Feb 18, 2020GW and Jeff on a solo okay hi, do you hear me? Perfect? I'm Frankie Silva, GEICO's Regional Vice President, and we're very happy to be back this year as a Title Sponsor of this spectacular event. to our more than 39,000 associates across the country, welcome to the Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, we have been fortunate to enjoy a great relationship with NASCAR and its fans for nearly two decades, is a team sponsor of germain racing and a supporter of the sport As a Overall, we've seen the good work NASCAR fans are doing off the track in their communities and share their enthusiasm for this great sport.
We are very proud to be a part of this special racing tradition here at Talladega. Today's
race
is going to be another day where anything is possible so please sit back and enjoy this amazing atmosphere and let's go racing thank you very much and check that out right there one of the cool scenes at Talladega and of course our Thoughts and prayers are with Roger Haynes, the normal host for that. Johnny Ray Rogers' iconic big truck currently fighting cancer Roger was there with you, we're thinking of you and of course that's for you, that's hands down one of the coolest scenes in Talladega. This is another cool scene when the drivers get into their car. put on the helmets ricky stenhouse jr. aric almirola and DW said that the drivers are actually calmer and their heart rate is not as high as the people who are watching this
race
, how is that possible? I agree 100% with you. I always would ok ok you just have to calm down not like a lot of trucks we go where you have to think I'm going to drive 500 miles here but this place here if you started off easy it seemed like it was a better day for you . yeah I mean I agree with DW one hundred percent when you're in the car you just see what's going on like a race in front of you and a row behind you you have no idea what's going on everywhere when you see this on tv. getting to see everything that's going on and it's a lot more stressful to see how many laps do you think these guys are going to use to figure out what we have, the unknown, well I think today is different what you're going to get into today and try to figure out what you've got .We haven't seen all 40 cars on the track in one package yet, so all these guys are going to test each other and find out what they've got. They will learn all day from the return. one all the way and that's why you say some of the vets that have been through these changes think they'll make it to the top I agree I just think there's just too many changes and I think these guys will learn faster than the others that we raced at Talladega one year this is our first our favorite race track now it's time to start the engines we're going to the track to do just that racing fans it's time the most famous words in motorsports come out here the order please welcome talladega superspeedway president grant lynch on behalf of our great friends at

version of powerball no other track has produced more lottery winners are 500 mile door to door 200 mile per hour freight trains and it all comes down to last out Martin Truex hit the jackpot with his first short track win at Richmond now hoping to scrape a super-quick win off his ticket Team Penske drivers Keselowski and Logano their numbers are up higher here than anyone in the race but Denny Hamlin is already cashed in the first 2019 Super Speedway races and while Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch were both here it's been a while since they had a winner but you never know when their number after all if it is in it. can win it hey this Talladega baby you so I'm going to start with you talking about the close rate yeah sure one two okay how much of this story do you want? ten ten these are the most successful drivers in the world who have conquered everything in motorsports, but today on this track they need something more, something they rarely rely on luck.Incredible speeds. Without space. Talladega Fox Sports welcomes you to the Geico 500 at the fastest race track in the world at Talladega Alabama about a third of the way between Birmingham and Atlanta is this site a former Air Force pilot training base hill france jr well built flush France
full
of success at Daytona Wanted to expand the footprint of super speed racing. He got Alabama Governor George Wallace to give him this site and the track he built here. He knew that to attract fans it had to be bigger, wider, faster than Daytona and it exceeded everyone's dreams.Join me NASCAR Hall of Famers Darrell Waltrip and Jeff Gordon with a combined 10 wins here at Talladega we're usually talking about the biggest and maybe later today but words on everyone's mouth all weekend they've been closing the rate yes I've raced the 500 coach last night and talked to the drivers crew chiefs even spotters Mike and they said the rate closing is so big that you've got a big burst of speed you're worried they're going to hit the car in front of them and if that comes and I look in the mirror I have my spotter giving me all this information I have two decisions I'm going to make: close the rates such a way and if I block it I'm causing the big problem but if I don't block it maybe it's going to the back so it's going to be quite a challenge for these drivers and observers today.
Larry, what do you have there? this aero package these riders only had 150 minutes of practice on Friday and there's no question the close rate was huge so we have an aero animation with what we call air molecules that will show you why the close rate it's so good when it comes to 2018 to 2019 think about the air behind a car it's like the wake of a boat look at last year at the bottom it's not a very big wake the car that was closing in on the lead car was in the dirty air but look at 2019 that wake is much bigger putting that car behind that car in clean air and that's why the close rate will be so big the close rate may be the second big dory story i think it will the first one you can stop but you can pass that's the question to be answered here today the starting grid will scroll across the bottom of the screen two single car rounds qualifying the top 12 bigs for the bush poll well the strong were the favorites at Daytona they won everything but the 500 let's find out Jeff if his favorite today well one of those favorites might be this guy Brad Keselowski this is Jeff the guys from the Fox Sports booth you got me man , I'm doing pretty well, you know we've never seen a package like this.
It ripped a big hole in the air and this amount of horsepower. I'm just curious, how did you prepare for this race today? Look well, try to understand. I hope the reason is a lot. Cena will probably run a lot lower on the track today than we've been here in the last two years and he'll probably see the inside lane have a lot more strength so I won't see anything to set me up for something as a good way to throw something different at you. so we'll try it. be ready for everything alright thanks for talking to us good luck i'd have a good one jeff thanks for picking me by the way i think we have a real fan buzzing ha ha now the toyotas didn't qualify well on darrell everyone is going to have to go to the back they didn't show their speed at Daytona until it was time to win the race, yeah let's talk to Denny Hamlin and see if he can give us a little bit of information. here at the fox sports booth dude you got me denny it looked like you guys maybe had a little bit of a hard time here friday the cars didn't seem to drive that good you didn't qualify that well you're 23 how do you feel ? today's race you got things figured out so you've worked hard on this whole product to make it work well and we did and we hope you know the ratings are not indicative of how we read it hasn't been in the past although I think you know it's all going to be situational it'll make it to the checkered flag somehow ok mate you won the Daytona 500 in similar conditions so good luck now each of the three manufacturers competing has their own agenda for this 500 mile and our three pit crews have such stories jamie little good mike chevrolet hasn't won a race since october of last year they want to finish that today and in doing so they need to work together someone on austin dillon's team told me this morning that the road the Chevy teams have worked together this weekend he has not seen that in 10 years the executives of the owners of the Chevrolet driver teams have been together to talk strategy and prevent the other manufacturers from winning today they have 18 cars in the field that's more than anyone else his plan to keep those Chevys together through and through Matt Yocum Jamie last fall stewart-haas racing worked the team's roadmap to perfection three months ago on the morning of the 500 from Daytona the four drivers met with Edsel Ford to further define the rules of engagement several four drivers told me this morning now with the rules of the race track here at Talladega all of that is outside the window they know they have friends and Ford but most likely they have to be the Lone Ranger Vince well no question strength is in numbers and if you have enough numbers you can affect the strategy of others around you so how do you affect that to the Toyotas?
Only seven of them are less than half the fleet of the other two manufacturers. Well, the Toyota team principals told me today. which will really emphasize the need to work in unison not only on the race track, but also when arriving on pit road and exiting pit road. All Gibbs cars go to the back for unapproved adjustments affecting airflow to the cabin so at least Gibbs cars start the race together Larry McReynolds yeah close let's take a look at our analysis of race, we will go to one hundred eighty-eight. laps 500 miles our stages will be fifty-five fifty-five and seventy-eight to the checkered flag pit speed 55 mph there were 17 pit stop speeding tickets last year the 36 to 40 lap fuel window in the back of the field is going to be very busy there because Vince just mentioned Joe Gibbs drivers joining Ryan Newman Ricky Stenhouse jr. as well as Cody ware, Reed Sorenson and Micah, great story.
Brendan Gaughan is back in that 62 car, but Tyler Riddick qualified that yesterday because Brendan returned to Las Vegas for his son's First Communion. Very cool family first. Larry, that's that 4,000 foot backstretch. here at Talladega, which is one of many great facts about the world's largest superspeedway built by Bill France, it cost six million dollars to build in 1969, 33 degrees of bank in the turns, two degrees more than Daytona, bill Elliott holds the all-time NASCAR qualifying record here, you I can see that car at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn and there's a $50 million infield redevelopment project coming up soon and where are those tents that's where the fans will be right in the middle of the Cup Series garage area what a beautiful day started out sunny but now lots of clouds ambient temp 76 track temp 105 as the new Forge Edge St with 330 horsepower does the turn onto pit road and remember the start/finish line is not in the middle of the test speeds at Daytona, it's the road down here to turn one you have a lot to think about between the middle of the trioval and the start/finish line and mic you have to be willing to play nice with others you are going to have to work with other teams whether its manufacturer or not and folks let me tell you my heart is pumping the flag is in the air Let's go running guys and please be nice to each other. that's clear hah if you want to go your half you want to make it all clear you can already see that alliance is starting to form those Fords in the outside lane all those Chevys lined up in the inside lane well it was the front row chevy ford austin dillon choosing interior and the fords quickly formed up high behind aric almirola still picking up speed as they get to the test book and mike i think too the car jumps to the front if i were the rest from the competition I'd be a little worried about that those greats wanted the best working back and forth whichever lane has the
energy
whichever lane has the momentum that's the lane he comes in you know that in the football is always talk about watching tapes and I have a feeling a guy like Brad Keselowski I bet he watched a lot of tapes going back maybe even as far as the year 2000 when we had a roof rail on top of these cars and as much drag or almost as much drag to learn what I could about this race today and there and you hit the net hit thenail Jeff there's a lot to learn in these early stages of this race with this aero package what's it going to do to my car and how am I going to handle it Martin Truex way up high bringing Stenhouse Suarez and DiBenedetto with him and remember March 19 Rex jr. had to go to the back was one of those cars for a non-improved fit has made up a lot of ground and so is his teammate there Erik Jones on the inside Carroll looked at teams because of their cars causing them to have to start in the back yes they have a hose that is on the right hand side window that blows air out i think probably to the drivers in the footwell or the driver and they were squeezing the hose shut so air couldn't get in on the car, so it's a minor thing, but NASCAR didn't like that it didn't allow those adjustments after qualifying and after inspection. There are two Gibbs. the cars are moving to the front pretty obvious here you have Jimmie Johnson Kyle Busch a couple of others that are back in the back I think they are playing a little bit of a different strategy I think they know there could be a big one today and they could try to play it safe to go back further they know they can save some fuel there as well and when you have good cars there with you as long as you keep the lead group in sight pretty close to InTouch you're not going to lose as much and you have to someone to help you get there if needed.
It was always good to have three or four fast cars in the back if you were alone here. comes the absent Steven on the outside and brings a fast train with him well, he has one of the best pushers and one of the most aggressive drafters right behind him and Ricky Stenhouse jr. Joey Logano came up to block if he makes maps are part of the hood now those things are flapping all over the place I talked to a bunch of guys they actually increased the size of the bolts that hold those flaps because they saw it jumping so a lot I think some of these teams are going to have a hard time keeping some body panels on these cars today and I'm not talking about Rex yeah I know there's that turbulence around these cars amazing in the middle Ryan Blaney trying to bring Michael McDowell along on those cars Front row guys have shown a lot of speed their Fords are Blaney in 12 but Dowell in 34 and his new teammate this year Matt Tifft in 36 trying to make something happen just remember Mike when you're on top like we see all 22 cars rolling you're running in a much bigger circle so the bottom will get ahead of you Wow you saw there and this is what I think you have to worry about you saw Joey Logano move up to block on March 19 Rex junior made a bit of contact because of that close rate and Ricky Stenhouse jr. shot down the middle to take advantage of it Stenhouse with a run hits the bumper Logano and you see how he shakes that's what it feels like in the car that car this is not a smooth ride dan just shut the door on martin truex yeah last time that we say that Fitz Ricky Stenhouse jr.
Six qualifiers that when I asked his crew chief, Brian Patty, if he was concerned about giving up all that track position and having to go to the back for those unapproved adjustments, he said very simply if you can't go back to the front and 55 laps. he's got bigger issues I'm not worried at all and we see exactly why but he lost his momentum here trying to hold back the tricks and look where he's headed yeah and look that's what I think these guys are going to learn this first part of this. the run is how big a run is going to come from behind and what do I need to block he moved up to block that 19 when he probably should have stayed back during the shot in that mid lane we just thought of Truex he was almost in front of the outside line almost stopped in front of the inside line there and look where it is now i mean the outside line just doesn't seem to go anywhere when that bottom stays hot and remember the close rate is so that means that you have to make decisions very fast, it has to be instinctive or it has to be thought, but when it happens that fast, there's not much to think about you, just see Bubba Wallace, a Daytona 500 racer right behind Michael McDowell and now he's coming back to the top side two at a time and Mike, you have to trust, you have to be very confident and that's hard for a driver, you have to trust the spotter when he says sure, go down, you have to go down good. so you can't doubt you have to trust the guy behind you you have to trust so many things around you to stay out of trouble career on his birthday since jeff bodean in north wilkesboro 1986 omg i was there did you get cake?
They were working on the triangle those days the boat in the triangle I see a little bit of debris on the nose of both cars Brad Keselowski I think it's out of the way where it won't affect the cooling too much so keep an eye on it when we saw Jeff yesterday, the cars in front were the ones that picked up the trash, they got to the trash, they picked it up, they had a yesterday there were a lot of problems with that, yeah, but look, Otto has something for Jamie. I spoke to Joey Logano this morning about what he needs from his watcher.
TJ majors. He said that he can't talk enough. I want him to talk all the time and I don't. i want him to give me suggestions i want him to be deliberate when he tells me something i'm going to do and after that move you saw while he was leading this pack it reminded TJ i need you to be deliberate in your calls well i don't i don't think there's a better spotter out there , remember he was Dale's longtime junior spotter Ryan Blaney takes the lead Penske won six of the last nine here Geico 500 on Fox is sponsored by NASCAR Official Partner Geico and by credit a bank The NASCAR Official Credit Card perfect for race fans warn Talladega lots of damage for multiple cars Bubba Wallace coming down the front directly past the start/finish line drawing shots at Ryan Blaney's 12 look to the right of your screen and see what he it happens alright you see he connects to the right rear bumper Blaney and he tries to jump past it but they were still connected and made contact Blaney was actually very lucky to get out the way he did but unfortunately he turned Bubba sideways, Michael McDowell is tucked in and behind them Clint Bowyer Kevin Harvick and more you can see that hood is flat which means you're in that airbag that you can stay attached to that rear bumper of the car in front of you that I just move. also though he moved to the left and when you hit that car on the left side it's fair and also when he turned to the right these cars when you turn to the right they charge on the left rear and just flipped him over to the left sides. to the right you'll see a lot of that that's why these cars aren't as stable as they used to be with Daniel Suarez Z Wallace in the middle pushing Blaney just ahead of Hamlin's 11 close to calling out Joey Logano looking back I Is I mean from that angle you almost think we're going Ryan Blaney was trying to block that race but he looked at me like we had no choice he was just grabbing the wheel they left Bubba jumped they just touched a little bit or someone hooked 14th Clint Boyer and that fired it straight at his teammate Kevin Harvick and did a lot of damage to his car.
They had high hopes for today. We're running in the high lane and we got stuck and now. that looks like part of Jimmie Johnson's semi-attached McDowell's number 34 car TN cars picked up a piece of rubble out there look oh that's low they go to rubble whose divider is that probably makes it not Matt Tifft his is intact under him a little bit of his teammate which has a little more front downforce and I think he would like to wow the car die and you know go back to Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney those two are best friends I want I mean, these guys hang out together. go on vacation together but when you go out to the racetrack there are no friends I mean you have to go and race each other they were the best ok Larry McReynolds now NASCAR requires a certain number of parts to be in these cars and there's only so much you can replace what are the options for this team well most importantly Mike is the clock that's fighting them it's a six minute damage repair clause clock and they have to be under six minutes and return to minimum speed when we return. racing but sort of stuff like rear bumper cover is required deck covers are required something like that on the nose itself is not necessarily required but there's no way you'd want to race here at Talladega without the nose but the interesting thing this time out of this caution mike remember my fuel window was about 36 to 40 laps we are getting very close to the threshold of being able to pit now and get to the end of stage one in 55 laps ok larry pit road has yet to be opened during this first caution of the day, Denny Hamlin comes in and out with a nice repair to the front right of his car and I'm looking at what this part is.
I don't think it's a divider. I think it's actually the connecting tray. I don't know what it is to the splitter that goes under the radiator, but it's stuck, it's big, it's not a detour and now Matt Tifft was behind his partner on 34 McDowell, let's see what happens once again here, let's not forget that guy's nose Camaro is a little spiky there and we've seen where it makes some guys drift yeah that's Matt Tiff's car under the damage repair policy it looks like they'll be able to send it back to minimum speed then he would be able to do more repairs though kevin harvick with some serious damage to his number four checkered flannel and there's the bush boy you should be worried about maybe he can help effect the repairs there i was told two things you never wear at Talladega are flannel and times Oh take this tie Kevin Harvick really pulled up yeah he got a good offer.
I heard that outside, very loud, and Kevin finished. Clint Boyer hit him very hard on the left side. I have to believe they are falling short. on time here on this damaged vehicle policy fits open pit lanes Erik Jones whistling from 3rd he will stop a little short in his pit box so he won't get blocked by the 8th stopping in front of him Jones just a gas Matt and looking at the fuel only for several different cars in my area actually Kyle Busch's 18 his game plan was Larry Mac moves Jamie Joey Logano only on the 22 fuel but they looked at the notes he said the car security spat. they stuffed some debris up the nose they looked it looks ok man you're having a bad day when this pace car throws something else looking at alex bowman picking up 11 places we'll check if he stopped at his pit stall there boyar back left side looked good oh yeah got a lot of damage on that car first warning of the day 14 laps in the Talladega bubble Wallis's Richard Petty Motorsports Chevy being dragged back into the garage area after cause a pileup on lap 11, let's put ourselves under this first caution speeding penalties exiting the pit chase Elliott Ryan Blaney Kyle Busch will all go to the uncontrolled rear wheel by Ryan Preece and Jeffrey Earnhardt will go to the back rear Alex Bowman did mrs.
Pity came the next lap along with other cars that didn't stop the first time, so we passed Joey Logano and Daniel Suarez to restart on the front row and the other acquaintance in the pit road chase. Elliott took a little damage from falling. off the cat line right 17 line with you in line with the 42 so everybody in line all in longe wrist in 17 pushing you 17 pushing three edit wide for turn three some trick said outside didn't work out so hot imma drop her in the bottom looking a little better to me well one thing is for sure after that incident we just saw him Bubba Wallace Ryan Blaney he hasn't slowed anyone down from collecting blocks and trying to stop that momentum from behind. here's Brad Keselowski talking about pushing other cars pretty hard, uh, yes sir, it seemed like the Biddle pulled away a bit, but what's the top horn backup?
I don't know if there's something to that or if people just push it in the middle and we're while we're talking about pushing a minute there's a big difference between the front bumpers on these race cars, the Ford Mustang has a very flat. Front bumper to Toyota even though it has these dots on the outer edges in the middle of its pretty flat but that Chevy Camaro has a distinct character line that makes the nose very pointy aric almirola back front here is Vince Bowen a victim of that accident was Michael McDowell, the team had been so upbeat going into the day, what did you see?
Mike, yeah, not many of you know right off the bat to be that pushy and you know, unfortunately for the journey of love, stop it, we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I didn't really see what happened, I just saw the 43 approaching the runway and that waseverything so yeah just disappointed we've had such good speed and such a good super speedway program and really hopeful for today and it had to be out so soon it's very disappointing but you know it's out of control it's part of super speed racing. Mike McDowell hopes to continue his top-five finish in the Daytona 500.
Tyko goes through the right side. The outside line looks like a 22. the one they are from chevrolet looks like the shimmy guys might be trying to bunch up on the outside and push themselves up a bit near the front see if that works for them its a pretty good movie i saw joey logano type a through the middle three and four he was in that bot lane and he shot into the mid lane and what he did was he forced the guys in that second lane into the third lane but so far that third lane seems to have the most momentum and organization of those cars in those Chevy's Vince has caught up with Bubba Wallace Bubba out of the recorded spotlight dropped the front bumper versus the front bumper of his Chevrolet versus the rear of the one that had any significance in the incident or was too much foam nono it was just the number of races we're getting the strength is all I was trying to do was just make an audience mess that I didn't want to want until 12 is the last one The car went up a lot out there and had a great run with him when the 22 stopped he checked a little bit and I went to go to the bottom where I was safe and I don't know if I crossed his bumper or whatever but he moved it down and pushed me even lower than I wanted go so i went back up just to stay off the platform and it just downloaded so unfortunate but try not to recommend my friend ryan and it cost our day and some other so excuse me but we should have screwed up a couple of apps for that, 11 had a great run on us and let me get in the middle so I appreciate that but we are fast. to ride and not wreck someone and the main star reckless elf Mike two cars out of the race at the start now we've been talking about the front end styling of these cars trying to mirror their street counterparts and to the right look at that Camaro came to a point just below the bowtie and I think that will be a factor in this race later on, young man, because you will have to be very aggressive pushing in the later stages of this race, I mean they didn't touch much. and I don't know if it would have mattered if I had a Ford front bumper or a Toyota front bumper in that situation, no, but I think later in this race it will be a factor because you're going to have to be really aggressive and I think that's when some of these Chevy guys think they're at a bit of a disadvantage with that pointy nose that just slid off the 12's rear bumper I mean it barely touched it that's all it takes when you're running 200 miles an hour for proof of that you can win this race from anywhere you start or restart Kyle Busch was one of those drivers who got busted for speeding and there's the candy man up to seventh from the restart to actually have a bit of a break here with these front semi-autos say Jeff in something that looks like this front group here mostly forward there by an aric Almirola on Brad Keselowski they're driving a little bit of a gap between that second group back to Vince another casualty of that incident involving Bubba Wallace was Kevin Harvick, what did you see Kevin and what could you do? back there and it looked pretty bland so I decided to go back to the front and drove back there you know pretty easy and then I don't know what happened they all crashed and I slowed down and someone hit me in the door and I hit the wall thanks Kevin Mike I did it simple I hit somebody don't hit the wall there's not much more to say well he just saw right there Daniel Suarez's 41 got a great run we talked about that close rate got a great run on Kyle Busch jumped outside and had Ryan Blaney and a couple others tag along and made up a bunch of places they won know those four words are strong I'm such a strong roll Keselowski strong Truex is hanging third sin House ahead strong Jones Toyota strong Chevrolet qualified on pole Austin Dillon but right now Ford has seven of the top ten positions Toyota the other three yeah the best Chevrolet right now is Larson on 12th lap work 25 at Talladega you Yeah right front tire got hit a piece of debris or something and the right front tire falls off the

laps aric almirola and brad keselowski leading in ford mustang here are the facts from the strong performance track of today seven straight wins at Talladega four for Joey Logano who you're watching owns three of them Brad Keselowski to Ricky Stenhouse and our race leader aric almirola the winner here last fall when he led just the last lap of this race he is their leader in He always liked this moment.I always like to talk about the sum of all parts. We look at Aric Amirola, a great driver, but that's a great team and in Keselowski that's a great team, from the spotter to the crew chief, the driver and the car they drive. They have it all. instead Jimmie Johnson with a lot of damage to the right side while we were out hit the wall in turn three here's a look at it said debris flies there and the result yeah the right front tire hit some debris or something and the tire right forward Mike, I know you won't believe this, but 17 years ago today since he got his first Auto Club win, 17 years ago, seven championships later and a Boston Marathon two weeks ago, Johnson wanted right over Iran in just over three hours and all those wins he's got but I think 83 of them man he's had a rough time at these big super circuits lately in the last two years they haven't been kind to Mr Johnson leading that outside lane whoa Joey Logano slides uphill Jamie Joey Logano in the 22 bit frustrated with fellow Ford driver this was on his radio about Daniel Suarez's 41 got a beep listen you got to pick your fights you can't get mad or mad every time something it comes out the way you wanted it's too soon we've only done 30 laps you can't be mad at someone now it's a long way to go yeah but what that tells me is they had a meeting they had a group meeting with ford and they talked about working together so when one of those Fords is behind you, you expect it to work with you even though it's not necessarily a teammate and I've seen this happen before where Suarez had some big races and he felt like he needed to take that race to the outside lane and hung out in the 22 from Logano and a couple others, yeah, well I've been right, you've been running.
I have been racing for a long time, there are no perfect scenarios, you present everything and have a perfect plan, but it is difficult to execute when you get to the race track. Logano has his teammate Ryan Blaney right behind him. Matt might remember the Daytona 500 two years ago, Blaney spent much of the race up front leading Josh Williams, one spotter told me not to expect that today the biggest challenge is trying to control the lane, you can't do it, no you can be the leader and control the lanes like you could in the past we just saw there the 42 just one they left a 12 car hanging out to dry and this is exactly what I talked about in our opening is if you don't block that , run this. is the result you can go all the way back that's about ten miles an hour slower than what you lose when you've got that big spoiler catching all that air and Jeff, he was just running, he was up there trying to fight for the lead running second and Watch him now and he won't go with you if you lose the draft.
A single car going around here is four seconds per lap slower than those cars on legal ground. what happened to Blaney, you will see that he is going in the back, here they blame you on the outside, you see that he is behind his teammate and you saw the Larson, he knew he had a Kurt Busch Chevrolet behind him, he knew a little if he went inland he was going to have someone to go with him it's just unbelievable how fast you think something happened your car you'll swear the Enzi lay on you well it's like they put a parachute on that 12 and actually like we're going three wide for leader Kyle Larson trying to put his Chevrolet up front that's pretty much what NASCAR did for this race they extended the rear bumper a couple of inches the rear wing now nine inches tall plus a stretcher lip of an inch in at the top is like dragging a parachute because you meet two teammates right there two 42 cars that one and that one was fast in practice it wasn't surprising to see them there and we see Logano countering I don't know if those Chevy can push but they really want speed running up front Kyle Larson, who has had a bugless race all year or a bugless race, let's just say no bugs, and Kurt Busch, who in the first five races at Chevrolet it's only in the top five. in number one you know what I see Mike and it's been a while since I've seen this you can be leading and get pushed off the line you can drop back like we saw Logano but they have enough power and then some throttle. the answer that you can get back to the front, you don't just get out and about but you can work your way back to the front and that's the big difference from this year's engine setup 550 horsepower at Talladega that's about a hundred horsepower more for pull up to pass power these drivers had last year well kind of broke that outside lane with this inside lane it started to work and I think they did a little bit of push there to get a big run to put Amaral in the front here's another look, you know, the nineteen back for the two car bombers with no boom-boom and there they go just a little bit of boost and look what it does and how well those bumpers line up and you know what I like about Truex learned his lesson he got up on that outside he lost a lot of places he dropped the grip again and he's in third place and you're not going to move him 35 full laps aric Almirola and Brad Keselowski in front we had a caution flag with four cars out of the race as a result is here and available today at your local Chevy dealer the all-new Silverado the strongest and most advanced Silverado ever is here and available today at your local Chevy dealer the new Silverado the strongest and most advanced Silverado ever 16 laps to go before the first stage Aric Almirola in front of Brad Keselowski Martin Truex David Ragan and Kyle Busch are not going to break they were working on Matt Tiff's car that is now out of the race you saw the saw trying to remove a big sheet of front bumper cover, looks like it came off Michael McDowell, his teammates' car, goes right into the front of Tift's car and that's put them out of the race, Larry, what's up? there's ok what it is and we'll use our Ford Performance cutaway to show you exactly what's stuck in the front of that car 36 Matt if you came out of Michael McDowell's 34 car it's the radiator pan it's an extension of the front splitter under the car the yellow part is the front splitter but this is the radiator pan here and it's huge it's 37 inches wide and 28 inches deep and what it does in conjunction with that front splitter creates a ton of front downforce but it's gigantic and that's what you saw stuck in the nose of Matt Tiff's car and again we've seen the violence in the way the cars shake and the way they move and you get some air in there and that frying pan is so Big one that just sucks you right next to the car in that crash, well the reason they need to have such big pans with that big rear wing if you want the car to balance properly, you have to create more downforce front and rear. chase Elliott works with a group Chevrolet's Mountain Dew and Little Caesars are teaming up today to give away two liters of any Pepsi product when you buy any pizza using the Little Caesars app 14 to move to stage 1 Larry talked about the fuel window and the fuel is a concern on two way radios here is eric jones team we can see gentleman getting pinned better how about his teammate just ahead? he finished off jeff you were on the spot tony it hurts from 3 his spotter told me this morning the races will happen so fast the information he gives kyle it's up to him he can't hesitate when he makes a move how about the ganassi cars that are back ? in 11th and 12th places, the leading Chevrolet is Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch Jimmie and Kurt Busch's was telling the team about him when he lowered the green flag.
I'm about 75% low throttle above 20 to go at this stage. They told him I need you to back off a bit more don't push that 42 too hard and then alerted them that the other Chevys are in the same boat sohold on to get to the end and we see them now that they were there. fighting for the lead a little while ago and now they're pedaling smoothly I mean trying to get to the break yeah those teams in these pits can see live data they could see how much throttle they're using to calculate that fuel mileage let's see in the forge how about penske team man mike right before he got kicked off that highline?
Ryan Blaney told his team that I can't save any fuel. I'm completely open to Almirola Keselowski Ford leading the 11th fort going into stage 1 and Talladega you'll see it all as we go Fox side by side welcome back to Geico 500 at Fox aric almirola for quick pit stop after leading 27 laps he'll have to do a drive-through penalty at pit road speed 55 mph while the rest of the field roars for 200 he'll go for a lap he's definitely going to laugh it came right with Brad Keselowski now Moreau loves me and the white car. I'm not sure how much these drivers had a chance to practice getting into pit road, but you can see right there that he's doing everything he can to avoid locking up those tires.
Third speeding penalty of the season for Almirola. on that lap we have Martin Truex the leader our most recent short track winner at Richmond here comes ty Dillon on the outside and his Chevrolet second place David Ragan second generation driver from Unadilla Georgia has a win here has a win at Daytona is racing for Shriners Hospital and he's the last Bob Jenkins in the front row of race cars of three of them that started he's the last one to run David has killed Goliath a couple of times on super tracks like this and I'm not so sure that you had a teammate to help you. about Martin Truex in fuel trucks trying to pull back a bit but he's still getting all the air out of the front of his Toyota in the bottom lane as Ty Dillon takes the lead and with these few laps left in this stage I'm not sure how much fuel might even save if he goes back there and tries to track down Ty Dillon, the younger of the two brothers, his older brother started from pole position.
Ty entered this race at 82 1 shot, but that didn't make him a bad guy. choice I think he's a good choice and he won the Richmond leg a couple of weeks ago and he got really excited remember that great view from our visor camera here aboard Alex Bowman but we've talked about Truex from here in his situation, it's a bit of a win for us to make a little game and if he wants he has jumped to fifth on the outside fence well on David Ragan who is the first car on that inside line, he had previously been behind Martin Truex Jr in that inside line they told Regan. he's got half a lap to go and they need him to save up trying to go to the end with the 38.
Matt is worried about Kyle Busch's 18. Adam Stevens told him that he needs to go into fuel conservation mode because he has lost a lot of drafting. Help drill that big hole that's stuck to the end of this whole line trying to save fuel I might hear they do it for the people back home to say well how you gonna save fuel if you ain't running back on that throttle don't push it all the way you're going to burn less fuel if you're in it you can win it this is justin haley this is his first NASCAR Cup Series start and he's in the top 10 right now and he might be celebrating something else today because today is his 20th birthday and guess who he has the fastest lap of the race so to justin haley how about in tea opportunities i found him now aric almirola plus speeding problem a speeding problem he has what trouble man and dw whats your famous line when it comes to racing? what happens to these tires when you come in like this and lock up one of those tires that probably locked up the left front tire didn't see the right front panel flat spot that tire possibly caused a vibration and a blown tire remember we saw him trying to pull into the street pit road and it looked like the tires were trying to lock up and even trying to prevent me from doing it guys if you don't come to pit road now you're going to go all the way to the end of the stage because now we're getting to two to go yeah pit road will be closed so everyone out there has made their bed, they have to race at this stage and wait until they open pit road.
Jamie Austin Dillon in the 3 It's All About Stage Points. I just asked her crew chief if they're good with fuel, they're good, but they also told her to be careful with the 88. They told her spotter if she starts to stumble, put your hand up. You're okay Larry, as crew chief, okay, you could get to the bottom of the states, but what happens when the caution comes out? You will be worried about running out of water before you can get to pit road. Absolutely check with 33 degrees of superelevation. you might see a lot of them on the platform when this stage is over until they open pit road all the correct stage points up for grabs back to 10 i love this it's the battle to save fuel to see who wants to win this stage.
Truex could be out. I think they could all be there. they were on pit road on lap 14 and lap 15 summit they have the first caution flag they have that reserve they have a small reserve they can switch to it i'm sure most of them are at the moment and you've you got a lap when most of the time they set it up to about three quarters of the lap so they have it planned to win that thing go you know short you flip that switch to that second pump you think so determined . I went back to the pit road clicker Minh and others down in eighth for an apparent loss of fuel pressure.
There's no gas gauge on these cars, but here we come, the last lap, stage one and Ty Dillon of the welcoming North Carolina Geico Chevy is going to win. alex bowman chevrolet's stage one two three four with austin dillon and chase elliott his second stage rate this season it looks like about nine cars pitted before pit road opened they were so close to fuel they'd rather start queue in the longest line then ran out of gas at the race track so now the pace car brings them in and pit road will be open at the end of the first leg t ty Dillon leading three more Chevrolets to the checkered flag green and white to finish the first of three stages yes John also Austin a third and that's still a good job here's Vince Alex Bowman coming to pits in 88 he's a bit hot and also needs a ticket help with balance with the team chosen not to do a chassis tune instead. it's going to be four tires and they're going to get a little tape off the front jamie a sigh of relief for tonight dillon they did everything they could to win their second stage of the year now it's a four tire stop they got around the others after him on his brother in the 3 austin dillon a four wheel stop their aim was to get some stage points and they did a good job with that too - 12 down and out - guys 50th anniversary of Talladega we're at 1969 the Dillon the guys grandfather Richard Childress, he took his number three to the world's fastest speedway to race in the first ever Childress Cup race of the Talladega 500, yes sir where you say mark our stage we're there Ty Dillon hey this is Jeff Up the Fox.
Sports booth, you got me man, I love talking to you, every stage wins. I know how excited you were in Bristol and hey it's not easy as you know how hard it was all of you were trying to save fuel to get to the finish. from that stage and also trying to win it, yeah, you know, with our teams, all the partners were trying to work together, very important to get our Camaros out front, so I didn't get any information about my fuel economy and that was very important to know. When was I able to go and when was I able to?
We still didn't really know, but man, the guys did a good job, but really proud. I'm proud that my Guy Go team won a second stage which our team dominates, so do we. That's kind of what it's about, I'm not talking about you guys, okay, man, well, maybe we'll talk to you a little bit more today, maybe, think about the plan you mentioned, Matt, that's Matt Borland, his team leader, victory of the second stage of the season. the younger of the two North Carolina Dillon siblings welcomed her to the front yes 20-19 FIFA Women's World Cup kicks off in June all eyes will be on the United States national team as the defending champions head to France looking to win a historic fourth World Cup matches will be live on Fox and fs1 here at Talladega 59 full laps here are the fastest pit stops brought to you by Xfinity chase Elliott one of those first four on stage one Ricky Stenhouse Alex Bowman Ryan Blaney William Byron were the Fast Five now did we mention ten drivers stopped before pit road opened so they wouldn't run out of Sunoco race fuel and here they are they will have to go to the end of the line more long as they line up for the restart there was another penalty Martin Truex was caught for too many men over the wall by NASCAR's pit road officiating system ready for stage two as drivers approach the Geico restart zone anywhere within that area the control car can step on the gas and restart the race if it doesn't at the end of that green zone the flagman to restart is Chase Elliott and he's at it when you heard Ty Dillon when we talked to him on the radio talk about the Chevrolets working together that's exactly what he was talking about that's teammate Chase Elliott Alex Bowman moves right in front of him so they can hook up you've got william byron back there Austin Dillon's 3 Ty Bill's 13 Dillon on the outside so look for those guys to try to line up those Chevys along with those Fords on the inside we had all the Fords out front for a good part of the beginning but the Chevys are struggling and they have found Irwin on the front at the moment.
We'll see how long that lasts. at Stenhouse I had it, he had a great streak and when he tried to go to the outside of Alex Bowman, he just stopped. Stenhouse's teammate Ryan Newman, yeah, you also got to kozloski right there along with the 22 car and you saw Chase Elliott go from that bot lane to the top lane. I knew the line was moving up there with William Buyer and his teammate allowing Alex Bowman to flip to bot lane and get right past his teammate chasing Elliott to take the lead I think now ya Do you have an idea of what your car will and won't do Think about how much space you need I think you're getting a little more comfortable with what Chevy has on the outside Ford on the inside Where are the Toyotas?
Kyle Busch in tenth place is the first one, he's in the outside lane six. cars back now during the end of stage warning aric almirola got the free pass he was eligible for it as he had already served his previous penalty so he is back on the lead lap and has come from the bottom from back to 14 and I know Mike he You never want to make a mistake on the pitch. You want to have clean stops and all that stuff, but here you can get away with a little bit more because you can get back to the front so easily.
Larry Mac yeah let's do our Duracell driving confidence this is aric almirola eight full-time seasons in the Cup Series in his second it's stewart-haas racing in 2018 Eric and his crew chief John and the Meyer class won the foul playoff The Talladega race went to the playoffs and finished fifth in the final standings now Eric spotter Joel Edmunds started looking for Eric when he was at Richard Petty Motorsports in the 43 car and in early 2018 when Eric came to stewart- Haas, Joel moved in with him. I would say the success eric johnny and joel have had together at stewart-haas racing their first forty five races in that tin car it's safe to say aric almirola is driving with a solid duracell drive absolutely trust larry , won here last fall, now what you're looking at is from the spotter's position at the top of the tri-oval and if those cars look tiny it's because they're almost a mile away going into turn three from the point from observers view you know who else likes this view he has right now that guy in the lead right now 88 Alex this is the first few laps I think he has led this year and you know I talked to him on pit road before this race started. he's getting his wish alright jeff take us for a spin with alex bowman yeah so right here you know when you're in front now it's a little different when you have your teammate behind you but look at the little movement of his head every time his head moves a little to the right it's him looking in his mirror to see whatit's going on behind him it's a second lane to me of course right now he said it's a good time to take a breather cause things are pretty quiet you've got two of your teammates right behind you they've got the Chevys lined up this is the spot the one where you want to be and the calm before the storm just holding a good steering wheel there you know wide open you hear the rpms don't change much you're not getting what we talked about that close rate because you're leading in this field right now, How much does it help that he has his two teammates directly in line behind him?
Well, he makes you feel more comfortable, you know they're not going to do anything to ruin you. if he was a competitor, you're never sure he'd be quite confident with a teammate right behind you, particularly someone like Chase Elliott, who's a pretty good guy and pretty conservative on the track. I know you guys had a blast Friday night on the boulevard but seeing these cars flying around Talladega makes me want to do one thing oh yeah we have nothing to say maybe we don't want a triangle to fill that outside line the night before Nathan with you so inside to be patient there or good shape now Oh 795 of you five back in the 41 all but give me a patient stay with brad keselowski brought aric almirola's Fords Joey Logano and David Ragan around the outside to lead the full 68 laps at Talladega and that number 10 Almirola was the free pass car last caution now he's in the top three pulled out the whip how about David Reagan while you enjoy the race on Fox a great second screen experience the pass hot hang out code fs twitter facebook youtube or caffeine join michael waltrip katelyn fitzy and regan smith joey logano got in the lead and here comes david ragan on him and brad keselowski to the inside of kyle busch the team unfortunately, David Ragan didn't have anyone with them on that move, so I don't know. how well it's going to work, luckily he picked up Kyle Busch.
I don't think it was a good idea for David, but he has a great race car. I'll tell you Reagan in '38 you know when you talk about guys that are good at these super race tracks look at Joey Logano in the 22 car races he knows those races are coming and probably TJ Majors his spotter told him he's looking at your mirror, you go down and block that lane that Kyle Busch had all that boost speed in and once you get that boost you just go up it for as long as you can and that's why he actually has such a run. his teammate Brad Keselowski just walks past him.
Logano will come in to lead Lap 73 by about three feet over Keselowski's Reagan. Now this is what Joey was talking about before he took the lead. aric almirola was right on the rear bumper the two brad keselowskis who opened the door for alex bowman to get inside and take him away three wide friends are where you find them kyle busch is the only toyota in the front five but it seems he has found a friend with david ragan oh never mind reagan goes blind he was his friend but not for long that's right he has the best pusher he can have right behind him ricky stenhouse jr.
I'm going to push Kit Tom into the lead right here he better get up behind that car 20 fast well he's going to get some help from Aric Almirola to see if they can get back up and that fast you go from 1 to 11 but can. Go from 15 or 11 to 1 pretty quick too, yeah that's what I've seen with this package, it goes back, but it can go back, how about that third car on the outside? Martin Truex Matt Mike quick recovery for the 19th Truex remember he stopped early at the end of that stage before pit road opened because he was out of fuel, then he had the problem while the car was being repaired, a crew member He went to get a tire, his hand hit the concrete, there was the penalty. worrying about him now, though fuel, he told Cole Pearn under that caution.
I don't know how else I could have saved more. He was doing everything he could, so that could also be a concern later in the race. I think that's something unknown. and Larry we had talked about this about fuel economy with this package is injured and what do you know what do you know about that learn well I don't know Darryl as you look here the window is open we can see them start to come to pit road you can get in now and get to this state so i would start looking at if some drivers possibly hit pit road here in the next lap or two well i test someone i was worried i would hit something other than pit road which is disgusting busch going down that road straight Ricky Stenhouse jr. all over the rear bumper trying to give him a big push to get to the lead look at this he gets it there's a gap now between kyle busch's 18 in that outside lane now here comes ricky stenhouse jr. you want to push that outside edge, but if that car moves and right there, I mean it was a great moment for Kyle Busch as Ricky Stenhouse jr. he got to that rear bumper the busch cow may be the only guy that could hold on to that car in those conditions because that thing he said was out of control really what did that do for kyle busch it sent him right into his head but he got to that rear bumper too it's getting timed on both sides by the fords a blaney on the inside stenhouse on the outside and this is what we expected today we saw it in practice they were three wide no one was happy just driving right now they aren't worried about fuel mileage , anything else they just want to take the lead I think this is who we were I think it took a few laps in the race for everyone to figure out what they had because this is so new and now they know what they have and know they come back a little more comfortable with it and a lot more aggressive, well we've already had more lead changes today than we did in the 500 last fall, yes that's because Kurt Busch led pretty much every lap except the last one.
Mike this is very intense and we talked about this Jeff and I have and I think you too this is mental this is not physical it's easy to drive these cars mentally on this race track even though you wear out Joey Logano in the 22 years in the ones at the next table at dinner last night i said what do you think it says? I think you will see an entertaining race and you will see it all as we go Fox side by side Olive Branch Mississippi ricky stenhouse is the first of five Fords to lead 81 laps in the Geico 500 at Talladega 26 complete laps we are almost halfway through the stage two I love Brian patty Ricky Stenhouse juniors crew chief he and they go together they are both going to do everything in their power to win this race whatever in the Ricky Stenhouse whatever it takes rider patty is a chief of team whatever it takes when Stenhouse is also a guy who isn't happy with being second, third, fourth or fifth, he wants to lead a lot of pit road action midway through this stage Vince the 42 of Kyle Larson comes onto the road Larson has been dealing with a little shaky race car it'll just be gas Matt and it'll just be fuel for the 24 William Byron all the Chevrolets on pit road finishing off Jamie Austin Dillon in the 3 right now chasing Elliott good recovery little time out of tires there for all three or all 13 can all come out of the pits together we talked earlier in the day about all the manufacturers having their own agendas and chevrolet have just shown their hand 1 if its a numbers race mike they were 11 Chevrolet just got together if they can keep those Chevrolets together that's going to be very powerful I'm telling you I can't imagine you can't get the guys who have seen the benefits and the racist past of working together and I think you got it you have to remember that when you go into these races 27 laps to stage 2 here's a quick word from Duracell this is the trusted brand Ford is out front 4 of them before Kyle Busch's number 18 Toyota he also has Erik Jones' teammates and Martin Truex, just two Chevrolets in the top 20, rookie Justin Haley and Brendan Gaughan in the top 15, then further back the cars that pitted and mike remember identity. we have a restrictor plate here now we have a cone spacer we don't have 400 horsepower we have 550 horsepower we don't have a three inch post we have a nine inch binder everything about the race today is different than what we've had here before, that's why these crew chiefs and drivers have to make adjustments on the fly, so we went from the leading field to the cars that pitted a few moments ago, that group of 10 or so Chevrolets that came in stayed on the lap of the leader with a fuel just stop larry tire we're not a big concern here yeah not really mike but those fords not pitting will have to get somewhere around lap 90 which would be 20 to go on a stage Yeah they're going to make this fuel go all the way but yeah I would say just like you saw the Chevrolets facing Mike with no tires just fuel and then Mike I think a lot of these guys thought we might see a crash pass today because of what we saw in practice and the unknowns from today's race I think a lot of guys were expecting a lot more caution compared to what we've seen so far and I think what you're going to see them do is like Larry McReynolds was talking about no tires . fuel, but under those warnings at those ends of the stage, if they come to pit road under caution, you'll see him put on four tires or at least two.
I think there are a lot of elements to this race that is just like any other race we've ever had. ever Mike, it's all the factors that revolve around the cars and the difference in the car this time from what we've had here in previous strategy fuel positioning. since the crash on lap 11, ten leading cars at Talladega and counting cars that have already stopped 26 cars on the lead lap in position, perhaps to win, Geico 500 at Fox is sponsored by NASCAR Official Sponsor Monster Energy , 21 laps to go on stage 2 at Talladega to 10 Chevrolets facing eight still on the lead lap running about 15 seconds ahead of leaders Ricky Stenhouse in the 17th there that group two of those Chevys have gone one lap behind below teammates Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece couldn't pick up the draft of the other Chevys coming out of the pits, so they're in this group with the leaders including all the Fords and Toyotas yet to pit in the second stage, that's what shows you why ricky stenhouse jr. loves these big race tracks highest running Toyota in that group is 7th place Kyle Busch Matt Mike the game and planning takes place throughout the race Kyle Busch a few moments ago a little frustrated right now working together in that that's what I like the most yeah ten- four working on it, it seems so, if it stops coming from the Fords and one of the Toyotas, the leaders come to pit road, Kyle Busch takes the lead in this race he spins Brad Keselowski's 2 and you also see gas making sure the grid is clean just gas and he sees Matt it has to be fuel just for Ryan Blaney in the 12 Lackey has it full still waiting he finally left on 19 Martin Treach Jr. pull around gulf brothers 96 also finished off jamie joey logano in the 22nd said he got a little loose right side tires is the call mel topham up with you oh plus clubs call clip boyer we have to back up to get into his stall, as Jamie pointed out, and also Daniel Suarez almost missed because of the thickness of the bottle cap there on pit road trying to get into his pit, Erik Jones' 20 has spent much of the day towards the front group . a chassis tune up and gas for Erik Jones's 20 manage hero fuel around those Toyotas just for the 18 a bush on it is far Matt DiBenedetto finishes his fuel stop Stanton Barrett's 52 gets serviced and returns to the fray so things turn around hey like am i the leader?
Watch him go and he might be behind the wheel too mate rookie Ryan Preece of the Modified division gives us a good ride with that Pro Tehran port cam here we go with Stenhouse around Kyle Busch aric almirola in the mix there with martin truex church made a nice move that might hold him the can was under him and i knew i had to give him some space here on pit road Daniel Suarez comes in whoa Ryan Newman comes out and here's the other one when Joey Logano was done and Clint Boyer didn't know that guy very well, he really cut Logano off a break there, what a clint bowyer toe-to-toe move to avoid Joey Logano there, hey you want, watch this moment, okay, watch this chase.
Elliott the nine who is getting that big toe 17 from Ricky Stenhouse tries to squeeze and put the block on Chase Elliott but you know what it's called to push him to the limit, he took him there like he felt he could and had to. let him go if he would have pulled another hand saying he is much different chase Elliott whose father holds the all time NASCAR qualifying speed record sethere now in front of Geico 500 16 laps to stage two 13 laps to go into stage two let's go three wide sponsored by John Deere chase Elliott your lead left watch Joey Logano and Erik Jones battle for tenth in the middle and his stage one winner, ty Dillon, has worked his way up to the sixth of a seven. car chevrolet train up front let's sing a song why don't you meet me in the middle if that great race the outside lane made right there led by aric almirola's ten looks like they were doing five miles an hour faster than that ?
Daniel Henry's eight in the inside lane then cars pretty steamy my friend looks like he handled well he's running fast and you know for me these guys out front right now those Chevrolets in the inside lane have seen this happen before I think they should start moving into that outside lane and block those four words that are about to hit their outside. What I told you earlier, Jamie, go ahead. Alan Gustafson, his crew chief this morning, and said: "You know we had these manufacturer meetings about four of them this weekend. He said I've been a part of it before, where Chevrolet wants us to meet.
We're planning here today. and getting all the teams on board, all 18 cars, to work up front and in the meantime, all nine, by the way, guys, he overcame a speeding penalty on pit road, a problem when he fell off the cat and now he's leading this race with a good car yeah Jamie I think what's a little daunting if I'm the Chevy guys is the Ford guys seem to be able to drive alongside them here comes Almirola and joy Mangano Keselowski and they seemed to be able to drive and take the lead well they're going to pass me they're going to have to pass me on the inside because I'm going to block that outside lane before they ever get there they don't seem willing to move up as if They were a bit split here, 10 of our Amirola broke away from some of those other strong ones and now he's following those Chevrolets so we'll see what he can do. if you don't have that help, well you're not going to get any help from Ty Dillon or Daniel Henrik at the Chevy's on the 13th and 8th the friend his other Ford's Stenhouse the blue car 17 they're a long way from health the first one What they're going to want to try to do is shuffle that car 10 just off that line.
I know because I'm T that car 10 Elmer oh he's crafty man now I tell you with the fast race car ten. laps to go stage two lap 101 completed Talladega chase Elliott in front side by side nineteen cars in the leading draft at Talladega over the first not single file then following as they vie for position nearing the end of stage two six laps from now Hendrick Motorsports up front one two three Jimmy Johnson ran over a piece of debris cut a right front tire hit the wall still running but ten laps down and there might be something I haven't seen today and I thought in I wouldn't actually do a tandem draft yet not.
I thought we'd see some guys hook up and push each other, but I'm not sure the cars are handling well enough to do that. Could you answer me in about three laps? We know there is a warning. I see the bumps and that seems to work pretty well. I don't think they're driving well enough to be if they will if it's for the one lap shootout win so here comes the Fords on the outside Ryan Blaney trying to get a little sidestream to make something work how these Fords try to inhale the Camaros leading this race Matt Mike we told you at the top of the show the Fords are trying to work together if they can but sometimes you'll have to be the Lone Ranger Blaney has lost his teammates penske at one point frustration said and he said quote I can't take care of my teammates any longer he's out at that point well if you go back over the last four or five years Toyota were the most organized in Daytona won the Daytona 500 and Ford Camp said, hey, let's take a look at this.
Suddenly, they started working together. They began to set the standard, and then Chevrolet looked at it. they're doing better because they've got them all lined up at the bottom, but no, do you think it's a little ironic that Ryan Blaney says he can take care of the story? He is the youngest of the three pilots. out of the race due to crash on lap 11 Bubba Wallace Kevin Harvick Matt Tifft Michael and much later in the race still with lean damaged from that crash Denny Hamlin also went to the garage Johnson ten laps down on Clint Boyer was in the one that is six laps behind Stanton Barrett Cody where Parker Kligerman is also several laps back but we still have 26 cars on the lead lap yeah blame it on 12 cars even though he keeps doing it and coming down that gate , he tries to be a little lateral, he shoots out, it's got Almirola behind him pushed him a little bit they could go up there you can almost hear ty Dillon having to ease off the throttle a little bit right there and that's when Ryan Blaney really pounced on he think handling when you're in that bot lane like this on those side jockey cars on the outside can definitely knock out the handling remember jeff they just came and refueled with you they put tires on the video two laps to go on stage 2 like this that the pit lane is officially closed who contacted there ricky stenhouse just got hit was it kurt busch on the inside i think stenhouse got a little loose in there it seems like some of those sports are a little free on the outside i've seen that happen up 42 from Larson I saw him go sideways out of the corner these cars are about to spin if something happened to Ty Dillon as well and that broke momentum a little bit and maybe some of these cars have to fan out Almirola is 10th in number 10 trying to get the last point of the stage just ahead of Logano there's Almirola who has led the most laps today 27 don't tell Erik but in the last 18 races at Talladega the driver led the most laps three times you don't.
You don't have to be one of them, listen, he knows how to lead a lap, yes, the most important. I think one thing these guys are happy to say something witty because they need tires. Chevy driver to win a stage in 2019 ty Dillon now has two Kyle Larson a look at this huge weapon comes from Blaine wait wait Kurt Busch went outside got help from his brother Kyle Busch and that whole lane really started to form and the initiator advancing has green and white tokens in hand stage two is coming to an end right now chase elliott getting to the flag leading alex bowman and william byron hendrick chevy's one two three which was pretty intense the watcher was excited no that was a brave guess Ted Allen chases Elliott gets his first stage win of the season Geico 500 on Fox is sponsored by the Ford Hall of fans are you NASCAR's biggest fan? visit ford.com slash
nascar
from Novartis and Geico Official Partner of NASCAR two full stages 77 laps to go, there's second stage winner chase Elliott taking his first stage win of the season and fourth for Chevrolet this fall . going back to smackdown live royalty free would be a good title for what we're about to see in stage three i definitely think so i mean it looks like his intensity at the end of these stages and as we get closer to the end of the race just going to rise let's take a look at how the coke family of drivers is doing here at the end of stage two finishing with seven Chevrolet is in the top eight Austin Dillon currently fifth Kyle Larson in that group Joey Logano Ryan Newman Daniel Suarez on the lead lap for 24th place Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace in the garage, yeah I know, I know we're on a stage break now, but it's got to be very encouraging for the Hendrick Motorsports guys.I mean having three cars. one two three run as well as they do now that's pretty encouraging for those guys yeah I think they chased Elliott too what's encouraging is the last time he once organized two he won the race at Watkins Glen , he'll drink his way around turn four at caution speed and the green light is on at the end of pit road we're going Ball State University Alumnus of the Year Vince Welch well what Billy thanks Mike Alex Bowman came to the street de pits celebrated his 26th birthday on thursday he hopes to celebrate his first career win a little later today he really likes the car coming into pit road from second place little titan four tire gas man in little blaney's car in the tight side slight air pressure change concern on William Baier's 24 Baier was missing the left front corner hood pin, but the biggest concern was fuel pressure rising going down the backstretch had to flip the switch. balance but that seems stoked they got their first stage win of the year here's their run Sunoco off pit road Elliott and Bowman as they arrived and Kyle Larson Kyle Busch and polesitter Austin Dillon style the two winners from our state a chase this is jeff in the cockpit you got me right mate you had to get over some stuff in pit lane but your pit crews are doing an amazing job getting you and your teammates out of first Chevy guys have been working very well together.
Will it be necessary to keep the number 9 car in front to get this win? Yeah guys let me do a good job today I'm just trying to be smart. what we saw right there I don't think we got it right man I appreciate that have a good one appreciate you guys the hottest driver in NASCAR takes the stage to win with 75 laps to go at the fastest speedway in the world in football, they say defense. win championships we'll see if that's true here today here don't be afraid to tell me what you're thinking you know just like you know the same page i'm here doing this for everyone for new or like loose money so who's right omg if you're watching NASCAR on fox getting ready for green flag and stage three there's a look at daniel suarez our favorite segment in the nascar race on fs1 monday thru thursday nights it's radioactive today we're radioactive with daniel in football they say defense win championships, we'll see if that's true here today.
I'll be afraid to tell me what you're thinking, you know, so we pass Joey Logano and Daniel Suarez to restart on the gray front row. the repeat of the flag the end result is correct no help here know how inside out big surprise or Absalon let's hear some of daniel suarez's day as we prepare for stage 3 they will take the green flag with 72 laps for their double file out on duty number 4 Larry Mac tells us he's right on the cusp of making this a one stop race, if things go well here they're coming to the Geico restart zone, good crowd at Talladega , Sun pulls back and chases, Elliott will step on the gas and put us under the green for stage three, please drive, don't come over there?
Out of the bot lane, great race, they're going to leave that mid lane hanging as four or five cars break free when, again, Mike, they were Chevrolet cars. I've been looking at what these other guys have been doing on these super racetracks, buy even on restarts, finding these gaps and holes to line them up. Kyle Busch timing great job driving that car keeping it going and he really didn't even lose much in that counter control in those quick hands from Kyle Busch is all he saved because he was out of control Keselowski was still pushing as they passed the start/finish line look at it and see if you get to the left rear of the bumper that's one of the things that can really loosen these race cars I think that's what actually Keselowski did a good job of slowing down the momentum subsided before he got there to the rear bumper the 18 just wanted to give the guy a little push it's still enough for the car 18 to leave a little bit of shape so it's different to you and me who won't meet stenhouse in the blue 17 falls to the middle i don't see love those shots i mean i know it sounds crazy but thats what it feels like in the race car yeah that camera is mounted firmly thats how these cars are stiff and sprung thats how unsteady the bumpers Rear mounted I think that might be a slight exaggeration, but it's still a pretty bumpy ride.
These are race cars, not street cars. The Masetto line is not designed for comfort, but for speed. moment and he knew those Fords weren't going to be friendly to him they took him out look at this now he's gone to the back you can go back and catch your breath even Kyle Busch has to do that back there with Jeffrey Earnhardt who got the free pass at the end of the second leg and you could have the last Chastain you could go back there and save some fuel that wouldn't be a bad idea there's a lot of things thisIt's the stage of the race, Jeff, as you well know, a lot of things are still on his mind going to the end and a lot of these drivers might notice that this is also when it picks up a lot of intensity we're running out of left we have 69 laps to go now you start to position yourself thinking about what I'm going to do when we get to the end of this race let's catch up with Ty Dillon our stage 1 winner Jamie well at the end of that last race he was saying how loose he was right when they came in and they took out the Tigers from the left rear. had a slow leak down to 3 lbs pressure and put new tires on brought it back to Mike and did a big wedge adjustment to help them handle that Cowboys excuse one long pass maybe he hasn't decided to save fuel in the good he got a big push from Matt DiBenedetto and Matt has the fastest lap of this race with his family Levine running 95 and he gave Kyle a big push to pass the cars and look there what's he got on common?
She's got two other Toyotas around her in four she lost Toyota teammate Denny Hamlin so if they can get all 20 of Erik Jones together that's four Toyotas they'll want to work with yeah that Mike Mike Wheeler with the one who worked there. the cow on those guys, but Denny Hamlin, so he has a good rapport and might be willing to help Kyle get back up front. The problem with the front is that it's all Chevrolet on the inside. Those first six cars inside. The lane back to Austin Dillon's red number 3 is all Camaros and we saw earlier in the day when the 10 I think it's a 10 car See aric almirola was leading that outside lane he was able to drive all the way for those Chevrolets and take the lead but right now the Blaney led outside lane can't make up as much ground but I think Kyle Larson is having a great run here his green Camaro is third fifth and it's interesting because this is a team that if there is bad luck Have had have had it this season.
I joked with crew chief Chad Johnson before the race about whether the place where most people have bad luck wouldn't be something. Maybe this is where you turn it around. We can get there and at this point they have had a really good race car. Kyle says it's a little different depending on who's running around him and where, but otherwise no change at the last stop. fit a few times but nothing nothing serious how you can't have good luck with the four leaf clover in your car chase Elliott has led since the end of stage 2 66 laps for you the Geico 500 on Fox is sponsored by Geico official partner of NASCAR sixty-two laps to go at Talladega that second group is still moving to the front as you can see in our aerial coverage provided by Goodyear as their battles earn their name Goodyear the official tire of NASCAR pretty interesting battle Mike that's all Chevy's down, all the Fords are outside car 12, we'll get it, it'll get almost to car, car 24 that William bought and it seemed to stop and back up a little bit, but it's up and back. up and back good now in past races at Talladega we are used to seeing the front pack of cars right around the wall on the outside Jamie McMurray you were at this race last year how are you doing this looks different ok ok I mean, it's almost the opposite, like guys are running around the yellow line and every time the outside lane gets a little bit of a push, they pile up about five or six rows back in that lane. they lose all their momentum and have to start over, the Chevys have done a great job, although in the last stint when those guys did their green flag pit stop they cut into the pits and went out single file and were able to finish in the top three so they're doing a good job now but I can't wait to see what happens when we get to the bottom and all those guys are still looking listen hey Jamie are you surprised how committed those Chevys are in the bot lane whenever we see those sports line up and build up momentum in the outside lane you know normally someone would jump on the outside to try and block that momentum but those guys seem really committed to being lined up bot yeah, but I think as you get closer to the end it will be bot lane but it has worked up to this point.
I've seen a couple guys want to fold and then get back in line, but it's working for them right now. and we'll just have to wait and see what happens when we get to the end. Do you know something? I think maybe it affects us on the bottom line. The high line is the air ducts at the front of the car. There are two large black holes below. under the headlight doors you're taking air out of the car and this big rear wing if you're out there is taking a lot of air out of that car right at the bottom hitting the front end of your car and slowing down you might have an effect on that outside line well that's the wisdom of 12 wins at Talladega between the three of us watching this play out so we've got five Chevys out front then Erik Jones Toyota Ryan Blaney is Ford on the outside and Kyle Busch well , he's not in the picture right now Matt Mike over the years you've seen maybe a couple of drivers with different manufacturers teaming up on their aero only cars worked better together for some reason but not the case with Kyle Busch actually made the remark to his spotter Tony Hertz from third for some reason when the two carved Keselowskis got to his bumper, it really slowed him down and Herschel replied that he saw the same thing when Keselowski was hiding under Logano's 22, some people play better with others some players play better with others yeah well someone who wasn't playing nice shuffled Austin Dillon's 3 cars in the back he was lined up with all those Chevrolets in front and something happened. where he got stuck in the middle and went all the way to the back.
Jamie, well Austin had some damage before and they put some Barre Vaughn on the trunk lid, the back of that race car. Richard Childress his grandfather is looking through binoculars and he said he saw something black fly out of the back of the car they don't know if it's Barrett's link but Austin said the feel of the car has changed he doesn't know if it's bad or if it's a tire going flat, so it came off. from the draft and fell back fell from 6 to 25 reaching the strip with 57 laps to chase Elliott and his friends Chevrolet still in front Geico 500 on Fox is sponsored by Monster Energy official sponsor of NASCAR and by credit one bank card official NASCAR credit perfect for race fans 56 laps to go were under caution for debris at Talladega pit road will open up and we are looking at a two stop race to get to lap 188 and checkered flag five Chevrolet is in front then Erik Jones Toyota Ryan Blaney is Ford Henrik Kozlowski Buescher is top 10 28 cars are on the lead lap and Reed Sorenson will get the free pass and get back on the lead lap after this pit road caution fit Alex Bowman's 88 coming down and it's been a very good day today for this team 88 no mistakes here Alex has been asked to stop dead in the box so he can have a clean tackle and for Kyle's 42 Larson ever made a change to the cars from the first stop of the day only four tires and gas again here Matt a problem with car 12 leaving hit his tire got it back car 24 a Byron their service is complete but they are going having to pit on laps 170 to 171 Jamie chases him for the remaining nine 38 laps so far today the car has been pretty quiet on the radio a four tire stop and he's out there's a race off pit road Erik Jones is busy five places when Fox Sports started Gary Lang was an integral part of the Fox Sports look and feel who tragically passed away last week and we want to play a piece to show you the genius of Gary Lang this is from Fox Sports at Talladega 2001 traveling for real getting ready for the restart with 53 laps to go at least one more pit stop at Talladega now here's today's credit a bench for a good look Mike it's no secret those Hendrick Chevrolets haven't gotten off to a stellar start but here today those Chevrolet teams are working for better than anyone else out there chase elliott finished third here a year ago watch him go maybe take that first win at talladega yeah jeff ford has won seven straight races here i know the chevrolet camp has been flexing those muscles but it's all said and done and done, Brad Keselowski will field his eighth time in a row, oh no, look, he says: I said uh, 20 to join the gunnels, he's won three of the last seven races here, he's going to have to be aggressive and he's going to have to guard some people. off my guys ok on that one i think you're all wrong DW i'm going with ryan blaney's 12 he's been drafted faster than most young drivers finished second 502 years ago he says he just doesn't think in your car.
He's okay up front, but as crew chief Jerry Bull says, I think you're too hard on yourself? just like last fall last lap or you can put all the car numbers in a bucket and just reach over and pull one out because here we go we'll restart with 52 laps to go and 29 cars on the lead lap Erik Jones Toyota Ryan Blaney Ford upfront here we go you know we don't want to overlook that Jones guy either because you know he had a great finish at Daytona and he's a very good sprinter himself I love a different strategy here some teams took two tires some teams didn't use tires some took four what would have been your preference at this stage of the race jeff i like every time he comes in under caution i want four tires in green i don't want tires yes tire darrell you have to have four tires of that way you can maneuver you can move you have grip give me four tires man yeah because on these restarts we've seen how wild and crazy they drive us he goes three wide with this teammate i'm not sure it was planned well i think someone told him sent the message to Keselowski of what Blaney said about his teammates earlier that it's going to hurt those guys one punch look how quickly the group got to them in the mid and outside lanes for widths which didn't work well for DiBenedetto in the 95th no no help that was a bad move by blaine dia and it really hurt him keselowski alati ladies able to back off here and pick up ricky stenhouse jr. that will help him maybe get all the keselowski kids back a long time ago yeah blaney was riding there and for some reason keselowski had a great run and decided to try and go outside make three wide on his teammate House team, of course, here. come on that's what i said before about these four it's a little demoralizing because when they get a race man they can go buy a lot of cars now from that situation here's a radio for ryan blaney steam let's see how you handle that kind of feeling like if there was a the little Alabama Slama comes here and there's something wrong that didn't feel right when we talked about intensity building frustration may build so far Drivers in the top three have won three of the last four Super Speedway races except this year's.
The Daytona 500 won by Denny Hamlin, who's in the garage, and Mike again, we talked about this, it's not terribly physical here, but it's terrible mentally, just exhausting your head starts to hurt and making those quick decisions is hard to do when you get there at the end of the race yeah ten of our aric Almirola got dragged out there somehow he's stuck in the middle and Kyle Busch changed lanes and held on to teammate Erik Jones the 20th in the 18 hooked up it's Penske's Fords against Gibbs' Toyotas and right with him it's that roush-fenway ford Ricky Stenhouse's 17 fits good and he came from behind remember he started from behind and he's had the same problem all day the cars have been too loose they haven't hit that sweet spot with the balance yet, but you see Stenhouse going to the outside trying to make the race.
This is a critically important race for them. They started the day out of the playoff picture. the playoffs had to capitalize and they knew coming here today and mike this is what i'm saying that's why i want four tires when it gets so crazy on these restarts here three and four wide you want a car that has a little more grip under you to be able to maneuver and go from that top lane to the bot lane now that the time that Forbes wanted nothing to do with Kyle Busch they blocked him they pushed him back to temporary but when I look at Ricky Stenhouse here he doesn't like it this car, it doesn't handle very well, but it's leading a race Benedetto worked his way up to the front group Jamie and he's one of those drivers in '95 who didn't take tires at the last stop spoke to him before he got in the car after his career at Daytona you may remember leading a handful of laps boosted his confidence unfortunately hecrashed said he feels today is the best chance to win he's in a good place that's for sure now how about Paul Menard who sat in the tail of the leading draft about 30 laps ago here's Menard for the Wood Brothers in second place , Mike, and that's where it ended up 11 years ago here at Talladega, they made a lot of adjustments to that race car, three significant changes, remember the Wood Brothers, they're chasing their 100th win.
Menard would love to be that guy to do it. How many races did you say we've been here at Talladega? in this package Wow two for two and none of the lanes seem to have a lead bobby labonte these seem like desperate hours here to give me a countdown like 50 40 30 20 15 5 to go because when i was ramping like this i want to know how many laps left because when it passes for 2 and 3 wide you just want to be able to manage and figure out where I win and where I need to make a move okay Bobby you know that's what I find so intercept. don't think that just looking at this poor guy will hide in the back right away.
I'm just wondering if these guys aren't exactly sure when to go and it seems like they're cashing in on every run they can get you right now. You know what I'm saying Bobby this is a tough part of the race you're two and three wide here and everyone is fighting in a bad position trying to get to that spot where they feel like they have the best chance to gain a little bit more was the time to do all this but sure, well I think those four guys they want to line up together saw what the shitty guys did when they were lined up to get those four guys to come back to the front and stop everyone. it's been done by all three Penske cars and the Wood Brothers 21 that's operated out of the Penske shops those four are all together and Roush Fenway's Ricky Stenhouse is right with them so there's five Fords inside like we saw five Chevrolets earlier , yeah, I think that's what they were fighting for Mike, landing 45 laps to go forty-two laps to go, the fans are always excited here at Talladega and this weekend Monster Energy brought out their best teams to come out to the pavement and take to the skies before the race how many fans do you have right below us Mike there are some people down there I don't know why they bought a seat because they still haven't said on it one of Talladega's most famous names long ago been Earnhardt kalin art got his last cup win here in the fall of 2000, he and kenny wallace together drafted to come up front dale jr.
The Pied Piper at Talladega and look at that purple eyed canine car that is Jeffrey Earnhardt keeping the family name proud by running in the top 15 yeah you don't get it he did a really good job yesterday in the Xfinity race he ran today and had a good day. Hey, we're Earnhardt country, you can bet those fans would go crazy if he won this race, they'd go crazy if he just got up there, mixed it up a bit like he's doing now and what a show these fans are having. right now these races are really awesome to me there's a look at jeffrey who is carrie earnhardt jr. dale had three children carrie kelly dale dale jr. and we want to send our condolences to the Earnhardt family on the loss of Dale jr. and Kelly's mom, Brenda Jackson, Robert Gee's daughter, who stopped by this week, yeah, Martin walks around trying to get, it's not just his first short track win, he's trying to get his first Speedway win today, man , Mike, car a little tight but lucky man. she's got a little bit of Earnhardt history those two Xfinity titles his first Cup Series win right now he's back at the point you mentioned it took him 81 races to score for a short track win today is his 57th Super Speedway race has never won one if if he did today he would be the first driver each to go first on short track first consecutive Super Speedway wins Vince well that driver right behind him in 38 It's David Ragan who has won here in both the Xfinity and the Cup Series Reagan is now losing a couple of places but it's been an awesome race today but the handle has gotten a little bit off of that car and he said that it's very nervous and that's not a good position to be in and this kind of reason wow that can really be full on spin number two oh man the two on the 20 the two and the 12 I think it will because of the problem here Mike aside I don't know how you saved him and his teammates but as we see that intensity building up they're starting to get tighter and tighter pushing harder and harder and those tires are starting to get pretty hot and become in a factor right there are the two cars behind the 22 22 was what saved that thing he actually had he know they both just hooked it on the right side of that bumper but i think my jump and we're sitting down guys, we're talking about the close rate when you run you can really make a move so that all happened one lap ago and now look what happened at 20 lovely oh boy you see this little space here where there's nothing that's the eye of the storm, she's starting to meditate, yeah, with all this going on, i'll be really surprised if this goes green all the way. you know what this reminds me of mike but which one is the shark and which one is a captive someone is going to take a bi off the back of one of these boats in a minute i know he does this kind of race he does i mean he does me a nervous wreck trepidation wonder what will happen and he will win you know what will happen i know he runs a 95 you saw the close rate right there on the 95 DiBenedetto had a great run when he got to the bottom of the 20 and then once he you get there, it just stopped.
It seemed like Mike and Jeff were looking rather through the test today. He went down towards turn one. speeding out of turn one the Vice Titans with 35 laps to go and five Fords with money in front Brad Keselowski turned around entering pit road all the Chevys came a lap ago these are all Fords and most of them Toyota and someone went in the back of the cog might be going the wrong way the way it's heading there it turns around but it was in the box so it could make the stops but it's right there still green with 33 laps to go so our David Ragan was halfway in the Erik Jones box he gets really crazy here just trying to slow down two cars you can see moving that means they are braking trying to Didn't lock up the tires and oh, he just jumped out and got the rear end. from the car round, put them right in the box, how amazing is that Joie Chitwood man, the danger angels, right there, you wanted the right sides, only bred because you asked yourself that you could do that now, David Ragan and Erik Jones They say that you are in my smallpox here a little. so get lost yeah you can see david ragan just overshot his pit stop which was chaotic.
I tell you the new leader, his watermelon man his, him Ross Chastain, now if you think that's an unlikely choice because he's been in 25 26 most of this. he raced in the daytona 500 ross chastain on this team finished in the top 10 and at the end of last year he thought he was in the cat bird seat he grabbed with chip ganassi thought it was going to be a real break for him good for watch him up front today now remember when this last green flag period happened and stopped with this sequence all those Chevrolets lined up to talk and the Toyotas got mixed up this is where the real action will be right who can take the lead and take control this race right now Joey Logano has it, so we'll mention that Ross Chastain is the only lead lap driver who hasn't made that pit stop yet.
I don't think he could have said that someone has a better car than anyone else. otherwise as we just saw with the 22 car Logano gets up front it looks pretty good and here comes Stenhouse and then here comes Kyle Busch it looked like you get those races and that's what makes the difference Kyle Busch looks like have the best car to change lanes ooh Stenhouse seems to have the best car to stop and pass and push and obviously one car is missing in this group that number two car Brad Keselowski with that pit road incident spun that car back a a little further back yeah he'll need help and jeff as we said before if you lose the eraser and have to run around here by yourself you'll be about four seconds slower than the pack and close to 200 miles an hour maybe you can find some Help, he's almost half a turn behind.
I didn't realize that I wasted as much time as him and they know the way back. 30 laps to go in the Geico 500. 28 laps. to go let's look at today's race recap sponsored by Geico lap 11 Bubba Wallace enters back or Ryan Blaney exits the platform directly towards Michael McDowell who also took Kevin Harvick and Matt Tifft out of the race along with those two and eventually Denny Hamlin stayed on the road due to damage on lap 11 Jimmie Johnson ran over a piece of debris caught a tire hit the wall currently has 10 laps down on Ty Dillon the stage 1 winner is close on pit road Almirola there with Suarez and Joey Logano takes off in front of Clint Bowyer Chase Elliott won stage 2 and then Brad Keselowski locks him in coming to pit road.
He lands in the box so they can complete the service. Send him back, but he's about a second and a half behind him. the group, rather, is about a second and a half lap slower than the group in front of it, so he expects a caution flag, we still have 27 cars on the lead lap and Ross Chastain, who has a Contrary strategy to everyone who stopped on the lap. 154 and 55 is his race leader yeah he said he's now going to the back in the lead group here Logano's anomer just entered turn 1 so he has a big lead at this point, now it's going to have to stop it's out of sequence but it continues to come out and with that a quick word from Duracell this is a trusted brand so Ross Chastain is certainly a long shot but if you take a precaution things could go on his way and keep him in the mix like we said earlier in the day if you're in you could win larry yeah remember everyone pitted on lap 133 at the last caution so ross chastain looks like what they're going to to do is go as far as they can, so I would say somewhere. around 18 20, maybe 22 laps to go, then you'll be on pit road and Jeff asked me a question during the commercial break and I think this is good information to share with all the drivers that stopped on green, the only pilots to do so. two tires Kyle Busch Ryan Blaney Paul Menard as well as Martin Trix jr. so out of all those drivers, four of them took two tires, all the rest felt lonely.
It sure could come into play when we get to the closing line. I've seen it a couple of times at the end of some of these stages where the guys I think were barely holding up well remember a lot of those guys took four tires they weren't wearing tires this time they took four tires under that precaution right now Kyle Busch it's our best Toyota performance in fourth after XP DiBenedetto and Erik Jones and Jeffrey Earnhardt all on the lead lap and Mike one thing about now at this point in the race you know what you've got you know what your car is capable of to do, so now you're just thinking about the position I want to be in to do. a race on this at the end of the day because me and jeff don't pay for this you want to be in front you won't be the leader or you want to be second or third and Ross Chastain will relinquish the lead and bring his number 15 to pit road to Patricia and the crew that will bring Ricky Stenhouse back to the front Rickie's last winning season and a half ago at NASCAR's other two and a half mile super speedway in Daytona yes there was a time about a year and a half two years ago that that car 17 was the car to beat when it came to Daytona and Talladega Jimmie fennec and that team Roush Fenway they like the Wood Brothers they have a habit of building super speedy teams really fast and you Suarez Fifth a little soda machine battle here between Suarez and Chase Elliott.
If Chase wins tonight's race, you can get 10 free boneless wings when you buy ten on Monday, or get free fried pickles if Chase finishes this race in the top ten. I know I behaved quite well at this time. I have that inside lane shape that outside lane shape. you're just getting ready you're starting to think ok what if we're gonna have to be? How am I going to block if they run me? How am I going to win this race? that's what you're thinking okay there's an additional factor here and it's what our pit crews talked about right before we went green each of the three participating manufacturers ford chevrolet and toyota had sternly worded discussions with their team saying if you're going to push someone to win Sure you are driving the same brand.
You're fine, it's just that car 22 is something thatdid alone. He drove around the leader and got into doing it. He drove to 17th and took the lead. Yeah, he just got a good shove from behind. he gained a lot of momentum when a.m. he was able to clear the 17 off Ricky Stenhouse but as we've seen off Stenhouse I don't know he must have missed the Ford meeting or something because it seems like he didn't want to and be content to ride second no matter who's in front of him look that black number one right in the middle of things Kurt Busch is the only Chevrolet in the top five right now has another Camaro chasing Elliott right behind him is in a year deal with Chip Ganassi Racing Daniel Suarez great move from Daniel Suarez to go three wide and get second I really think it was the best move was for Logano's 22 created that situation right there we're not in a good situation if you're marc tricks junior's 19 stuck in that outside lane right now he has help that comes in handy he did it for Matt DiBenedetto but 95 went back to the mid lane and stopped behind Almirola and what I see Logano doing now is he's blocking he sees what in Witts
energy
that Lane has the most momentum he has the most energy and that's where he tries to go oh this move escape from trouble actually boss what would it cost the smart guy swore he got up and Suarez was trying his best to stay away graciously yeah he knew if he pushed him through the test, well, that's one of the more sensitive bugs on this track that probably would have gone astray.Joey Logano, our opening front-row hero, is in the middle of it all. that's going to come from 41 s Wars that car is pushing it 18 there it is and outside Truex arrives at the house 17 a jump start a push oh man this just started he doesn't know what happens if Torrance can't decide which way to go well i guess i cant make a man yet maybe who doesnt want to lead right now thats my thinking jeff is being a loyal soldier for now working legato youll see it all side by side watching the geico 500 on fox fifteen laps to go joey Logano in front Matt DiBenedetto with him now Kyle Busch afford to lead Toyota side by side then Suarez Almirola and Blaney in four is Kurt Busch is the first Chevrolet his number one in sixth Joey Logano talking about leading here at the end of the race and what what you have to do it's important to be up front for one you know you're able to control the field a little bit get the field where you want it to be for this kind of bottom we're trying to sing a final note or try to get them to run there you can control that as a leader and it's also a safer place to be when there are 15 left and you're sitting down 10 or 15 you're thinking man I'm in a bad place they're going to crash at some point you have to be able to get to the front very early in the race and just to maintain that track position, there's Logano, his green and white Mustang. on the outside against kyle busch his toyota on the inside observer tj majors has the help of teammate ryan blaney and stenhouse and i will give a lot of credit to joey a mtj majors because i didnt think the man is getting his money he is earning his money today but I really didn't think anyone could control these lanes at this close rate today as well as Joey Logano has so far and you have to give a lot of credit to all the information that TJ Majors is putting out.
Suárez is coming on the outside he has a race Logano has won three of the last seven races here he must be pretty good Suárez and DiBenedetto went all the way up side by side with Paul Menard and then they kind of stalled with Suárez remember he was there in the top three or top four and it looked like a move had been made and he took the shovel to the outside lane a little further back but I think he has a race car side to him that could work his way back up there oh we got brothers here going hand in hand elbow with Kurt Busch he's going to take his brother Kyle three wide well that's his training that could count for Kurt a while back so it's payback and Kurt now has the help of the number nine and 88 Chevrolet from chase Elliott and Alex Bowman and unfortunately you saw there 10 from aric almirola he had no help when he went to the I was stuck in that outside lane and drifting towards Suarez so Larry Mack 12 laps to go good Mike in the eight race from the Daytona 500 we've only had 18 cautionary flags in the final stage, but you know what this is Talladega and in the last 10 spring races at Talladega last lap caution average 181 seven laps to go and in seven times has it happened in the last ten laps 14 total overtimes at Talladega all time did you sign Ryan Blaney trying to keep that car going straight as Mark Church jr.
He was giving it a push, Blaney, it took him forever to control it, but I never saw anyone but Rick with that runaway car. to the outside to block worked well for Logano for Blaney not so much but for me when we talk about warnings coming in seven to go that's what's going to come from someone blocking that big run and there's just going to be too much contact with the rear bumper what is this other light pink? it's a big shot igniting here a big shot a big shot here's the 12 car it gets so out of shape I don't know how he saved that car look at it still moving and I know it home look at me look how it went believe me that he was older, oh he was just looking through the windshield from that other angle and you could see his hands, he has white gloves on and they were going a lot.
This is Ryan. Blaney's back up to 11th but here he comes and who he's up against against 19th now he's up against Martin's bumper but look how it works they keep returning the favors just look at him look through the windshield these torques when we get a chance . um, you see those gloves moving, that guy's busy there, man, nine to go, this is what you get paid for, then you come to Talladega, these last ten laps, this is where you make your money, now you know how much those first hundred 78 laps. pays nothing and that guy sitting in second is already off to a great start this season with a few wins he hasn't done well on super tracks especially here at Talladega but he has one win since 2008 well you've got two guys right here 20th, 22nd and 18th all got victories, the third one is desperate, he knows that this is an opportunity, he doesn't want to let it slip away.
I think a year ago in this race our polesitter Austin Dillon was back in the top ten, top five, Ford's, Toyota's, Chevrolet's. put everything in position Kyle Busch knows what he wants to do right the manufacturer that is best aligned right now is Chevy they have three cars in line one the nine in the 88 positions three four five I think it's going to take a little more than that, but as you saw there, the 18 Kyle Busch, if he's able to get to the rear bumper of the 22 Logano and push it like that, that means he'll be able to be next to him at some point and look at him, guys, this is Joey Logano, look at him, he's looking behind me seven to go there you know what i call it and sit on the hot stove and pee in ice cold water baby i tell you colonel chris butcher and him. is tagged by DiBenedetto Truex on it and also rookie Justin Haley's 77 right at the 19 truck sign caught on this Larry that trend was no one's friend. so all day good to see him climb chris butcher took a big hit and there's haley hey his rookie race was ruined that's a hard way to end with seven laps to go good to see chris beuscher climb damage riding these cars Sorry, that's one of the security workers talking to him.
He's lowered the window netting and that's a signal to the security team that he's okay. in a hurry and here is chris coming out prosperous driver from texas ok but that car took a brutal hit and martin truitt is a Wampus heavy coming onto pit road yeah after getting wrapped up in that one so Coming out of turn number two, Butcher is third. on the outside I think amirola's 10 car has a good run behind Chris Buescher almost tries to make three wide right there butcher makes a little contact right there and just spins 37 boy where to go.
Truex had nowhere to go. very happy to see the 37 car was left on the ground when the 95 hit it yeah a big hit from Haley on the 77 Wow here's another look and we'll see Almirola on the 10 and Chris Buescher on this 37 like this that Amarula thought of going three wide. that door was closed able to see the contents but i know i mean the way the car turned so abruptly you know the contents was in that Wow look at this amazing corey lajoie saw just thread the needle and go through it you're with daniel suarez boy what an impact that is i mean think about that what a 3,400lbs of metal flying through the air like it was a little toy 200 miles in there martin truex trying to avoid it and almost went through it and then justin haley didn't has nowhere to go Don't see Suarez just screeching through there lots of carbon fiber on the back right after those Goods deck lids all the drivers have gotten out of their cars under their own power and the cars have stopped with six laps to go.
Four cars involved in this one. it looks like only truex can continue and this was all the lead lap cars everyone had a chance to win oh yes its last as of now sir they had both been in the thick of things and heylia he was having a great run before. today and it ends like this and I thought it was interesting that we ask Larry what the trends were and I thought what Larry said seven to go seven to go and the accident happened out of money. I know somebody that's happy that that caution came when it did it's Brad Keselowski and Erik Jones yeah able to catch up you saw Todd Gordon crew chief Joey Logano he's the leader of the race as they stopped with six to go from Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse so now Keselowski who was more than half a lap behind the leading pack looks like he will be one of 24 to get to 25 as David Ragan should be the go-ahead car 25 cars back when we resume so we're going to see Shannon Jamie and Bobby thanks a lot Mike now I think DW said he was expecting a caution on lap 7 so we're all looking at that and he was here and of course we have it, so the question was that the big one, what do you guys think?
However, oh, I don't think so. I think you'll see people try the tandem now and push and we've seen all day that has resulted in the cars getting loose and they're going to be more aggressive at the end of this and they've been all day yeah catching up , they're going to be pushing, pushing, pushing and manufacturers are out the window, it's all gone now, we're just going to push, okay, that's my question, we've seen manufacturers work. good together so far today kyle busch is the only toyota in the top 20 what does that mean to you? Kyle Busch doesn't care what manufacturers back him and at this point in the race I think that deal is off I really hope you have to help whoever's in front of you and you'll help whoever you think will benefit you the most at the end of this, although we already said that the manufacturers sat down and said not to push another manufacturer to the wind. you can't line up now though whoever's in front of you or whoever's behind you have worked together up to this point but now in this bet six laps to go or four or five laps to go is what's going to be.
Joey Logano has really done an excellent job controlling the lanes so far or towards the end of this race, can he continue that? I think so. he can go he can call that car he could keep the cars behind him he does such a phenomenal job his car doesn't seem like it handles very well but he keeps everyone in there real quick yeah i mean when i look at joey logano it's not just him i look at to your spotter TJ majors those guys communicate back and forth Joey moving the car TJ saying what race is coming up they've done a really good job today it's been a lot of fun watching him defend the races we said they couldn't defend earlier today so he's It's been great, it's been all over the place, let's talk for a second about Kurt Busch, we know he's been in the mix.
Lots of credit to what a great Super Speedway race plate that he is. What are they going to see in it? Well, I think Kurt, as we talked about a while ago, is a very good Super Speedway racer, he has been able to win at these tracks, he knows it. how to do it and i look at him as he is he's in a position right now he's just been kind of quiet he sits there now he's been inside you don't really hear much from him but i think he's definitely going yeah the inside lane is a safe lane in this moment.
It looks like Kurt Busch, although I think he only won one race with plate, but he's one of the best plate runners of our era. There are a lot of aggressive drivers in the top five. ten right now Mike and you know all bets are off as we get to these last few laps that's right Shannon Kurt has plenty of second place finishes at Daytona and Talladega helping his teammates to victory but he's on his own right now, this is the plan they have. let's light thecars, bring them around open pit road for a quick yellow, which means all the cars leading the lap and the cars back down can stop at the same time Martin Truex's crew will be back to work as soon as the yellow and the cars moved from the backstretch and when they come off pit road and past the flag stand they will be given one to go and they will race so jeff you said you want tires at every caution what do you looks like this, well if you're Brad?
Keselowski, if you're a Jones, some of those guys that don't really have much to lose that are further back, will come and get tires, but those guys up front, yeah, now my crew chief has stepped in and I need track position . and i'm not willing to go in and buy tires so mike who are the most aggressive drivers you know about the front three joey logano kyle busch is dan house is a and even kurt busch i mean the four guys up there that will serve on all it takes to win this race, so Larry, what's your position on whether or not you have tires?
How many cars from the leader at the back hold up well where we have to prefer is the fact that the new tires might not make you run? faster they just let the driver maneuver the car they're going to drive a little better when I look right now Mike we've got about 24 drivers still on the lead lap I'm looking somewhere around Almirola Larson Blaney 10th 11th 12th maybe even us inviting them I think the limit is if I'm back in that area or back safe to Jeff and Darryl's point I'll come get me four new tires yeah so Larry says 13 where is the cut off line for who is is out?
Jeff huh Darrell I think you need to get closer to 47 swim till eighth maybe oh really that maybe so I think from then on maybe but I'm just telling you the one thing I think that tires you out as we've seen what amazing races the close rate if you had four tires and a ton of grip you could use that close rate to your advantage find a hole and headshot now i'm gonna say out of the ten first maybe 11th in the back I'm going to, I'm thinking an art in the back sixth in the back because there's a lot of drivers up there that have a chance to make the playoffs to win, yeah, this is the spot if I'm in six though I'm thinking four of them are probably going to crash before we get back yeah I think you look pre see they are in an eighth in the 47 car which is a great race for he.
He wants to try to stay there if he could if he could. could finish eighth I think you think he had a great day and I think you go in and roll it's a game of dice maybe I go in I have four tires we have problems in the hole maybe I come in and I have four tires when we start 15 so I think you have to stay and if you come you don't know if others behind you will come it's not a guarantee they might not be okay I'm thinking back to October 2000 when Dale Earnhardt with the help of Kenny Wallace made it all the way to the front and won this my friend agrees with me says thanks DW I said stay out so I think Ryan Preece will do a good job and thanks Ted and y'all too it's your team for the stickers as we can appreciate if they didn't bring enough for you here today but they promised you something now when you have a bump in the draft, how does it feel to see Joey Logano from a great angle, what is all this?
This is what I loved, that's Joey. I don't know if there's a switch or something he was going to hit on the dash but he saw he looked in the mirror and saw the car coming and what did he put both hands on the wheel and hold it clear then once he got hit it's You're just holding on tight after that. I never forget what AJ said. his pens on you then all the right repairs underway on his ex's car since we're back under yellow now saturday big doubleheader for you in fs1 a historic rivalry cards fight the cubs and then chris davis leaves the a's against the Pirates it all starts for Eastern on FS 1 and on the Fox Sports app you know we have to wait we have to start wearing those heart monitors up here ok the pits will open up all drivers are eligible to get into pits and when they get to the line it will be one to go let's see how many stay out and see if any of us called this right not that it matters Yeah sure I'm going with Larry he seems to know a lot more about it than us.
There are your top five. Dress up Ryan Preece, the rookie. There are 8 and what I'm looking at with those top five. got second from kyle busch he got four sorry with his brother kurt busch behind him okay roberts got stenhouse sorry who picked almirola because he's 10th on the card he's on i said 10th in the back i said i guess that you didn't I know Jeff gets the win well we'll see who gets the win yeah and they're putting right sides on Almirola's scar. I'm going down and I'll get tired. just see Ty Dillon putting tires four of them heard you yeah if you go pin it you'll get tired you might be looking ahead I don't know it will do you a lot of good now there will be 25 cars up front lap, so these cars will start around row 8 in the back, let's go to the spotlight and Vince, hey, Chris Buescher has been checked and cleared.
What happened? good good position there with just a handful of laps to go and you know our Tide Pods Camaro was pretty good it just turned right I mean we got hit hard Nova just turned it right on the outside fence so he wrecked one racing car and wrecked several. race cars are so typical of these tracks that it gets frustrating every time you get to these places and something like that during the race and it's not much fun I'm glad you're okay Mike thanks because all 13 cars stayed on the track and they didn't pit the first car to stop in the running order would be Ryan Newman so from Newman Almirola down is the cut off line thirteen stayed out so Newman Almirola Dylan Suarez can you win it from there with tires? no it's going to have so few laps to go I just don't know if you can or not Kyle Busch will restart on the front row we've got about 20 laps right everyone in the top ten except all 21 wow that's a big advantage could be here we go we'll be green with four laps to go Logano and Boris Stenhouse on Busch now Boman Menard and Dylan priests and Larsen the tuptim oh yeah it's about who gives the best push and which line is the most organized right now, best drive comes from stenhouse 17 she's going to get hung up curt drove under mental jerk pick it up hung up i'm thinking that's probably good news for a cheer the 20 Barrett Jones on the rear bumper and the 3 Austin Dillon Kurt Busch wasting no time how did Kurt Busch get to the inside or just Stenhouse he just got it out of the way sooo Stenhouse on top Chevy lined up a lot behind Logano that goes upstairs and with him dude opens the door to chase Elliott in she has teammate Alex Bowman push he's going to take the lead here I think this can really pay off for these guys we know what they can do We've seen them do it. early today free to go chase Elliott up front pretty optimistic we're going to make it to the white flag but we can three to go Meccano on the outside Kurt Busch behind him then Almirola Chevy is on the bottom where they're slicing and dicing I know in there I see a lot oh we got Erik Jones's 20 circling the pad out of harm's way no caution no he kept things straight he kept going if that's one less car to fight for the win Where do you have it. got 19th got his teammate running 2nd and look who runs 3rd precent in 47 oppressive car two rookies really know the story yeah here for Chevy it's up front Logano trying to make something happen on the outside in that green car you got to go down there put Grafton aside a little bit I don't think he has enough to get up right now see Stenhouse jumping around that's going to slow the momentum of that Lane that Logano is leading but hey Stenhouse goes up and Logano goes up with them and put two Fords trying to get to the front that's absolutely the best Chase Elliott could have asked for right there I think it's going to take one more lap to organize that outside lane you can't do it I just don't see it's happening in nine cars in the driver so hits the wall, but they took the white flag sponsored by a credit bank under Stenhouse green. crashes caution is off the tab Lehman hit the inside wall for the 42 Larson Kyle Larson Jeffrey Earnhardt badly damaged and william byron man on the last lap which was really scary seeing that 42 floating in the air as it impacted the interior good these three dark chevy drivers did the job orderly together and with the checkered flag chasing elliott has brought the elliott name back to victory lane at talladega chevy one two three four we need it they did so bad kyle larson is out and that's good to see his rocky season continue fourth career win for chase Elliott all in his last 25 races he is the sixth rhymer to win in 2019 and the first Chevrolet to go to Victory Lane this year what a tough fall for Kyle Larson and that was after a really hard front nose smack into the inside wall just won't stop David Ragan who had a great run getting into the support vehicle after going out and William Byron with serious damage to his Camaro so at the time of caution they chase Elliott by the distance of a car over teammate Alex Bowman and rookie Ryan Preece and rookie Daniel Hamrick Chevrolet the top four with Joey Logano fifth for Ford and Kyle Busch ninth for Toyota going down a bit lower in the 62 car Brendan Gaughan finished 10th great race for part time Martin time Cup driver Lajoie 11th Corey Lajoie Jeffrey Earnhardt sliding into the inside barrier quite a hard hit there well as we know at the end of the day chevrolet met all the team owners and crew chiefs yesterday and said work together message alert deliver a well laid out plan and i bet you'll see them do that a lot more the rest of the year at least silver these big supers speedways today's win for chase Elliott was driven by Sunoco Sunoco is driving wins all season the Gustafson crew chief has a big smile on his face he knows how hard it is to win these races haha there's a spectacle of smoke and i know this is ernhardt country but today it could be elliott country.
He's led a lot of laps, he won the race, well we're a little over a hundred miles west of Atlanta so this is our heart and Elliott country. His father was a fan favorite and a winner here and now. chase elliott you heard it on the radio how important this win was for this team to chevrolet for chase elliott chevrolet waited since last october for their last win and they did it in an exciting way i'll wait for chase to take his helmet off chase the phantom sat for a long time this thank you what a day just a big thank you to all of our partners my team Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet obviously a lot of teamwork done today big thanks to Mountain Dew Little Caesars Napa all of our partners for making this happen but you guys up there really want that happen thank you shea talked to you and your kerchief this morning and they talked about the chevrolet meeting and alan gustafson said something was different this time let's make it work how important it was i was huge today you know we had a plan and we executed it very good obviously it could have gone both ways but you know luckily everyone stayed together and stayed the course and had some help on the last lap with a caution but i just appreciate all the support rance is amazing as they like the Stuntman, they're close to home for me so it feels a bit like a home race, thanks guys, chase Elliott, Georgia guy wins at Talladega. execution of sticking to the plan yes there was no plan coming out of turn four but unfortunately we didn't get there before the caution came out so just a big prop to Chevrolet and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports they brought great race cars here we had a great Chevy across the country from the moment we unloaded and showed a lot of speed we all stuck to our plans and executed very well so congratulations to everyone back home at HMS and then to the engine shop and everyone the ones that make this deal possible so if the caution didn't come out you were going to try to make a move yeah i'm not going to let him win alright i tried you know i knew i could get to his quarter panel i was pretty sure that could get to him. a quarter panel through the trioval and who knows who will get to the line first at that point.
I thought I could do it but it depends on the car behind you where I go and it would have beenfun to try, but happy for the chase and the nation. love axalta and everyone to let us keep doing this, glad we turned the season around, it's been a tough start to the year and these guys deserve a lot better than the finishes they've had so coming home second is not its a win but its going in the right direction great momentum builder indeed Mike thank you Matt William Byron drove that damaged car to the start/finish line and we watched him get out and get to the ambulance on his own media, always good news.
Well we're going to show you what happened on the last lap when Chase Elliott wrecks the place on the way to Victory Lane so this is drifting to the back right away oh yeah you can see it looks like the 38 goes up down the race track. he makes contact with 24 Byron and that sends up Jeffrey Earnhardt and Kyle Larson. Look at the air boy below the rear right. The 42 Wow. Strong contact with that right front. look at this once it starts flipping it looks like a feather it just doesn't stop it looks like Ragan's 38 it just doesn't know if it lets go or something you know obviously the car wasn't on the track just sitting there he got onto the track pretty lucky there William Byron himself wasn't turned upside down when he saw the car lift off the ground and then settle back down, but that wasn't the case for Larson's 42, that's a fellow chase ride Elliott will celebrate at the fastest Speedway of the world after a wild finish in the Geico 500 there is aerial coverage of Victory Lane provided by Goodyear those who live up to their names make one for themselves Goodyear the official tire of NASCAR chase one so you get 10 free boneless wings when you buy ten Monday at Hooters remember with Hooters when the chase wins you win and we verified with NASCAR that all the drivers involved in that crash on the last lap got out of their cars and are fine hey chase you got a twist mate that was incredible. i work right there congratulations hey how does it feel to get out of the car?
You've won a few races before, but winning in front of a cheering crowd like that had to feel amazing and you could have stopped Bowman if he had. went all the way yeah no I was that was one of the coolest things ever I mean this crowd was absolutely crazy I'm just glad we got to have Mountain Dew Little Caesars and Chevrolet a lot of work from team chevrolet done today hendrick power was amazing and napa kelley blue book valene and whistles to all the people that make this deal work but it was a really crazy day well executed on behalf of team chevrolet and proud of that effort and yeah that last one back would go crazy, I don't know. exactly what Alex had up his sleeve.
I know it came with something, but yeah, we're going to accept it and we just had an amazing feeling and the crowd was intense so we're proud to pull it off. Congratulations, good job, friend, yes, friend. Congratulations, I appreciate it. and you know what that means in dawsonville georgia means the siren is blaring in the pool hall in dawsonville like it used to do for his father tonight should be a big party so let's go back to the last one actually i wanted to go now, this is after they took the white flag here, you just saw David Ragan, he just came onto the track, he lost, he lost some control. car maybe what the front got into whose Byron's 24 ID started this whole mess and sent out Larson's 42 had Wallen flip just a wicked Sidewinder roll it's amazing kyle is now with Vince Welch and there Kyle having a little chat with Ricky Stenhouse from the moment Byron hit you on the side of the door until you came to stop what was going through your mind, Kyle, well initially I thought I was going to hit the inside wall pretty hard and then right before I get there I felt it lift up and I just waited for it to settle and then it started spinning and it was probably the longest spin I've ever had so I haven't really seen a repeat but I didn't know if it ever stopped.
I knew I was freaking out and just hoped I wouldn't get any closer to the catch fence so yeah it was just a little scary but luckily I'm ok so thanks to you fabulous shop at Chip Nasser Racing for building quality cars races sure it was like i said it was scary so i'm thankful i'm ok you know hats off for chasing it it was a good day for chevy we got up we all planned to work together and you a chevy won most of the stages and the race so it was great you thought I might have a chance to win there but it just didn't work out as soon as we got out of the restart zone we were in a bad place and then I was at the bottom back and when you're like this and everyone's four or five wide you know something crazy is going to happen so in the middle but i had a good time today i just wish we would have been on the right side for once this year qualifying race winners in yellow and chasing Elliott to that list clinched in playoffs pretty much Kevin Harvick had a tough day today Kurt Busch was in it Ryan Blaney tagging the pack and just like Aric Almirola there were always some surprises out of Daytona and Talladega here's one of today's best day awesome from Matt by the modified racer backing that top 10 finish in the Daytona 500 with a first three your first time here at Talladega you know it was awesome just been here one more time and that was an Xfinity car in 2016 and I was in third place with three to go and I went through the suction hole and I blushed so I wasn't going to do that today and ultimately it was a situation perfect for Chevy there at that on that restart to be able to line up and push each other and really not give any of the other manufacturers a chance to outdo us big day for kroger big day for ktg and hopefully we can use this drive to move forward and what is the Kroger slogan that they are delivering. the goods you certainly did that good job today by ryan preece finishing third and you know what i like manufacturing manufactures manufactured goods i thought that was very interesting action all day long mike i love the racing i watched here i am glad the drivers be safe there at the end also interesting and exciting is the pool hall in Dawsonville yes this is Talladega
