ing. aesthetic needs, whether it be overlay panels, alerts, banners, whatever you need, they have it and one of my favorite things about them is that they are all modular, so if you and all your friends go out and buy the alpha game design that you're looking at here, which by the way we did it together, I think it looks really cool. None of you will have the exact same overlay because you can choose the different pieces that you would like to have on yours if you want to do the same one. smart move, like many of the done community feel free to use the link in the description below which by the way helps support the channel so thank you and if you want 40 off at checkout be sure to use the alpha code, so let's talk. about what we're going to do here this is my desktop that I use for things like unboxing and gear reviews experimental things we do here I'd like to turn this into the

What you can do to make your stream look good for next to nothing and we're going to do all of those things so that includes making your camera look good which includes making your lighting look good which in turn makes your camera looks good. We're going to talk about your audio, we're going to talk about control interfaces, a

configuration for the lowest possible cost.

By the way, it's super important because everyone has a different game setup, everyone wants different frame rates if you're playing Animal Crossing. You don't even need 1080p. If you're playing Valorance, you'll want at least 140 frames. So, for PC gaming, PC streaming, PC console, whatever, we're not talking about that, today we're going to talk exclusively about the production of your stream. It looks good to the viewers. It's also really good that we're not using a PC because we have a Ryzen 9 and an RTX 3080 which would really increase the budget that you don't need and that we're not talking about.

Let's start converting this into a streaming setup to be able to do this I had to pick up a couple of things just locally so I headed out to the nearest bass and grabbed some LED ceiling lights and command strip hooks to hang them on, no I knew exactly what. brightness to get the lights, so I took this one which is like a three different brightness level model, it's a little more expensive figure, we can find the best brightness and then you can take a cheaper model, then I ran to the target and I picked up some tissue paper to use. as a light diffuser then I got a little distracted driving around my house to see how the progress was going, it looked good, I started heading back home, I bought some ramen on the way and here we are, let's put it all together so first thing.
What we're going to do in this setup is set up the lighting because the lighting ends up being more important than the camera. In many cases, a good camera will look terrible if the lighting is terrible, so we took the light bulbs, put them in the overhead light that focuses the light forward, and then covered them with this tissue paper. What the tissue paper does is diffuse the light, so instead of coming from a single small source, the bulb now comes from a very wide surface area, this gives the shadows on your face a little more blurred. , it softens them a little bit and it's something you can do for literally $50.
We'll also use epocam which sets your phone up as your camera only costs about eight dollars and let's face it, the camera you have on the phone in your pocket is already ten times better than any cheap webcam you can buy and it looks like this, which honestly is pretty cool I think looking at it now. I probably would have bought a bulb that was a little cooler, this one is too orange, but it's not terrible and it was super cheap, so if we paid 16 for the bulbs, 20 for the dome lights, 50 dollars for the tissue paper and eight dollars.
For the app, you can also get a desk stand for your phone for about $12, which brings us to $57.50. I think in addition to what I can do with my phone, I can make my camera super wide like most iPhones do and on this 1080p screen that allows me to do some cool things like I do in my current scene and give it an ultra wide look by filling these spaces with overlays or maybe move it up here and have space down below for my alerts, that's exactly how I do my current scene on Twitch right now and another thing I would do is zoom it in a lot to get a scene like this and then in my gaming scene what I do is I crop like this and now we can jump back and between full screen ultra wide and a nice crop on my face to play and let me compare this to another $50 to $55 setup, the logitech c920 , which actually, looking at Amazon, you can't get for less than $80 right now, so this is actually a more expensive setup even without the lights, most of what we spent money on was our lighting because that's much more important than the camera itself, especially on the lower end like this, so if instead of spending eight dollars on an app and then most of our money on lights, if we were to buy a webcam 80 , it would look like this, so if this is what you're looking for, let's move on to the audio, as for the microphone, we choose my favorite. cheap microphone the razer siren mini we have used it in multiple tests, it won each and every one of them and just to bring the microphone closer to my mouth we will place it on this articulated arm, so that with the microphone at 50 the arm is 13.50 that gives us leading to our last total was 57.50 right, I don't even remember if it was 5750 anymore which brings us to a total of 121. for our camera, our camera mount, our lights, our microphone and our microphone stand, this is a nice Solid looking streaming setup, you can absolutely gain an audience this way, no one is going to come in and complain about the quality of your stream if it looks like this, so whatever you're hearing on this microphone right now connects directly to the computer , without effects, without plugins. anything on it if we wanted to add EQ and compression I would adjust it to sound like this so you can see there is a slight difference before and after we have maybe a little extra clarity a few better levels so it doesn't sound too loud or too much. quiet sometimes if you're looking to add these types of effects to make your voice pop a little bit we've done a video on this before on how to make a cheap microphone sound like a studio microphone so I'll link to it. underneath this this is actually killing me wait I should have fixed this sooner that's better you know and by the way don't mind the mess you guys know I'm moving in two months.
I have given up. I have given up. Keeping this place clean is just not going to happen, the new place will look nice, but the last thing we would need on a cheap stream like this is some kind of control, some kind of cheap version of a streaming platform for example, so that you can change again. and advance between your scenes very easily, they will be two pretty solid free options for you. The first is the touch portal, of which there is a free version. You are limited by how many scenes you can add to it and the quantity.
There are several buttons that you can use basically, but it's still free. However, we are currently using our phone as our webcam, so that is not an option for us. What we'll do instead is just use our fancy little number pad here if you're relatively new to this. obs and you didn't know this, you can go to your settings and access the hotkeys and you can find all the different scenes, for example, we have our cheap cam scene or cheap game scene. We're in our cheap gaming scene right here. If we set our keypad to num lock, we can set it to one and we can set our cheap camera to that big number zero that makes life really easy.
Note that these are different than the standard ones you can see I just wrote. there or zero versus number zero, two totally different buttons, so you can still use this when you play and use one, two, three and four to change your weapons or whatever you use and then go to your number pad and change your scenes that way. check it at zero, let's press one, but if I press zero and one on top of the keyboard, it doesn't do anything zero on the keypad one and there we go, we have our little free streaming pad sitting on the side of our keyboard, the last important piece.
The conundrum for any streamer is your background or your room, a big part of streaming is feeling like a person is sitting in the room with you and if you have a really cool space the experience is much more enjoyable, so I have two options for you. The first option I would like to show you is the one I used for a long time. They are these relatively cheap RGB reflectors that you can buy online that illuminate your entire room with a specific color, for example, blue. most of these come in two packs so you can have a second one that illuminates the other side of your room with a different color and you can have a mix and match situation.
I have a second one somewhere and couldn't find it. I'll wait to move in, no big deal, but these run about thirty-five dollars for a two-pack and can do a really good job of making your room look more exciting or making you stand out from the screen; You may notice that blue is generally the opposite of skin tone, so I have a little more depth in my room right now since my face stands out against the blue, but there is another option you can do, which we've talked about. made a

complete

video and it works especially in your room. like mine is a giant mess and it will be a mess until we move, but as you can see in this video, you can take a photo of your room or any other room or any room you find on the internet, blur it a little bit and then we take the 10 sheet from Walmart, we hang it behind us and then we project ourselves in green in front of the exact same room we were in, but we blur it a little bit and turn our eight dollar camera into what looks like a full DSLR and that .
The option cost us about ten dollars, so Sam I've completely lost track of how much everything costs at this point, but if we were to do the green screen version, I'll let Sam do it, maybe we'll put it on this side, what's here? the total for the green screen version and then here will be the total for the version with the spotlights, which should be 25 more than this side and that's what we're looking at for a grand total for a very well organized broadcast setup, let me Turn that light off real quick. The purpose of this video is to show you how low the initial investment can be just so you can get started and at least recognize if this is the career you want to pursue, no one wants to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on equipment only to find out that you hate editing, you hate Twitter, you hate social media, that happens sometimes, start with a very small initial investment, gain experience in the industry and as things start to improve start investing in your team, but I hope.
This helped, I hope you enjoyed the ride, if you have any additional questions be sure to stop by my Twitch channel. I stream every Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and of course, happy streaming.
