Everyone, welcome to the channel if you want. If you're new here, definitely consider subscribing, so today we have my friend Matt's four-door civic, he has a turbo and is very fast, but it doesn't look good and he wants to give it a new paint job. He's had this car for 10 years and the paint really needs some attention, so he has some replacement panels that he bought and already scratched them. He worked from 220 to 400 to smooth all this out. He has some small dents here and there, but those will be pdr. Later on we won't use putty, but we're basically going to take the whole car apart, the doors are coming off, basically everything that can come off is coming off and then we're going to do the door jambs and it's going to be a pretty long process, but I'm going to try to let you guys enjoy watching it like I normally do, so let's prepare all this and the primer that we're actually using are cans of turbo paint, so there's a lot of primer here and this paint. turbo works great, covers great and has a nice smooth finish every time it's used, so we get them at a local place called home base, it's basically Like at Home Depot, we get most of the

metallic

paint too there and then the other

metallic

paint we got from Walmart and yes, this is a lot of paint, we don't know how much you're going to need, so we get more of what we don't use.

You can remove it, we are also putting a maximum 2k clear

spray

on top. This actually has a hardener that activates. This is exactly like paint from a spray gun that you just put in a can, so we're basically going to activate it, shake it up, and you. I have about 48 hours to use it, but you can extend it if you don't need to use it all like we have it here in this freezer. We have a can that I used on my yellow headlights and it's still good as long as you freeze it, but yeah, in order to use that paint again we'll need to heat up the can before using it or it will spray like shit, so that's what we're going to do too.

With these cans: warm them before using them. that way you don't have a lot of orange peel, a lot of people don't realize that this won't make the orange peel bad if the cans get hot, so we're just going to boil some hot water and put the cans in. the hot water and allowing them to basically absorb the heat now the boiling water won't be on the stove when we put the can on it I thought I'd mention that there are some people who have done it and they told me they exploded but uh yeah we're basically going to pass the time to take it apart, take it all off and set it up and then when it comes to the metallic

blue

, we're going to go over a few more things so if you haven't hit the subscribe button yet, hit it. the like button and I hope you enjoy the video.
I, uh, uh, uh, come on, oh, so, ah, okay, after two days of work and 20 cans of blue, which is a lot, by the way, we also had seven cans. the other can is in the freezer because it wasn't completely empty, so we're going to freeze the 2k can that way it can still be used, that's how you can use it again the next time you use it, although you'll have to. heat the can or it will spray like shit so we use that primer and we use three cans of that or four I think four actually yeah that's for the other ones up there but 20 cans of blue and the

results

are pretty surprising now.
It needs sanding and wet polishing because there is a bit of orange peel that can be seen right there, but that's for another video altogether, it looks amazing. I love that deep blue. Now I'll put a little video clip right here. He exposed it to the sun and it's just amazing how it turned out, so we had to figure out the method that worked best. What I can tell you is to apply the light coat first and then let it dry for about five to five. Ten minutes and then going over it with a thicker coat keeping the trigger pressed all the way in and out of the panel is the best way to not stop in one spot or slow down because the metal flakes will settle in that spot. but when you take it off it's amazing as you can see that moisture that needs to be sanded and wet polished, that's where the can was.
One of the cans was really bad. I think it was a defective can, but what do you think? I think it's amazing ten years. So in ten years it looks great now these little dots here can be modified so it's no big deal we didn't want to putty on it and he ended up saying it looks very yellow on camera but these are a bronze gray let me see if you focus there, but yeah, he went with the gunmetal gray to match the wheels and it looks amazing. We'll also do the engine bay in gunmetal gray, so it should look really nice when we do it.
Now that we're done, the hood and roof are the hardest panels to photograph, mainly because of how big they are, so I had to go through like three or four cans on the hood alone and the roof was about the same, so basically we keep doing it. light light layers all the way until it starts to look full once you put the clear on top it looks absolutely amazing. I'm super happy with the result and he is too. He's been wanting this done the way he said he did for 10 years. and I'm glad I was able to do it for him and help a friend, so he helped a lot on this too, so I was yelling at him because this is too much for me to do alone, I mean we did the same thing as you.
I have seen all the door frames and they look absolutely incredible, a little harder to see on this side but the door frames look very very good from start to finish and everything was reassembled there and is now go well because you have a lot. of power in him and he looked like shit, so he did it, he was the definition of like a sleeper, yeah, but now he looks as fast as he is, so he also has these little decorative pieces here, um, but he's just going to Usa the ones that stick and will look good.
It's something he wouldn't recommend. I'm not going to do it again. It was too much. This is probably the toughest metallic blue or spray paint job I have ever had. I've done it a few times, but the results speak for themselves, they are amazing, but we will try to get you a video of the wet sanding and polishing, it depends on how things go, no promises, but we will try because it will definitely look great. much better once it is wet sanded and polished because the orange peel is quite aggressive and yes i highly recommend the 2k clear from spray max this thing was very difficult to photograph and was amazing but if you are going to use this primer be sure to wet sand after it is completely dry with a 400 grit and make sure it is very smooth.
We didn't do that and that's probably why the clear coat has so much orange peel, but it's not a big deal, you can wet sand it and we polish and put two coats of clear on everything, two thick coats, I could add of clear, so which is probably the equivalent of at least four light coats, four light coats of 2k, but I hope you enjoyed the video, it was a long, long process. We're tired and ready to go to bed, so I'll see you in the next video. If you liked it, subscribe to the channel, if you haven't already and hit the like button.
