I'm changing my color scheme, so the paint I'll be using today is ripple release chalk paint and the color of steel. I'm going to give both pieces a good couple of coats of these, usually when I paint these boxes the wood is very dry so I find that even when I use wave release chalk paint it usually needs at least two coats because that wood really absorbs the paint, so I'm going to give these boxes and drawers two or three coats of paint. I will put them in the oven at about 135 degrees because that is the lowest temperature my oven reaches and they will be dry in about 5-10 minutes.

I'm also going to add some scrapbooking paper from this pack of paper called Brutiful Day by Crafter Square that you can find at Michael's. I love this one, so this is the one I'm going to use. I have cut out a few pieces of this, this is hands down my favorite paper pack. I have cut pieces that are large enough to cover the outside of the box. Now I didn't write down the measurements for this, but it's pretty

easy

. to measure what size you need and just cut it out by hand so I cut out pieces that I'm just going to place in the center of the four sides of my drawers and on the box itself and on the part of the drawer that has the cutout.
I'm going to go ahead and place my scrapbook paper right on top of the cutout. Don't realize it's even there now. Note that you don't need to buy a stack of paper or a pack of paper to make this hobby lobby. Joanne's Michaels has open stock scrapbooking paper that you can get for a dollar, well it's four for a dollar at Hobby lobby so that's where I like to go so you can get creative and make it your own and have a lot of fun with it since then. I have these stacks of paper, that's what I'm using because I don't want to spend more money than I have.
I'm going to distress these boxes and to do that I'm going to use some Tim Holtz distress ink. the walnut stain color and a harder brush to apply it in the last two videos. Some subscribers asked me if there is an alternative way to distress besides using the ink pads. Personally, I find this to be the easiest way to I also found that using oil pastels is an

easy

way to distress. I don't have very good luck using paint. I can't get it to blend. I can't get it to tone properly and that's just a technique. and that's a technique that I don't know yet or haven't mastered yet, but I do master the technique of using an ink pad and a brush to distress and I find that to be the easiest way for me, I think when I DIY.
It's really about finding what works for you so you get the best result, so with this I'm just going to distress the edges of the paper and the box itself to age it and give it that kind of toasted marshmallow

look

if you want. I'm going to incorporate some of this decorative nautical rope that you can get at the dollar tree because I love this stuff. It is very rustic because the thickness of the rope was too thick. I untangled it because there are three pieces. They are twisted together and I'm only going to use two of the three pieces.
I didn't like how thick and bulky it

look

ed using all three pieces, but I still wanted to incorporate this rope and I found it by simply unraveling it and using the two pieces I had the thickness I liked, so I'm going to take the two pieces that are rolled together. I'm going to tie a knot at one end because I'm going to make a handle for my boxes. and I want to make a handle on each side of the box, so I found a size that I was happy with and you can see here what I did with it, so I'm just going to take and place some hot glue. the knots and I'm going to hot glue my handles on each side okay so I'll apologize in advance to those of you who don't want to see this but I had to show you that this is the gnarliest one.
Hot glue burn I have ever had in the history of my DIY while I was gluing the knots Ally called my name and I looked away to see what she wanted and I was pulling the trigger and as I was pulling the trigger the glue came out right on my finger, oh my gosh, it hurt like I've never felt before when I had to remove the glue from this burn, I found out that putting mustard on them ahead of time, that's a trick Kayla taught me from the inside out, really helps. It takes away the sting and I also found that these clear waterproof strips from Nexacare really help because you can put them on and they are waterproof and they stay on your finger and they really protected my finger from air and burns. and then I had one of these, I would say for almost eight weeks because this burn took forever to heal and I will tell you the only thing my doctor told me is not to burst the blister to leave the fluid there as strong as it was.
It was very difficult to I had to do it because I really just wanted to stick a needle in there and pop it, but if you pop it, it will or can cause an infection, so the doctor told me to fight the urge not to pop. and just to keep it covered, keep it clean, so I found the best way to do it was to use these strips and it really was a lifesaver when I burned my hand there in the oven, that one was pretty bad, I used these like well, but the one was in the oven it didn't blister because my skin actually stuck to the burner but with this it took about seven weeks to heal and I no longer have any fingerprints or sensation left on this finger okay let's go ahead and do some.
DIYing for the next step, I bought these milk bottles that I bought at Michael's. They came in a pack of four for four dollars. I love them because they already had the cover. I took them, traced the cover and cut a piece. of my decorative paper just to put on top because I didn't want to paint the top, I thought just tying some scrapbook paper on top would be a nice finishing touch. I'm also going to take some scrapbooking paper and place it along the neck of the bottle just to add more decorative elements, more than just twine.
I thought about making twine, but I already incorporated the rope into this and from this paper bundle of mine. It has a sheet for the belly belt, I thought I would just cut off some of the strips and add them to the top here. I didn't show it, but I did distress the top of the eyelids, as well as a couple of alternatives you can use besides the bottles I bought from michaels would be these dollar tree milk bottles, although they don't have a lid. You could easily put some cling film on top, then put some fabric on it, tie it up and really hit it. that homemade feeling or if you're someone who drinks Starbucks these frappuccino bottles are perfect and you don't even have to paint the lid just place a piece of scrapbook paper on top to cover the Starbucks logo now we need to fill them. with something, so let me show you what I'm going to do.
I thought it would be a fun way to gift Alpine Apple Cider or Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate. How funny is it that you can get a 12 pack box of Alpine Apple Cider at Walmart for 1.98 now I'll tell you that it took all 12 packs to fill a jar of apple cider. As far as the hot chocolate goes, it only took about six packages, but with the hot chocolate I didn't want to fill it all up. On the way up, I filled it to about the point at the bottom of the neck here because I wanted to fill it with more freeze-dried marshmallows.
Now this is a gigantic bag that I bought on Amazon. I bought it with white. and the colorful marshmallows, if you are interested in these you can find the link in my Amazon store in the description box below, so again I thought it would be fun to add more marshmallows on top of this look at how it's fun, This hot chocolate looks amazing, it looks so fun and this hot apple cider is such a fun way to gift these items. Economical is okay too, okay with cuteness or not, let's start putting this together for the boxes before we put the jars in I wanted to add some of these decorative paper pieces that you can get at the dollar tree.
I'm going with the brown because I'm a rustic brown person again be creative make it your own but I thought this brown would be perfect so I don't want to use a white because it was going to be too stark and I thought this was perfect. I'm going to add a little bit to the bottom just to fill some of that empty space, that open space and then I'm just going to put my jars in this box, two of the jars fit perfectly so I thought it would be fun to give away one of each one, the hot chocolate one and the hot apple cider one, okay, okay, wait a minute, did I mention how fun these are?
They are so cute I almost can't bear to finish them. I grabbed more scrapbook paper and there was a page that had these little circles with labels on them, so I cut them out freehand to give them a more finished look. I used some foam tape from Dollar Tree. This is a puffy ribbon that elevates things so I went ahead and put some on the back of the pieces I cut out and to frame or frame them I went ahead and added them. a dark brown cardstock just because I wanted to embellish it a little bit, I think it gives it a more finished look and I went ahead and cut around them in a circular motion.
Did I say that right circular? That's a word I have trouble with. saying my tongue just doesn't want to say it, but I went ahead and cut it because I didn't like the boxy square look and again, we're not going for perfection, we're just going for that handmade, homemade feel. with hot chocolate I feel like you can get away with a perfect, imperfect DIY and these cute labels here that I'm going to put right on the front of the bottles and there you have an adorable, stinky, inexpensive way to gift hot chocolate, apple cider hot. using these dollar tree boxes and the dollar tree milk jugs or your frappuccino bottle or Michael's, if your Michael's is still open now let me show you what I did with the drawers, this is the drawer casing, the outside of the drawer.
I made the rope a little longer now, if you want to use some hot chocolate better because you're giving it to someone who maybe likes Starbucks, you can find these cans at Walmart for about five dollars each, you could even put coffee. in these jars, if you wanted, when you open the cans, the hot chocolate actually comes in a bag, so I went ahead and filled them with hot chocolate from Starbucks and I used my colored freeze dried marshmallows and the white ones, and for these I actually , you can put a bottle in each one, so yes, the smaller one will be a little bit tighter fit, but it still works and again, I'm just going to fill that empty space with the shredded paper because I feel like it really adds to it, I feel which looks too empty without it, so yeah, I just like the way it looks, if you don't, you don't have to, but I really think that now it tops it off really well with these I went a little bit differently for the label because I thought that They would be fun if you added a label that you could actually write from and on, so there you have it, my cheap and inexpensive dollar tree gift idea using these boxes, jars ofmilk, rope.
I would say this could be a 100 dollar DIY tree and this gift idea will cost you less than five dollars and I think it's a really fun way to get these items. I know I sound like a broken record, but I think right now. We are all looking for an inexpensive way to gift and gift this year and I think this is one of the ways you can do it, how rustic and fun these hot chocolate boxes are, there is nothing cuter than that and what a fun way to giving hot chocolate Hot chocolate is undoubtedly one of my favorite things to give for Christmas at this time of year because who doesn't love hot chocolate, who doesn't love receiving hot chocolate as a gift and when you give it like that to anyone He will love receiving it and will think it is so cute.
