prototype

s that could be worth

million

s, I mean,

they

cost car companies

million

s to produce, but instead of getting into a bunch of rhetoric about history, just look at this guy who

find

s a '71 Mustang for sale on eBay and reviews it. and

find

out the

prototype

cool story of him hey bob perkins now that you have the one and only

1971

boss

302 a real factory prototype what are you going to do with it selling it you better not no i can't you can't print this you can't mr. It's okay, everyone say the name of the Garden. I'm Andy HAP Perkins Paul Williams ok what's a good time for this store but the one and only Jerry's?

I'm Andy Hack and I'm the guy who just sold the

1971

boss

302 to about perkins, who in 2004 was looking on eBay to buy a '71 Mustang fastback. you will believe but this car looks like the prototype car back in 1971 the boss 302

they

never built and i realized the vin number was one zero zero zero five three and i agreed to buy the car the car was in san francisco at the time and I shipped it to Wisconsin after I got the car on I looked at the picture as I look at the pictures in the magazine I looked at the pictures on eBay Jerry when I found out what car it was and talked to Marty Auto Works there was a fellow who worked for Kevin Marty and on the phone he said to me we have very important information about your car and I said it's not st olen it is and he said no no nothing like that and I said is this the boss 302 they never built 471 and he said they built it and you have it just one yes is that I was in jefferson swap meet and i saw 71

mustang

so i'm thinking on board no ford parts here i go lemme let's listen to your magazine ok now jerry now what did he really say to you when he found out that that was the car i can't remember everything but but i know i was very happy ok the best part is these cars no one restored them if someone had restored this car 25 years ago we would have nothing no one would have figured out what it was or would have done it.

More Interesting Facts About,

million dollar boss mustang prototype barn find 1971 boss they didn t make...

It's been too late, you know, if we

didn

't have these things on the car like now, it would have been very difficult to document, like the door tag was missing and now we're going to find some interesting things when we strip the paint off the engine bay. I'm sure I know a guy says, does he know who's looking in his magazine? he says it's t Ford guy Mustang guy says no I don't know any Mustang guy well what we want to show is that the 71 boss 302 was so far along and in production that replacement parts services were already listed in auto parts and service catalogs.

Can you give me some examples and give you a couple of examples? We took a photo of the page showing the 71 Boss 302 exhaust system. It showed the unique H-pipe and muffler assemblies with all the part numbers. All of those part numbers are listed on the Ford. parts man they had to spend millions of

dollar

s developing and certifying that car they know they have to do all the testing with the car on the test track they have I'm sure they have to meet the standards and federal guidelines with regards to emissions and all of this had to be done, you know, I'd say a little bit before the first day of production started, so they had to do all of those parts, they had to have all of the items that were in the parts catalog, like the stripe kits, you know, because they had a unique bender and a badge on the trunk lid for the boss 302. look at some parts, yeah Andy, think of some parts, so what parts do you have for this boss 331?
million dollar boss mustang prototype barn find 1971 boss they didn t make
Practically everything. He wanted to show Andy each tube. He had seven of these to choose from. well that's kept for the year the original part number tag and what's really nice on this one the engineering number instead of being stamped here on the edge where it's hard to see once you slide the pipe in the engineering number is stamped correctly. up here so what's different about this h-pipe is one for a 70 Buster on the left side exhaust manifold instead of going back down the clear steering of the new style 71 pair if anyone came in two or got one of those one part deal would still fit a 70 buster or two not 71 boss 302 only but you found it at a ford dealer right?
Do you think there were people who missed him? 99% of this inventory up here was a mistake made by a poor parts manager and I look here and I saw the 71 Mustangs intro and sure enough it has a picture black and white picture of the real thing missing yeah yeah find the picture here ok all five of these muffler systems or muffler assemblies are for 71 boss 302 will the 70

dollar

ones shed? They will fit but won't have a correct engineering number ok some of those were probably sold to the public yes and then new old stock left and right pair of exhaust tips chrome boss 351 s and rejects 69 70 Boss 302 toys and 429 had rejected so this is the only boss that had factory chrome tips are the ones on there now the ones that come on the cart are the originals so i have t The complete exhaust system for the new old stock jumpers.
Here is the box on the new 71 intake manifold. It is on my show engine there in the showroom. It is not strange. What is the number d1z e94 24? 70 could be yes but it's actually different the ports are a little different so ford engineering did a little different on a 71 the heads are a little different for your mission passages than on a 70 ok , the exhaust manifold is a single part number on the right. On the other hand, what are you saying in this 302 boss that this exhaust manifold is just a little different but unique to the 71 so don't delete the steering box so it was never actually used on any production car, except in this one? happens to be a whole new set of black stripe kits for the boss 302 how are they different from the 70s totally different from the seventies they have the big stripes you know see stripes on a 69 and this is more like a 71 Mach a boss style 351 straight t yeah looking here we're looking at the air filters it shows it lists the 71 boss 302 with ram air as a d1 ZZ 9600 B ok bob pointed out it has the ram air or something that is unique it has the ram air assembly which is unique to a 71 boss 302 and this particular car we are talking about today we don't know that it was not originally produced with a ram air because it shows ram air on some of the invoices and still has the unique springs from ram air in the hinges so in all likelihood when the car was produced it originally had ram air in it probably had that type of assembly and then for some reason to show the car in Las Vegas the hood was changed and they went to a pen blackout We are trying to emulate the 69 Boss 302 and they removed there were no hood pins or ram air a flat flat hood the springs are still the springs on these are the springs that actuate the hood the springs that control the hood when you raise it is the right one on the hood spr hood If you had ram air to hold up the heavier hood do you have any of those special 71 bus route hood springs in there on the car?
Take a photo of the ones in the car shop. you're not a round coil and if we go and look at one of those seventy three convertibles the whole thing will be rounded not be flat and then the heavier duty spring will hold the extra weight what are you thinking those parts that don't? I don't have those parts, right? I don't have those parts and I was very glad Bob told me he did because he knew it would be one of his original display units that needs to be traded in before it can be sold. We need your help and I am also advising on a future 1863 claim bill one of five is zero zero zero five three shows body type OR five shows engine as our windshield on patent plate one fo2 g100 fifty three shows the body type like o two shows the engine like g that's the the telegraph they are shown telegrams showing for them to change the shiny trio to engine code to a boss 351 engine code the car the first invoice shows on the label of the door the car was born uh 1971 boss 302 Jerry this one has it this is the first invoice we have for the car and this is dated August 4th 1970 and the car was actually built on August 3rd which It's a monday but the company released it on the 4th and that's when this document predicted what ends and shows there and this one says eight cylinders. but it says 351 four-barrel because by now they had already changed it to an F five our meaning mach1 boss 351 so the paperwork was changed in the office even though the car had already been built the day before it has the boss 302 the next ending was ok max bill is dated dec 21st so if you compare the dates the car sat sitting for at least four months doing nothing we think it was at the los angeles assembly plant and was finally reinforced and now the prices are listed on that whereas the first one had no prices when i went to the car show in vegas and at this point they call it a 1 if all five are so they still call it a mach one and call it a boss 351 and from the opposite is silvus all the same options that were on the first sheet but they are starting to change the option package it's kinda the same gear but just different ways to package it because they haven't decided how to package it yet ran. i'm going to do that what's the third bill okay the next bill is dated january 8, 1971 it still bears the mach 1 and our code designation some of these are just changing which dealer is going to sell the car the last bill they it was going to be sold to Villa Ford atma California it was Orange California they decided to redirect it says field bypass and instead it was sold through Wilson Ford sales in Huntington Beach California and that's where the car actually ended up and , again this has different pricing and different packaging all the same teams just reshuffled and I'm sure they were getting ready to decide which dealer would get the car and how it would be set up ok so there are two additional invoices telling us very little because they are just internal credits from one dealer to another because they redirected who was going to sell the car.
The final bill is here. It is dated February 25, 1971. This is when Ford finally gave approval to sell the car to Huntington. she to Wilson Ford. sales in Huntington Beach California now here's Reeve in the car 1f or 2h which

make

s it no longer Mach 1 just a sport top no longer a boss it's an H code it's a 351 Cleveland to girl it's still a sequential number one zero zero zero five, three and I probably have a page memorized yeah and one of the things that really sold me on the car was Andy has and while they're outside now there's a couple pictures of the Boss 302 engine car in the car so that we know it wasn't just a sticker show where they canceled the car before they put the engine in it that was really important and I can remember my comment when Andy showed me the picture of the boss 302 engine in the car photo of Factory That's when I said okay I've seen enough how much it is and that's what I needed That was probably from the time I first heard about the car until I bought it.
I want to see a factory photo of a Boss 302 engine in a '71 Mustang and that just put me on edge then I realized it has to be the car because you might have my say when the car went to Vegas like a boss 351 probably still had the boss 302 engine and they never lifted the hood look it has been leaded solid look there is a seam between the rocker and side panel and it was actually a door post left all solid hey i got a good one ask where is the rev limiter right now for boss like me can i show you the holes where it was actually mounted yes one two three yes it has the original w FD tag which is boss 302 350 traction lofton you know it has that on the stream i think it has an apple stream two stamped on the year it also has the r ug AV or tears only boss 302 while boss 351 i think that would have been our ug BJ yeah i hear some giggling here y'all yeah , are you disco ncertados by the numbers that I heard pocket per day, yes that? it was a weird fight for the jefferson trade meet five bucks you know they not only had to have pilot cars for boss 302 they had to develop that stuff so we know there was at least one woman ok so you're not But about an hour away while he's restoring this car, will you be able to come over and look at it?
Are you going for a ride on it? for the camera and I said I would, but now I think he's checking that I will. I'll finally be able to see the car when you see the two black marks on the eraser yesterday when I turned on the spark plug wires to

make

sure it worked right now they would ruin my image. I'm not supposed to drive anything or everything I own to be pulled off the trailer, but I'll tell you this car will be going in and out of Schofield's and it will be aracer the name of the story was the reflection of the million dollar

mustang

but i still find that you're still looking for that elusive yeah you're getting the window
