super

mario brothers is a game that really needs no introduction mario was the game that came bundled with most early nintendo consoles and was the game that started many people's love for the nes looking at it from a modern point of view

super

mario brothers seems extremely basic, you travel almost exclusively from left to right along a single plane and there are really only two different power-ups, but there is brilliance in that simplicity to understand why super mario brothers was such a big hit that i would change the video game industry and would create a franchise that has generated almost 35 billion dollars you need to understand the state of video games in the early 1980s by the late 1970s atari had built a huge video game business in south america north and released many flagship titles that would pave the way for the future of gaming, but its success was also its ruin.

Lots of companies wanted to cash in on the Atari craze and there were so many new games. Most of these games were either non-original knockoffs of more popular games or were just plain terrible after a few high-profile failures like the rushed atari source port of pacman and the game et, the home video game industry as a whole was considered a flop in North America, and by the end of 1983 most major stores were no longer carrying video games, but while the home market waned, arcades were thriving. home consoles of the time nintendo had a big hit with donkey kong in arcades and in japan the home game industry hadn't collapsed their famicom game system was selling well there and nintendo had their best team led by shigeru miyamoto and takashi tezuka hard at work on new games for the system, the two had collaborated together on devil world, a pac-man style famicom game that never released in north america and now they were working on two games simultaneously, one game focused in the exploration that would become the legend of zelda and an athletic action oriented game that would become super mario. from excitebike but it was actually tezuka's idea to use mario the hero of his hit arcade games donkey kong and mario brothers as the athletic game protagonist tezuka and miyamoto wanted to use a big oversized character this time and so super mario brothers the composer koji kondo also worked on devil world and was brought on board by miyamoto to work on the new projects kondo actually played early prototypes of the game and created music and sound effects that he felt fit the flow of the action the game was a Massive success in Japan, where it was released on both cartridge and disc for the famicom disc system.

secrets

hidden within them today in episode 50 of can you beat video games we will learn all that and more if You're new to the channel, we're taking a deep dive into retro video games and bringing you the pro strategies that casual gamers can use, be sure to subscribe and check out youcanbeatvideo games.com for episode lists news and official you can beat video game merchandise let's get off to a good start super mario brothers the first little goomba in this game has probably claimed the lives of millions of new players so give them some respect as you smash them into oblivion consume this magic mushroom which is what it is actually called in the manual instructions, it will make mario grow into his super form and then if you take damage you will not die, you will just return to form small if you're very careful you can pick this up and still go back to the left to enter this shortcut channel every time you scroll the screen from left to right anything to the left you won't be able to go back you can only forward this game and when you get out you'll be at the end of the level, so it's an easy shortcut to the flagpole, but what if you don't take the shortcut back here?
You can pick up the mushroom that is on top and then we can light a fire flower here no w you only get the fire flower if you hit that box while in your super form but with the fire flower you will be able to press b to shoot fireballs this is known like a 10 coin block though actually you can get more than 10 coins if you hit it fast enough and here we can pick up a star man the star man will make us invincible and there is a fire flower on top but we will run out of invincibility with pretty quickly so we want to hurry up get up and forward without him here we'll get to the end of the level and this is back to the same spot and if you run jump and hit the flag pole high enough you'll get 5000 points now if you don't you do.
If you hit it that high you'll only get 2 000 points that's what this looks like and a little lower in the middle you'll get 800. Lower than that you'll get 400 and at the bottom you'll only get 100 points now it's possible to jump over the flag pole but i'll show you how to do it later in the video level 1-2 is a round low level so we see this animation of mario going into a pipe at the beginning there's a power up in the first box and the rest are coins and if you go over here and pull this goomba out there is a 10 coin block here that you can press remember if you hit it fast enough you can get more than 10 coins now if you are big or fire mario you can break the bricks here and there's actually a shortcut to finish this level that I'll show you here just Break some bricks on the ceiling, start running a little bit and you can jump on the roof and then run almost all the way to the end.
You will come to some platforms that are moving towards the end and there is a fire flower. at the end here you will probably need to use the moving platform to get it so jump from the platform to the fire flower if you want and if you jump from this platform and continue on the roof you will find the first warp zone which can take you all the way to level 4 -1 there's another er warp zone at 4-2 but we're going to play all the levels so let's see what happens if we don't take the shortcut here we're going to collect that 10 coin block again but this time instead of going in the roof we're just going to collect those coins and then we're going to break the blocks on the right side of the formation where we'll find another star man but the problem with this star man is usually that you have to waste a lot of time breaking blocks on the right, but if you start running then hold you can slide under those bricks and save yourself some invincibility time if you need to get this fire flower make sure you save that platform with the coin on it that will make it much easier to jump to that higher level.
There is a 10 coin block here and you want to start running and jumping into this area with the coins. We're going to be able to collect a one up now you want to hit it and then after you hit the block you want to break the next one Place a brick in front of him so he falls down but if you break that brick in front of him first he can actually jump and then you will be chasing, you can take the first tube to get to the lower area here. and there is another 10 coin block for you to find just before the exit pipe.
This will take you right past those pipes here. We'll find those platforms that will take you to the warp zone, but this time we're going through. the exit pipe so we can go back to level 1-3 there is another way to pick up this fire flower you can jump and push yourself to the left side remember you can't go back to the left it's almost like there is a wall there and you can use it as a wall to do a lever jump from those stairs to get to the flag and before we continue here let's talk about the negative world so at the end here in the exit pipe you want to break a couple of blocks. but not the last one on the right and then you want to go to this corner hold and try to j jump back and you're trying to slice your head through that block you don't actually have to hold to do it but that seems to do it a bit easier and once you get through the wall you want to quickly enter the first pipe you don't want to walk too far to the right or you'll end up in the regular warp zone if you've never done it before it may take a few tries to get it just keep trying and you'll get it will get eventually once you're in the negative world you'll notice it's a pretty typical swimming level much like 2-2 or 7-2 but the interesting part is what happens when you get to the bottom so I'm going for try to rush this and get to the end i'm not collecting all the coins here in the negative world though i will collect a lot of them because i can't help it so we're just going to make our way to the end carefully shooting through any of the enemies we see. rs and here is the outlet pipe but instead of reaching the flagpole it actually takes you back to the beginning and this will loop forever like some kind of twisted mario purgatory now if you do the exact same thing on the famicom disc system version of the game you will arrive in a different negative world and this one is strange looking there is a princess toadstool but we cant seem to rescue her is it because she actually drowned and that is her corpse drowned and here it looks like that we find bowser the king of the koopa that appears slightly randomly at the bottom of the screen you cant seem to pick up this question mark box either this area seems to be very similar to 1-3 but its a little different those platforms they certainly aren't the same and the hammer brothers never appeared in a level like this you just want to get to the end here it's very strange to swim through a stage like this when you get to the end you might think what e ok, now it will loop a win infinitely like it does in the north american version but no, it actually goes to minus two world minus two isn't as interesting as the first world minus on the famicom disc system this seems to be the same as world 7-3 I guess it's appropriate to do one of these flying fish levels after a swimming level so that part makes sense in any case you want to go all the way here because as common as whatever this level, the world minus 3 is very strange, the world minus 3 seems to be a combination of an underground level with a castle level, which is very strange, oh, and here isflying blooper enemies you can jump on and kill, you actually get a thousand points for jumping on a blooper but you only get 200 when you kill one with fireballs but you'll never get a chance to jump on top of a blooper anywhere else from the game so this is very unique when you come here to the right you have to make sure you take the lower path. similar job ld 4-4 but if you take the wrong path you will hit a dead end and your only option will be to wait for the time to run out at the end you haven't rescued anyone it says the princess is in another castle and she definitely is but this it actually counts as beating the game and you can choose a world by pressing the b button and the level you choose will actually be a second quest level so this is world three and in the second quest they replaced all the goombas with hairy beetle enemies so you'll notice one of those here to the right is that buzzing beetle so that's kind of a game win but let's go back to the actual game here's world 1-3 there's a weird mechanic in this game in which if you collect all the coins in a dash level 3 then there are 1-3 2-3 3-3 etc. if you collect all the loose coins every time you reach the next world, then for this every time we reach world 2-1 we will be rewarded by being able to find a hidden mushroom that normally wouldn't be there. it would also be there if we use the warp zone to get there or if we die and use the continue code d i haven't mentioned the continue code yet if you run out of lives and end the game every time you start the game again just hold the button a and you'll continue on the first level of the world you were on so if you were on world 3-3 you'll be back at 3-1 so that's a helpful tip here's our first castle level there's a power up here that we can get and you can hang on top to avoid that fire stick the fire sticks can't be killed so you just have to avoid them walk carefully under these and there is a gap between these two fire sticks where they can't hit you so take advantage of that and then you can take a fast run jump to get over that one and there is a gap between these two where you can't get hit also stand carefully between those two and you will notice that the hitbox on those balls was go is a bit smaller than you might think. actually you can barely skim the front and not take damage and here you can really find six hidden coins if you jump on the right places at the end here we will face bowser though this is an imposter bowser and if you shoot him with your fireballs he will turn into a goomba and he will die and we have rescued him a mushroom retainer but our princess is in another castle but what if you are little when you need to fight with bowser?
Well you just want to run under him every time he jumps that's the best way to do it in the 80's we used to say don Don't take the time to sniff his toes just run down as fast as you can . Now here's an interesting trick. If you get to the end as Fire Mario and hit that ax right as you take damage from Bowser. It will still be big, which is weird, normally you would go down to small every time you get hit, but when you get to the next level, if you get a mushroom, which is one here, it will make you small, now this small shape will actually make you small. it allows you to take an extra hit so its interesting as it is and that big form th we were in earlier if we would have taken a hit like that big form we would have died but every time we get a fire flower now we are a little fire mario which is super awesome check out little fire mario here in a swimming level if you want if you were hit by an enemy like little fire mario you will actually go back to your super form but this is that bad super form in the one that if you get hit, you will actually die, but if you get another mushroom, you will grow. in your small form where you can take a hit and still survive and if you get another fire flower you will revert to small fire mario form so as long as you don't die you can carry this form all the way to the end game and you can perform this trick with the ax at the end of any world, the middle block here contains a power up and to the right we are going to find that hidden mushroom that is our reward for collecting each coin in level 1-3 this upper one would not be there if we hadn't collected all those coins or got here using a warp zone or the continuation code there's another power up in the bottom left corner of this matrix all the other question marks here are coins there's going to be a star man we could find in this box but around here we will find something new a bean stalk that will take us to the heaven of coins is hidden in this box here to the right climb up the bean stalk and up here is a fun little trick you can do if you go back to the bean stalk you can climb to the top and look like you're running on top but that's just for fun jump on the platform and try to grab as many coins as you can with each jump that's your best way to get as many coins as here many people might think you can only get two coins at the end but it is possible to get all three if you just run away at the right time at the bottom , we can get to the end but let's say we don't take that bean stalk so we'll go back to where we found the st arman in this part of the level we're going to go to the right and we're going to find a pipe that we can go down there are many more coins in coin heaven so that may be the best way to go but if you go this way there is an extra power up you can find in the left box here try keep the left pipe on the screen so you can use it to climb to the top and pick up the fire flower and be careful those piranha plants won't come out of the pipe if you are standing on top of it though head right there is a block of 10 coins here and after that we are going to find the hardest power up in the game to get it is easy to get if you are little mario and you just want to get a magic mushroom but as big mario you want to start running then jump quickly with a little bit boosting from the bottom square to reveal the fire flower on that top is very hard to do, there is a hidden coin block here that allows you to avoid that springboard and once we hit the flagpole we will be level 2-2 although we already played the negative world world 2-2 is our first official swimming level the first thing i want to point out is if you hold while at the bottom of the screen almost nothing can hit you down there bloopers won't drop to the bottom of the screen another thing you can do is if you hold while you're at the bottom of the screen and then start swimming you actually have a smaller hitbox and your head can go through some enemies, but while you're doing this you won't be able to shoot your fireballs so there's a bit of trade-off there if you're in your super form without the fireballs which may actually be the best way to get through the swimming stage as you'll have nice little hitbox and you won't be able to shoot anyway head to the right if you have fireballs that make it much easier be careful when you go through empty areas at the bottom of the screen they will try to suck you in and that's an instant kill, so you will feel a little tug every time you get close to the bottom, there you can go over that coral and when you hit the pipe on the right it will take you to the stairs that will Take us to the flagpole and world 2-3 world 2-3 has a lot of enemy flying fish so we used to call this a cheap cheap paradise.
You'll want to start running here and moving fast seems to be best. way to avoid the cheap flying jeeps you just want to get under them don't try to jump on top of them sometimes you will hit them at a weird angle and end up taking damage remember if you collect all the coins here in level 2-3 you will find a secret one in the world 3-1 which normally wouldn't be there so try to collect all the coins but move as fast as you can and you can get to the end of this one pretty quickly it's not a very long level go up the stairs and jump onto the fire pole the flag and we will be in world 2-4, world 2-4 is another There is another castle and it is the first appearance of the spirit of lava or the podoboos that jump out of the lava and seem to appear in almost all the mario games that are they happen to me You want to take the lower path here.
There are fewer fire sticks down here and they are much easier to avoid than on the top path, wait for this one to get out of the way and you want to jump on the platforms that move up then quickly reach from the bottom at the bottom top of the wall here that's the easiest way through you can collect some coins and you know that fire means imposter bowser is ahead if you can take him out with your fireballs you'll notice he's actually just a koopa troopa in disguise and we found another fungus. retainer but our princess is in another castle it's time for world 3-1 world 3-1 is our first night level with the black background this is how Miyamoto originally envisioned the whole game to look like I'm glad though that they have chosen it. the blue background.
Instead if you go down the pipe here on the right you will find a bonus room and on the left side if you can break some bricks you may find a hidden power up but you won't be able to get it. if you were just little mario we will grab a couple more coins here on the right but there is nothing hidden in the bricks on the right side and when we get out of the pipe we are going to find our hidden one above that we have to get all the coins in level 2- 3 it's right there and here we can find a star man for some invincibility invincibility is very helpful for our first encounter with the hammer brothers and there's another power in the box on the good if you need it if you're off to a good start , you can avoid that jump board and between the block layers here we can find a hidden beanstalk and go up to the coin sky, the coin sky is a little different here with the night theme. but the concept is the same you want to try to get as many coins as you can with each jump it's just this time there are some of these little cloud platforms that will get in your way and in the end you have to get to the top so which is trying to get to the top now and if you run fast you can go through the gaps on those platforms collect the last three coins which will give us a very nice extra life and when you get out of coin heaven there is actually another 10 coin block here on the left side at the end of In this level we can do a classic trick to get tons of extra lives so stop a koopa troopa on the stairs and you want him to have that gap between his shell and the wall and you're going to jump from the next step. down on the left side of the shell I usually stop while doing this but I don't think it's necessary you just want to keep trying until you get this chain reaction and you'll get a bunch of points and eventually you'll start getting as many one- oops if you fall off your back or If the shell just jumps back up and tries to get it going again and I usually keep doing it until the timer runs out every time the timer runs out you'll notice we'll have a crown and then some sort of symbol which shows how many lives we have because it's too high to show it in numbers there's too much of a good thing here though i recommend doing this cheat only until time runs out once and not coming back here and trying to do it a second time if you really get too many lives each time time is up or the next time the game checks how many lives you have, it will actually give you game over so you can see that here ui it's game over and it will send you back to the title screen so just do it once and don't be too greedy you don't need that many lives to win this game well if you don't take the bean stalk there is another power here to the right of where that beanstalk is you can collect it in the question mark box in the bottom right corner so the re is and this is where that coin heaven let you out so there's the 10 coin block there let's do the extra lives trick this time let's move on to world 3-2 and there's the flag pole in world 3-2 there are plenty of opportunities to kick around a koopa troopa shell and hit a bunch of enemies with him for a ton of points so we can do it here at first you want to run after him but make sure he doesn't hit you and you'll see you just get a ton of points for doing that and if you can actually hit enough enemies with him same shell, eventually you'll get one down here we can hit a 10 coin block and in that box above there's a star man that you can find for invincibility we're actually going to want to run this invincibility because I want to show you a nice spot where we can hit one of those projectiles and Actually get an extra life so there is one right after this area nothing hidden in thatbrick above, so don't worry. hit him but if you can hit this koopa troopa and follow him yeah there's enough enemies in there to get you a pretty nice extra life and that's pretty much the end of the world 3-2 it was easy you'll notice it every time we hit it. to the next level that since we went up that now we have crown zero lives the crown means 10 or more so that's every time you get the crown and don't forget in world 3-3 that if we collect all the coins we'll be able to find an extra one in the world 4-1.
This platform here will start to fall every time you step on it so be careful on that and these scale elevators are very interesting. One side will make the other side go up and if you stay. on it too long it will fall off the bottom but it will give you a lot of points if you start running you can go up there and collect those coins and we will head right this is a very cool trick we can jump over the flagpole here if we set it up perfectly so we're going to use this ladder riser and try to get it up to the highest position and then we're going to start running from this moving platform jump just barely touching that riser and you can pass the flag it's possible though it's very hard to do once you do it. pass the flag again this goes on infinitely and there is no escape you will have to let time run out now here it is in slow motion you want to wait until it passes right through the middle of that cloud and then you want to jump which seems to set the subpixels or something , but you'll need a few more jumps to get it set up in the right position, you also want to start running completely on this bar so get to the end then run to the edge and jumping from the end is very hard to do but this isn't it the only level where you can jump over the flagpole, it's actually possible to do it here in 1-1 too to do this you have to be careful not to. move the screen too far to the right just enough for the turtle to come and when it gets there or in the middle of that bush you want to start running and jump to the end of the platform to the left if you hit it it will respawn at the bottom of the screen and he will start walking to the right you need to follow him don't let him out of the screen and you need to collect this mushroom to get into super shape or for some reason the cheat won't work.
Now I'm going to speed this up, but you have to walk with this guy all the time. Until the end of the level and make sure you don't get hit or you will lose your super form and you won't be able to pass the flag so take it here and you will want to get there. to the top of the stairs and i wait on the left hand side i wait to start my run until the koopa troopa head approaches the first black dot on the mountain and then you run and just jump and if you time it right you will jump off his back and you'll go over the flag so there it is again in slow motion which actually may be easier than the one in 3-3 well yo If you don't go over the flag we can get 5000 points and go through to the world 3-4.
World 3-4 is another castle level filled with booing lava poodles and fire sticks. and like most other castle levels there is only one power up located in the middle of this set of three question mark blocks for these first two sets of fire sticks the bottom one will go clockwise and the top one counter clockwise but they actually reverse it for the third set so be careful watch out for the puduboos coming out of the lava here and once you get through those gaps you will be mostly clean because here's another impostor bowser, hit him quickly with your fireballs and we'll see that. it's actually a fuzzy beetle which is an enemy we haven't encountered in the game yet at this point, world four is lakitu's first appearance and he's a big jerk, you'll want to get to a high platform and stomp on him. take out the thorns as soon as possible the eggs it drops turn into thorns on the ground and obviously you can't jump on them so you can only hit them with your fireballs the lack tube won't stay dead for long so move to the right as fast as you can and on top of these boxes we will find our mushroom one up which is the reward for getting all the coins in level 3-3 we can also use that platform to eliminate lakitu and then we can head to the right there is a pipe here but if we go up to the next pipe we can go in but first we can collect the coins down here we can take a shortcut and if you run a little bit and press down you can slide down and get the coins on the right bottom. going up is a bit more difficult you will need to start running then jump and hold to get below that is kind of hard to do but if you need a fire flower that is one way to get it now if you don't take the pipe and you If you're heading this way, there's a much easier power to grab here, so if you're in need of a Flower fire, I'd recommend sticking to the surface and taking this opportunity to take out Lakitu once more.
The rest of the question mark boxes here are coins, but you can also collect them and then get to the end of the stage. There are some jumps. what you have to do but they are not very difficult and down here we can hit another block of 10 coins and if you don't scroll the screen too far to the right we can jump back on the stairs and get 5000 points for the flag world 4-2 is famous because it contains not one but two different warp zones once you enter the underground there are a few platform jumps you have to do at first the easiest way to do this is just don't run so release the b button and don't you should have trouble doing the precision jumps you need to do at the bottom here you can collect another power up and five bricks from the end you can find a hidden block of ten coins once you get those coins there is a f There are more coins located in the question marks here, but in the three on the right, the middle one contains another power.
If you run fast enough, you don't have to jump onto that platform, but you are looking for a hidden invisible. coin right there to start getting to the warp zone so make sure you remove those two bricks first then press the second coin it activates the bean stalk and then you can press the other two invisible coins you don't want to hit those too soon or it might be hard to hit the one you need to get the beanstalk once you are up here there are some coins you can collect and at the end you will find the warp zone that can take you all the way to world 8 which is world end game so if you want to get through the game quickly that's a quick way to do it now if you don't take this warp zone there is another warp zone for you to find but it's much later in world 4-2, even if we don't climb the beanstalk we could still collect the invisible coins and down here with this koopa troopa we can find a block of 10 coins in the same place on the other side of this tall tube we can find Bring a star man and downstairs we see a buzz beetle enemy that's kind of like a koopa troopa but he moves very fast and you can't kill him with fireballs but once you grab that star man you might just want to go down down this pipe which is a shortcut on the far right here we can find a block of 10 coins to hit you will have to go up and down to try to get the coins below and you can try to curve a jump in or you can also try to jump from the ledge on the far left there's nothing else hidden inside if you don't go down the pipe you can get more out of this star man so just head to the right and there's actually a hidden power in the middle here like this which if you need extra power, you may not want. take that shortcut tube this is where that tube comes out so this is where the two paths converge be careful to quickly jump off this platform and to the far left here you can find another power up don't drop that hairy beetle but if you go through the roof and you head to the right that's where you'll find that second warp zone that will take you to world 5.
Of course we're trying to play through all the levels so if you want to get out of world 4-2 you can just start running and get out running out of that pipe without jumping that's probably the safest way to get to where the exit is and you'll notice we've got six fireworks here let's quickly talk about the fireworks the reason you get them is because of the last digit of its timer every time it hits the flag pole if its a one three or six you will get so many fireworks so this time we should get one and if you have any other number you will get no No firework, that's how they work and each firework is worth 500 points in the world. four three once again we are trying to collect all the coins so we can get a hidden bonus in the 5-1 world there are a lot of these platforms scale at 4-3 so be careful not to let the right side be too high or it might be hard to jump up there you can easily ride that platform high enough to get to the upper platforms here where you can grab some more coins and here's another one of those scale platforms let it go up a bit and start running to jump on it and that's an easy way to make sure it makes it to the other side down here we're almost to the end but this last moving platform will take us to the flagpole and you'll want to jump off it when it's in a high position if you want get 5000 points and that's it we're at 4-4 this is a different type of castle level this is a maze if you go the wrong way and i'm going to take the wrong way i intentionally went to l bottom here but you're supposed to go up to the top and you'll see how those fire sticks disappeared that's because we were supposed to take the upper path and it made a loop because we went the wrong way here we need to take the lower path and it will look like the dead end of the middle or top hat, but it wouldn't really be a dead end, it would actually just loop infinitely, so you'll see what I mean, right there, if you take the bottom path, you won't have any Problem and you'll get directly to Bowser, but it's another impostor and this time it was a stickleback in disguise.
We'll rescue another fungus retainer and we'll be out in the world. 5-1 5-1 is the first appearance of Bullet Bill's enemies, but before we run into any of them, we can jump on this koopa troopa and shoot his shell through a series of goombas to get a ton of points. If you want even more points, you could. do the same thing with that koopa paratroopa but we're going to grab a star man up here and use the invulnerability to get us through the next part of the level we're heading to the right we're going to find the hidden one upstairs that we earned from getting all the coins in world 4-3 and if we play mp on top of this pipe we can enter a bonus room.
We've seen this bonus room layout before with the 10 coin block on the right hand side and you'll need to climb through the ceiling to get the coins in the middle once. you've collected all the coins exit the tube on the right and this isn't really a shortcut it just takes you a few inches out of the tube you came in but this is the end of the world 5-1 and we're at 5-2 this next level was interesting there are two paths to go through it and one of them will take you to an extra swimming section let's take that path first don't go too fast at first there is a bullet launcher right there that might shoot you but you might want to go down to mid level here to get a power up.
Here's a loose hammer brother you have to be very careful with if he doesn't have fireballs so get past him however you can and if you go down this pipe you'll find this very interesting swimming zone it's short but there are a lot of random platforms inside , so yeah this is a bit different from the other swimming levels we've seen, take as many coins as you can and head out the exit pipe and that will get you pretty close. to the end of the level up here we can grab a star man and that will take you to the end now if you don't take the water area we can head over here past the pipe and there's another one of those hammer brothers if you don't have balls fire hitting them from below is one of the best ways to deal with them.
There was an invisible coin block right there and that leads to a bean stalk that will take us to another area of coin paradise. This is a family coin paradise. The area is very similar to the one we saw in level 2-1 remember to try to jump and grab as many coins as you can with each jump and oh you almost lost one you got it and then just run over the edge and collect all three coins and that's it it will take you to the near end of the level and if you're careful you can get a power up and there's also a block of 10 coins down here that you can swipe to grab once you have those coins making your way through these platforms. the power you can get and it's very convenient to be able to shoot that piranha plant but here's another set ofstairs leading to the flagpole and world 5-3 5-3 is almost exactly the same as 1-3 except this time there are bullet bills flying randomly across the screen at all times once again we are trying to collect all the coins so we can get a bonus at level 6-1 make sure you collect these coins here and you'll notice another difference from 1-3 is that the moving platforms are a bit smaller this time there will never be more of one bullet bill on the screen at a time, so once the current one is behind you, you know it's safe. to progress once you get that far you're pretty much at the end just don't screw yourself trying to get those last few points and here we'll find the flag pole and we'll be in world 5-4 which is another repeat level you might think they'd repeat 1-4 but it's really 2-4 but with a lot more fire sticks including an extra large one here at the start of the level wait until it passes to make your move and if you're at the top of this power up box you should be easily able to jump over the extra large fire stick as it passes by we take the lower path in 2-4 but in 5-4 the upper path is a bit easier and we want to do the same as we did before here use these platforms to get on the top of this wall and that will help us avoid the fire stick below.
I don't recommend trying to get those coins under the fire stick. You can see how it's done. The easiest way to fight Bowser here is to stay to the left of the bridge, that way you won't get hit. and thatbootaboo and this time it was a footman in disguise we'll pick up another mushroom retainer and we'll be in world six six one is another night themed level and it's another one that features a footman get him off a high perch then move even though he's there. there is a 10 coin block down here to tempt you remember footman will not stay dead forever head to the right at the bottom of this formation is where we are going to find our hidden we gain by getting all the coins in 5-3 and from this position we should be able to easily remove the missing two again head to the right and cross over here we can find another power up in one of these boxes so if you don't I have a fire flower or magic mushroom that is a good place to resupply here.
We can take a 10-coin block if you're brave, but I certainly don't recommend it, especially not with latitude dropping thorns on you. This is the end. of the level so you don't have to deal with them anymore just head over to the flagpole and we'll be at 6-2 6-2 has tons of pipes and piranha plants and there's also two pads to get through it like 5-2 here's a coin invisible with a block of 10 coins on top of it and every time you finish collecting them you can go to the pipe on the left and enter the first bonus room.
We've certainly seen this bonus room before. I think this is the third time we know what to do. collect the 10 coin block on the right hand side and you could use the ledge on the left if you don't like trying to curve a jump from the middle once you get out of here if you head to the right we can actually find another pipe to go in , but before that we can grab this power and then jump inside. Here's another one of those swimming bonus areas and it's very similar to the one we saw in world 5.
Work your way up and collect as many coins as you can and the outlet tube will be on the right hand side once you get out of the water take a jump to the left so you can run through the bricks at the top of the screen and then there's a star man here but he's a bit short lived if you want to get into another bonus room you've seen this bonus room layout before too and it's one of the trickiest to drive because you have to run and slide to get under there, come on and of course if you want to get that power at the end you want to get a jump start. and hold and it is possible to go through there.
You need to jump back sometimes right when you get below once you emerge from that bonus room which will take you to the end of world 6-2 but I mentioned before that there is a totally different way to beat this one so here after the first bonus room, there was a power up and then we went into the pipe right there, well if you skip that pipe and head to the right there is actually a bean stalk hidden in here. it's tricky to jump so you want to break a faith w bricks and jump to the bricks on the left side and that should take you to coin heaven.
This is another one of those coin-op night skies, but you'll notice that the platform you have to ride on is a bit smaller this time. making this one a bit more difficult try to collect as many coins as you can and remember you have to run across the top at the end oh no i lost the platform ok i think we're good yeah we got them all and later. just jump in and you can grab those last three coins once you get out of coin heaven you are pretty much at the end of the level so it's a much easier way to get through world 6-2 but the other way is a bit a bit more interesting with all those bonus rooms for you to decide whichever way you want to pass either one is good 6-3 was always one of my favorites it has this gray and white motif that made me think maybe the platforms were covered in some kind of snow but the red lining of the clouds always gives this one an ominous feeling that there is a power up you can take if you can carefully navigate those platforms and remember if you get all the coins here, there's an added bonus waiting for you at 7-1, bullet tickets start halfway. level and they won't stop once they start there are a lot of platforms here that will drop from below you so navigate carefully and get to the top so you can easily jump onto the flag pole and with that we are in the world 6-4 6-4 is just a slightly harder version of a four with a few extra fire sticks and some boos at the start, doesn't make it much more challenging, just take your time as you move.
Go through this hallway and walk under each of the fire sticks, there's always some time to wait but if you have an opening you can go through last and here the fire sticks are staggered so it's not too hard to jump between them once. again there are six coins hidden in the air here bu You may not want to play with them because of all the fireballs coming in, one thing that is much more difficult is that impostor Bowser here will throw a stream of hammers at you, so i recommend you stay away from him if you have fireballs and if you are a small mario you just want to get really close so the stream of hammers arcs over your head and every time he jumps run under him as fast as possible possible, that's the best way to beat 6-4 and we are in world 7. there are a lot of bullet bills here in 7-1 world, but there are no bullets, so there will be no excellent adventures or fake journeys. take some momentum and then try to bounce off the left side of the screen like it's a wall and you can use it to climb to the top head to the right shooting any koopa troopas you see with your fireballs if you want do crazy there is a block of 10 coins here right in front of this bullet ticket machine yes that one is dangerous here we will meet the hammer brothers again if you don't have fireballs try to attack them by hitting them from below and that one it's up it's our reward for getting all the coins in world 6 -3 down here we can go into a pipe on the other side we'll come out right near the entrance pipe so head right go through the hammer brothers there's no nothing hidden in the bricks there but there is a power up on this little block in the sky that you can hit with the jump board we need a fire flower that is a good place to grab one and that's the end of the world 7-1 hits the flagpole and we'll be at 7 -2 now i know we have to suspend our disbelief a bit to enjoy the fantasy here and i can accept that mario can jump very far and can fall big distances without getting hurt and he can eat magic mushrooms that make him grow but I also have to accept that he's aquaman, I mean this guy can stay underwater for as long as he wants and never have to breathe that's crazy, he can't just spit magical fireballs that stay completely hot under water, I mean what is it spewing out like lava?
In any case, world 7-2 is almost exactly the same as world 2-2, there may be a few more enemies, but the level design is more or less the same. You can use the same strategies you used before, like going down to the bottom of the screen where almost nothing can hit you or holding down. to make your hitbox smaller when you get to the end you will hit the exit pipe we will find our stairs leading to the flagpole and the world 7-3 7-3 has the same layout as 2-3 so going back to heaven cheap and cheap this time around there are some additional koopa troopa and koopa paratroopa enemies that will make things a bit more difficult and 7-3 is the only place in the whole game where you will come across the floating koopa paratroopa that we are going to see over here you will notice Notice that that one hovers instead of bouncing once again since this is a board level 3 if we collect all the coins there will be a bonus for us to find at level 8-1 so we want to try and do that too and when you get it. to the other side we'll hit the flagpole and head to 7-4 the last two levels were copies of other levels but this is something new it's another maze move carefully through these platforms that drop below you and take the bottom path then middle path then top you need to do it that way or it will start repeating take the top path here and be careful to avoid the fire stick but you need to go down to the bottom then take the middle and the top like we did before but in a different way the programmers had a lot of faith in the player to be able to figure out that it's a very difficult maze if you don't know what you're doing if we take out the impostor bowser at the end here we'll notice this time it's a hammer brother but the next time we fight Bowser, it will be a real problem because world 8 is the final world.
We have 300 seconds to finish the world 8-1, but this is one of the longest levels in the entire game and we don't have time to mess around. all around you you can go over those single space gaps and down here we want to avoid this buzzing beetle because that's where we can find the hidden beetle above which is our reward for getting all the coins in world 7-3 head here to the right and then if you go down this tube to the left you will see a very familiar bonus room like the one on level 1-2 at the end just before the exit tube there is a block of 10 coins so we'll take those coins but you will have to get out quickly and move.
You will need to hold the Run button most of the time when you are at level 8-1 and keep moving to the right. There's an invisible coin block here and there's a 10 coin block on top of it if you really want to get some coins, but you might just want to skip it and move on. e this koopa troopa comes out and the second one almost always falls right into one of the holes so you should be able to get through those gaps with these here we can find a star man and that should help us move faster you need to have a running start to get through that big gap and just keep going to the right while being invincible we have little time right now but we still have enough to finish and in this part here you don't want to be running when you do those jumps which are hard to do because it looks like you need to run fast but you want to release the b button to make that jump to the single space platform in the middle of the gap and that's it, we completed level 8-1 but 8-2 can be even more difficult.
We'll be running into fouls at the start of this one, so watch out for this first koopa paratroopa and the second one should fall into a gap if you wait. long enough but when you get to the top of the stairs make sure you get rid of lakitu before moving forward if we use this jump board we can get a mushroom one up but we have to walk with it to the end where it will fall down and we can pick it up while as we continue to collect this one if you die you will have as many chances as you need to get past the start of this level so its important to know down here there is a power up you may desperately need and here you can hit a 10 coin block here but it's extremely difficult to set up and probably not worth it once you have as many coins as you can head to the right and this may be one of the hardest jumps in the game you want to just hold run run get out of the pipe continue to run to the right and then jump at the end and you'll cross after that you can enter this bonus room and we've certainly seen the layout of this bonus room before, i think this is the roommost common bonus in the game i wonder what the devs liked this bonus room so much they reused it so many times head right and we're almost to the end now try to avoid those bullet tickets there's a little sketchy staircase at the end just try of getting to the top try not to hold the run button every time you jump on small platforms which will make it easier to get to the top but do a good run so you can jump on the flagpole and get those 5 000 points now 8-3 is a bit different than the previous two levels this is like castle walls and there are a lot of hammer brothers to fight here if you don't have fireballs you'll want to attack the hammer brothers from below then make sure de get a power up here if you are a little mario you might have to catch the mushroom in the air as it falls off the side to the right here is another bunch of hammer brothers and a again if you have fireballs you can dispatch them with these but if not you need to get them from below and then you can find the fire. flower on top you want to have fireballs for last here because there are no platforms to hit these hammer brothers from below so they are much harder to deal with if you have to fight them as small or big mario from the best way to fight them is to try to jump on them right after they jump usually you get a chance to hit them and that's it we're at 8-4 the final level of game eight four is a maze of pipes you want to jump from the bottom step at the beginning and head to the right now this is the wrong pipe to enter but for demo purposes only if you go down the wrong pipe it will take you back to the start of the level.
What you want to do is go to this platform and take the first pipe after the lava which is where you go in the first part and you'll know you're in the right place if you see two buzz beetles and then there's a hidden one. coin here that you can jump to and take the pipe that is in the air in this section t here are some cheap cheap ones that fly and you want to take the first pipe after the lava that will take us to a surprise underwater area you will want to swim past some sticks from fire i guess bowser also figured out how to make magic fire that works underwater just like mario can be wary of bloopers as usual nothing can hit you with the bottom of the screen if you are crouching so use it a your favor if need be here's one more hammer bro and one more poodaboo before the final boss here he is he's not really any different than the bowsers we've already fought except this time when you kill him he doesn't turn into anything else and behind him is Princess Toadstool, we've made it, we've beaten Super Mario Brothers, but what if you made it to world 8 4 and you didn't have any? firepower no power ups at this level so if the worst happens and you get here it's little mario don't panic it can be done if you run really hard you can jump all the way across this lava pole, but that can be a risk not worth head down the pipe after the lava head to the right have a good rule of thumb to remember you should always take the pipe right after you see the lava so the first pipe after lava will always be the right one to jump over the lava here and go to the first pipe the swimming section is actually not as hard as little mario because you can hang out at the bottom of the screen if you you need it's not that hard to maneuver when you're little but the hardest part is probably this hammer brother right here this part is very risky like i said you can try to jump on a hammer brother just as they land their own jump and that seems to be the best way to do it here is a battle with hammer bowser you just want to be close to him and run under him every time he jumps and that's it we have won the game as little mario all we can do now is sit , relax and enjoy the cheesy ending, well i guess that's it if you go back to the title screen there is a second quest you can play and you can choose any of the worlds you want to start in but this time it will be a bit more difficult because the goombas have been replaced by buzz beetles and the enemies are generally faster i hope this video was able to help you finally beat the super mario brothers and rescue the princess from the evil koopa tribe if you did make sure Give it a like and be sure to subscribe for more videos because we've done 50 episodes and I can't wait to do 50 more so we'll be back next week with another video game you can watch thank you for looking
