NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Talladega | NASCAR ON FOX
May 02, 2023everyone's lined up 36 in the field and we're getting ready to run it's green at Talladega it dips to the bottom when they get to the bottom and that's what I think we'll see early on Phil these the leaders try to run this race by just running around the part bottom of the track and then the outside Lane will see what kind of racing they can do to progress on that bottom line okay that early start cutting mates Chandler Smith said I'm going to let you in and then we'll just log a few laps. John Hunter Neiman controlled the dominated qualifying.
I mean he was a lot faster than everyone else, but faster than a couple of carp. How does that play out in a race like this where you're on the draft so often that everyone takes notice Vince, he's a fast
truck
, we're going to have to push him and work with him, but there you see Lawless pull away and can figure out what happened, he sees that Carson just had a problem getting out. the way it maybe was was a right front tire failure looked like it certainly wasn't corrupt isn't it oh yeah you can see it blows the fender off thetruck
man wow hard contact like you mentioned?Earlier you thought it was certainly a coincidence that Carson was having a problem that could have been debris coming through from Allen's rogue truck that got stuck in the front of Carson's truck. a bit when they reach the final stretch if Chandler Smith wins this stage it will be thanks to the four of John Hunter Nemechek and the pushes that he is doing. hang on to the left right rear corner of that center truck and that will push it forward Chandler Smith now working on the draft trying to get there and cut the lane off the roads to win stage two Chandler Smith passed stage two oh well we are pretty close we had six of those playoff guys another big group see if you're back there sixth, seventh in line you're at pit road speed way before you get there when you get there by yourself fence that you can maximize. we'll see how it plays out with john hunter but i like that watch he wears the tire the tire bounces on pit road jamie i absolutely think we call it a truck herd and mayhem since you saw the tire got away the member of the crew goes to look for him. right sides just for Ben Rhodes that's a member Jessica butting heads with the rest of the crew when you see the crew member going to get that tire huh he's going to help his team of course during the time in Jeske stormy season 52 had to get tires and fuel also same deal for Christian Equus's 98 what you saw was running up front guys so with caution coming out huh really plays in hand of the four Mike or I don't know how it's all going to shuffle but I think you saw there why I like to pit alone it's chaos and he was able to prevent them from pitting the next lap and having those issues and then we saw that tire from Haley Diggin in the middle of the test there and that was because she hit her Tire Care or someone may have hit her Tire carry and took a tire out of her hand foreign here she comes in oh she did yes she caught it and she crossed the line and he ran into his Tire carry and that's why now these guys have to dodge this bouncing tire on Pit Road and what a great job they did and I guess that's what triggered the caution when that crew member ran so close to the race track that's a No-No to get that tire interested in this combination of oh build up on the outside Johnny Sauter involved just like Tanner Gray and Grant hit one of our playoff drivers in that 23 truck yeah , he's done, maybe that stuart freeze strategy and chandler smith zane smith is around the back may have been pretty austin wayne himself was that pink tanner gray tractor on the finger oh it was that grant we were listening to, yes that's right jeff hensley asked if he cut a tire the right rear was gone he had nowhere to go and just got weld. caught up and so did Tanner Graham it was just a chain reaction look at the job Parker Kligerman does on the tide truck right there he slides right in between the great Johnny Solder and Brett Holmes you know, and sometimes it's those near misses that you come back at the end of the day after you've won the race and thank God see coming see coming tiptoeing at the end of the spin I don't know if we'll see it or not but John Hunter Nemechek yes Benedetto he's giving a good push to the homes of Akka and the rear bumper of the 99 Rhodes and that's going to have momentum, he didn't quite get it at first, but now that he's there, look, it's going to be John, he's going to push Ben Rhodes, he's going to push him towards the front, he is they. both are clear and holmes one two down in front of equus that drive was awesome and here they come on the outside now eckers out to join rhodes and the back line moves with a push from de benedetto stays in the lead a couple of chevy's down at the bottom to benedetto and Holmes the Toyotas are side drafting trying to break that white flag is out one to go next one finish next flag finish vents as you mentioned is Holmes the Alabama native trying to win for him for the first time in his Camping World Truck Series career former ARCA champ is out front he might be too old too far in front now Vince Here Comes Rhodes with a push for Marcus' teammate on the outside of his cuts front to Holmes Corey Heim now pushing on the outside Equus on the outside roads on the inside teammates on Thor Sport here they go into the wreck of the trioval to the outside roads still there trying to hold on and the yellow and the checkers fly and it's Fred Holmes Holmes on the outside line and I think Carnage did it everywhere but Brett Holmes snuck in The High Line and I think he got to the line first wow Matt a benedetto he was sideways in the back they were side by side he was too close to call you from me We talk about two thousandths of a second Phil that's what the time and score shows now but it's certainly unofficial wrecked vehicles everywhere we didn't really have a big one but we also ranked at the top of the show . until the end of the last laugh and obviously so many trucks break down and it's not official yet.
Watch this move crashing outside. Brett Holmes somehow gets to the bottom of it. Nemechek did a great job avoiding that. is the block to the top by roads and looking off the track went to benedetto and just out like Holmes I think it is I think it's home it's definitely on the other side of the line no doubt the benedetto and that's what time says and the score right now Holmes wins as you mentioned Michael by two thousandths of a second what a great shot guys that was the yellow flag the yellow flag came out before they got to the finish line back to whatever you need to videotape.
Any evidence they can use to support that I think Holmes got Holmes to the finish line first, but the caution was out before that point and that's what Nascar is looking at to see which vehicle. he was actually in front at the time and depending on the timing of the warning, the switch when the warning becomes official, Benedetto was out of bounds and on the side so they understood everything they forced him down there like so that there's a lot to consider and he was smashing right down there so Johnny jumped walking into the ambulance we'll give him the replay again from above and uh watch out for the warning when they start smashing initially with Corey Heim.
Okay Christian Neck has lost a bit of momentum and then Tyler Ankrum tucked in behind Corey Heim right there, yeah that depends, if the caution flag goes out here does Ben Rhodes win? I mean, it depends on how fast the caution came. And it's hard to tell from the angles which truck was ahead of which when the caution is actually long. Bend roads ahead here though Vince but that's crashing they're crashing like a yellow and remember it's not the caution flag waving it's when you flip the switch to turn on the lights you see Nemechek and Friesen sliding down the infield grass that's not enough it's official the 25th of Matt De benedetto the winner at Talladega the first win of his career guess how many laps did he add? the chain mike, way to go, can you believe how about that?
I'm very happy for Curtis Chad Kendrick and all the guys there on the Rackley team and Matt for Benedetto. Well, what about the work he did holding on to that thing that was crashing into the checkerboard? A lot was expected of this team, wasn't it when Benedetto arrived just because I think the fact that you know that here is a guy who has been in the Cup
series
for seven years now coming to the trucks, gang members are going to come out? and it's been a struggle I mean they've had some struggles and they've gotten better and better and today they finally get what they've been looking for The Checkered Flag their first win and only led in one lap we talked about the unpredictability now it's better than stay with the amazing ending fifth year in a row how heartbreaking when you see the celebration of benedetto and company how heartbreaking it must be for Brett Holmes who I'm sure thought was the foreign winner but the chaos at the end you analyze it and you get Matt De Benedetto, you know it's interesting.I talked earlier about Ben Rhodes saying we can win this race today. This is our race to win. He came very close to doing it. and moving safely into championship four, but it's still a great day for Ben. Josh Sims is with the winner. Matt to benedict. This is a moment. I'm sure you've thought for years throughout your career. What does it mean to be now? celebrating your first career win oh man dammit it's so long to come oh praise God all glory to God and thank you so much thank you man my fans are so grateful that you put up with me so much and that I am a reckless human being sometimes just through life and that is a huge life changer.
I am very grateful, very grateful to do this. I am so thankful for everyone I love. I love you all ugly fans. breath i think i was more nervous waiting to hear what happened yeah and speaking of which i mean not just breaking down that last lap but also breaking down the weight you had at the end or what was going through your mind during these last few 10 minutes oh man my spotter Doug Campbell is amazing we work together so well I think in the cup
series
we've lit like the White Flag twice here or something like that at Talladega so I owe him a lot and by the end we were really committed with staying in the background and pushing this thing pushed well so I vowed to stay there and push whoever is in front of me and I'm so thankful I'm not even so thankful I'm so thankful thank you Lord thank you for a beautiful day and to all these racing fans this is amazing this team deserves it Curtis Sutton my team owner Rackley Roofing supporting me 100 percent this is absolutely amazing and Willie Allen our other team owner , and more surprises, and my team leader.Chad, all of these guys, we've been through some growing pains and this just as much as her.
