making

a giant s'more with in-person education. As the country shut down, we've teamed up with our friends at IPVO to bring you Teacher Tuesday where we highlight some of the educators who are going above and beyond for their students. Today's teacher is Kiana Funderberg from Atlanta Georgia, who teaches 5th grade math science and social studies. We reached out to Kiana and asked her to share a little about how she's been dealing with the changes this school year and here's what she had to say.

Hi everyone, I'm Kiana Fenerberg and I'm a fifth grade math and science student. and social studies teacher in Metro Atlanta. I am currently teaching hybrid, meaning I teach both in-person and digital students at the same time. That's a big adjustment in itself and a way I've been able to make it happen at this school. year is using a lot of zoom, so what I do in my classroom is, whether you're at school or at home, all the students are on zoom throughout the entire instruction. I have two two-hour blocks in each of those blocks. All of my students are on Zoom while I teach and that helps maintain equity.

In-person and at-home students receive the same instruction. No one has an advantage with their different learning styles. It also allows me to do things that are done in a traditional classroom, such as handover talks, collaborative small groups. I use Zoom breakout rooms so students can still communicate with each other, build that classroom community and give everyone a level playing field in the classroom and that's one way we've adapted this school year to help, we'll send you an ipvo do camera to help her with her remote teaching, so kiana keep an eye on the email while we send you one.

marshmallow

s and we have some supplies I have to give a big shout out to steve's kitchen on youtube because they helped me Find the perfect recipe that gave us will help replicate the perfect graham cracker we all know and love for s'mores, so let's go a

head

and cook on it if you're looking for the recipe that Steve's Kitchen has on YouTube. the perfect graham cracker recipe here is the basic idea we have a bunch of bags of

marshmallow

s we have some kitchen supplies we are going to make our own graham cracker we try to make a giant marshmallow and we make the perfect s'more we want to start In this we want to make a giant s'more, so the first thing we need to do is the graham cracker because it's going to take us some time to figure out what we're doing, so we're going to throw all these marshmallows on the floor.

I'm just supervising for now, so I'm going to double this recipe so we have enough. Because I'd rather have more than not enough. I'm going to be proud of this video. I'm so proud of you right now. Grace, wow, okay, I have to stop looking away, okay, that's why my mom doesn't let me cook in the kitchen, she didn't tell me that she didn't tell me that she wasn't allowed in the kitchen first, one cup of brown sugar. fantastic and now we need to grind this up and create a nice little paste. I bet it would be delicious to put it on toast in the morning so now we're going to add 1 4 cup of honey and I'm okay if we have a little bit more honey because the honey will give it that nice fantastic flavor and then if you want add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, now we are going to mix all this too and if you want to have our flour ready.
I'm sure the multi-purpose won't bother sifting or anything, we're just going to wait and pray here. A teaspoon of baking powder. This is what I missed the last time I made my recipe. It's okay, thanks, we're adults. We are adults we are they we will never be left alone again no no no no that will never happen again we had a chance and we blew it what are we doing now we have to give our marshmallows a bath okay? because they have powdered sugar on the outside that we have to remove so that they become a giant soft marshmallow, we have to coat the inside of this very tightly so that our marshmallows don't stick to the sides because if they stick they are in trouble, so we have the hottest water possible, we're going to wet our marshmallows, try to remove them, and then put them in our heavily coated marshmallow containers.
Yeah, okay, and the only thing I learned is that it's actually the giant toasters that work the best, we tried the mini ones, we tried, yeah, it gets a little crazy, sweet, um, we tried a bunch of different ones, these seem to work better because I think they already have that big shape and they don't expand as much, which was something we were really looking for, thanks, so Callie discovered something interesting, no, come on, yeah, oh no, we're going to cook them at about 150 and put them in There for two hours once one of these comes in.
We're going to take the graham cracker crust, we're going to roll it out, we're going to put it on trays and it's also going to bake itself, so we take out our dough. Callie will strive to extend hers. I'm going to extend mine here and then we're going to create the same line and dots and everything that the graham crackers have, of course, this one is longer and when you make a s'more, what do you do? a long one and you cut it in half and you have these two rectangles new plan we don't have enough graham cracker but we made three marshmallows okay it's great but this doesn't look like graham cracker I have a good feeling I think this is going to be our best option as far as the shape, now we just form it and it's homemade, it might be a little crooked, okay, it's there too and it's just as messy in the kitchen as the first day, it could be messier, yeah, well.
We discovered yesterday what Cali discovered yesterday: it's actually cornstarch on the outside of marshmallows. Nate and I thought it was powdered sugar. It's actually cornstarch. It could be a combination. Cali trying to get the marshmallow out of him. These containers did not release as well as our prototype containers. We did it, let's try to move these marshmallows, roll them in some cornstarch, well Cali pulls out her marshmallow, we went ahead and made these graham crackers, look, we mean Grace, she made them all herself, I'm just going to make next one oh thank you callie guys this is the first thing I've ever cooked just in the tko our kitchen is big and I'm very very proud um so these are graham crackers we used the same recipe and what I What I did was I really I squished them in there, they didn't rise much so I really made sure I got a good graham cracker

size

and you can see the little holes I made.
I actually use the cap of the vanilla extract bottle and then a big fork to make the grid in the center, that's a beautiful looking marshmallow,

your

s looks great, so what I discovered is that they are three bars per cookie and what we are going to do is melt Cali. We bring them down with the blowtorch so that we have a nice layer of chocolate before we put these marshmallows on top, then we will stick the graham cracker on top to make a beautiful s'more over the campfire and this giant s'more idea has Not been done yet over a campfire, it's been done in controlled environments, but not over a campfire.
Okay, but we're going to need Nate's help because these are giant marshmallows. We don't have a big enough roasting bar, but I think Nate made something for us I think we're ready for the campfire song this is my giant marshmallow roaster a trident has three prongs this one has 12 so it's a dent dodeca nate is stabbing our marshmallow we are using the dead one first to see if our the technique is going to work if this is going to work it is working it is happening I must say so far I am very happy with the amount of support I am getting from the roaster well well what about we?
You are doing it very well. very happy with the amount of support I'm getting from my coworkers, yeah okay I'm starting to melt, I think I have a nice brown, oh it sticks to our toaster pretty well, looks great. Guys, wow yeah, take a bite, what a nice crunch. I don't really have a good crunch. Grace, it's in her hair, it was a perfect cake. We did it, guys, if you want to see something more giant-
