Morning Weather Update: Aug. 10, 2023

here is today's forecast, it will be perfect for the start of the Iowa State Fair, a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures will rise to the mid to upper 80s, so it will be a relatively warm day, keep that in mind, but it will be dry. I'm asking for a high of 87. Tomorrow there will actually be some thunderstorms before the sun comes up so they will come in mostly overnight and then it will be warm, high of 90 on Friday Saturday will be sunny with a high of 88. We will see partly cloudy skies towards the afternoon and then it is late tonight as storms develop initially, they could be strong or even severe around 11pm. in northwest Iowa, after midnight, they move through our area and then will begin to weaken a bit. I think we'll see an arrival time right through the heart of central Iowa, including along I-30 35, between 1 and 3 a.m. m., then the storms. They will continue to pass to the east and by six in the morning they should be out of our entire viewing area and then we have a fairly calm and warm day left.

We will see Sunshine during the day tomorrow and then after the sun sets tomorrow night, there could be a few more storms that come through, especially north and northeast of the Des Moines area, and some of them could be stronger as well. We'll keep an eye on that, of course, throughout the day, but I think things will be in good shape for the second day of the State Fair. Overnight we will have a chance for some damaging wind gusts with some of the storms that develop. I think the gusts will be around 60, maybe 65 miles per hour in a There are few thunderstorms and there is also a small risk of hail.

Generally speaking, the storms will move quickly, so we will likely see between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch of rain in areas reaching further south and north.
