My 50 Cal Exploded

May 07, 2021
What's wrong with everyone? My name is Scott and I'm going to tell you about how my 50 cal blew up and almost bit the dust about two weeks ago so I know a lot of you probably want me to explain my injuries and I'm going to do that but I think it's better Let's start from the beginning. I know some of you will try to skip this video. I highly recommend you stay tuned and listen to all of this, but for those who are going to skip, let me. Let's get one thing straight first, this was not the Barrett we tortured and tested and it was a completely freak accident.
my 50 cal exploded
There is nothing I did to have caused this so on April 9, 2021 we came here to shoot a fire hydrant with some slap rounds using my surbu rn50. so we have the serbu rn50 with the heavy 36 inch long barrel and we are going to go ahead and go big or go home and start with this. This is a 50 bmg slap tracer around the slot rounds which tend to go a little to the right. so I aimed a little bit to the left, but this one actually hit where I was aiming, we hit right here and you can see that thing is smoking and then we flew out the back of this thing, everything was going pretty well, we shot. hydrant several times, but the slide bullets were acting a little strange.

More Interesting Facts About,

my 50 cal exploded...

One of the slide bullets hit about a foot and a half low and to the right, I say we hit it with one more bullet, but this time aim for the thickest part of the hydrant and see what happens, the gun was functioning normally as usual . I've been using this gun for a long time and I've never had any problems so before all this happened we took one last shot and it was actually really cool, the bullet was sticking out of the back of the hydrant. This is a 50 bmg silver red tip armor piercing incendiary tracer, so we went over the top of the fire hydrant.

Look at that, oh my gosh, it just stuck out the back. After that, I decided that I was going to take one last shot with a slap bullet and try to hit the thickest point of the fire hydrant, so before I load my last slap bullet, I know that there was no obstruction of the barrel because I literally found the bullet in the fire hydrant, but this last round that I loaded into my rn50 servo was a very, very hot round and I had no idea and there's really no way I ever knew that this round was as hot as I was, so here you can see me.

Pulling out the last casing and now I'm loading the slap bullet, I screw the cap all the way on and the gun closes completely and everything works normally and one thing is something someone can mention is that maybe I didn't screw it up. The cap is on tight, you can clearly see that the cap is screwed all the way on and this gun will not actually close if the cap is not screwed all the way on, so everything was working fine on the gun. What I did not know. It was the slap round that I put in, it was so hot and I had no idea and there's really no way I would have known that these rounds are extremely rare and they're very old, they're like a hundred dollars each.
They are no longer made and there is really no way you can really know what happened to them over time as they were passed from hand to hand. I was under the impression that these were genuine military surplus bullets and they hadn't been tampered with, so now I'll actually show you what happened, it's not graphic, all the graphic stuff happened after the fact and I'll tell you all about it, but I'll show you what happened just so you can see what happened to me that day. So when I pulled the trigger, the gun

exploded

almost immediately, so the first thing that went off was this cap, and this cap is solid steel and it's very, very heavy, if you look here, the threads on this gun were cut completely.
I talked to Mark. surbu and said normal pressures are 55,000 psi and those threads that were cut on this cap blew off like this, we're looking at over 85,000 psi, so the cap flies off, it's a little hard to put them on. on because of my little nose brace, I'll explain, but I have safety glasses and this cap, you can see this little half moon here, this taxi hit me right there, I'm not quite sure which direction it's probably more like this , but it hit me in the face when this cap hit me in the face it broke my orbital bone in three points here here and here it also broke my nose and that's why I have this on.
I had to have facial surgery to repair all of this. Here's the really bad part. although this is lower, there are usually two lugs sticking out here and this is what prevents you from closing the gun when the cap is not fully on, if the cap is fully on it will fit perfectly here with those lugs raised. against him when the cap came off the gun, he came right back cutting off those ears, the lower one is still in the hospital and this is the one we found. It went over my head and into my hat.
He made a hole in it. and he took it out of my head what seems like seven or eight feet now the other one is the one that almost ran out of me the other air hit me right here in the throat he proceeded to lacerate my jugular vein and then put a hole in my right lung in As for my hand, my best guess is that this is what he did in the video, you can see the action almost disappears instantly, I think he came with a downward motion and hit my finger, you have your natural curvature in your index finger, Well, this bone here looked like this. av then my finger looked like a big w so back to the lacerated jugular now I got hit in the throat and I'm not really sure what happened because when this cap hit me in the face I went blind in my right eye instantly Now I have vision coming back and they say my eyes should fully recover, but at that moment I went completely blind on one side, it was like I had been hit and I fell back and landed on all fours.
Many of you are wondering who. He's behind the camera in my videos this is my dad his name is also Scott if he hadn't been here with me that would have been it for me he came running and let me know about my injuries because I was still in a daze. I just got hit in the face with a big metal cap and he let me know very quickly that there was a hole in my neck and that I was losing a lot of blood very quickly. My dad put his thumb in my neck and said. put your thumb there now that I'm aware of what's happening I took my left thumb I took my shirt I wrapped it in my shirt and stuck it as far up my neck as possible I wasn't aware that my jugular was lacerated but I knew this is really bad.
I have a background in law enforcement and I've been trained in injuries, wounds, shootings and things like that, and I know very well that if you get hit in the neck it's not good because you can't turn. To get a neck after plugging the hole, I applied extreme pressure, pinched my head with my hand and ran towards the truck, so the truck was right near us. There was a trailer attached. I had to run ahead. I jumped. Dad jumped in the passenger seat and we took off and this all happened in a matter of seconds. I'd say in less than a minute we were in that van and tailgating into town.
Something I forgot to mention. This top weighs like 25 pounds and you can see in the video that they just throw it off the table. There was so much pressure coming out of the back of this top that he threw it off the table. It's an incredible amount of energy that was thrown into my body, so now we are driving very fast towards the city, I am applying constant pressure to my throat and I am breathing very slowly trying to control my heart rate because the faster your heart rate is, the faster you will bleed while my dad is driving so I thought it would be nice of me to call in the ambulance, my dad didn't agree with this but I wanted to do it myself because I wanted to try and stay awake.
He needed to do something to keep me conscious. If you have an iPhone, there's a nifty little feature here on the side and if you press that button too many times, it will call 9-1-1. It can be a little annoying when you're trying to turn off your alarm in the morning, but when there's a lot of body fluids on your phone and you can't open it, it's very helpful. I got on the phone and we were calling 911 in the city and they were going to send an ambulance to pick us up halfway. There were several times when I thought I was going to faint and I knew it.
If I pass out, it will be because my dad is driving. If I faint, who will continue to apply pressure to my neck to prevent me from bleeding out? At times like this you really need something to focus on and I focused on my kids. I had their faces in my brain and I just focused on them and fought as hard as I could. I stayed conscious the entire time we met the ambulance halfway, they loaded me up and we headed towards the hospital and like I said, I know. that I was in a bad place and I don't know if you know this but if your jugular is completely cut you have 30 seconds I knew that if they hit me in the throat I might not have much time but the closer we got to the hospital the more my confidence grew and I thought Hey, maybe I'll be fine.
When I was in the ambulance, I asked them to cut off my shirt because I was having trouble breathing and I thought maybe I had been hitting my chest. Well, they cut my shirt off, there was nothing there, but when I got to the hospital they did an x-ray and they said my right lung had collapsed because it had filled with blood and that was because this little guy here punctured my lung. Well, from there they had to innovate on me while I was wide awake and I'm telling you, that's not fun, they take this long metal rod with a point and they stick it in your ribcage and it just wasn't fun afterwards. that I felt a little better, I could breathe a little better and then they wanted me to take my thumb off my neck and I was like don't take my thumb off my neck, just finish it with A little bit of tape stayed there but they told me I had to take my thumb out of my neck so they had a bunch of gauze and a bandage and as soon as I took it out they covered my throat when I took my thumb out that's when they saw my finger and said I audibly said oh that's not it well because my finger looked like a big one and then they informed me that they were going to have to fly me to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, very, very good hospital with very, very good doctors, obviously I'm here making this video.
A big thank you to Vanderbilt hospital you guys are the best so now you are about to knock me out and at this moment I realized that this might be the last time I see my wife or see my dad because once I They knock you out, you know that's it, either they're going to heal you or you won't wake up. My wife had arrived, I called her there, I held her hand and we had a few words and then I called my dad. in prayer and after that I remember waking up in Vanderbilt hospital connected to every machine possible.
I'm going to put some photos here, so I did a number so you can see this cut here and this actually goes all the way to the bottom. until here to repair my jugular and my lung they had to open my chest completely they opened me completely as if it were open heart surgery they told me that a guy my size should contain six to eight units of blood and the total of all the blood that I have I lost due to the initial injury and the surgeries that had to give me five units. There was also the possibility that he could have had a stroke to repair your jugular vein.
They have to pinch it. Well, your jugular vein supplies oxygenated blood. your brain, so they can only pinch it for so long, they pinch it, they repair it, and then when they open it up again, all that blood rushes to your brain and there's a chance you could have a stroke. Praise God, I didn't have it. stroke, as well as for my hand and my face, they also had to operate. I have pins in my finger to keep it in place and like I said, they had to repair my orbital bone in three places, as you can see, they cut.
Me here and here and they also cut inside my mouth from here to the front so I could get to all those places, so I had a breathing tube but I still wanted to talk. I wanted to know what had happened. for me and what was going to happen, well my nurse cody, I thank that guy, the best nurse ever brought me a whiteboard so I could write and ask questions. I wanted to talk to my wife, well he would call her for me and then I would write down what he wanted to say and he would tell me on the phone and then I could sit there and talk to my wife.
Also, I really wanted a soft yellow. I craved it so much when I finally let go of it all. I remember sitting in my room and he stuck his head out and said, can you eat and drink? He now he said yes. He handed me a soft yellow. Coolest nerves ever, so for about two days I had tubes coming out of the front of my chest. tube that comes out of my right side and a tube that comes out from behind my collarbone to drain everything around my lungs now to carry this little vacuum bag with me they take them out very quickly I'm recovering extremely quickly they took me out of the trauma in aFor a few days this happened on April 9, which is a Friday.
I went home the following Saturday. There is a lot more to this story when it comes to my injuries and everything I had to do to overcome them. Simply put, it shouldn't be standing. I should be six feet under here and if it weren't for God I wouldn't be talking to you right now, so I know there's a big question everyone's wondering: what's going to happen to Kentucky ballistics? keep making videos and the answer is absolutely, I am not going to stop doing what I love because of a freak accident, there is nothing that can stop me from continuing, I love what I do and I appreciate each and every one of you, I am healing.

I have some videos planned and I think you're going to like them, they're going to be really fun stuff and I also know there's going to be a good part of you that wants to support me while I'm recovering and I really appreciate it, but I don't want to do a gofundme or anything like that. .
If you want to help me, I want you to get something. of that too so we got some new shirts the doctors told me if it wasn't for this thumb I would have died this thumb saved my life and my wife came up with a saint she said just put a thumb on it me too. I thought that was the funniest thing so that's what we're going to do, we've just put a thumbs up on the t-shirts, I think they're awesome and if you want to support me there's a link in the description below, they're available now, take your pick Put on a shirt and support Kentucky Ballistics.
This isn't my normal content and it's definitely not what you expected me to post this week, but this is something I felt like I needed to let you know again that was a complete freak accident and there's no way I would have ever known how hot that one was. round until it was too late, so like I said, I'm recovering very quickly and will get back to it as soon as possible, but in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for some pretty things. interesting videos that I have planned and my update videos before I close this video, I just want to say how much I appreciate each of you, thank you for making what I do possible and I know that most of you will be very supportive. right now and I really appreciate it so don't forget if you want to buy a shirt there's a link in the description below and as always my name is Scott my name is Scott and you'll definitely see me next time.
