MATHEWS V3 BOW BUILD

May 31, 2021
Uh, what's going on? Everyone, welcome to the new version of the Matthews arc v3. It's the end of August right now, which is crazy. I even got my hands on this type of bow. um, very early, but it's awesome because I get to play with it. I can

build

it and prepare it for you guys to see when we release it, so in this box, of course, I already opened it, but this is the new v3 for Matthews and this is their long version, they also have a 27. axle, but this is going to be my bow for the west so today what we're going to do is go over some features but we're going to set it up completely from start to finish um to a bullet hole and hopefully a group at about 60 yards and see how we do, so let's just dive in literally, I haven't done anything to this arc, I'm just working on my 29 or my 28.

So I have to get out here. One thing about this arc from the beginning is that it's a parallel arc, um, so the limbs lunge out past parallel, like in the vxrs and stuff, they were more like parallel and then inward, but these are already beyond parallel, so use a The correct bulb pressure is really important. I love the last chance archery press and Matthews is really cool and they have these little cutouts that they fit into, that one's not right. Now come on, they fit like this, so the first thing we do is What I'm going to do is screw, oh actually, I don't even need the vise yet, but we're going to screw everything that we're going to need into the arch.

More Interesting Facts About,

mathews v3 bow build...

I'm going to go over what I'm going to use. year, um, so the first one is a Trinity Hunter Pro, go ahead and put it on. I've been running this for two years. I had it on my vxrs I had it on my weights um and they're both really good compatibility wise so I actually went with a gray color they're different colors if you didn't know you can get on the hamskis and they send you a sick sticker which sits right there, so mounting these props is pretty easy as well, you don't really even need a bow vise or anything to put them together, but um hamski hunter pro, leave the rest, we have to attach it to the limb.

I'm not going to explain how I do it now, so in v3 it's pretty standard like other bows, get confused for a second, it's pretty standard. On other bows, there is a large center bolt that may go right to the side. There will be some paint there, which is totally fine if it's new and you've never had a bolt there before, so it will be a little difficult at first. just make sure you don't cross them, you just want to get past that painting, adjust it, it fits pretty well, even with this, one of my concerns is that Matthews has this new cable car going down, what that essentially does is it's perfect. in the center of the cables instead of the cable protector coming straight out and then being higher up compared to, you know, the same distance on the cable, so it's down, but we have room, it's rubbing a little bit on this one. plastic shelf, but that's totally fine and probably once I take the rest out to tune it it'll probably be fine, so next step I'll put it on the bow press because it's very easy to operate with it at breakfast.
mathews v3 bow build
We have our cable right here, we have our turnbuckle. system, I guess because I don't know what this is called, you need to back off a little bit, especially on these shorter shaft real bows, you don't want a bunch of extra failures, so keep it that way, I'm going to put the O-ring back on. so I don't lose it, which I do, which is actually August Hamski, he just released this cool little stand that actually replaces this clip on the bottom and if you've seen my stuff before, I really like to open it. this clip, if I can find the right allen, I like to open this clip and put this string underneath here because it creates the wrong shape.
I'm going to create a very bulletproof way to secure the rope to your limb instead of just tying it to the limb by putting a sticker on it so it doesn't slip, it's pretty bulletproof if you do it that way, but by loosening it or replacing it doesn't do anything to the bow, so it's totally safe. It doesn't do anything, I haven't noticed any difference, you just want to make sure you tighten them again equally when you do this. I think there's a little bit of loctite or something in these, so it's a little hard to get these out and I never get them all the way out.
I just loosen them enough so I can put the rope underneath. Yeah, there's definitely loctite or something in them. Okay, that should be fine, so now I just grab the rope. fits, yeah, here we go, we put it under just like that and what I actually do before I tie it I'll put it right in the middle, give it a good tension, put it right in the middle and then tighten it. until it's tight and then once it's tight I'm going to tie knots and tie it as a secondary precaution because when you break this thing completely, it's really crushing this rope and it's not going to come loose, but I still like to tie it and then also when you tie it it gives you extra rope in case something happens, like you have all this extra length and rope once you tie it, yes this is a little tedious but in my opinion it's much easier and much more.
I guess it's durable and it gives you another way if you want to tighten it, let's say you need a solid piece of string, like you lose this adjustment piece and all you have is like a shoelace that you're climbing up from the mountains that you have. to use your shoelace to tighten it back up, you can just run it over here loosen it, tighten it, tighten it and there we go, that's pretty tight, I don't think you want to tighten it like crazy, you never want to. go crazy with anything on the archery bow so boom that's there and then all I do is half hitches so you can tighten it up with super easy knots like I said it just allows you to have this little bit of extra string on in case something happens or goes wrong or you have to use it for something else, I think this is even diluted material, so you can make your d loop from this.
Don't quote me on that, but it really seems like it's okay, so here we are. Getting to the end here, I'm going to take some pliers, grab it, squeeze it really hard, then I'm going to take a razor blade, a dull razor blade, I'm going to take my lighter and make it like a D-loop, flatten it out. against there and that thing is not going anywhere there you have a hampshire rest installed it is not tuned it is not centered but it is installed and it is tight how to check if your hampshire rest is tight enough just pull it if the rest do you don't move down or anything, you're done and then how this little adjustment works, we just give you a tour down and show it, but you can loosen it all the way up, it just tightens against itself, you can slide it all out. the way you squeeze it it squeezes against itself and then this little rubber thing is just a safety mechanism to keep it from coming off and what I've done in the past instead of this little rubber piece is I'll actually take serving material and I'll just serve on top.
That I do know that it's going to be a little bit more permanent and what I'll probably do actually right now is I'll see how there's a big gap here like I've gone through a lot of laps so there's a lot here and if I backed out right now there's a chance. for that to come apart, so what I'm going to do is take service material and just give it some half blows to hold it together. I've done it in the past and it works really well, just one of those things like when you're hunting and you know one big thing that made me nervous first, using a limb powered stand and a rope, you know, an extra piece of rope and something extra to take away.
The bad thing is that I thought: What would happen if I were in the middle of drawing? I backed out and it came loose and hit a branch, which has never happened, let's just say it did, so you know, this kind of aid helps prevent that with that extra rope. there so this is very easy under the knots just go over and then under and then once you're done you remember which direction you went you just go in the opposite direction to make a square knot tighten that down, use a dull razor blade. cut your strings and then burn them, perfect, okay, now we are going to put everything on the bow, so let's put on a side stand that I have to remove from my vxr.
We are taking apart my vxr and putting it on. in the new v3 because the season is almost here, I mean, we're leaving, we're heading west very soon, so okay, I'm going to take this off. I'm going to use the same site I've been running for six years. Excel's awesome Accu Touch site established this for now, it will probably be taken down. I might switch out and record some things with it just so I can get a quick response time on videos, but we'll see that's still TBD. because it's only August which is still crazy, I have the new Matthew in my hand, okay let's put this stand up, this is super easy, I don't really need to explain this at all, there's a little bit of paint on that one just in the process. of them painting the bands and then touching the screw holes, sometimes there is a little bit of paint, so don't be scared, okay, let's put the side on.
I have a quick summary, this is the sharp touch of Excel like me. I already said that I have the ultra v2 scope with the hunting kit inside the ten thousand pin, which is pretty new for the time in August, but come November when you're looking at this, it's not too new, so there it is that um. man, I haven't talked this much in a long time, we have the advantage of being an edition with a real stabilizer, we will open them. I'm running nine inches in the rear, 12 inches in the front, it comes with two custom yellow coated stabilizer weights, so all you need to put them on is loosen this limb protector shock absorber.
I'm pretty sure this is a very long bolt. Yes, you just have to loosen it completely. In fact, I'm going to add a little more weight than just these two that you can get. more weight if you want to get them you can get more weight on the um schrute archery website here we go we gotta go black and yellow yellow black yellow I'll do four ounces in the back we'll start with that see how that new bow feels , you never know how it's going to feel so screw it back on and then this is the 12 inch one that I use on the front and I've already put these weights on before, oh no I can't let it go seriously.
Well, I want more weight than that, so I'm going to steal the one from my BXR, I guess, again, oh yeah, we'll do this one, this one has sneaky cells. Tungsten weights, I believe they are 1.5 ounces. It could totally be. I'm wrong about that, but they are a little smaller. Tungsten is a heavier metal. Well, now to install the side support we will place the vise again. It is easier to operate with the press. This is the sneaky side atlas stand you can get too. it's on the Matthews edition, so if you just go to Matthew's website, you can get it right on the website shipped right to your door.
This is a bolt that you can turn because you don't want that thing to come loose, here we go. I know I'm going to want this to fit a little bit super adjustable oh wrong one here we go okay now I'm going to need the down angle of my vxr again let's go ahead and take this off I run a uh I think it's an 8 degrees down I just like the way it feels um it's about the feel of running it's a straight degree down what I mean by a degree down this quick disconnect has an angle um so your stabilizer actually sits it's like an angle down so this creates a different feel it corona friend I hope corona is over by the time this video is posted I'm just saying if I say corona at that point it's actually not relevant anymore it'll be fun okay tension in this, super easy, it's just a giant bolt that goes in the front. but with these low angles it's important that you have it aligned at 100 because if you don't your gimbal will move left or right, which is interesting, you can play with that and you get a different feel, but for the La most of it you want it clear, okay, let's move on.
Put on our quick disconnect. It's a sweet looking bow. It's kind of a sweet look when he's naked, but once he has everything on, it really makes him look sweet. Hell yeah, oh, next we have to put a b. -roll grip um, the v3s have the grip on, so if you want to put a non-original grip like the ultra b-roll grip, you can do that, so we have a new one here, open it up, I never opened one of these new ones. above before the signature, I've signed, that's my actual signature, um, there's the grip, it looks super cool, so this is actually a good tutorial on how to put them on because we get questions about it from time to time, just take a corner of this. grip, pull up and out and there's a ton of stickiness on it so you have to keep working to remove the stickers, take it off like this, that's the trigger grip, it's gone but now look at all this gunk there . here you just take your thumb and take it all off, it's important that you do this because if you put the b-roll grip on with this you may not be able to take it off, so if you want to leave it on forever that's fine.
You can still keep this crap on, but we recommend removing everythingthis glue and it's not really like glue, it's the sticky dots that they use to mail things and all that, so really no, you can't use any tools. with it because you don't want to scratch it, you literally just take your finger off, take it all off, it's like snot, big glue, hamburger snot, matthews snot, okay so take the grip and put the top end first especially with this hamster , you need to put the top on first, then it clips into place and if there are 95 ties, it should be tight, you don't have to do anything if it's not tight, sometimes it's different. finishes or model bows you have to put duct tape the black duct tape on each side and then put it on and see if it's tight, if it's not tight you put another layer, so instead of using some kind of glue or double sided tape .
What works best is to just thicken the riser so it fits snugly, there we go, it looks great, okay, now we need to put everything on the bowstring, so let's twist this. We need to get 100 90 degrees 90 degrees of the The rope goes directly through the hole of the burger, so let's see how you use these two clamps for that, put it on the rope and then you need to use the arrow that you are going to hunt with, make sure that is not a random arrow. and then actually what I'm going to do is loosen up the hamski grass so that it stands up on its own.
Oh yeah, I'm already going to have to move the hamski bracket to the left. You can see how crooked the arrow is. That's how they present the hamski rest, it's way out, so you can set the center plane of a Matthews to be about 13 16 of an inch, so if you take a ruler and measure 13 16 to the edge of the riser for the center of the arrow should technically hit a bull this is all technical so in the case 100 times it's probably not very close press that down okay so roughly we have our good left and right now only 13 16 right next to the vertical band for the center of the arrow, now what we're going to do is take this level, we're going to use our, this is one last chance, press an amazing family business, they make the best bow prices in the world.
I can actually loosen it, turn the whole crown of the bow and too much, align it, tighten it, double check it and tighten it, move it there, we go very close and then you go here, you can see it well by looking there. See now, that's not level, so both strings are level, that's not level and then on top of that, you want to put it right through the burger hole, which is pretty close, so you're just moving the punch toward up and down the rope. so that the arrow reaches level 100 there, oh yeah, see the rest wasn't all the way up, make sure the rest is up to the level of your shooting position, pretty close to the level there, right across the top end of the hamburger hole, so Let's leave this down just a touch, let it drop, make sure the rest is up, everything is level, pretty close, now that's not level, there we go, boom, top end of the hole of the burger, let's try it right there, so now it's okay, make sure. everything is tight on your break and tighten it again and remove all the snaps, but leave your arrow, then you take some service tool and what I do if you look at both

build

s in the past, I make a big one or not a big one, about three or four knots. at the bottom to create my hit indicator so I'm going to come in here and these are just half knots again it's like the most popular thing you can't know in archery and it's super easy to tie a normal knot at the top of the down, so it was two, two rows, it's three and I'm going to tie one more knot at the bottom and I'm going to finish off with a square knot so you remember which way you're doing it, you're doing it in the opposite direction. gird it, take the hit off your arrow, grab the razor from your wrist and then just burn these man tickle gauge now we can do our d-loop I think I'm going to go with the black one so what what I like to do is hit my arrow again it's just kind of a sacred cow of reference, try to remember how I do this without looking, yeah, okay, take your lighter, fluff one end and a trick from jesse broadwater, to him it never likes to burn it just heat it up enough to melt it when you burn it it supposedly deteriorates the material um it doesn't make it that strong so spend a little extra time use the blue part of the flame because that's the lowest heat temperature of heat lower wow, now the lighter is super hot, okay? so once it's burned, we're just going to squeeze it, squeeze it, I don't like to cut this end off yet until I do the other end, just squeeze it with your hand, you can see that knot or that burn it's like a perfect little ball right there , so it will be perfect, so go ahead and do the other side and tie the knots, which I like to do, you can do them on the same side if that's your deal, but you put the knots. the bottom towards you and then or the ball the burnt end on the bottom towards you on the top end away from you and what that does, especially with the hand throws, the trigger throws, it doesn't matter as much because the clamp it lies horizontal with hand throws.
Many times you rotate it allowing those burnt ends to be opposite each other and this way it compensates for the D loop a little. It doesn't matter, it's probably not much like if you did a test at 100 yards. Through the machine it might be noticeable, but I like to do it anyway, so we're going to make our D loop a little bit shorter like this because it's not completely tight. What we're going to do now is take our knife. blade let's cut it a little bit more I need to get a new razor blade let's fluff it up it looks pretty good so what I also like to do is you want some room for your stroke there you don't want it to be super tight so see if you can get close to this match, it shows how much movement I like the punches to move, you know, just a little bit, because when you step back you're going to experience some pinching, so we want a little bit of punch play, new.
Serving too probably if I had the time and I wanted to, I would probably reserve this for maybe a little bit smaller portion for these punches, but it'll be fine once it wears down, so we're going to grab our Easton pliers that have these little little shaped cutouts. D on them are super convenient, but you don't need them, just use some regular pliers, we're just going to stretch them a little bit. Put our punch back, double check, a little movement, okay, squeeze. Get back down there, that's a pretty cool d-loop. Next is the peep sight, so I have a raptor peep, the 160 or the 3 16, I think, so we're just going to press the bow.
To guess, guess where this will be height wise for me, separate the chain from the screen, this little blue piece here is 100% true center of the chain, especially if you get solid chain colors like I do, it's important that you keep it there, let's see. How do I put this? It's always a bit of a mind game. I really should have put the view side first because I would have stretched the rope and then put the d loop in, but it's really no big deal. I just had to change the d loop, oh, and then before we forget, let's tighten this again with these two hands, there we tightened it good and the Allen wrench was still in, we'll probably check that it's tight, now to what go.
What I need to do is check the height of my sight, so switch me over and I'm just not going to shoot because the sight isn't linked or anything, but I'm just going to go back and check the height of the sight set. it's actually pretty decent, this needs to go down, you need to move the sight if you have a single sight tape pin, you need to move it to the center of your sight tape to align your sight with the center of your sight tape, well, even if it's completely al upside down, that feels good, so what we're going to have to do is put it in the vise and completely change my viewing spot to 180. so I'm just going to pick it up, spin it around, okay, so now I'm going to do a bit. tie it to make it safe to shoot, you never want to shoot a bow without a sight tied on it, so I'm just going to tie some quick knots, use the overhand knot at the top, not the bottom, not the top. they make a square knot at the bottom, there we go, okay, we're pretty close to setting this up completely, so now all we're going to do is shoot it through the paper and see what kind of tear we make.
Come on, let's go from there, okay, if I get a bullet hole, everyone owes me a dollar, that's all I'll say right away, but that really happens, it's not impossible, but rarely, yeah, buddy, look to that sacred cow, guys, that's nice. smoking, okay now, that's not it, this is your typical yona pro shop, you shoot a bullet hole that close and you get a bolt of lightning, that's it, but what really shows is when you go eight feet away showing maximum movement. of the arrow, so now we're going to do that, it probably won't be able to hold if we back up that far, that's fine, that's fine, stay there, let's shoot from down here, what was this?
Yes, okay, yes. So you can see now, I have a slight left here, slightly, very slightly, so let's move the rest, let's move the rest to the right, slightly, see what that does, but I mean, guys, that It was super, super easy, that could have done it. It's been too much, squeeze it again, okay, try again, it looks pretty good, it's this one, right? I think so, man, I think we can do a little better than that, although that's almost perfect, let's just do anything, just a little bit to the right it's like that's money now, man, that could have been the most easy, I don't know if I'm getting better or if it was super easy, but it was super easy, hmm, man, that's pretty good.
I'm going to call that a rap, how long is that 35 minutes?, 40 minutes, maybe practically non-stop, there was nothing like, wait, I have to figure this out, that was non-stop, setting up this arc is pretty impressive, it's well, well, we. We're outside now we're going to take a little break um we're outside we're going to shoot from 20 yards we'll just walk back to the end and see how this thing groups up it's pretty windy right now so this isn't going to be like a real test , but it will be nice to get out and photograph some maps.
Hopefully, I don't know. Okay, I'll definitely have to move left and right. That's really strange. Your audio is going crazy. Can you say probably? Pretty decent, those are pretty decent, okay, I feel like it's a little quieter, what do you think I mean? I think when we filmed it inside Matthews it was pretty quiet, I think the only buzz I hear is like my eyesight is great. to record it next to your vxr yes that would be a good video yes as in its own comparison why should you upgrade? I have to check the weight of this too, shooting it pretty flat.
I'm going to grab an Allen wrench and fix this. real quick, okay, still there, it has a different vibe, it's quieter, they sure don't have rhyme or reason where they are this time, although I think one of these was the last one, so we're getting close to the halfway point. We're back at 65 yards right now pretty quick to get back to 65. This time though we should be able to see how good of a group we can get together, looks good, look how closely that grade matches, the hamski matches the lift, definitely I'm glad. Is that okay?
The straight life right in the middle was perfect. I feel there is a humming noise coming from my place. You hear it. It's like a yes. It's a pretty nice group down there. A bit. else um, then we'll do a final specification. I guess I want to check the weight of this so far, although it's definitely quiet. There is a small hum that I think is coming from my site. Something is loose. I'm going to say it's not like a bow. buzz like normal initial impressions though true i already took this a bit before a different one but my own b3 has a nice style ok let's check them out ok so not bad this was my first arrow . move the view, I think this one just I took advantage of it, so this is a real group, good shots in the middle, it's kind of okay.
I already gave it a couple of clicks. I'm going to try to find where that rattle is. I'll shoot one more and then I'll shoot a lot more. It was because we had to prepare, but finally the pump is ready to break in a couple of weeks, so this little slicker end cap that was loose took us a second, but if you ever have a strange rattle, be sure to check. I guess that's okay, so I moved it to the right last time, let's see how we do this, although yeah, a lot quieter, okay, that's better, not a bad group down there, a little low, but let's Pull them, don't go. about some specs it can't be done so it's not bad but this one was definitely due to the wind and then initially this was my first arrow and I moved my site since then so if we go withpure accuracy that's more like the group that when the shots broke they hit right in the middle so like I said it's windy literally the first 10 shots or let's see 12 shots off the arc or so so I'm super happy with that, but let's jump in, go over some. specs and the type of what I'm going to run this year, okay, it's new for this year.
I'm running Easton pro competitions um I'm going to try them out they're super thin four millimeter carbon on the outside aluminum on the inside so it was definitely designed for a target arrow but Easton designed them what are they made of ? I don't know, titanium. They are made from 50 grain, super strong, super street titanium, so it makes a target arrow practically a hunt. so I'm running it at 450 grains exactly, so it's right in the ballpark of a very medium arrow, it's not very heavy above 500 grains, it's not super light, but it's a good arrow for anything you're going to hunt. mule deer. perfect whitetail elk next let's check the weight of this guy, real quick, I think I bought it at 75 pounds, it should be at 75.
It feels lighter than that so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a little lighter okay , 74.3, let's read it again, yeah, 74.1, so right there 74 75. pounds, which is perfect, I mean, that's what I want to run at 75 pounds, but I'm super excited, I'm super excited to finally be able to configure this arc. I've been looking at it for about a week waiting. Make a video about it, I'm super excited. I can finally share it with you too. Thank you all so much for watching. I will build a version based on the new v3. I can't believe I have it now and it will be in August, so I wait.
At this point, by the time we publish this, I've already shot a few animals with this thing, so that's the goal. Thank you all so much for watching, be sure to visit bowbuilder.com. I'm Matthew's website. I'll see you next time.
