Most Haunted Castles

Mar 08, 2024
thank you hi my name is Richard Felix and for the last year I have been leading the national ghost tour of Britain visiting some of the

most

haunted

sites in this country, many of those sites of course have been

castles

, they are equally

haunted

. like anywhere else in this country and of course one of the reasons is that they were built as forts, defensive positions to keep people out, so of course the amount of death, pain, anguish and torture that there was within these same walls is, I believe, one of the reasons. that these places are just as haunted as here at Tutbury Castle in Staffordshire because another reason why I think these places are so haunted is because of the charismatic and famous people who visited them and this place especially has so many famous people who have to see with Including the deferers family, Earls of Derby, John of Gaunt, Henry VI, Margaret of Anjou, Charles the First, James the First and of course Mary Queen of Scots.

Another reason I think they are so haunted is because of the amount of stone, because obviously all

castles

or

most

castles are made of stone. I think that the stone especially has certain properties that allow recordings to be made as if they were video tapes and I think that years later, for some strange reason, possibly on the anniversary of that death or if the atmosphere is similar, a replay is shown. That event is seen again by certain talented people, so what we're going to do in this video is take you and show you some of the most haunted castles in Britain, so sit back, dim those lights, give us your full attention and let me. will take you on a tour of some of Britain's most haunted castles.

More Interesting Facts About,

most haunted castles...

This is the castle that stands in Norfolk. This is one of the largest preserved castles in Britain and in 1331 it was in this castle that Queen Elizabeth was imprisoned. She was the wife of the unfortunate King Edward II, who was brutally and horribly murdered at Barclay Castle, she was imprisoned here by her son, King Edward III, for authorizing the murder of her father. She lived here in reasonable comfort, visited by her son, the king, and a grandson, the Black Prince until she grew up, she went mad and they say her ghost still wanders the walls. Many people, visitors and guides, have seen this tormented figure of a woman running through the area of ‚Äč‚Äčthese walls along this corridor screaming and shouting and they say that the sound of her screams sounds like that of a demented old witch, it is about especially of course on the dark and windy nights when the wind howls through these halls and its screams can be heard even louder it's day two of the scottish ghost tour it's been a long road to us We're close to Stonehaven, the winds howl.

I'm getting more tired and more scruffy, but we've just come across what I would say is the epitome of a Scottish castle perched on an outcrop in the sea not far from the grampians, just like that. I've never seen a castle like this and of course I went down and talked to the custodian and guess what it's haunted. There are several ghosts here once again. Mary, Queen of Scots stayed here, as did her son, King James VI of Scotland, and the first. from England there are no reports of Mary pursuing him, curiously in 1685 there were over 150 prisoners of conscience locked up in this castle in a dirty, dark dungeon known to this day as the Whig vault, quite a few of those prisoners died and I.

I was told that there is a rather unpleasant presence in the dungeons, the custodians do not like to go down there alone and another green lady who has been seen, a hazel green mist seen in various parts of the castle and in the tower a ghostly dog. large type of dog deer hound pretty thin scene of the custodian Mr. McGregor went to tell some people to keep their dog under control and the dog just disappeared he has seen it on two or three occasions a German tourist came to complain about the a large dog that was wandering around and then suddenly disappeared a girl of about 13 years old dressed in a hair shirt was seen wandering around people the visitors have approached the custodians to tell them that there was a girl wandering aimlessly it seemed as if she was looking for her parents but then like many of these ghosts she just disappeared, that's exactly what I'm going to do now, it's getting really late, the light seems to be going out and this isn't the kind of place I'd like to go. stay around certainly not in the dark I'm in riffin behind me the luxurious victorian hotel of riffin castle around me the medieval remains of riffen castle you can wander these grounds and these remains while staying at the castle he has been murdered has executions, convulsions and a fantastic ghost, a great lady, so come and join me as I wander these incredible grounds in search of her ghost.
I just explored wandering around. I'm looking for the dungeons I've known for a long time here. I just got Up there I walked down and I walked up here and when I got here without telling a lie, there was an echo of footsteps behind me, um, I'm still hearing every step I took. I could hear a step behind mine, turn to look. Nothing, obviously, no footsteps, no footprints in the leaves or anything, but I really heard something and I don't like it, but it's broad daylight, the sun is shining, it's the end of June, you don't really expect ghostly happenings at this time. time of day, but something really followed me here and that hasn't done me any good because now I'm going down into the dungeons and this dark hole that probably dates back to the year 1282.
God knows how many people have been imprisoned here. I'm going down alone after something happened to me there in daylight, God knows what's going to happen in the dark and of course I like so many castles this goes back to the original foundations laid down around 1271 by King Edward I and the castles. They were built of course to fight the many seizures made on this castle in 1400, it was besieged by Owen Glendower, he laid siege to this castle but held off the siege and burned Riffin to the ground and how many people must have died around here.
I don't know, in 1646 Cromwell and Paul's soldiers besieged the captured again. This is the place where prisoners would be kept. This is where people would be tortured and have a horrible feeling. A cold, wet and very dark feeling. There is something through. here's an amazing arch over here that leads to nowhere oh there's a gap here it goes on it stops here and yes there's a staircase bleeding to who knows where it's been stoned for many years and even up here find your hair yes there's a little one small window arrow sliding back from there, I'm told there's also a completely stoned area where people are boarded up and left to die around here somewhere, I can't tell if it's Hollow, but there's a hole, where does that go?
I wonder if the light from the camera could be pointed and see how far it goes, my God, it goes through the walls, they are very thick, but legend has it that anyone who puts their hand there shakes hands not with the devil, but with the spirits that still remain. here I dare to do it here goes oh this is not nice oh god could you imagine this if something grabs what I had now it's coming out? I don't like that, but uh, what a tunnel, what a fantastic dungeon, of course, the possibilities of The Ghosts Down Here are immense because we are surrounded by stone and I am a great believer that the stone contains recordings of violent deaths, tragic and premature.
Just listen to them echoing down here and I think at certain times maybe when the atmosphere is similar to when the death occurred or maybe it's the anniversary of that death the recording is released from the stone certain people see it again but I don't think it's a ghost I think it's a recording exactly like pressing the play button on your video player you see that event again and I think that happens down here but it's very dark, very humid, quite spooky down here, um things happen to everything the good thing, I can see the light out there, all the good and bad spirits long for the light where I am.
I'm going out into the daylight, it's much better. I have to find a grave, a women's walk, and a drowning well, so I'll go back up to see if I can find them. I'm looking for the gray lady's grave. It's not that often you can find the grave of a ghost. I think I have this has all the right ingredients, stone arches and ivy everywhere and around here, they told me, the grave is just a pile of stones now where she rests well. she doesn't rest that's why we're here she's still wandering around she thinks she's the wife of the second in command of the garrison here in the castle her husband was having an affair with a peasant girl so his wife decided she wouldn't be humiliated any more she attacked the woman with an ax decapitated her the wife was brought to justice returned to the castle and tried and executed for murder and buried here in unconsecrated ground and I think that's why it still haunts this castle the fact that she can't rest for not to be unconsecrated land.
Now it's broad daylight. It's sunny. We can actually get a reading with this meter. Don't know. This is an EMF meter that detects electromagnetic fields or interrupts electromagnetic fields and of course energy. It's everywhere you can't destroy the power, so I think the ghosts are still lurking, but we'll turn it on and see if she's around this morning. I would say it's very unlikely that ghosts generally don't appear before an audience, we won't see anyone. It knows that we have some sound or some change. There is a chance you are here. Well, I know if this would be a head or a foot, but we're certainly getting a reading and I don't know right now.
Look, there's no electricity, there's nothing. there are no wires there are no light switches there are no overhead wires here there is no reason for me to get a reading here in this place other than the fact that she might be nearby who knows i have a horrible feeling that she is waiting for me there has just been A Tremendous commotion, there are peacocks everywhere and suddenly the meter is again picking up something here as if there really is someone, oh God, he is actually standing here, bye and again, of course, there is nothing, We are talking about a medieval castle.
There's no power around here but I'm getting a really good reading here, like there's something next to this Portal. I think she'll be with me for the rest of the morning. I don't like this, oh god yes this is absolutely good. reading I mean it's just that the camera can pick up I don't believe this now look she's gone she has I mean no one will ever know no one will know because the camera I don't think has picked up the um the reading here on this EMF meter but when the camera came towards me no, she came back, she leaves as soon as the camera zooms in there is nothing.
I think we have a camera shy ghost and this is the area where the gray lady walks even to this day. still known as the ladies' walk um I wonder why there are so many gray ladies stories uh I think that's what most people see. I have seen a ghost and, interestingly, what I say about it is that it was clearly grey. a gray Haze. I couldn't tell if mine was actually male or female, but it was grey, so maybe that's why I still had the EMF meter with me when I entered the ladies' walk, it was still active, but oddly it was the only place you'd expect to find it, It doesn't actually seem to be here.
I'm really happy about that because I thought he had joined me and might be following us but he seems to be gone, this is the most amazing place, one of the best places I think I've ever been to, is the Riffin Castle Hotel and here you have all the ingredients for a fantastic haunted weekend. You have an incredible medieval castle that you can walk around. You have a fantastic ghost story tonight, so what better thing to do after dinner as it's getting dark than to wander outside and wander these grounds alone if you dare. I'm in Tintagel, climbing the steps to the top as I feel right now.
We may be creating a new ghost in Cornwall. I guess whether my heart goes on or not, I don't know. Now I am at the top of this magnificent place. We had to make Tintagel if we are making Cornish ghosts. It is the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. It is said that he was conceived here and born here. People say they still see the ghost of that legendary King wandering around this place. It has a strange and creepy feeling. It's a scary place. It is full of myths and legends. It's all Cornwall, but unfortunately this castle built of stone or even slate, as it seems, was built many hundreds of years after the death of King Arthur, built for Richard, Duke of Cornwall, no one knows why he built such an incredible castle in a place so difficult to visit. build as here perhaps he built it because he also knew the legend the legend of his predecessor King Arthur I am standing on the mound this is the highest point in Warwick this was the first part to be fortified in 1068 it was originally a wooden palisadea car with her, so they put some lights in the trunk and she drove here and the rest walked and when the other six got here, she was standing in the back.
I can see it, I can see it. He's saying and everyone looks up and everyone I saw this figure now, if there's a chance it was someone who had them and of course everyone had been walking up and down for a long time, two hours, you know, in the night October and November, so that doesn't seem very likely and everyone I saw, they tried the lights, but the lights were of no use because that kind of range, uh, you weren't getting great illumination, in fact, they tended to think that They had a better view when they were.
I wasn't really trying to use lights, uh, in the lights there just didn't seem to be anything there, so there you go, but that's amazing because I mean, like I say, on frequent occasions, ghosts don't normally appear to the public, well, there's a codicil to this, which is also quite interesting because they were all suitably amazed they came back and decided, uh, what kind of four in the morning they went up again when they went up again, some of them think they could still see it, but some of they couldn't see anything at all and the interesting follow up to this is that one of the people on that tour was actually a reporter and she actually went to tell the newspaper that they had seen a ghost and their editor actually wouldn't do it. let them print so you can apparently say whatever you want about the Queen the Prince of Wales the Prime Minister starts admitting you've seen a ghost and losing credibility what a shame then she wasn't so she had to save some of the group members they thought they had seen and that was the end of the story, we've never had a repeat sighting of that really.
I mean, on the ghost tours that we've done through Dudley over the years, we usually bring two groups a week, put them here, tell them the story, tell them the story, um, and they've never seen anything and no. Has anyone else ever stopped at this point and looked up, seen nothing, absolutely nothing pleasant, that's it, there you go, a very strange story, stop being foreign.
