you know, it could explain what that is. Simply built to last, interior safety strap. I don't know what that means, so I figure it out. "Front entry" so your "puppy can get in and out with ease." Adjustable height to handle. So this is something I could add, the adjustable height to handle, up here, where I talked about, let me take that and put it up there.
The fact that anyone in the family can use it. "150 pound capacity" for the larger dogs", or even two "medium-sized", right. Then again, make it something that stands out. Maybe someone was looking at this and thinking, you know, I have two, I don't know, whatever, West Highland Terriers and do they fit? Well, yes, it could hold a 150-pound dog, so it could definitely hold two 30-pound dogs, right? So again, going off of what they originally had, which was stock, which we saw on dozens of websites, making it something unique. Now, again, if I were actually doing this, this would be reviewed, I would make sure I hit all the points, but I don't want this to be a 45 minute long video.
So, yes, this is a very good starting point. Now another tip I'll give you for the description, remember, this video is not about product page optimization, I'm not going to talk about all the other things we do, like images, price guarantees, shipping policies, icons trustworthy. , bonus GIFs, questions and answers, I'm not going to talk about all that. It's just the description section and one thing we do there that I think can benefit you as well is add what we call a staff note or a person's name note. So I'm going to put a note from the staff here.
Now, when I say a person's name, one thing we like to do in our stores is basically have an avatar that is the representative of the brand. So maybe for Happy Paws, if this was a real site that we built, on the about us page it would say, you know, this site was created by, just do it to me, the site was created by Anton Kraly and I an avid, ya You know, dog lover and a photo of me and my dogs. And, you know, I've had dogs since I was a kid and I tell the whole story, and this is what I look for in pet products, which is why I launched Happy Paws.
Obviously, it would be something I would have to think about, but that would all be in the About section. And then on the product pages, again, not for all products, but for the best ones we would have something like this where it said, a note from the staff. And honestly, if I were the avatar, if I were the person on this website, I would probably say a note from Anton. Then I would have a little photo of myself there and then say something like this, maybe: "What I love about the Expedition stroller is how "easy it is to clean" after taking our "senior dog" back and forth." lake. "On this thing, 'all I have to do is spray it' with the hose in the garden, 'let it dry' and then 'it's good as new again.'" Alright, something unique to the product.
Now, I'm not just saying , you know, being told to make something up or pretend it does something that it doesn't. The way we come up with things like that would be, again, if we had data because we were selling it, what customers were telling us about it. As you can see on our product pages, we have reviews, meaning what people have left reviews, what the manufacturer says about it, and what we can find online about it. I definitely want to spend time researching products for things like that. But that just adds another little personal thing that makes your brand stand out.
Because most people, and when I say most, I mean almost none, don't do that. By doing so, you and our brands instantly connect more with the buyer. Not only That's it, you've given them a unique description. Not only that, you've turned features into benefits and really let them know if this is for them or not. And again, assuming that's the case, you'll make some money, okay? One final note: we like to say things about what you should do next. So maybe something like, you know, "This product is in stock now" and can be delivered "in three to five days." Click add to cart now "to place your order securely" and we will send you the tracking number "within 24 hours." Well, whatever it is.
So, kind of, again, a little personalized call to action, reminding them, hey, we've got this. Hey, we will ship it fast. Hey, buy it now. So yeah guys, this is again a pretty high level overview, but I'm sure if you haven't done any of this yet, this should be a big wake up call, a big eye opener on what you can do to get standing instantly. getting Google to rank you better, having better traffic, more traffic, and more of that traffic converting into buyers. Now again, a quick reminder, if you are not part of Drop Ship Lifestyle and you want our complete framework on how we source products, how we select
