I always wear some type of stocking and the chamol that I adopted in ancient times when I used my scoliosis spray because we all know that it is a mortal sin to wear basic corsets on bare skin and now I cannot function without these items, both are unconfirmed ethical , but my current collection of these items is probably over a decade old. and they are still going strong, so I haven't needed to buy new ones. These are items that I will endlessly patch and mend as they are not visible apart from the calf portion of the tights and as long as they are wearable, they are doing their job.
Number one consists of a no-name fast fashion blouse, a simple circle skirt made by me, shoes that are my favorite pair of all time. The American Duchess's Londoners. Historical reproduction. Footwear. Pen tip earrings from an independent jeweler on Etsy and this pair from probably Vint. vintage wire glasses I bought on Poshmark, the second hand clothing resale app, however, be careful as they encourage people to start up and open boutiques of basically new wholesale clothing from mass manufacturers produced specifically for retail on Poshmark, so make sure you're buying real secondhand clothing from independent sellers if you check out the outerwear department.
I have my black reproduction Victorian coat that I made myself and then redid here on this channel. Personally, I find making coats very satisfying. I have so many. coat sewing plans in the future is some kind of unhealthy Ravenclaw scarf which of course I have, but it's probably fast fashion and unfortunately also supports the Harry Potter franchise, which arguably may or may not be something well today, the gloves I bought at a flea market, but I suspect it was more modern and trendy than probably good. The hat was also purchased at a flea market here in New York City and is probably quite old given the amount of visible handwork on it, so I make an effort to treat it. with particularly good care, set number two, once again, a no-name fast fashion blouse, although impressively this one is 100% cotton, unlike my other polyester ones, that's another tip, natural fibers are generally much more environmentally friendly than synthetics, so even if you have to buy fast fashion. natural fiber will be a slight improvement, yes cotton is not great, industrial mass production of especially non-organic cotton is actually quite harmful to the environment, so 100% organic cotton is ideal, but cotton In general it is still better than synthetic plastic fibers. a beautiful kilt that I custom made at an independent Kil making shop a few years ago and is made from a beautiful 100% kilt wool, so this was definitely a very special addition to the

wardrobe

.
I think it is the only one made to measure. not for the piece I currently have, but I hope to change that when I need to start acquiring new clothes and if I don't have time to make them myself, the Blazer is unfortunately also unmentionable fast fashion and I wish so. I could say the opposite, it's one of my favorite items in my wardrobe even though the proportion isn't exactly right for me, but I wear it all the time and have been repairing it endlessly for years. I would really love to take this. to a suitable tailor and have them reproduce a similar one in a nicer material and it actually fits me well, but that will require a bit of saving first.
I'm opting for red tights with this one, yes, when it's cold outside I wear layers. Tights over my base layer of tights and mock Ghillie shoes are, I think, also unfortunately fast fashion for outerwear. I have this amazing wool cape that I found second-hand in Edinburgh a few years ago and let me tell you something that goes along with those Harry Potter dresses. People walking down the street in my glorious royal cape and seeing the looks of absolute wonder on their faces quickly became my new favorite pastime. 10 out of 10 recommend everyday layering for literally everything and I definitely plan to take a pattern of this and make another one in black, so feel free to push your mates to make it happen faster.
I also have, of course, my beloved SL stalker Bonnet witch hat that I made, which yes, by the way, is Professor McGonagle's quidditch tournament hat because oh my goodness. it's too fabulous not to have and a wool tartan scarf I bought secondhand on Poshmark. Let's go for the ultimate Victorian vibes with this next look. I have this fast fashion blouse again with no name that looks beautiful but I don't have it. I actually wear it way too often because it is 100% stretchy polyester lace and is extremely warm and uncomfortable. It's also a 2010 crop top, so I pinned my camisole to the bottom front and back edges to keep it from riding up past my waist.
I know. I just ruined all the glamor for you, but here we are until I can get my life back together and make some proper Edwardian midriff blouses. The skirt is my Lady Sherlock walking skirt made, of course, by me. In fact, I wear this skirt all the time. especially in the winter as I can stuff layers and layers of coats underneath and stay warm, plus it has huge pockets to carry all the snacks so walking skirts are definitely on my to do more list because these things are real. Very comfortable and really adorable. I need to cover my arms because one of the sleeves on this blouse is unsatisfactory for my 1970s taste, but also because I hate showing my bare arms, so I'm adding this Shaw thing that was kindly gifted to me. a friend of a friend of a family from I don't even know, but it's pretty and probably modern, it's only a few decades old at most, once again I'm wearing my Londoners because they're my favorite and also because there's never any damage.
Repeating good items like literally never, for old time's sake I will be pairing this with my Lady Sherlock olster coat which is again made by me from natural fiber materials from an actual pattern from 1895 as you may have whether or not the manufacturing process is captured. from here on this channel, the coat is so warm and comfortable. In fact, I love it and wore it almost every day last winter, while my black coat was out of commission to reconstruct look number four, it's one of my favorites simply because I feel naturally more comfortable in black than anything else , again, a fast fashion top with no name, they are all the same style, can you tell I literally bought them all at once and this is like all I wear for the moment until I can? make some new ones, this is paired with a skirt I bought second hand, it's 100% silk although I think the lining is polyester which means it's very warm and one of my favorite skirts for winter.
Wearing silk traps heat like nobody's business. in case you need to know, this glorious necklace was purchased by Bernadet, a goth trash around 17 years old, in a literal Halloween store and I'm not going to lie, I still wear it, the cardigan is also fast fashion and the shoes were once again from American Duchess, the Gibson style, the laces of which I replaced with silk ribbons because # aesthetic, these along with my Londoners are made of genuine leather and in fact I will go on a soapbox about this because I'm as much of a vegetarian as the Next one is not an animal eater, but vegan leather right now is literally just plastic, the manufacturing of which is extremely toxic to the environment and produces shoes that last a fraction of the time, so, While one pair of well-made leather shoes will last you a lifetime, you will need dozens of pairs of plastic leather shoes to cover a similar period of time, which, if you think about it, is ultimately more detrimental to life. wild than the leather needed for a single pair of shoes; sadly the magical pineapple leather options you can read about are not commercially viable at this time and I got this from the shoe manufacturers themselves so I know it sucks and you may disagree with me morally on this but I personally I like to think practically about the materials I am willing to use. consuming wool, for example, is much more environmentally friendly than using polywool, which again is literally just plastic fibers dumped into the environment in the water supply and well, there's an article linked below about how wool producers now literally just They are composting the wool.
They have to shear the sheep to keep them healthy because selling them would actually make them less than what it would cost to transport them to the cloth manufacturers and this makes me deeply sad because the boys think of all the Tweed, okay, the final look I have . You today are also one of my favorites, okay, I love all these outfits, the blouse is fast fashion again and the skirt is again one that I made myself. I think, if I'm honest, at this point a skirt has to be really particularly impressive to I bought one as I discovered that they are actually very easy to make.
This is literally just a strip of fabric about 2 yards gathered into a waist size strip of fabric and with a bit of ribbon sewn into the hem of the cardigan is also fast fashion, the shoes are once again American Duchess and these are the birdie style. I'll spell it out for you on the screen since I can't spell that consonant correctly in American and once again I just replaced the ribbon tie. which came with my own red silk bag and of course we are not adequately equipped for our impending hypothetical outing to the library without a good leather satchel.
This is from Barra Bara, which is a small company that I have recently fallen in love with. Theproducts are handmade in a traditional family leather craft workshop in Bolivia and this is probably the highest quality item I have ever owned. I love him so much. By the way, it is not sponsored. None of the brands I have mentioned here in this video were sponsored. sponsored except for the beauty feature, obviously because I said that, so there are my five most worn outfits. I have a couple of dresses that I wear occasionally, but on an average day I'm probably wearing some combination of these like you have.
You've probably already seen it if you spend any time on this channel, so I just wanted to point out sustainable clothing practices because in the past I've gotten several comments on some of my more fast fashion-oriented videos about how well not everyone can afford it. ethically made clothing, etc., but this is what no one throughout history has expected to own the amount of clothing that fast fashion allows us to accumulate today unless you are like Marie Antoinette, Queen Elizabeth, the first person obscenely rich that I have personally. I made the decision to have fewer clothes but spend more money on quality and more time making things myself.
That said, I'm extremely lucky because I already have a very clear idea of what my personal style is like. I know exactly what the color palette is. I'm looking like I want my clothes to fit and feel good, but sometimes you really need to take a little time to experiment a little and figure out what your personal style is and, unfortunately, that means trying on a lot of new clothes, there's no bad about that because The good news is that the amount of clothing that already exists in this world is astonishing. I must also point out that we are not going to wake up tomorrow in fast fashion and fix it ourselves, especially we as consumers, the problem goes far beyond what the individual consumer is capable of having an individual impact on fast fashion has been become such a deeply ingrained part of society that there are physically no options other than buying fast fashion in some circumstances, whether due to lack of awareness or knowledge of the deliberately obscure manufacturing process or the broader route. the problem that fast fashion consumers do not receive living wages and therefore depend on fast fashion to stay clothed, so abolishing cheap clothing is not going to solve the problem, the problem is more fundamental than to the Workers should be paid living wages, no matter what.
What we can all do right now turns out to be the most important consumer-controlled factor in the fight against fast fashion and it also happens to be the most affordable option: buy less, make an effort to mend and preserve the clothes in which you have to remodel it. something new when you feel like buying second-hand items or swapping with friends when you want to buy something new and only committing to investing in new items when you know it's something you'll really need to have for a long time, let's not do that. Give manufacturers a reason to abuse their factory workers with unbearable wages in an effort to produce products you'll want to buy new for cheap. 3 months later, you have that power and it's very impactful and that applies to everything.
Fashion is just the tip. of the iceberg, it's just one particular niche of manufacturing that I've bothered to do in-depth research on. I'm almost certain that the same exploitation of labor, out of sight and out of mind, is happening in the electronics departments of home furnishings in Trinkets, Toys, Gifts and Everything I Create, What We need to learn in this hyperconsumption-oriented industrial age that is getting out of control today is to buy what you need when you need it, but be aware of what you buy and how much. shopping anyway thanks for coming to my TED talk.
I hope this was a little informative and maybe a little inspiring. I have some new items in mind for things I'd like to make or modify, so I'll put them up. In the coming months I'll post a couple more everyday wardrobe sewing videos as I complete those projects as usual. There will be some interesting links and references and more reading materials linked below if you're curious to explore a little further, otherwise maybe just do it. See you for more sewing adventures, oh and I know I've been banging the fast fashion thing for years in this video, but this dress is still important, however gloriously wonderfully eccentric you want and be your weirdest self and wonderful at I always promise life is so much more fun that way.
