Mr AMG on the New S63! Now The Beast it was meant to be!

Jun 06, 2021
Hey guys welcome back to pick it up before the race and I'm so excited today look at this absolutely beautiful beautiful thing this is the new s63 coupe a facelift and I've been wanting to drive this car ever since we saw it. at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it looks amazing in its facelift now for our international viewers, so they understand and don't get confused why I'm not talking about 4matic. This is the rear wheel drive version, which is the only one available in the UK, so this isn't 4matic, it's not 4matic Plus, it doesn't do any of the smart things the e63 does, but it shares the same engine and we'll talk about that, but first let's talk about this facelift, this design that I'm very excited about and I want to show you because this is something that was really missing from the previous car, so let's start with the most obvious part, which is the front end, so The most obvious part is the Panamericana grill and I know it.

This divides opinion, but I'm all for it because when you have these crazier AMGs, it's very important that this car differentiates itself from the S 560 and it really does, it gives it that predatory face that Mercedes talked about and that you see in the GTR. and I'm also going to show you what this looks like compared to the rest of your family. There are many debates about whether the Panamericana grille that came from the GTR should have been passed on to everything and I am of the opinion. should have and the reason for this is that now all these cars are reaching, I mean the s class has 604 brake horsepower, that is five to five, they are very similar to each other and now there is a shortage in the middle which can fill cars like the 43 s and the 53 to injuries, so these cars should look more extreme, they should look more like the Track Pack flagship car and that's exactly what is happening here, this s class compared to the wash of Cara is more of an AMG than the other one ever was and that grill alone just by looking at the car you get that message right away.

More Interesting Facts About,

mr amg on the new s63 now the beast it was meant to be...

The same with the GLS, you see that it is one of the fastest SUVs in the world and you know that because of the Panamericana grille on the front you know that it is linked in DNA to the GTR, that is why I think it works. I love to hear what you guys think, so obviously they have the Pan America on a grill and they have much larger air intakes on the bottom, a face that is much larger. It's also reminiscent of the GL c63 GTR from the new c63 s coupe, so the whole family comes together nicely, but now you get this aggressive AMG look in an s class and that's what this car is all about. a duality and we're going to keep talking about these two different personalities of this car melding into one incredible package so the front end isn't much different on the side of the car, but you do get the new multi spokes.

AMG alloys like you see on the e63 s and the GL c63 and the AMG GT 4-door and they are available in silver and satin black, now the rear, now I wax lyrical about the m4 csro LED lights and the s63 coupe and The cabin has that too, they're these wafer thin OLEDs and they look absolutely incredible especially when they're animating, it's such a nice part of this car and it's unique to the S-Class coupe and Cabriolet that you won't see. See this on any other general AMG or any other Mercedes, so it's a beautiful part of the rear end.

It also now has a new diffuser that's very reminiscent of what you'd see on more aggressive cars like the A45. or the new c63 s, so again that gives this facelifted s63 a more aggressive look from the rear, which is brilliant. Now a lot of this car is about the interior, it's a lovely place to sit, so let's get in and take a look. It has been changed in the facelift and the technology that they have incorporated into the car, so the first thing that catches your attention when you enter this incredible interior is similar to when you look at the car from the outside, the Panamericana grill hits you here, it is the Volante AMG and it is a truly impressive looking AMG variant.
This new steering wheel that the S-Class introduced looks so steampunk to me and in fact it really reminds me of something you might see on a Pagani, so yes, I am. I love it. I believe this is the all leather version. If it had Dynamic, it would be absolutely perfect. You know I love Dynamic ER and Alcantara, but we have the new touch buttons we've discussed, like in the CLS review. and in case you don't know, I'll do a quick overview of that. You have two touch buttons on the steering wheel, one on the left and one on the right, and it's pretty simple.
The one on the left controls the larger command screen on the Here on the left, the one on the right controls what's directly in front of you and it's a really intuitive system. I found it very safe when driving, you don't have to mess around with the touch panels and buttons here, you absolutely can. It's all about keeping your eyes on the road, which is what it's all about and when I first saw it I thought it would be very complicated to use. They also added things like the driving assistance package, things for autonomous driving, cruise control, distance control, as well as everything. the steering wheel, but you get used to it and it's intuitive, so don't let this scare you.
I mention the screen. We have the twelve point three inch screen of the new E-Class, the S-Class really lacked it. If you sat in an e and sat in the pre-facelift with the bigger and thicker edges, now it's just a nice sheet of glass Clean, the new graphics here are brilliant, so let's start with the seats, the seats are really good, they really hug you. Well, but these in terms of technology, you have dynamic seats that were on two levels, what that means is that when you turn the steering wheel, these parts of the seats rotate with you and it's a pretty strange feeling, but it's cool.
When driving fast, the seats are also fully heated, of course, ventilated, they even have an air scarf, which is an interesting option for a coupe and, just like in the E-class, you now have 64 different colors to choose from. in the ambient lighting and you also have that multicolor ocean blue violet area so all these different color settings inside the car give it a different vibe but one thing that the s class has in terms of lighting and ambiance that the other cars It's not something called energizing comfort, yes, I know that sounds strange. Basically, you have a bunch of different profiles here that I'll show you now, so for example, we have update and what it does is that. it brings together things like air conditioning, ambient lighting, seat massage, seat ventilation to create a certain environment that is pre-set, so for example, we have soda here, which is

meant

to provide a light breeze, cool and refreshing that will take you to the coast, oh my god, I mean this is typical marketing stuff right?, but it works, it gives you a different feeling throughout the car and the atmosphere while driving, this is like Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark, this is some CEO stuff. here that people at that level are going to want to enjoy in a high-end car like this, so there's a lot of storage space in the car, as well as cup holders here, storage space there, as well as a hidden compartment here, a compartment for sunglasses, up there, an extremely large box. here, oh, and also in here, and you have the wireless charging area for smartphones that are compatible.
Now, being an AMG, it has something called AMG track pace and that's specific only to new AMG cars and that's basically, it gives you a There are a lot of career options for someone who tracks the car or does things like drag racing. and you can set it to specific tracks around the world like Hockenheimring, Nurburgring, etc., so if you really want to track a car like this, I doubt anyone will. so that option is available to you even on the s63 which is great now just a general note on the interior. I love the interior of the S Coupe and of course an AMG shape, it's brilliant, but overall when you have this curvy wood flowing around the front of the dash and the way it all blends together and the gaps between the door and the panels are so small it's something you don't see often on cars and it's cool to see this unit between the door and the dash.
Now not much has been changed in the facelift and this is something that I think has hurt the saloon much more than the coupe a. The a coupe is already beautiful, but in my opinion, they didn't do enough to change the saloon. just the steering wheel wasn't enough and in fact even in this car just having new events like those in the Eco pay or the CLS or the AMG GT 4 door would have been nice, this seems quite dated but that's what it is. The only criticism I can give to this interior otherwise it's one of the best places to sit in terms of the rear, let's wait for the seat to move, that's my driving position and I'm 5ft 10.
I've That said, we actually have a lot of headroom here, which is pretty good, it's really comfortable, so I think you can fit two adults or two big kids in here pretty easily. I can see you putting a lot of miles in this car, the seats are much more comfortable than say something like the C coupe a or even the e coupe a, they are very well padded and hug you a lot like the front seats which is great, now one thing before I go out for a drive I need to show you The biggest and most significant change about this particular car is the engine, so this is not the old 5.5 liter that was in the old s 63, this is the new four liter twin turbo v8 as you would have seen on the c63 s. the e63 s which you guys love to follow our videos on that and of course also the AMG GT and GTR so this is the big game changer for this car and this is what we are going to discuss now while you drive , because. does this much better and let's say the S 560 or the predecessor s 63 Cooper, but before we start I want you to see what this car sounds like when it starts, so let me show you what it sounds like when it starts because it's like that.
The key with any AMG in the s class is not to accept that rule, so if we put it in Sport+ now, one difference with this car that is similar to the e class is that if you have the car in comfort, it will give you a start different if you have the car in Sport+ it will give you a different sound and that's the way the software was managed which is good because you get a different character depending on what mode you're in. What I'm going to do is First, show you the comfort and a point to note as well, the new exhaust system inside these cars is again like the c63 or s or the e63, where you actually have an exhaust button here so that the exhaust comes on or activates and you can set it with the valves open or closed depending on your mood so it's good to have here if you want more sound or less so let's start with comfort that's a very refined sound no It's immediately AMG because we're even in comfort mode. the revs sounds more like an S 500 now let me show you Sport Plus now listen to the revs that's an s class that makes that noise that will never get old right ISM hooligan is that even a word let's keep this review started and talk about how good it is is this 4 liter engine in the s class.
It's so good that it's hard not to be a kid while driving this car if we start with comfort first and I'll leave the exhaust off for a while. minute, I know it's blasphemy, especially coming from me, but it's about this idea of duality with the s class especially, but it's also behind all energies. Now, one thing that Eames is very aware of is his customer base that he likes to have. a car that is comfortable like a Mercedes Benz, but when you shift the dynamic select button and press Sport Sport+, it needs to hit the right AMG notes and Eames is very conscious of that fact with its customers and it's a big deal. which I personally had with the previous s63 and I'm talking about the facelift prior to this car, the AMG version just wasn't enough.
People often asked me on Instagram why I don't post it or talk about it much. and that was the reason why, having driven both that and the S 500, I felt that the 500 was the ideal car because it hit similar notes and the engine, the performance was somewhat similar in daily driving and as far as to the comfort of the 500. it was better and of course the price is much less so for me it was a no brainer and I haven't been the biggest fan of the 5.5 liter Biturbo either. That particular engine seemed slow to me, but as you know, I loved the whole thing. liters, so I was very excited to jump into this and see if this has now crossed the barrier into that duality, is it actually a Mercedes and an AMG?
So if we get the first comfort in the way I said I'm driving now we're doing what At 40 miles an hour you hear absolutely nothing from the exhaust if we pick up the pace a little bit it's still completely refined you can't hear the v8 At all, it doesn't feel like you're driving an AMG now in terms of suspension, these are the same roads that cars were always serviced on, so when we have performance cars on these roads, you always see me bumping around. As expected with the AIRMATIC suspension, the s63 is behaving like as3 50 right now.
It behaves like a saloon and it always surprises me when you look at this car. You might not expect it, but it's truly part of the S-Class family when it comes to luxury. It does this: the luxury, the cruising, the chewing. miles and miles and miles in absolute and complete comfort, it does it like absolutely nothing can do, even the worst holes and potholes and everything these roads normally throw at us in our reviews, the car is just like, bring it on, it has absolutely no no problem come to me bro but again i expect that from an s class and we hold the s class to such a high standard.
You know, it calls itself the best luxury car in the world, so it needs to do that and it does. It hits the luxury mark with the suspension and handling. Someone who is used to an S 350 limousine will be very, very at home driving this s 63 coupe. This facelift also benefits from the new 9-speed transmission, so in terms of comfort, that's another good point, It just goes through the gears very smoothly, it's a really good gearbox for luxury driving and also high performance driving. Enough of the boring comfort stuff, at least put the escape button back and you can suddenly see, when the flaps open, that the AMG character is there.
Now, if this sounds similar to what you may have heard in our 63 reviews, it's because this particular engine or this Musical Instrument, as I like to call them, is the same, only in the new 63, it's the four-liter Biturbo , like I said, and to me it's the best complete engine you've ever made. It has the same linear power. curve like the naturally aspirated 6.2 engine that we all love and that is inside my Black Series for example, the power is available immediately, it was built right, there is no sudden boost from the turbos that you would find in other Indian turbo cars, It's just beautiful when When it comes to power application, there are limits and limits to torque.
Now this particular car has 604 brake horsepower, very close to the e63 612 and it also has 900 Newton meters of torque, so you have a lot more torque, the fuel consumption is also a lot better. I tend to use the 4 liter engine and generally around 25 26 27 with mixed driving which is really good for cars that have more than 5600 horsepower. This engine also includes cylinder deactivation in comfort mode. What does that mean? Can it switch from the V8 engine to just four cylinders when the car thinks it's economical to do so and it's done in a way you can't even notice other than seeing these icons on the front?
Of course, this now helps save fuel. when it comes to the other side of the coin, this Jekyll and Hyde scenario and we switch the car to Sport Plus, suddenly we hear that, oh my God, it becomes something completely different, suddenly it's a full AMG and this is what that the pre-facelift doesn't, it doesn't have that soundtrack with character that this car has and I call it a musical instrument because if you know how to play it you're pulling the trigger and the machine gun at will now that you've seen the E63 check out the sound of this engine will be very familiar, this particular one is more related to that car with the e63 and it has such a wonderful soundtrack and the way it plays is the same as the e63 at the lower revs, it doesn't sound as loud . but there is a wonderful vibration from the v8 engine and then when you get past those 4000 rpm it starts screaming and as soon as you let off the accelerator, bang bang bang, it's so addictive and it never feels like the car is underpowered, that's 604 The horsepower is evident despite the weight of the car. 0-60 is said to be 4.2 seconds, as you know the launch is a lot easier and it's AMG now, so if we put it in Sport+ Oh my gosh, that's really quick for such a big coupe.
Just like in my GL c63 when you put the car in Sport Plus, thanks to the Air Matic, it lowers the car's suspension one level, which is something that you can physically see and that definitely helps with the handling of the car so far. The reason the car is so comfortable in comfort mode is that technology that Mercedes calls magic body control and what it is is predicting the structure of the road ahead to provide and predict the best type of suspension setup for when the car reaches that point. This also benefits the car when it comes to high performance driving because then the AIRMATIC suspension becomes more dynamic and you start to turn like when a motorcycle comes into a corner and starts leaning, that's what the S Coupe really does on the road. corners and you feel As a driver, when you have this big car, I mean, it weighs more than two tons, but then you start to feel that the S-Class corners like a motorcycle and it's a very strange feeling, but it helps you keep this car from two tons sliding. in the corners when you don't think, given its size and weight, the steering for such a big car, you just know where the wheels are and it's always so nice to not have that fading feeling, I just can't understand it.
How well does this car drive considering its size, you guys need to try one of these, it will just rearrange your senses. In no way am I saying this is a sports car, it's not

meant

to be, of course it's a luxury grand tourer. But what the previous car lacked in drama, this car has it and then you combine that with the excellent 9 speeds that the magic body controls and suddenly you have a car you can have a lot of fun with. I love how this gearbox just changes what I wanted the new s 560 which is one level below this like the old s 500 to have a new engine and also have a full liter with 463 brake horsepower and 700 Newton meters, but now there is a big gap between that. and this in terms of experience and this is how it should always have been, it wasn't before and it is now, and this is a car that is so well insulated being an S-Class that there is no wind noise, almost no tire noise , almost no noise coming in. the cabin, but you're fed by the v8 noise because there's so much of it and it's such good quality, the upshifts, everything I mean, even stopping, it's so exciting in this car, look at that, being completely honest, despite Since the s65 still exists, this engine makes that car redundant unless you really love the v12, so you want to risk having a micro Kubler engine in your car, which will still be a rare thing even in a v12.
I don't see any reason why you would. Opt for that instead of this and Plus it will also come with the older gearbox so in conclusion I really loved this car especially as an AMD addict. Now this is something I would long for, whereas the previous car was not. It wasn't AMG enough, it didn't have the brutal look, it didn't have the soundtrack to match this one, you barely see it thanks to the Pan-American grille and the other changes, you know it means business, you know it's a thoroughbred AMG and it's just a matter of turning the car on Sport+ and your sensors will recognize that it really is too and then as soon as you start driving and listen to the soundtrack you'll see the way the car can handle despite its size is really a addictive formula in this car it is still practical enough to have it for adults it has a trunk capacity of 400 so you can carry two golf bags in what is apparently quite important for this sector of the market when you have comfort, you can barely listen to the exhaust note and the car just floats like you beat the s class limo, but when you need it to be more like the e 63 it's just a matter of moving the dynamic selector to Sport Plus and the AMG side of the car comes to life and that It's its beauty, the duality that this car was trying to achieve last time and this time it has achieved it.
I guess the most succinct way to conclude it would be either a made-to-order S-Class and a made-to-order e63 s, there's no higher praise, but I can give one car that the best super sedan in the world and the other, possibly the best world's luxury sedan, this two-door coupe. It can fulfill both functions at a very high level and that's what I expect when I hear the words s63 coupe. BMW now has a slightly more direct competitor in the new 8 Series, which appears to be a little more sophisticated than the 6 Series it replaces and of course they were also being the BMW M 8 to rival this car.
A really interesting comparison that I hope to do maybe this time next year is how it will compare to the AMG GT 4-Door in its 63 years. A really interesting head-to-head. I think for the AMG addict this is the ultimate luxury. I really don't give this car package enough to be honest with you. I think I want one basically. I can't praise it higher than That's right guys, thank you so much for watching this video. I hope I have shown you the differences that this phenomenal facelift has brought to the s63. It's so significant that I think it's just divorced from the previous one in every way.
