Is the scene of the big car accident ready? Let's do it. What if instead of oppressing the camera, the camera didn't crash? Why would you want to ruin something that looks so good? Because you're a stuntman and this is an action movie. But hey, if you want action, how about I pull into the Thai parking spot over there using before Cameron, just gobsmacked, gets zero percent P R for three six months on a brand new twenty-nine-nineteen Toyota Camry Toyota? Just pure joy. There is no relief, just joy, a happy face and a name that is NASCAR inappropriately. For the first time in history, a pickup truck sets the pace in the great American race. This is the new Chevy Silverado in the two-time champion Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt Jr is enjoying this. An honor like that ceremonial first pitch, but above all for the great American race to be in the pace car, in this case, a Pasta Truck. This isn't your grandfather's NASCAR with a total of five hundred first wins in his career. It was for seven drivers. Imagine the first time you win a race. You win this one. Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Gordon, and Mike Joy. Gentlemen, start talking. Thank you, Chris, for all the fun we've had. And for his unique perspective on the sixty-first running of the Great American race, a tradition of overly close finishes. It's been an interesting speed week. We have had crashes and some have followed the leader.
But if the drivers pass a reluctant TTO, maybe Darryl, that's because of what happened last Sunday. Here in the class. What makes restrictor plate racing so interesting and so much fun to watch is how much we race on the back. But if something goes wrong, here is the result. This is what is happening. Seventeen cars pile up. Big Palla big mess. But there is a way to do it, right? Yeah, and then we saw Joy Lugano and his qualifying race. Now Joey had figured it out. I've been thinking about this move for a few laps, but what you want to do is run the car in front of you, see the joy of it ten times from now.
The car gets a little draft right there. Now he is going to shoot at the back of the track. He has twelve, his partner from behind and giving him a push. And that's what drives him in front of car fourteen and into Victory Lane, the wind that's doing it the right way and everyone's been going to school in that direction. Having the youngest front for any Daytona five hundred and sixty one year history and right behind them. Twenty nine starts and two wins. Two very experienced veterans. Jeff Yes, Mike. I mean, to run the perfect Daytona 500.
Preparation is needed. It takes skill, a little good old-fashioned luck, and experience goes a long way. Well, let's take a look at that front row. There are only three starts between these two young guys in the previous Daytona 500, you go to those two rows behind them, forty-seven starts, between them. A lot of experience. I'm looking for these veterans to jump in and get these little kids to school right off the bat in this Daytona 500. Veterans beware. Pretty good students. Be careful what you teach him. They may show you why they were the best in their class.

Kevin Harvick two thousand and seven winner. Joey Logano, one in twenty-five, and he's the champion of Siri. Ricky Stenhouse Jr one here on july twenty seventeen. And Clint Boyer, looking for his first win at Daytona that could be achieved by Paul Menard and twenty-one. Car could become the driver of six different to win five for Wood Rose and Erica Merola.
Remember, he was leading this race. The war reached the white flag last year. Max Benedetto. It's a new team. I expect great things from him. Denny Hamlin. He has the closest margin of victory in history. Martin Truex Jr. is new to Gibbs' team, but he doesn't beat you to it. And then you have Kurt Busch new to the NASA team, but he could be a factor. Well butterflies. Let's see if we can hear them. Well Byron, this is Jeff with Fox Sports Boots.
You got me? Yes, I did not forget anyone. You're leading the five hundredtwo Daytona green. Here. Tell us. I mean, how is this we've been? What was it like waking up this morning? No, uh, this morning, knowing that you're going to lead this field to green, I have a feeling I have a great race team. Obviously, make this happen and we're going to ruin the week. So we have goals met today. Things we want to tick off, and I have to get to the bottom three as fast as Racecar does. Well, you have a lot of veterans behind you.
I was wondering what a young man like you has in store for these veterans. How are you going to show him that the young man could do it today? Yeah, uh, different last year. But this year, I really don't care what they think. I'm going to do whatever it takes for us to win. And what happened. Well that's amazing. We hope to have a great one ready to race here at Daytona. But first, let's take a look at Toyota's growing legacy. And what next with Toyota? Speed to green from the first Signature Cup Series win in two thousand, celebrating not one but two Cup championships with Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr by capturing the great American rights to twenty-sixteen.
Toyota has done more at our school. What is beyond the next turn? My greatest moment with nineteen Toyota stores. Come on. Time for breaking stories from Pit Road and our all-star cast of reporters getting started. Uh, we'll take the square in the lower left corner. Matt Yocum. Captain Roger Pants gets two victories and a total of five hundred two different pilots. Ryan Blaney would love to do a third. He was always raised as an old soul. He led one hundred and eighteen laps. Last year he had the best car until the accident, but he has learned a lot.
He hopes to capitalize on those lessons with his first win in the 500. Regan Smith. Well, Jimmy Johnson, for the first time in seventeen years, has a new crew chief in the pit box and a new sponsor on the race car. So far, so good. He won the class last week and sent a fast race car all week, he told me as he got in the car. They built some extra downforce into this race car for today's race. In anticipation of these temperatures, look to keep it strong as you try to get your third Daytona 500. Victory fits.
Two years ago, Kyle Larson had the lead going into the final lap of the Daytona 500 and ran out of gas. If he wants to win today, he's going to have to overcome another losing streak. When his team arrived at the track today, they found oil under the car. They had to change the transmission. That means Larson will start from the tail. He says the key is not to lose that lead group early in the race. The worst, first, and even toughest proposal for Kyle Larson today. Jamie Well, Kyle Busch is one about everything there is to win in races except the Daytona 500.
He so badly wants this one to come home in his Kyle Busch Motor Sports has a giant trophy case. Well, right in the middle. There is an open gap. He is waiting for this trophy today. Five hundred tone. Kyle has already been involved in a couple of issues this week. He qualified back. But as always, you can never rule out eighteen. very max Yes, Jamie's pilots in his spotters will formulate strategy throughout the day, but a lot can go down on that team. Ti slap knows the importance of staying ahead. He's already thinking about that last trip to Pit Road.
Teo, put his driver in charge of the drafting that is going on. Let's take a look at our analysis of today's race. We're going two hundred laps, five hundred miles. The stages will be sixty, sixty and eighty laps around the Checkered Pit. Highway speed. Fifty-five miles per hour. And Mike, look at that fuel window. Forty-five forty-eight laps Very important. Thanks Larry. Three drivers will go to the rear. Casey Mears, Jamie McMurray and the aforementioned Kyle Larson will start at the back. The Pace Truck runs at a highway speed of sixty-five miles per hour. That's the slowest.
They'll be there all day, a thousand yards to the start line as Dale Earnhardt Jr., two-time winner of the 500, makes that sharp left turn toward Mike. Look at a hundred thousand people standing. Anticipating the start is running green flags with anyone. Speedy is building two hundred miles an hour. Byron, the assistant pole sitter, slipped in front of his teammate Alex and Chevrolet will take them to complete the first lap. Just after a couple of laps. The pressure from the stars builds up a bit. You know what kind of car you have, what shape they are in for this race.
I was waiting to see that green Sief flag. How these teammates coordinated where we saw William Byron do a great job getting in front of his teammate Alex Bowman in that outside lane, who has been preferred this week just like all four of those teammates except Ricky Stenhouse Jr. left out to form that. off lane. But I'm impressed with this inside of Lane, how he's holding up. I think this will work today. I think you'll be up there. William Byron, did twelve laps here in the July race. Two Chevys versus those three Fords with the pointers inside and Ricky Stenhouse trying to make it happen on the inside.
Max Bennett, Toya Max, number nineteen right behind him and another Remember car seventeen has been bad fast. Talladega. Here. Restrictor plate races. Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. Pretty good here. You know what he's saying right now, as always it's been a long time since we've seen him with the outside. Lane has been the best lane to enter. And Brad, the last pre-race of his, told us, I don't think that's the case today. So far, he was absolutely right. I think the weather conditions are hot. slippery That top Crew has been running a lot, a lot of rubber up there.
Try that background. The shortest path. Could your job. Ten houses that look pretty good. Stenhouse's side select Byron and it will give him a combined advantage. The last three take the lead, if only behind Benedetto. I'm really impressed with what Benedetta was doing in this '95 car. Now he is a sleeper. Right there there was a strategic move. William Byron had been running against the wall, thinking that would be what would separate him from the inner Lane. He saw Ricky Stenhouse leading that inside lane. In the background. He went down the side, drag him through the corner, which is the fastest lane, says Denny Hamlin, the one with the most cars right now.
He would say right now they're going to be the most aggressive, and we've just seen a nice push format from Benedetto to try to push Ricky Stenhouse Jr into the lead, push hard in their twenty-two-car board. Missing. I was really on the back of that Alex Bowman who was already being drafted. sucker ho I got off his teammate Jimmy Johnson, cutting some slack. But he looks at the cafe at the front of the field that will fill these cars. It blows a two-hundred-mile-an-hour hole in that wall of wind. Olive Branch dirt track racer from Mississippi has become a super drag racer Ricky Stenhouse when he's so good at this type of track in Mike right now I think these guys were probably a little confused thinking about William Barnett.
That outer gland has been the way to go. But what's happening just happened to me, Ricky Stenhouse Jr told me this morning. This is the best Daytona 500 car he's ever owned, even better than last year's car. But the biggest difference, he said he knows what to do with the card this year and where he wants to put it on the track. So far, that's pretty self-evident, since he's not at the front of the pack. He was inside, Jeff tripped him high. He now he is back. Well, what happened with Alex Bowman was he was following his teammate, trying to try a scythe and Joey Logano just did a great job coming off the right side of him.
I don't think Alex Bowman really thought anyone was going to be that aggressive on the outside this early in the race. But they got him. A nice surprise. Matt DiBenedetto leaves. He changed teams this year. He moved into the Levine family racing, he said. We go places. He goes to the head. vince Incredible, Mike. Two weeks ago this race car didn't even have all the bits and pieces to run. They couldn't even start the car. They didn't have enough parts. This team has been a rebuild since last season. The driver knew the crew chief, different combinations of spotters and everything has been done from scratch.
And right now it is paying off. He is leading the Daytona Five Hundred. Mike Wheeler, who won the Daytona 500 with Denny Hamlin, twenty-six, the new crew chief. First time that Benedetto literally led a lap in the 500s. It amazes me too much that some of the more experienced drivers like you see Kevin Harvick in there, maybe even Joy Logano, that these young guys have their time in the sun. He lied a bit. How about third place Martin Truex in nineteen Mike? This is the warmest day of speed weeks right before the car went off the grid.
True Ex tilted her helmet forward and the cooling hose that goes inside the removed helmet is too short. They quickly fixed it by a length and that, giving it enough free space, so that it didn't have any problems. He dodged the bullet early. More clearance. Clarence to buy two. Here they come. He watches over Julien's path. I saw him do that move on Alex Bowman a few laps ago. He almost made the same move through William Byron's will. He is not satisfied with being in the third row right now. Guys, I'm not surprised to see two for two for two, because if you go back to the gate races on Thursday night in class, we were all worried it was just one miss.
There were twenty fields of cars. This is a field of forty cars. I think we're going to see a lot of this throughout the day. I think you're right twenty inside only twenty outside only. So I think the weather has a lot to do with it. And I think these guys have been studying these careers. They ran, and I think the weather made a big difference today. I think inside is the way to go. At this time it may not be your friend's at the moment, driving with change salad here quite back, I really think twenty-six places tell me that after some of the moves, we saw him trying to get to the duel.
You're thinking five hundred miles. I need to get there. It's not about getting to the front right now. As Danny was the same way. Billy wouldn't risk it, he wouldn't put his car in jeopardy. And then he fixes himself up and he's there in some sort of Chase Elliott run. Toyota one, too, on the inside for Chevrolet on the outside. And when we get to lap eleven, Joe Gibbs, the teams will come to the top of the pit wall and say hello to J. D. Gibbs. Jokes. Zelda recently passed away from a longstanding neurological disease. He was the co-founder, Joe Gibbs Racing, president of the company, a racer himself in a former high school and college football player who wore the number eleven.
So, on lap eleven, we salute him and his legacy. Coach Gibbs continues, but JD smiles and warms. He still felt me in this whole area of the garage. He's someone we really miss, he really is a board member. Sure. One of those Toyotas that has an alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing is out front. Wow. Good. He is corny. The bacon fries are tremendous. I know crispy bacon is the best thing to happen to French fries. That? Just some fresh fries Oh, McDonald's world famous with make or is it the crispy bacon. Since fries have some street cred with a whole new audience.
I'm going to let Bacon think that was because I couldn't hear you baking. Big innovation and bacon. They MacDonalds classics with bacon. For a limited time only the best thing to come is the Two Bacon Classics. Try it yourself and decide. Together. Let's huff okay, when you have COPD it can be hard to breathe. So my doctor said Simple Court can help you breathe easier starting in five minutes. It does not replace a rescue inhaler for sudden symptoms. Symbicort could mean a day with better breathing. Ask your doctor if the simple cut is right for you. If you can't afford your medicine, AstraZeneca may be able to help you a bit. A bit of Memphis and National to Motown In my soul, I don't love good or bad. Bucks the new Chevy Silverado. It's a little bit of country, and it's a little bit of rock and roll. They went through the trial.
Joey Logano went up high in that standing hole earlier. William Byron in the middle didn't help Alex's timing. His teammate will let him into the lane. It's just a matter of time, those two guys we talked about to open the show, they're young and very experienced, veterans and those strong Fords behind them who want to shuffle it. He's doing all he can write on the rear bumper,Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Trying to give him a good push. But when he came up to the rear bumper of him, he just allowed Joey Logano to have a good run and pick today off of Mike, you know what?
We call it the home of fools because he sucks you to the rear when you take a little hit like Lane, Friendless, Friendless. Well, now it's the bass. Do they intend to Pit, or is it just the current fast route? Well Mike, I think we may see some drivers hit pit road. Remember the fuel window between forty-six and forty-eight laps? This first stage is exactly the same length as the gate stroke. sixty laps. So Pit now you could go to the end of stage number one. I wouldn't be a bit surprised over the next few laps to see some drivers hit pit road.
Here they come. Lots of those fast Fords that come up on Pit street. Regan Kevin Harvick sees the fortieth spot first in the pits. Stalin Rodney Childress says that he likes that Stahl is just fuel for Kevin Harvick. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Pit They wanted Pit Coming. Come on. But he couldn't get in at the bottom. Joey Logano relaxes in his box. They're going to top it off with fuel. The gas man, Chris Conklin on. Jordan says you're gone. Kyle Larson was a driver I saw that took tires. host castle. He was the only Chevrolet that faced all those tables to say.
Did you notice anything in the group? I went in there. Oh Denny Hamlin. Shoot. Turn four. Just keep it there. I don't know if he was trying to get to Pit Road. Possibly. You have a little bump. Check it out. Anything else. I'm snooping up front here. Four others that didn't make it to Pit Road. I don't know if he grabbed me outside and Suárez heard a shot. Go. I see Denny Hamlin's three Wides in the middle so close. Cody. Where was he anywhere? Yes, for Bush, the car that twists in his rearview mirror, the forty-one he drove last year.
Now it's a Can Asi chip racing for Jamie McMurray, The Three Boys. One, two, three Get ready, some kind of Pit robot. All in different cars this year, new equipment. Riding with Ryan Priests. Fox Vice Camp Reagan. Bush is going to pit in the number one car. It will be gas only for Kurt, just like all the other cars. Be Sean's apartments, forty-one gas just the can stuck in the back, but he got out just in time. Bubble Max BenedettoWallace, Washington. It started when I was sixteen. Now up front. Alright guys, we're seeing a lot of drivers who aren't stopping.
I think that another strategy with the time that we have this large group would be to divide this stage in half, thirty and thirty. That way you get new tires to split the segment up to thirty thirty laps. So I think that could be the strategy with this big group that stayed there. This great group. If you just take the rough draft of this group and speed versus knows, you've just gotten here. They're just going to keep winning and really walk away. Let's take a look at Daniel Suárez. Small problem stone pit here. Well, I didn't take out that team.
Irvan South Pit would have been a fine penalty here. Korean joy, man. That would be good for his face. That'll leave a scar on the hood of that car in Lovejoy. The caution is, I don't think those guys made it to Pit Road before Pit Road was closed. Ryan Priest Chris Buscher, his teammate Bubble Wallace Coming to Pit Road get a patch that reads through a wall. But Ty Dillon, who brakes in the box, look what that's called First Booking. No kilo strategy, right? When you think you've got it all figured out, we have a form of caution.
It kind of muddies the water. And Larry, as you know, this now just played into the hands of all those guys who came in because they've already done it in there. Stop there in good shape. They're going to stay out there. All these cars had committee and we are going to lose valuable track position. Yeah, and the reason you pit is the reason you pit early. It's you? In the perfect world, you expect that to happen. Carla joins the team, she had a lot of fun putting her face on that Mustang that is going to leave its mark.
She just wiped the smile off that face. Look forward to an open pit road with twenty-one complete laps here at Daytona. Let's look at today's sports performance track facts. A diminutive London was the first to win the Daytona 510 for the Brothers in 1963. Ford's most recent winner is Kurt Busch, twenty seventeen. Ford has fifteen Daytona victories, five hundred and a new suit of clothing this year. Mustang Body NASCAR Series, 1963. Driving time and relay for Marvin Pants. Martin was in a practice accident in a Ferrari. I think he was. The Wood Brothers ran five miles called Short, but ran the entire race and never changed tires.
The best Pit Crew in the world. All they did was pour gas and drive away. So, a word of caution to Corey Lovejoy here with twenty-two laps in complete contrast to the drivers' Daytona 500 last year. Coming in early and often I think that's why there's a bit more of a sporty factor here on the last lap before turn three. Austin distributing ten Yellow. Only Harding of that team open this time and talkative. I remember that story. Marvin Pants rushed to the aid of that burning car along with Ernie Geoghan and four others pulled the driver to safety.
He eventually received the Carnegie Medal of Freedom and he's right. From his hospital bed. He asked Linwood to put Tiny One in the car. What brothers made London a race of five hundred. Someone problem quickly. Guys change tires. They just put gas. These guys are going to have a chance. Put four new tires on it. Be a plus here for these cats. I think there are a lot of guys that will be at the front of the track. He's still going to be interested. It's a busy place. Car Ninety Five Max Benedetto led fifteen laps, he hoped he would have pitted sooner but he was in no condition to come down and into pit lane when they wanted the pit car to be fine.
No gas issues and four times Jamie Kyle Busch in eighteen. But he needs more grip for us to get those times. So it lasts a little longer. You want to be one of them fit. But it's four wheels. Man Siegel has already done the virus chassis tuning with the car too tight when he runs out of the bottom. But it is also a way of freeing up. The weather is certainly being a factor from the start. Here's his Sunoco's run off pit road. Casey Mirrors, who hasn't been in a cup car in two years, keeps getting called up to compete.
Would you come run the Daytona Five Hundred for us? We are going to have a second car. He did. He is in the lead. Victory. I have it. take it with you But I walk to their names. Do one thing themselves. Good year, Mordred. Okay, if you're not the guide dog, the scenery never changes. That's how it is. This is the sight for all other full-size trucks. And this year it's deja vu again. Because only the Ford F one fifty with the Thai strength military grade aluminum alloy body gives you the best in class. You are the best in the class.

There are the twenty-four William Byrons left outside and all is well and tidy now on Coming Pit Street. Until the cars further back square up and MacLeod tangles.
They pick up Reddick in the bleached green car which crashes into Jimmy Johnson and four CarsDirect. Really unfortunate. I'm still trying to figure out where the miscommunication is between Jimmy Johnson's forty-eight, twenty for our leader, William Byron, you would have thought they would have clashed right there. Oh my gosh, he took a big hit on the forty-eight, but that goes all the way up and into the rear bumper of the seventeener and into Stenhouse's side. Larry Mac. A lot is missing from the left rear of Jimmy Johnson's number forty-eight. What can they do? Well, it's going to be a disaster, Mike, because we've been looking at it from different camera angles.
And their biggest problem is that I don't see how the hell they're going to get gas in that car. That's the biggest. They will have to work at home. Remember, they can't replace the quarter panel under the damaged vehicle policy, but they do have to put that fuel receptacle where they can fill it up. Notice this fuller is knocked forward on the left side here, lots of damage. Larry seems to me that the dry receptacle for the fuel is still the yachts from him hanging at an odd angle. But could they feed him like this? Yeah, Mike is going to have to be supported by the beast, because that's a lot of pressure when you're trying to get that fuel involved.
Can you see it doing here? They are interesting here. That? What's it gonna be? And you saw it there. I think someone was holding me while I was trying to hook that can. What's going to be interesting with the strategy here? Remember what I said at the top of the crew chief's program strategy to get your driver up front, everyone has to pit here. I think you want four times. But don't be a bit surprised to possibly see the Cem to Tower stops. Thanks Larry. Now, to answer Jeff's question, let's listen to William Byron's team. Keep it in the seventh.
He might be coming into the pits Arriving too late to make two fingers in the Coming Pit road window. But he didn't do it by wave, so I don't think Coming. Well, they're keeping a secret. He's not going to get hit from behind. Nobody knew. So what I'm wondering about this is I think the forty-eight wanted to come with the seventeen and Pit together. But I don't know how William Byron is supposed to look. Anything that happened outside of a term for that is such a hard call to make. If you don't care how experienced you are to make that call and try to see someone stick their hand out the window behind you, that needs to be communicated among the observers and also on the road.
Yes, he was the leader of the race. They're going to take this car back if it loses fuel from that dry braking apparatus. Pit road is open for the leaders, and here they come. scold. Kevin Harvick only had one request, he said. All I want is track position for my race car and a quick pit stop. They are ninety-five. A Benedetto matinee. He has led the most laps. Take some tape or something to work on the car. I can not do this. So, Jimmy Johnson is being held at Pit Street control with the guys. A quick call from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Stretch and Brian Patty to back him up. After that car got hit, he was going to back out on the racetrack. they backed him up Service that race car. William Byron left forty-four laps today, but he starts eighteenth after a long stop.
Now ready to go. Michael McDowell in the front row. Motorsports for that team moved from Statesville, North Carolina, closer to NASCAR's hub in Charlotte for larger facilities because they expanded to a three-car team this year with Matt Tift. But here's the Glendale, Arizona native out front with Jamie McMurray on one of the trips for Spire Motor Sports slash chip basket racing a damaged car as Jamie mentioned during the broadcast and free race next week, change a suit aspired to a business suit and joins our Fox Sports NASCAR team tradition. Granted, you won't know how McDow got this advantage.
He was the one who survived going into Pit Road. I got to Pit Road before the caution came out. Did his four wheels and all the carnage that was happening around him stop? Now he is the leader. It's the first time he's driven a good five hundred straight off your racing plate. It's been a tough day for Kurt Busch. He is eleven laps off the pace, but he has done something great that we want to tell you about this season. Curtis partnered with the Veterans Ticket Foundation to form the K B Hundred Ticket Sweepstakes which Kurt is paying for and giving away one hundred tickets to every NASCAR race this season to current and former military members.
For more information, visit vet tix dot org's. There were thirty-two hundred requests for one hundred tickets to the Daytona Five Hundred, and Watkins Glen International has already stepped up and said they will add one hundred tickets to Kurt's hundred. What a great gesture. I agree. Well, maybe the thirty-four McDowells didn't cross the line before they closed the Pit road. They thought he was the leader. I know he was on Pit Road, but maybe that made it hard for him to get out just before he crossed the line. We had a couple of top ten finishesin the five hundred However, I don't think that's going to help many.
Are both Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse coming back for that reason? So make Murray actually pit. I think that latte before all that carnage happened, and that's why he's the leader. Because that's exactly what happened. He pit itl at a fifty-eight and we're looking at it right now. Michael McDowell. He didn't do the light path of the Intern Pit. He was red when he got to the line. Thanks Larry. It's green this time. Thirty-three to go. This is This is going to be a penalty for someone. I don't know who they're going to give you. I saw him unexpectedly yesterday.
When they came to like this, they were penalized. You must be too aligned on restarts. You're supposed to be there anyway, someone must have been nine o'clock away it seems. Look at the damage on the right front of that number. Forty. Jamie McMurray. Can you believe he's leading the Daytona 500? No I can not. I don't know if he's going to stay that long. I don't think you'll be wearing it very long, Mike. That's a lot of damage, and he can track pretty well, but it's hard to be on the outside. Wouldn't that be his last race here in the Daytona 500?
He has won this race before. He knows how to draft, but he has a lot of damage. That damage doesn't slow them down too much. He could stay there. You can't see the damage from the driver's seat to Mike, this race right now with just a few laps to go. Not for a while and three crazy wives. We've seen three wide open all day. What we have? three wives. So much for a single file. We better get our Benedetta while we're out. They're making a move around Lane with twelve thirty-two laps to go. It's time to go.
That's me ninety-five. That runs along the track at number ninety-five up there on highway number ninety-five first. I thought of that. The last three recent. Start without penalty. Good news for someone. This is when he gets stressful here. You feel the vice tight man. Danny Hamlin. Good side shot from the quarter panel. Jamie Murray bolts for the lead plane at half past twelve. He has the help of Menard and Joey Bush. Police. McMurray sleeping there for just a little bit. Big push from his partner Jones behind his back. But as soon as you say, no one will go there, he is one of the best in your Toyota.
Denny Hamlin, in the style of the leader. I haven't talked about Alex. Where did he come from? There he is, up for a second, right behind me. A long, long time ago, like fifty and sixty. Denny Hamlin did not win a race. Last year. He won the five hundred and sixteen, out-tricking Martin to the line by inches. A change of heart because we talked to Mike, we go with Benedetto. So, you know, there's a lot of pressure on Denny Hamlin right now. Wouldn't it be something if you go back to Victory Lane and it being the day it could be something right now take down five hundred men recovering, the man goes crazy, he moves?
Wow. Bowman was a quick move, and I don't think he's been on a restrictor plate lately. That somewhere somehow. Somehow Denny Hamlin turned Factor is pretty good on these restrictor plate tracks. These will be the last restrictor plate races in this NASCAR era. Starting in Atlanta next week. We moved with tapered space or motor pack. Things will be different, Michael. Only eighty five hundred attacks. That's probably at least two or three hundred. They are more PM and I think I've seen them all day. Chilled Temp Tracks Cool down. These cards are flying drivers that are much more aggressive.
Right now, we're seeing a lot more three-wides for top seeds, big moves, pushing each other. The tips of the track go down as you said, W and the track has a lot of grip at the moment which allows these drivers to be much more aggressive. I think now there is some urgency. We have twenty-eight point five laps to go. But he has the power of him against him because Denny Hamlin's teammate, they're two teammates, really, in the side lane. Here comes William Byron, an inside backup to his teammate Alex Bowman, twenty-four, forty-eight twenty-four. It's fast, very fast.
Could be the flames that Sam Job was carrying. Jeff Gordon exponents. by William Byron. Mike, it's a great looking race car, but I could be reviewing now for a lot of credit. That driver behind the wheel, the car. You have to be driving pretty dog it's on the highway to Bree in the back right away, and probably right on time. We catch our breath. One seventy four twenty six laps to go. First precaution of the day. There's our Fox Sports drone on the other side of the home stretch. Much of that runoff area is now paved over.
That is safe for security reasons. Those cars slide your breath away. Mercy, great shot of that full moon drone on Saturday nights on short tracks. That is a bad omen. It leads to a lot of crashing into things. I don't think it has an effect on super speed. I think you might think you might. Everyone can catch their breath. And all week long, the story has been for Joey Logano's Got Everybody whip. He has the fastest cars. Penske cars are the cars to be. Ford's will get together. Everyone will run to the front. And what is happening?
Hendricks, Chevrolets and Joe Gibbs. The Toyotas form a temporary alliance to run together in the first part of this race. Remember when Joe Gibbs started his racing team? Who was he for? For tips on how to do that? Rick Hendrick. Well, that's all getting back together today. If you had to choose a Toyota Ford or a Chevy to win this race, I couldn't choose between the three, I couldn't. But you know what? No one knows knows what goes on behind closed doors. And I have to think that the Hendrick Boys and the give boys might have gotten together at some point last night or this morning and said, Look, we've got to do something.
Who is Ford to attack? So let's work together and we will get a result. Yeah, we were sitting with thirty laps to go and I think what you said my temporary temporary I think that alliance is temporary, but they've certainly done very well so far. Okay, we're going to open Pit Road under this debris caution flag. Here it is, in the back right away. Well, Larry makes this change everything. really dead. Miguel. We have twenty-nine drivers on the lead lap and there is no way. Remember what I said at the top of the show? Track position, track position.
And that's exactly what rookie Cup crew chief Chris Gabe Hart did with Denny Hammond. He fueled Lee. Let's go last trip to Pit road. Maybe if yours says fifty or less, Yeah, come get four new tires. But you know what? For the boys up front, your bed is made. You could also pack the Pit gear. Well drivers, do you want tires or track position? Well right now. Take track position because I think it's very critical. I think, tired. That factor disappeared when the track cooled down. I think the tires on the cars are good enough to win this race, so you have to have track position.
That is the key. Joey Logano's Coming along with Ryan Priests chase Elliott Reddick six cars down the pit road at MacLeod, Kligerman to that list and still thirty cars on the lead lap. We'll take you a double wide for pit stops under caution at Daytona, are you going to lead or are you going to be led? I will be ruled by routine. We will take a different route. Oh no, I couldn't four years ago, they conquered the world. They are back. Forty drivers, Three months in advance. We have to live together for thirty-six weeks. Three. Toyota is leading Chevys by leading four. Ford is only twenty-four laps to go in the Daytona 500. Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch in front. It has been an eventful day. Do not follow the day of the leader in any way. First precaution. Corey Lovejoy, Tyra Lap twenty, then Lamp fifty. Ricky Stenhouse may or may not have played Kirk's number one. Push. Push went around Bubble Wallace, Jamie McMurray and Austin at the end of stage one on lap sixty.
Kyle Busch takes the stage win in his Toyota from Alex Bowman. Ryan Blaney for the second year in a row, the winner of stage two and then both Rick where the cars crash into Tyler Reddick and Jimmy Johnson, causing a major calamity. A one hundred and sixty lap, tearing off the left rear corner of Johnson's car. One seventy-four. Beware of debris. And here we are ready to go green for the homestretch, which could be up to twenty-three laps to the checkered flag. It could be Jeff, and I don't know how many more precautions. Thanks your way.
Think too well. They will just get more and more aggressive in the biggest race of your career. The most important race of the year. You see that trophy and the checkered flag within reach. But we all know what happens when the horses start going for local leaders Hamlin and Toyota. The first Chevy is Byron, and for the first sport is David Reagan in sixth place, who chose a sponsor for this race when he auctioned off Thief for the lead. But the bot lane has prevailed. And look at those three complete Toyotas hooked up from the inside out.
Stand Theo Cortina Boyer. Right rear. He almost made David and Reagan almost made him a great David Ragan driver, both drivers didn't cause a great record. He's very, very, very good at these restrictor plate tracks, he's actually won a couple of them, so he knows what he's doing. Derrick Jones inside. He has a woman who I think poor Tony has a problem with. Eric Jones is fading. Twenty four, we hang behind twenty there with a bunch of spots. racing surface. No fuel pressure for Eric Tones. Rest for the young driver from Michigan. Watch out for that red and white.
Twenty-one. That's the Wood Brothers' car. They won the submission five times. Call. Minard tries to make something happen, but at the moment he has no friends on the inside. I mean, those guys have been in a field at the end of the day. We talked about how William Byron was behind the twenties. They are very Jones when he had the problems of him in the third fourth position. All the way back now. Twenty fifth position. Way Talking about this all week. I've been side by side all day, but the previous races only found the top lane. Why choose twenty two go? W Well now set it up with Wow he's been a bad boy. Good week to all. Next. That car has not been very competitive.
This week, Larson was eighteen years old. There was no contact with another car like, I think he had been hanging on that thing all day. I don't know if anyone got involved or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. They just had a really nice car. Do you see what happened here? See Larson believes right in this area. Yes, that's him. I think it's a tire that started to go and it looks to me like maybe a left rear tire started to go bad. I saw tire debris behind the car as he headed into the bottom lane.
He was trying to get out of the way. have put. That happens. And what happened? He did a pretty good job. I haven't ripped that car much worse. Well, he's had a lot of practice today of almost at home who's spinning it. So that helps. Jimmie Johnson gets the free pass for the second time in a row. That left three Martians looking down. I think that's what he was doing. And you see the car start to come loose right here, turn left or turn right. Obviously he made contact with maybe someone's right front fender, the right side, because that's why those good years are over.
Left rear ended up. Probably cut into the side wall. Here comes a car we'll all get out of. William Byron among the Pitings under this warning. Miguel. Goto work on the balance of the twenty-four. You can see the adjustment handle on both sides. Significant crank on the right side. Four tires fell out of the top twenty with you documented. So great opportunity to roll the dice, get new tires and try to regroup. Eight. Day caution banner. There are only eighteen laps to go in the Daytona 500. Denny Hamlin is your leader. For NASCAR fans. Only one beer is brewed for the races.

Bush can. That's right, like the official beer of NASCAR, but it took the number four car. Cut it, scrolled the laser, pressed it down, cut it some more, and shredded it some more. He recycled it and melted it down, molded it, sprayed it and got this guy signed. Wow, that's awesome Police. I didn't break that part of forty historic collector's edition tins for an incredible forty years.
My car. You reached NASCAR fans everywhere. Greetings, NASA Official Beer is like a field in the back right away. The Daytona Beach airport in the background. McMurray, Kensi, Johnson, Burkhardt, Logano, Hamlet course, Dylan. The race record is ten, set from two thousand to twenty-eight. The leader of the race with twenty to go has only won once in the last twenty Daytona five hundred and only four ten have one Like what? What an amazing day this would be if the eleven cars that win this race in the tribute we paid to JD when he started the race, Denny Hamlin City would be one hundred and eleven dollars forever.
Happy today. Incredibly emotional day turns his back on the green with sixteen to go. It amazes me that all forty Jamie McMurray cars are out there. How can you keep up with the rear end with Fender? Wait to stay up? There are eight from Daniel Hammer, giving him a good bang on the back right away. But you have to believe that they are doing damage to that thing that kills all forty cars. It was one of our luxury practice cars. Remember Murray, Joey Logano and twenty getting a little impatient at the top trying to hit a wide triple?
Here goes again. Brian Neuman just ahead, Nothing up. Go to the middle. Nothing there. Not much rib boy. What a move by Joe Logan, his car stuck to the race. So good right there, Priest, with his almost second E idol. New man. Go there. You are clean your sheets. McMurray. That was his goal to overcome McMurray's forty with the injury. A lot of what's going on right now is somewhere to go. You just found a small opening. He's going to put that thing in there. But right now, there really aren't many rooms that offer the yellow line.
Three four. I agree, Darryl, but he has further to go and he knows it. Watch this. Kevin Harvick goes outside. He needs some takers or someone to go with him. He's not going to be able to do it himself. Up there. Double yellow line. That means no overtaking, just like on the highway. You cannot drop your left side tires below those two yellow stripes to advance your position or you will be penalized. We saw this in duels as we see now. Kevin Harvick's. Caution. Baby make contact to the left. Nine. Day Caution. Brad Keselowski of Team Penske with thirteen to go.
Jamie, Brad have left frontal damage before but thought they cleared it up. And now he said, I don't have a starter. You see him moving his hands. So he's stuck there now. I can't get that car back on to get back to the pits. Another one of our previous champions who has never won this race before. But Larry's favorites with the Elektronik engine management systems on these cars can recycle the entire system and then try to reset it. You can, but it's a little more difficult. Easier said than done. But, yes, he can recycle it and it will turn back on.
But I don't know if that will happen here, Mike. And what I did see here too was from the side when he arrived at turn four. Yes, there. I think he had the left rear tire down. That's what it looked like. Ah, he apparently he got in touch with someone. He cut the left rear tire. Look, right here it's just banking. He saved it a bit, at least he kept it from going into the outer wall, just flipped it. There is a nice job sticking out of the wall, dealing more damage. They have that car running now.
I think they pushed him off his 10th attempt to win the five hundred. Brad Kozlowski. He has been champion of this sport but he has not conquered the five hundred here. See the riser tar all the way to the edge sparkle. I got all the flaps from everything in the roof labs that had flaps, all of it designed to counter lift. Make sure these cars stay on the ground when sideways in the wind at high speed. It's a lot of rib rash, right there it is. Twelve laps to go. Twenty-nine cars on the lead lap, plus Eric Jones, who will get a free pass.
Mike, I pulled out my 2019 racing trend folder and this is what I got. If you look at the last ten days, a total of five hundred, we're going to race again, probably with about nine or ten laps to go. But in the last ten five hundred, the average of the last booking is the last ninety-three with seven to go. And in those ten races, Mike, we've had four overtimes, including one year ago. Twelve laps to go and a hundred thousand fans were in those stands at the start of the race. I don't see any empty. No one leaves because they know what can happen on the last lap of the Daytona five.
I don't know why they bought a standing CD since Ray Stark. I tell you right here in front of us, these people almost never sat down to rest at this time. Get ready for an incredible finale next week in Atlanta. New engine package. New aerodynamic package for Cup cars What will happen at Atlanta Motor Speedway next Sunday on Fox? I can't wait to find out what a great sample of what we have to look forward to. two thousand and nineteen. This has been the best Daytona Five Hundred I have seen in quite some time. It's not even over yet.
And Mike, the Aero package because of the reduction in horsepower and everything they did to the cars that they think NASCAR believes in. I think teams may even believe that we could see this type of racing in Atlanta next week. Racing pack. Let's go to the studio with Shannon Spake Ricky and Bobby. You love that. don't you weigh? I like it too. Alright. So earlier on the show, I was talking to Ricky and we were talking about forms and how strong plate racing has been. But you said Toyota, and I said, don't you mean forward? And you said, No Toyota.
This seems to be turning out to be a prediction of yours. Yeah, the cars have been very, very stable at the bottom. Denny Hamlin has instincts. A sixth sensation of being able to lead the draft. Obviously, Kyle Busch has bought that. And then a newcomer to the equation would be known. Benedict. Now he's going to line up four. So he will be the benefit of Denny or Kyle. Depending on which line Denny takes. This is evaluating Toyota against arrest. And I thought about the Chevrolets, we'll be up there. and Byron. Alex Bowman. William struggled when Erik had fuel pressure issues.
So those guys are out of it. But can they come back? So I do not know. Can the force return to the ship? He's back there. Oh, he's going to be good. Mike, take us home. Shape. Here we go. eleven to go Right now they will take the green. Attend to go And in the last twelve the leader of the Daytona Five Hundred Assists to Go has won two of them. Clint Boyer in the fourteen running third. We hear. Obviously he broke Lane back there. I have good cars for that. You're going to have to wait, would-be anyone.
Talking to an observer Brett Griffin. And I think that's based on the qualifying race. We saw where he wanted to break. Griffin did not give a Clinton Clint Boyer. Sufficient notice When? When Logano dove like he did, Denny Hamlin chose the outside lane against Kyle's votes for what could be the final reset. I think God wanted it that way. We are talking about the great American race of the Daytona 5500. I don't think it's over yet, bro. Come on. He is not Debbie Downer. Five hundred. Oh no no, he's going to be unbelievably crazy. Yes, Denny Hamlin has to go up and block Matt Benedetto.
Keep that Toyota behind him. Here comes Call Bush with a push from in here. He reminds me of the same kind of carnage we saw where these cars were going everywhere, lots of damage. They all reached three years of age. Will that ruin everything sometimes? Sometimes speeches. I'm speechless, you know. There are only those good stories that are built in a career. And boy, was Benedetto doing an amazing job, man. So let's go to the Goodyear blimp where the driver exits or try to go back to the pit room and look at the outside lane. Benedetto and Paul Menard.
Paul Menard Given a good push back, DiBenedetto gets to his right rear. Oh yeah, that's starting to change a bit. He has it in the rear right, and then he picks up Menard. Logano just misses it, but all of the outside Lane and half of the inside driver and this is exactly what we were talking about. At this point in the race, you can begin to savor victory in the Daytona 500. You want to see that checkered flag and you will do anything to get it. And you know you have to be more aggressive with those air hits that look exactly like the shock.
I mean, all those cars. Third turn, all those cars piled up. Slaton up the track the planet was unleashed. As much as the clash that is February 17th seems too much like the 4th of July. A fireworks everywhere. Yes, and really and truly. It was a poem, Menard. He gave Benedetto a little shell, but he was on the outside on the right side and that just made Benedetto the outside wall. And then he was in a different situation than what we saw in the class between Minard and Jimmy Johnson. But it was kind of similar when we heard the observer at blackjack Menard say, Well, he zigzagged and we acted.
And in this case, Menard told his team over the radio, I just hit him too hard. I mean, what are you going to do? It's the end of the race. You're trying to help that guy. You are trying to help Benedetto. You are not trying to destroy. But this evil, that paper soul judgment is Number Town. David Ragan. Below ten. At Merola, David Ragan looks at what springs he's running. Check it out. All those lines of sparks. Amazing shots on all Merola wanted was a chance to win it on the last life. Yeah, I didn't like it last year.
I didn't get there close. I have to believe that our two leaders are not called now. Bush and Denny Hamlin really wanted and hoped to have another Toyota in there and Di Benedetto to help them get this win today, it's going to be a little harder for them to keep those sports cars and some Chevys going forward at bay. Also some amazing camera work from our Fox Sports Crew. You travel with Joey Logano. Just one too much pushed the microphone from him is what I saw Kyle Larson. Other. Down down. Well, I'm not sure. Well. Here's Austin Dillon.
Here. South. Oh! Martin Truex. Let's just say I'm not sure which list graphics the cars involved in the accident or the cars that didn't see it gather. We'll know when we get back. Huge build up near the end of the Daytona 500. I'm a bit of a rocker. A bit of Memphis at the National motel. In my soul, I don't know. A little country, the new Chevy Silverado. It's a little bit of country, and it's a little bit of rock and roll. Could switching to Geico really save you 15 percent or more on auto insurance? Did the pig cry?
Wee wee wee all the way home? Wait, you're home. Cool. Thank you, Mr. Day. Geico. Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more. Wow. Good. It's too big. And the fries are tremendous. I know crispy bacon is the best thing to happen to French fries. That? Mr Fries showcases McDonald's world famous bacon free French fries. Or has crispy bacon given Fingerlings some street cred with a whole new audience? I'm going to let Bacon think I couldn't hear you because of the innovation of baking Big and bacon bacon. McDonald's classics with bacon. For a limited time only.
Is that the best that can happen to our classics or two bacon? Try it yourself and decide on a dozen or more cars destroyed in the space of about six seconds with less than ten laps to go in the Daytona 500, some still moving, but those cars pretty damaged. Now William Byron has some three-or-damage, but you'll see him meander in this shot from Goodyear's blimp left on the inside. That's our pole sitter. Sometimes it's an advantage to be back as if you had a second chance. Maybe I see a little damage here. Hit that card. Front oflabel comes the whole score of air.
Jones goes back up to Ms. Eclipse and she must have hit him left here to cause her to damage you. But compared to everyone else, all the drivers are out of the cars and doing fine. You'll see Byron come into frame, lopsided down, spinning like a top. They're here comes Williams to get it right. He got a little bit of damage left in there, but he always squeals. We are still going in the right direction. Here are the cars that are involved in the crash in numerical order. This is take one. I just paid twenty. Look.
Att David Reagan's car in reverse. What about mess? Look at that it goes on and on. Eighteen cars stacked like this is the product of this type of racing. I know we all love it. It's exciting, it's fun to watch. But if there's a little mistake like Paul Menard made in pushing the Benedetto, just taking it a little too hard and putting it in front of the whole field and you got a bunch of wanted cars like this? Once again, everyone is fine. Out of the cars and all good, B checked into the spotlight. There's David Reagan's car in the back.
Let's go to the leaders pit and listen to the crew chief. Here's Vince Well, and that's Kyle Busch's pit. And with Adam Stevens, his team leader. Wow, it's been a It's been a solid day for you guys. It hasn't been too eventful. That's good news. But now, gearing up for this restart with a whole bunch of Fords behind you, we're waiting for you. Yeah, you know, you expected the Fords to get in front sooner or later, and we played the track position game well all day and made good adjustments. I have a pretty fast car. But some respect.
It's like the back nine of the Masters doesn't really start until Sunday. And this dress she doesn't put on until she tends to leave. What do you think about partnering with the other manufacturers when it comes to pushing in the last few laps? I think once you get below ten, everyone is thinking about the checkered flag and all bets are off. Thanks, Adam. Clint Boyer. Since in a third position, which has been Mike Bugger Ravitch, well, for a while, it seems that you have some outside. But you're sitting there with a bunch of your Ford corporate teammates.
Five. And I think the first seven. Yes, it's a nice surprise. You know, our mobile at Rush Truck Center Mustang has been up and running for a good weekend. Actually. We have been in position. It looked a bit gloomy in there for a while. Lots of Toyotas and stuff out there. Not many friends, but it seemed to work for us. Now we have his teammates behind us, so we have a chance. That's all we can ask for. Well, you have a chance. All right, under the red flag, the cars are parked while we wait for the cleanup to be completed.
It's pretty much a fair shot in. And you can even pull out Chase Alien's nine, the twenty-four William Byron. Other than that, all those cars are the only ones that survived with little or no damage. Regardless, it's time to turn up the heat as the NASCAR Cup Series gets down to business with Atlantis. Last year Kevin Harvick dominated the weekend and started an inaccessible fairway. The race is not over in checkered flag ways. Coverage begins at twelve until one o'clock Eastern. Atlanta can't wait to see that new rules package in action at Cup. Siri's Big Triplet Weekend.
Come outside. Join us in Hampton, Georgia. We go to the spotlight and Regan David Ragan, the first driver to leave the spotlight. First of all, I'm glad you're okay, David. From your point of view, you have a fast race. Charles Date. You are a good racing driver from your point of view. Could you do something there? No. It hits the bottom a little faster. I messed up one and two, and I thought Blaney was going to push me in the back right away and he abandoned me. And when they started smashing and three and four, I saw it for a split second.
And before I could do anything, it seems I'm under ten car there, looking down at her weird, residential South. See, that's just a product of these sprints. It's the Daytona Five Hundred. You go for the win. I can't think the top tier motorsports team selects dot com blinds. We had a fast racing car. We were in dispute. That's all you can hope for in those last ten laps until all hell breaks loose. Well, is it under that race car right there? I mean, you're completely below Erica. I am Erol's car. What could you see? Yeah, I can't think of NASCAR and safety teams, you know, you hit a hard impact like that and you're moving.
You see, Sparks, you see smoke, but you're still conscious and holding on. So going two hundred miles an hour and coming to a stop so fast with the concrete wall isn't much fun. But NASCAR and their entire security team do an amazing job keeping it safe so we can go to Atlanta Motor Speedway next. We can do it again. Thanks, David. Thank you Regan. David Reagan. One of those left out of the race. Eighteen cars damaged. I'm not sure if all of those are out of the running right now with Coach Gibbs. Here's Vince. But we often talk about the nerves of the driver or the team manager.
But what if the owner of the car sits here in Daytona and the first two cars belonged to him? What are his thoughts, Coach? My thoughts are that I thought we looked pretty good and then wait. Austerity. And then they lost Di Benedetto and now we have a lot of Fords sitting right behind us. So this is always this gun hitting a weight like that. Uh, but, well, we have two veteran guys, Denny and Kyle, and I feel good with them and I have Fenix and Mars Corporation out front. But what a great crowd today. I just hope that somehow our two guys stay together and we can pull this off, do you think they're going to tie at the end?
You're going to have even if one of them wins, obviously another one is going to be disappointed. How do you manage that team owner balance of his? It is always difficult. I think when we come off the race track, when you have four cars, yes, there are three. Three of them are not happy. So, er but that's also part of our sport, which I love. Companions are needed and they are needed. You actually have to work as a team with four different cars. You Coming race track. I love the challenge, but it's hard. Thanks, coach. Well, their cars right now are one for Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin.
He is a trainer. He will find a way to run this hell without a problem. That's how it is. Let's go back to Regan. Well, in his first race with the Vine family racing Benedetto, you were putting on a show. You led forty-nine laps, you were having the streak of your career, and then it all went wrong down the stretch. Share what happened in the car. Just the race and the deal, huh? You know, not just any intentional thing. I spoke to Paul there. I just think he's trying to get me out of Clinton's right rear.
Just, uh, just running hard. So, uh, this is the first time I've seen it there. Yeah, it looks like he barely made it to my right butt. He was just trying to push me out, but he was focused on trying to help my Toyota teammates. I hope they can't pull it off. But, man, like you said, this is, I mean, it was the most fun racing event I've ever had in my life. Being able to lead does amazing things. I obviously an amazing scene. People can see what we're doing here. They need to be part of a professional course sponsor.
I mean, all these Levine guys, family racing, Toyota, all of them. Everyone took a big chance on humans and, gosh, we showed what we're here to do. And I'm very, very heartbroken, but I'm grateful to be here. Thank you very much to all the fans. For all the support. Where is only the beginning? I'm glad you're well. And that we will see in Atlanta the great run he had here today and ends up crashing. Kyle Busch could be joining the Fox sports post. Got a copy? Well, we talked this morning, and you said you wanted to find some friends and get to the front and have a chance to win the five hundred.
And here you are. It's you and Denny Hamlin against the world. How do you play this? I don't know. Uh, they tend to go with any man. Three. We just have to get out here and figure out how we can make it our own. Eminem's camera has been snappy here all week, and Adam and the guys have done an amazing job fair again, working very hard all offseason to get us to this decision. And that was a matter of me and the food, going to work here and bringing it home for everyone. Top lane, Bottom lane.
Both worked well today at different times. As it cools. Do you prefer one over the other? Uh, not really, no. Uh, I think you just have to figure out what, what? You just go with it. Alright. Good luck. These last nine laps. Thank you so much. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and then five Fords right behind them at the restart. Let's go back to recognition. He spent strong Speedweeks for Paul Menard. Unfortunately, both races where you were in front at the end. You end up in the reversal. Please tell us what happened in the back right there with the eraser when it went wrong.
Yes, yes, it was time to go. And that's pushing in ninety-five. And it looks like it's trying to get the middle. I tried to get to the outside and barely hooked it. Oh yeah. Wrecked many cars. That was. That was my fault. Um, black cars feel bad about it. Fast forward. We begin to govern. Apologize to Matt immediately. He obviously shook your hand. No. There are no hard feelings between you. How disappointing is that toe. To have such fast race cars here and nothing to show for it when the weekend is over. Yes, I walk. So money, counterfeiter.
Fastest weekend, full weekend, couple of bowling in there that can try to pull it off. But we parted. Uh, me and fancy cars and s h R cars. At one point I had a lot of fun on the road. We lost a lap, we had a battle coming back, but we broke away. They weren't as overbearing as the water plan was. Obviously, plans are always changing, but there are still a couple of details. Try to win it. Thank you pablo. What are you trying to give the Wood Brothers their sixth 500 win at Daytona? Running with a heavy heart after losing the Patriarca Glenwood team and family last month at the age of ninety-two, WeII watched Joey Logano drive past the scene of the accident.
He looked like he had missed it, but we heard a little scraping like someone had broken into twenty-two. You'll see him enter the frame here from the platform on the right. Just there. there, right? Oh yeah. Seventeen just arrived to the left of him. Europe. That's not too bad damage. I think it's okay. He was the last. Really through there without any damage. Let's ride with them and listen to that right side. Just a couple of kisses there. I don't know. I don't think he hurt much. It could have been the skirts on the side of the car against the track platform.
You could here, try to get to the platform. I think actually that moment got him on the race track a little more than he really wanted to go back to Regan Daniels. Another driver who was caught up in that accident. I'm glad this year. Okay, Daniel, I couldn't go anywhere. But is there anything positive you can take away from today as you ride your new race teams home racing to Atlanta like it's fast? We're in the top ten all day, shelling for the lead and picking up some state points. Everything was going great. Um, I mentioned on the radio many times that something big was going to happen.
I just wanted to make sure that we're going to stay, you know, stay out of it. They are just politicians. Because with ten laps to go it's not like we can just hang out and wait. It's time to continue. Unfortunately, we just spoke to someone else. Mistake. Thank you. Danny Mike, I have to tell you, this looks more like a drivers' meeting here than it is. At Kerrison there were so many drivers coming out at this time, Eighteen cars were involved in that crash and NASCAR protocol is that it has to go to the car center and be checked out, then released to TV and radio.
Well, quite conciliatory here after the accident it was not so. Forty years ago today. Dona five hundred thousand nine hundred and seventy nine last turn Cale Yarborough on the inside Donnie Allison Kale made the move to the inside. Don. He said that he would give him the outside. They hang together on the wall and slide onto the grass. And from a mile and a half behind came Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip and A. J. Foyt Petty winning the five hundred. Bobby Allison stopped to check on his brother and jumped out of the car. And then he went all out on Alison Brothers and Cale Yarborough in one of the five hundred wildest endings in history.
That's a car that Richard used in season seventy-nine to win the championship. That year, though, he didn't drive here at Daytona, there's Darrell Waltrip's 89-winning car and Jeff Gordon's 1999-winning car. Like, I think courtesy goes out the window on the last lap. Were going. Dollars. Clint Boyer to Clint, this is Jeff, man. man you gotlots of action behind you. You have two Toyotas in front of you. What will it take to get this Daytona Five Hundred Victory? What were they doing? A good job. Do you know how to get aggressive? Uh, when we closed the position, I was really worried, but the support stuff has been strong.
Every week of speed down here, kind of following behind me, changes things up nicely. Getting to the other guys there ahead of us. I made quick work of them. But I hope you know what, coming when you do that. Well, I'll tell you what, you guys have been putting on quite the show. I don't know if I or any of us could anticipate the side-by-side action and all the things that happen. You have been at the front. You've been in the back. Uh, I mean, what do you expect to happen in these last nine laps? Well, I mean, you know, they're going to try to work together, but, okay, there's a bunch of these Mustangs reviews here.
I have some allies. They're going to be teammates back there with Kevin. Simply happy. This is a good man. It has been a great race. Irvan skipped by counting anything signed around businesses like old Daytona. And I know you all better be pretty good at it too. So I'm glad you're up there. Uh, next, look what just happened. A lot. So my Amen. Thanks for putting on a great show. Good luck until the end. Thank you. Clint Boyer will restart third on the inside. I made a mistake. The full moon affects the races on Sunday night.
Were you thinking, Mike? Why doubt that? Last year, Erik Al Merola won Daytona by ninety-nine, but with a mile to go from the finish line, he hit the wall. Bye bye. Austin Dillon, who went to Victory Lane? Pal Merola left the Daytona five hundred behind. And tonight, by an incident none of his concern, he picks up number ten. Stewart Haas Sports sends him airborne, down to rest, and out of the race. Regan is with him. We will turn three. Daytona hasn't been very kind. Eriko Merola. Eric, we say they saw your car. They are going up in the air.
We speak with David Ragan. He had the point of view from under his car. What was he like in your car? Do you think you were going there? I did. For a fraction of a second. I thought I was going to go and watch a
replay
of the recommended one that has, ah, a lot of resemblance to Kansas, but, um, luckily I steered clear of that one. Nothing hurts. Everything is fine. So stay disappointed. You are our Smithfield. Strong Mustang was good. Not as good as what we had at Talladega, but I thought we were good and right there in the last few laps and the intensity picked up.And there are a lot of great races that come and push and push and it seems like the ninety-five, uh, they loosened up a little bit, they're in turn three, and we all come together. So it's kind of like the product of restrictor plate racing in this kind of thing, when you race so many cars that they shut down when the boner happens, we all just pile up there. So we'll pick ourselves up and go to Atlanta. Our Talladega winner a year ago, we'll have to wait for his next win. That young man is a championship caliber driver he needs a little more luck.
Someone will be able to polish the Harley Earl Trophy in about nine laps and then you can get the whole recap and recap a NASCAR race this week in NASCAR. The race of the season is officially on, and we're talking to the Daytona 500 champion. Plus, we have Jamie McMurray fresh off his date in a 500 race along with Brad Kozlowski. David Ragan. Chad can house cold bird and blackened food server and what are they going to leave. You know you have champion size. You activate. Well, that's it for this week in NASCAR. It runs on weekdays at six in the afternoon.
M. This Solo in F s one under the red flag here at Daytona with nine laps to go, Shannon. There is no shortage of topics to talk about in the race this week. Like I said, take us home. But we're going to have to pause that for a second, right? I mean, oh my gosh, we're going to have some of the guys, of course, who were involved in that crash at the race center later this week. So we'll certainly be able to go through everything with them here with Ricky and Bobby or Bobby and Ricky, whatever you want to call it.
We have Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin right up front. How do they play this? If you're them, let Thea to Toyota get to the bottom of the track and run. Yeah, racing is what we saw and this is from the very beginning, right? We see Kurt Busch's. Move by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. did he touch it or didn't he? That was the question. It's a game of inches and you can feel it. We, a driver, one when another gets so close to the back of the car lives. It's a bit later that you start to see some muscle from the Toyotas called Bush jumping to the front.
You've been in that Toyota car for the whole race. Ricky. We saw them working on the Chevy early on, and then trying to slow it down from two hundred to fifty-five miles per hour. This is sometimes what will happen, and the bad thing about it is, obviously, Jimmy Johnson put in a great performance all day. Hendrik Car has been fast, he goes on tour from behind. This has happened to me before. No, I just had bad luck. He just follows it. That's where the fuel is supposed to go into the car, so it's not good. Then Kyle Larson passes by, and really, he was kind of quiet until the end of the race.
I mean, calm down in the fact that we saw two wide runs, three wide runs, but we didn't see a lot of carnage until, of course, this one is going to last ninety percent of the race. The first ninety percent. You don't allow yourself to think about lifting the Daytona 500 trophy, but with twenty laps to go, it creeps into your mind. I get a shot at this, and the mindset turns. If I lift, I lose. And that always gets you in trouble. Camino saw Paul Menard, uh, you know, not getting up. Doing what he has to do as a driver trying to win the great American race.
And you saw the repercussions for that. Like, I think you fooled us with that full moon comment. Let's try this again. What about that? I would never have shown you that already. They kept their art. Director insisted that we see the full one. Oh Lord. Alright. Two Toyota, five fours than a square. a 25 minute red flag chevrolet. Now we are back in yellow and two laps were in green. What happens next? Well this is what I think is going to happen. Our leader, Kyle Busch, will probably start that off the lane, jump off at the start, try to get in front of his teammate Denny Hamlin to get them close.
If I'm Clint Boyer, I'm going to push Denny Hamlin as hard as he can to try to prevent that from happening. Once that happens, they're going to have to start pulling back and getting some sort of run in the last couple of laps, I think if Joy Mangano doesn't have a lot of corner damage on him. I do not think it does. I think he may be there. The wild card factor? Yes. Maybe they were expecting the other thing Mike was thinking of declaring. Do you remember we talked before the lights were on? Now it's dark.
Maybe you don't have the correct shield. Maybe you had a darkness. She's going to borrow for her son, and now she doesn't have a clear theme just for the lights. That could be a problem. Alright, well, let's find out what Kyle Busch's audio reboot reboot strategy might be. Excuse me. We're going to go to the audio form at the bottom. Our family could take the top, and they have weakened eleven to change rooms. He let us down. Or what? Uh, probably the best force in numbers. Has that happened? But he is ready to go. The lawyer was pushing and pushing me pretty aggressively not to let the eleven down, so I don't know if it's working.
Yeah, I think that's our best bet. No, I think the more they try to break it up, we'll see it in a lab or so here. After an eighteen car stack with ten to go. We'll be back to finish the Daytona 500. Are you going to lead or are you going to be led, are you going to be ruled by the grind, take a different route. You have to work. Carve your own path until you reach the top. Where are you going? From the Harley Earl Trophy a year ago to tonight's Sledgehammer. That's Austin Dillon's night cab coming out of the bottom of the top row of that hood, or I could relate. I want three of these things, but I have a deck much more than that.
Kyle Busch. What do you do to win this race? Well, let's see right here. He chose the outside. They talked about it on the radio, so he did everything he could to get a big part of Denny Hamlin, get in front of them. But Clint Boyer is the last guy who wants to let that happen. He wants to deal these Toyotas. I see a little more damage to the left. She that car twenty-two. I didn't think I don't know if he was hurt, but he stays away. Green Green. Perfectly executed. Good start for the eighteen thirty four car.
Michael McDowell. He's pretty good. Imaging plate prints only. He is sitting in a good place. He has help. Joey Logano gave her a push because Denny Hamlin leaned there a bit to let his teammate out. Problem that opened the door on the outside of the thirty-four. Not twenty-two together were damaged or not. Always turn the glued, many almost turned thirty-four the same way. Do you believe how Ryan's priests shot God? I can't believe it. I can't believe they can believe that. We'll have a great view of that. Like that Visor camera, Ryan. priests! There's your leader.
Third fourth fifth. This is the question that now he did not hesitate to anticipate eleven now. Don't you dare. Give me another picture of the full moon. We saw this from the Goodyear airship. The last shipwreck that occurred. Twenty to thirty-four strokes of writing his. The twenty hooks him a bit, but really, this he assumed happened because Stenhouse's seventeen dived to the middle. There really wasn't much of a hole there. Pick up a forty-two from Larson, the wall four from Harvey Teo. Here comes thirteen, he gets into two, he spins around. Holy smoke, I thought. Truck writes At night.
They had six trucks or seven that we are running to finish. I thought I would never say something like that until now. Five. Ryan Booth Camp. He is a modified Robin Wright. That? Stan House Here you see a little, tiny hole that wasn't really there. Push fourth Kevin Harvick into the infield. Flip to Kyle Larson. His friend, by the way. Kyle Larson? I don't know. I don't think there is anyone now. What a blue Liberty car. Stenhouse Larson. Just gather. Wait. By the way, there's our polesitter, William Byron, in twenty-four. Just drive through it. Wow. How did he say that?
Don't discount it. That left rear. They did a good job fixing the left one, damaged from the previous accident. What does young William have to say? Subscribe your good way of looking at the back of the car. Thunder days right there. It's Tom Cruise in line with Lordy, Lordy. I remember one day at Talladega when Neal Bonnet was driving a second car for Richard Childress when they found out they were in an accident and were walking back to pit road. And I asked him to do it in the pits for CBS and I said, Get down on your knees, you took on everyone out there.
I said, who do you think? Your best position to win this race? He looks at me. He is in security cars, they shot him. I agree with that way of going down. You know, this wizard, exciting career going on. It was many different people who led Benedetto at different times, shooting. And it was a great, exciting race, and all of a sudden there was carnage. It's a hot dog tick, overcooked. Here. Some audio from Kyle Busch's crew Good with the outer lace. But when I'm in the outside lane and something defined deep or under meat, I can't see how they dropped it so quickly.
I can't tell Russert my whole lead. You have to tell me if what you want or not. I must be in front of you. Usually that Mir on the left side is rounded. Tim, give it more of a view to the left side and look more into the field to see what someone is running, especially when you hear that off Lane. So he just says, noI have a clear view of that, so I'll need the help of a spotter, and just anticipate having to go from the yellow line to the wall to block whoever is coming.
We will travel with Kyle Larson. I don't want to travel with anyone. Two blocks from Lane, seventeen years repeat. I think Ricky Craven said it best. You just don't get up within ten to go. We are now entering. Five to go. You don't live. I understand that. Ricky Stenhouse has a career. He has the moment. He said, I have this race. I have a new opportunity here to recover some positions and get a position to win this state. Oh, five hundred. Sometimes you have to live with yourself, Kevin Hart. What just happened. Chase. Elliott passed by.
He is currently listed at number twelve. If Chase could win the race you get ten free boneless wings every ten Monday and years or you get free fried pickles. Box finishes. We're in a bind right now. There are those dark eyes and talking about it. And the sun was going down, you know? I mean, you probably don't want to see what's in front of you all of a sudden, not turning two around to go around the security truck. Borders, always back to Pit. That sequence didn't work out well for him. The lawyer is not happy about it now.
Now. This is very interesting now. Call. Bush chose the inside lane. It's like he's done with it because the eleven before was in the internal vents and the reason he did that, Jeff. They had a conversation between spotter Tony Hershman and crew chief Adam Stevens. And it was all about who was in the way to push the stack. And potentially who would he have to stop to win the race? He didn't prefer Logano after him. TTO has to beat Logano at the finish. He felt that Lagana was cautious enough to do so, so he chose McDowell behind.
Always listened. Five to go. It was save yourself who can. I thought it was some kind of team. Adam Stevens told us that during that red flag to go green, here it comes, drive it from the outside, this makes me like that. He's coming. He's definitely going to make a career out of this thing. The last three add up to five hundred have been decided. Bannon, until that just happened. Just there. Now. Three wide, two rows back. Rivers back. The boy turns out a little too soon in the dress. William Byron's house. To what? What note?
Didn't we understand that this is crazy? Joe Gibbs. The Toyotas drive them to the other side of the line. It could be a process of removal here. We're going to NASCAR in overtime. William Byron, get ready to get out of Chase. Ellie is coming down the road. We'll have a green flag, a white flag, and hopefully a token. It will be a two-lap shootout to finish the Daytona 500. We will have a car. We're going to have a checkered flag. I just got the wind. Clint Boyer's radio. Okay wait. Here is a great move. Side currents, thirty formics down twenty-four leads them to why they stagnate here where?
Eat. Look, he gets off that yellow line a little too soon. I don't know if I raised the air on the right side. He just decided to try to get up a little early ahead of me by thirty for a big hit. Just there. The double zero landed on William Byron's side door. Well let's ride with Brian for free because you won't believe this chapter will get there. Are you OK. Are you OK. Are you OK. Someone has to watch this side. they are again. William received too-hard knocks on the driver's side door, one from Clint Boyer and the next one later from Landing Castle.
It's all the way down a second here. My Lord, I would like to explain all these to you, but they are really an explanation. Just reply on that line. I was going to put him in a great position. Jimmie Johnson in the forty-eight. You know, Boyer wasn't happy with where he had to restart. And of course he was trying to get back to where he was in third. He almost made it. Now, to establish that restart order, NASCAR freezes the field at the caution going back to the last scoring cycle where everyone was racing before the time of the caution.
Thus they restored order. Twenty. Eric Jones Boom shoots. He just threaded the needle in there and barely made it through which is right. The man gets the partner from him. Everything that happened was correct. How about this? Air Jones appeared right now in the twentieth position. I'm not sure what problem they had before. We talked about no fuel pressure, but hey, you're still at it. Fast. Eriks. seventh place. Alright? Yes, that's where they currently have a score. Last three Daytona five hundred. Let's review the last left. Twenty five sixteen. Martin Truex inside Denny Hamlin. Change lead three times on the way to the finish line, handling the winner twenty-seven.
Last lap beyond the push. Kyle Larson runs out of fuel. And here's Austin Dillon putting the bumper on Eric Allen a year ago. A Zay said in the previous race Hold on, that white flag threw the rule book out the window. Do what you have to do. Do you know what they all had in common? They had one. Latest. Now that we're going to toe it's just our second overtime. I have a question for Larry. Larry, you know, they came for fuel. One sixty three was the last time there on Pit Road. How are these guys doing with the fuel?
Yes Jeff. I mean, obviously, they pitted with thirty-seven to go into the regulation labs, but they've done it, and I'm out of paper, but we've run over twenty caution laps and you know how much fuel they saved. So I think everyone should be in good shape, considering the number of cautionary laps ahead. Yeah, probably right there later. And I ask you one more question. What about the eleven, although they previously had that fuel in question? Do we know how to solve that? Are you filling it with fuel? Well, we've been looking at different shots, and it seems like even earlier in the race, in the middle of the race they were definitely having some issues, I think, Regan Smith reported.
But the last few times we've looked, we didn't see any issues with them putting fuel in that car. Jeff On Thursday night, Joey Logano made the move of moves from fourth. He said that he thought about it for thirty laps to plan exactly where and how he would win that race. It was a textbook that gets a little draft right here, the office team gets out of the ten car. That, and then he shoots back twelve, gives him a push. Those show boys on the momentum he needed to get in front of Clint Boyer and they couldn't catch him.
Now, I don't know about a job tonight, but it could be different. They were single, they filed in, and he had all this time to plan and think about it because as the race unfolded, it didn't seem like any warnings were coming. Now that we have these reboots side by side, I just don't think he could plan it like that. Well, there's no way. Don't have the patience of being a child to do that. However, that push will have to come from behind. Yeah, it's got a little bumbershoot right there on the left rear. So that's going to hurt Jeff.
Why did he make that move? exactly where? On the track he did it. I love that area to make a move, and I'll tell you why he might. As you enter the test, look at the driver in front of you if he is facing forward. He is looking at his mirror, looking at him from looking at himself in this mirror. But as he comes out of that test, he must present his prevention of hitting the wall. Therefore, his eyes generally gravitate forward as he unwinds the ladder. Well, that's when you jump. You make that move because you don't look in the mirror.
And it seemed that that was exactly what happened. With the camera of him rolling in front of Joey, it was almost like he didn't see it coming. It was like a surprise. I mean, all of a sudden, Lagana was jumping. Here it comes. And, well, that CIA arrival that materialized all the way back and turned around because he joined godless teammate Ryan Blaney who climbed on the rear bumper from game one. Nice push closed the front immediately to build that time. Um, in that extra speed when they came in, the travel cars are being pushed into the garage area Chase, Elliot's and Clint Boyer's There's Britain and Gon's being dragged back into the garage yesterday was the race no one wanted to pass.
Tonight is the race where no one seems to be able to find the finish line, and here are some of the reasons why Kurt Busch, Bubble Wallace's forty-three, Jamie McMurray's forty with damage. This is the next pit road for him and saying Kyle Larson has a thing going around Brad Kozlowski with Tyr and Matthew Benedetto getting turned by Paul Menard and eighteen car violence. Miguel. I know it looks like they're just bouncing around, but they shake you around a lot and you're in these kinds of risks. And then, with two to go, Boyar falls on Michael McDowell and makes contact with William Byron and Chase Elliott.
And one thing that came off our screen there when all this was going on behind them was Denny Hamlin. With the lead. Do you think Kyle Busch regrets that decision to go inside on that restart? Here's Kyle Busch on the inside. It's too late in the race for us to play those games on the restart to try to get to the head. I'm just going to go for Boyar, sitting fifth out of fourteen, he knows he has to make something happen, and now is the time. One and a half turns to go. Hey, he does a good job here.
Recognizing that from twenty to thirty-four, they just get a little high, they plateau. He just pulls to the right. I'm almost like Dal has a problem, barely by two feet. Denny Hamlin was in front. Kyle Busch. They checked the score from the caution, and that might be all Denny Hamlin needed to win this race and think about what an emotional victory it will be for Trainer Gibbs. Eleven car wins this race. That would be incredible. Wei is two laps away from finishing the Daytona 500. Red flag is out, the cleanup is over tonight on Fox. Bob Spurs is next, except on the West Coast.
The Simpsons at eight, a Bob's hamburger at thirty, then a double dose of Family Guy at nine and nine-thirty. Mike, what time do you and I do that? Hit this morning with Fox in a box and print About seven twenty-five thirty-one hours ago, there have been twelve Hired But look at the gallery. Everyone is still here waiting to figure this out. Coach Gibbs, with his two cars leading over a crowd of a hundred thousand waiting to see who would finally walk the drive, is pushed onto Victory Lane hoisting the Harley Earl Trophy. Series. I have a name.
Take it with you, but wait for their names. Do one thing themselves. Good year. More driven. Well, if you're not the lead dog, the scenery never changes. That's why this is the sight for all other full-size trucks. And this year it's deja vu again. Because only the Ford F one fifty with the Thai strength military grade aluminum alloy body gives you the best in its class. Payload and you have a best in class baby. Still towing with Thiss is Big Dog. This is the Ford F one fifty. It doesn't just raise the bar. It is. What are you doing?

Building a better bank begins with observing an old saying: Really? So Capital One is building something completely new. Capital One cafes invite places with people here to help you not to sell your savings and checking accounts with no fees or minimums because that's the way it's meant to be. You can open one from right here or anywhere in five minutes.
Oh really? Five minutes. This is banking reinvented inside your wallet. Coming soon to NASCAR Xfinity. Siri's Saturday races in Atlanta on FM one, Las Vegas on Fox and Phoenix on F S have won the next three weeks in a row and the Cup Series will follow on Sunday. Oh please. It's a full moon on Sunday night, we all grew up racing short tracks and a full moon on Saturday night meant carnage and crashes and oh, a lot of work throughout the week getting those cars ready and it's no different tonight. But as I look at the cars that are left, it will be a Noah's Ark.
Restart two Toyotas in the front row, two Fords right behind them, and the Chevrolet right behind them. What happens next? Well, I think eleven is going to win this race. He got into a position. I think that little advantage that he had behind is just what we need to win this race. But Michael McDowell, who is having a great career, could be just as polar on this whole thing. But I have been all set for us for a finish and I had to wait. So I warmed everything up to finish. And then I had to wait, so maybe we'll have an ending.
It heated up right now. I don't know, Jeff. I can't pick a winner for this. Kyle Busch is very, very strong. So is Denny Hamlin. They both know how to win here. Ah, Hamlet is a former Daytona 500 champion, Joey Logano's hat. The fastest car of the whole week. I wonder what are theodds that Ryan Priests will work in fifth place. It's still anyone's career. Really is. I mean, I look at Danny Hamlin right now. He'll likely take that inside position, as his teammate Ka Bush did before. And he's got Joey Logano on his bumper. That's going to be a nice boost to try to get out there and get that lead.
But out of I want to join the God on my rear bumper in the last few laps. We've seen what he's been up to. Uncle dio, don't you think, Joe? You'll be pushing a little harder than Michael McDowell. Yes No. Maybe I think Joey has a lot of confidence on these types of tracks and is more aggressive. Michael McDowell is doing a phenomenal job getting into this position and I think he's going to have a great finish. I just don't know if he's going to push as aggressively as Logano, but one of the things I do know.
So Logan's car, Mikey, has a big bulge, and that left him with a quarter panel. I think he could be a good pusher, but I don't know what happened. If he tried to get airborne, he got caught up in it, well, well, well, he could really slow down. Let's go back. Denny Hamlin's Daytona Five Hundred Victory three years ago. There is that push that we always talked about. Kevin Harvick had a great slam shot from behind. That's what gave him this run to get three. Why, with teammate Matt Kenseth and Mark Church Jr to make it to the finish, we thought his ex had won this race.
I mean, we were saying tricks, tricks, tricks. And then look at the last second, then it turned out that the lead changed hands three times in that final sixteen hundred feet and Chesterfield, Va.-based Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota driver Denny Hamlin, who grew up in the stands at Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway, waiting for a chance to compete one day here. And seven-year-old Denny Hamlin wrote a letter to himself saying, I want to win the five hundred at Daytona. He specified the year, the paint job and who the crew would be. And his dream came true at least once.
Until now Mike. The landscape has certainly changed for Joey Logano. Now, instead of a lot of Fords around him, he's a mix of manufacturers. So since TJ was able to get an idea of the cars damaged by the severity of the damage, that might help Joey. Yeah, it's, uh, it's pretty poor quality of his cars right now. No damage. So we have a little bit, but we're pretty good. Shape. He had pretty good coming speed, too. It would be interesting to see what we can do with this green and white token. Thanks Toyota. Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Joey Ford.
Look. Lady Logan. Oh, from twenty to thirty-four. Michael McDowell. You are on board with the Chevrolet of the Ryan priests. And next to him, Ty Dillon. There's that damage. Spoken just below. It depends. Everything sounds there. That quarter panel is pretty far. Uh, I don't know how to hurt him or not. I know it hurt a little. I think they are in a very tight draft and everyone is pushing a lot. I don't think it's going to have any effect on Joey Logano's ability, if he has the speed to outrun one of these Toyota crew chiefs for Denny Hamlin for this Regan 500.
While Chris Gay departs. It's been an eventful day for you. You had the fuel problems before. You solve them a couple of pit stops ago. How are your nerves right now? And do you have enough fuel to make it to the end here? Honestly, like I told you before, my nerves really aren't that bad. I mean, you have a talent pool that is these guys around you and Denny Hamlin in a sprint. Actually any race except a speedway race on the main road in speedway races several times in recent years there is a reason why it will work or not.
But I feel pretty good about the FedEx Toyota Camry right now. Good luck. Thank you Chris. Easy cool and collected great guy right there. Not little do what happens, come what may. Yes, he has done his job. It's like Denny, I put you in position to win the Daytona 500. The rest is up to you. Denny Hamlin is your race leader. Twenty six winner Kyle Busch in second place, the number eighteen Toyota. Joey Logano third number twenty to four on the outside of second. Pink. The number. Thirty-four fourteen. Yellow. Michael McDowell as we walk back, drone number three, rookie Ryan Priests for J.T.G.
Doherty Racing in the forty-seven next to him. Ty Dillon, whose brother won this race last year in the number 13 Chevrolet. Eric Jones in his number twenty Toyota. Kyle Larson. Despite showing that caution and damage, he is eighth in a Chevy. Alex Bowman's number eighty-eight Chevrolet is the ninth-place car. Jimmy Johnson at number forty-eight. We saw all the problems Johnson had this week, including the left rear of his car being ripped off on the pit lane by a speeding car. Jimmy is ten years old, and right behind him is, I think, the good story of the day.
Ross Chastain from Florida. Watermelon Man, they call him. He is in that business. He had a ride lined in the worn. The Siri is for the whole season. It was his dream. He was on top of the world until his sponsor got into trouble with the government, he filed for bankruptcy and shut down the team. He missed that trip. He picked up this trip for the five hundred. There's Ross Chastain in eleventh place. He is in perfect condition. Rusty Estate has been a great job today. Keep it up, friend. Hey, take this thing. You know, I keep killing.
Just do it. He did a couple of laps here now also on the lead lap. Ford of Ricky Stenhouse, Ryan Newman and Brad Kozlowski, all with damage. Two turns down. Parker Kligerman and Austin Dillon, seven laps down, Cory Lovejoy and B.J. MacLeod. That air, the car is running, and as soon as the quick dry has gone off the track, we'll be ready to restart. And that first start with two to go was in regulation time. So I'm going to come back to NASCAR eventually and the rules convey this. They will wave the green flag. Yes, and it's a big yes, tonight.
If the leader turns around and takes the white flag while the track is under green, the next flag ends the race. Caution or pictures. If the leader does not reach the white flag below the green one, he will try again. I have money. I crossed my fingers for a sentence that does. I don't work. Probably, and a Tiger Stadium was invented in the mid-eighties. The wave makes a comeback. And Daytona, all gearing up for this restart. What will Denny Hamlin do? Add up, Jess, we make the team. Do reboot. Choose the top. You will let us down. Tracking that twenty-two can't behind the two in third not having thirty-four with the first pushing him up. I'm fine with that. You will be your true love. I agree with the move, but there is no last reset. That's not the way Kyle Busch feels about it. I don't know if I trusted Denny Hamlin to stick with that.
I heard one side of the story, but I never heard the other side of that story. I didn't hear the other guys say, I'm fine with that big difference. There's Denny Hamlin's won the Daytona Five Hundred. Kyle Busch doesn't want to be Dale Earnhardt. Oh, for nineteen it goes for twenty. Still trying to win it. He wants it. Now. One of those guys be happy, keep rolling. If I'm kidding, I'd like to be in the middle of this because I think it's the best chance for your organization to win. The state tone of five hundred is to have them nose to tail, not side by side.
The coach is a good listener. He just listens to what's going on. Joe Gibbs, Rick Hendrick, Roger Penske. Yeah, I mean, they have their big toe in a race like this where they can work together and stay out of trouble.
Stay ahead, give yourself a chance to win. But when I say it to yourself, in the end it all comes down to yourself, hurry up Mac, is that scrapbook going to spontaneously combust tonight? Well, yes, I already saved it for the night, but only going back to teammates. I know he worked for Richard Childress Racing for four years with two car teams there, he had house rules. Your point. Don't destroy your teammate, but don't help someone else beat your team, mate. Those were the two House rules. Other than that, he said, competing in churches is as hard as you want.
I think most of the rules on if there is a rule, if there is a rule of thumb, five laps to go, it's every man for himself. Don't ruin your teammate. But save yourself who can. But folks, there are only two cars of each make in the first three rows, and there are three lanes on the racetrack and there aren't enough. There are not many turns to get. Wait. We just saw what a great career he could do. Boy, oh my! In two cars that were side by side when they stopped. Thirty for McDow, uh, next to Believe Lugano.
Boyer had a great run, so there's no reason that couldn't happen too. If those guys in the front row get next to each other or the two Toyotas get next to each other, install each other. That sound of silence is the saving of Ryan's priests. You don't know how many more of these could fit on these white screen tiles. I've never seen a guy joke around in a car like him, except Rusty Wallace. He reminds me so much. A rusty in the car, shaking his head, Stamp it in Paris, the first fourteen cars to Ryan Newman are on the lead lap.
One of them. We'll win the 502 laps of Daytona to go green next time. Bye bye. All right, Joey Logano radio and then Ty Dillon Way Go to the part where he goes with four. Joey looked in the mirror and said, Oh, I knew that. Looking for help, they can possibly find your friends or where you find them. That's how it is. And sometimes that's the one you least expect in the last few laps of this race. Stephen Stills, sweetheart that you are, will help me help you get a nice room. Unfortunately, right now for Joey Logano, Thai Dylan's thirteen is in the outside lane, so I'm not so sure he can get there.
His best friend. Right now, there's a guy we've been talking about on camera Visor Brian, twenty-two. When he always made good plays, they went outside. I mean, passing a lot of cars outside. Joey Logano, racing against former teammates at Joe Gibbs, racing on the front row with both Toyota Fords and Chevrolet's, and then eight more cars on the lead lap to settle this. So what I'm saying is the real motivator here is for Joey Logano, knowing that he got the opportunity from him Joe Gibbs Racing. Now is that Pinsky? He would love to spoil this day for you.
Two laps to go, everyone on their feet. It's time for overtime, sponsored by Credit Bank. Waiting too long. It's getting too front and center that the Outer Lane isn't organized as well as the Inner Lane, so I think it's going to work. You know, twenty to get there, she'll do it. I just don't think I think thatI managed to not be quite ready and in position. He had a big enough push to try to make a move on his teammate. Denny Hamlin goes to this last lap. I think Priest wanted to help Joy, but he's not that fast. Joy can't keep hooking up one lap to go to Connecticut. Yankees chasing Hamlin. What he comes to help is a play by Greece, and that's what he's going to need. He has a backup. The priest will not be able to do it alone.
He has to get that push. Priest will have to hit the brakes here, but he's got Kyle Busch out on the Lane. Priest grew up together on the slopes of Quarter Midget in Connecticut. Look, Ana looks short. Kyle Busch on top. Look down. McDowell's second yellow car. Where will he go? So interesting that McDowall decided to go with the power boost. But here comes Eric Jones inside. You lied and you and your family are there.
And your new team, your creator, the team leader, but in an incredible way, how incredible in anyone for you. Yeah, I just want to say, the rebranding of Kara's. Well, bringing back the white at FedEx is just one of those days that I felt like it was meant to be. Honestly our car was really good. We got a bit confused there in the middle of the race where we had to not be able to fuel up the car. But other than that, I mean, we're setting up for the whole day and we put ourselves in a great position and just capitalized at the end and kudos to Carla's.
Well, I know you were looking forward to your first win here in the Daytona 500, but today was not going to be tonight. They didn't. This is Jeff. I want to go back to this last couple of reboots. You talk about your teammate named Bush. You guys have a conversation there with Chris Gay, share with your new crew chief what to do on that last restart, you saw where Kyle Busch picked inside time before he got the lead. So this time you had to make a decision, trying to figure out how to get in front of him.
Was. When he gave me the cap. He literally he was doing some joy in my mind, thinking, My playbook said, Always go for the top no matter what. It doesn't matter who's behind you, it doesn't matter. I mean, that's what I'm saying. I was in front of the front row of so many restarts and lost because I was at the bottom and felt like I had a chance to jump in there. You know, obviously, there were circumstances that happened behind us, the lobbyists to be at the forefront of caution. But I feel pretty good about being on the top lane at the time, obviously we thought it was the best idea for us.
You know, he asked me about me pulling down in front of him on the final reset. I was fine with that because I thought between him and the twenty-two, we were going to push better and it worked out well for us. Thank you. Don't go celebrate. Well, I'm gonna hate tomorrow, but I'm a joy to love. Every second that Kyle Busch, his teammate, finishes second, has been a swell. Kyle Busch has won everything at Daytona except the five hundred. And you were right there. You made a deal with your teammate Denny Hamlin for that last restart.
Was that the difference? Would you do it a second time differently? Um, I don't know, strength in numbers. You know, we're trying to protect at least one of our cars so he can get to Victory Lane. And I felt like we were able to do that by being able to do what we did in that last reboot. But overall, it's, you know, certainly bittersweet. You know, it's amazing to see a J to G R Victory Lane car for Jo and J. D and everything. That's gone this offseason with all that. But it's very, very bittersweet for everyone at Eminem's and Interstate Drums and Skittles and Snickers and all of those supporters and all of the guys on my team who worked so hard to try to get to Victory Lane for us and try them out.
You know, our Daytona 500 Victory, you know, he has that I don't have any. But, uh, sometimes it's part of it. And then we just have to move on to go to the next time. You seemed afraid to accept that plan when it was presented to you. In retrospect, do you wish you had run it like before? Oh yes and no. I mean, again, trying to make sure that at least one of us makes it to Victory Lane is first and foremost, and, um, you know, after that, you try to run off and see what you can do for yourself. yourself and your team.
But, you know, there weren't enough cars out there. Actually. I mean, there were six cars running at the end. I don't know if anything would have been different. Really, if anything would materialize. I think we would all have been stuck next to each other, given that I would have been outside or something. So it's so hard to tell. I do not know howIt would have worked, but I'm not going to worry about it. Thank you, Kam. Thanks, Vincent. Another bit of irony. But Denny Hamlin and Eight Seven wrote that letter saying he wanted to win the Daytona Five Hundred.

You know this super cool and Ryan priest behind me and fastest in trim races and quarter midgets a silver city quarter midget club usa connecticut and they'll race against each other in a Daytona five hundred power to cool this thing he's got him pushing me behind his man has he ever been that wordy?
He thinks about the wind. Hey, he gave me the push. I needed to get to eighteen. I only needed one more push to reach eleven. I just didn't have enough to get Ernie three eleven. But, um, you know, proud of the effort and drive that these, uh, Mustangs really show with the Shell Pennzoil team, so I'm proud in that way. I scored a lot of points this week while we were here, some, although it's not about points at Daytona. I say it all the time. It's about doing the puppet show that Danny is doing behind me right now and winning this.
So congratulations to them. They kept their cars in one piece on the day. They worked together. Well, so, um, yeah, they beat us, but, uh, we're still proud of the speed we've got in our race car.
