Sep 11, 2023
thank you foreigner thank you thank you foreigner foreigner foreigner I'm having trouble with that I'm sorry um okay guys injuries um we just had I forgot my list who it was there's only one there oh yeah Amber just got checked out for a concussion um by the spotters above pretty clear , so we're okay, yeah, you go up 20 nothing and you know how to generate results in all three and I was there for a while, how would you evaluate the way this game opened up as well as you could hope for? because I thought it was about 28 minutes of really good football and then two minutes of really bad football, um, the offense just didn't score points at the end, it just gave them back, um and then we didn't get that safe yard. two penalties we had and they scored at the end of the half slowed it down a little bit, but it was incredible, we came out, got the ball back and responded on that first drive and cruised pretty well from there.

I don't do a lot of stuff, it's stuff that, uh, I feel like it's just understood that we always try to get out quick, that's always our goal and I was glad we did it, yeah, that was huge, I mean, we've waited a long time. for this game we are the first games, they are always weird, you think about it forever, you think about it too much, since a couple of

week

s ago, I just wanted to get to this game and start, and once we started, it happened and it felt. normal and happy to get the first one out of the way and happy to get a win while doing it, it was huge, you know, I mean, I thought we really let it come back, especially I thought we had a chance that we were there in goal range of field. with that um with that run um and we had a free play because they got jumped out so I thought it would be third and two and give us a chance to move on if we didn't get it even kick a field. goal or timeout and have a chance to score a touchdown, but somehow I heard offsides and somehow I heard they had a timeout after that, so I'm not exactly sure what happened and then we couldn't make it and I stopped them on that third and one.

I think we're good, but they rebounded on that run, committed a personal foul and gave it some light at that moment. Yeah, definitely, I mean, he's, I mean, we feel great with him in practice every day. He's been great, you know, he had a couple of issues in the preseason game and then he got hurt, but he recovered a lot quicker than we expected, so he's been pretty good here in practice and if you still want to see him in the games , enters. the delay of a game at the beginning we did it just to make it harder for him and he looked great there and it continued throughout the game so he did a great job yeah that made it a lot easier you know our number was between 30 and 40.

That's what we said going in, but hopefully we can keep it there and that's what we were looking for, we made it a little easier with some of the three and out and that's why we kept it there in the end. for the most part I thought Brock had a good game uh he made some big plays um I got some explosives in there and some tight windows um you know we had some problems in protection not just problems so we knew it was going to happen I hope you can hold on when that happens just so we don't turn it around and make a mistake um but I thought Brock made a health play um yeah, not exactly, it never goes according to script, it's always a little bit different, but um, it was me.

I'm trying to remember it all now, but I don't think we got a third chance, which was huge and, well, we got a different look than we expected, but we were still hoping it would get there. he did an amazing job being his man. Debo was number one on the route and we hope that a lot of people will come with them and leave the IU colony and we needed to hold on to be able to wait for that and we did and I did what we thought I would and it was a really good route, good launch, great protection, as much as I, I mean all of our guys, we've got some pretty good eligibles, you know, you know, don't get into thoughts. that everything is going to be like it was today, you go in with a pretty balanced game and what happens is that I only look at the statistics right before they come in, every time you throw at someone eight times and all eight are completions, that means that you We're doing some really good things oh that's right yeah call what you put in your quarterback.
There's a little bit of this line of confidence that you're making a profit at that point. It's also a little bit how difficult it is to run against the center court, which you guys saw the play before, so you know they're a really good

team

, really hard to stop in those situations and it's always a little bit easier to execute. They think it's easier to execute, but I think you saw that. on the first one and we thought we'd get him out of the way and George did a little bow around the guy, but Brock made a perfect shot that allowed George to move up the field and that was huge, we're probably about to win.
There has been a lot of discussion about passwords besides Nick, yes I am very happy for him. I could see the two captures of him. You know, Drake worked a ton this offseason. He worked so hard in training camp. He had a setback. when he got injured, he missed a lot of training camps, but he worked hard to come back and you know, when he gets on the plane I'll see how he played overall, but he has that kind of ability and it seemed like he had a big effect on the game um no, but you know, I mean, they didn't move the chains, we put them in three and we went out, you know, it took them a little while to get going and we were able to respond, so to be able to jump it, I don't think it says much, I mean, it's just how the game went in the first

week

, but I had a lot of respect for that

team

just seeing how they were at the end of last year, we knew what.
It was the offseason and I watched them all preseason getting to know Mike, knowing what that team has. I mean, they didn't make the plays today, but that team will be there at the end, maybe a little longer after the first one. Did you get the sense that all this meant a little more to him coming back after all? um, I mean, I'm sure you do. I mean, I think we could guess that, but not Brock. Brock is pretty stable. Um, Brock, no. I don't see much difference every day and he is a very faith-based person.
I think that gives him the foundation for him, as much as anyone else I've been with. He's taken this entire offseason as best he can with an injured quarterback. I think it was six months ago today when he had that big surgery and he's done everything he can to come back and he handles the pressure well and he doesn't really change. I think that's why guys love it and I think that's why I'll do it. continue to improve um I mean all you ask for is the opportunity to be like that and I think we have the opportunity to do that um we have a long way to go before that but I liked our first outing today okay guys. thanks foreigner Christian can you take him out for a run to start the third quarter?
And what you saw in your particular, I've missed, yeah, it was an incredible block, you know those guys up front, the whole running game, it's an 11. -Man work and uh they made great blocks um I had a little turn there he jumped and then I think it was um iuk and Ray Ray downfield, I mean when you have receivers that block like that, it's a special feeling for a running back. because you know you really feel like they have your back and it's an amazing feeling when you're out there, so every time the 11 is committed to the running game, you have the full back, who is the best in the league.
The tight end is the best in the League at what he does and you know, all 50 linemen work hard all day. It's fun to be able to run the ball behind people who are so committed to doing it slowly. on the left hand, I think it's very instinctive, there are times when you have to press the accelerator and there are times when you have to be patient and let everything come to you, speaks volumes about the benefit of having gone through the entire season low. in this offense you felt that today out there I want to say that your total was just deciding that it has ever been a bad product yes I think I think there is still um you know I don't want to say anything before watching the tape uh the tape I will always tell you how. you did, obviously statistically it was a good game, but I think there's still some plays that you know when you go through camp and you see different looks throughout camp and then now you come in you know a live bullet game um you're not 100 sure how another defense is going to play you, so there were some times where we were just feeling it a little bit.
I felt like you know once again we'll watch the tape, but we could Maybe I've done a couple more things, but that all comes with time and I think it's important that we continue to grow, you know every game and getting better every game, and I'm I'm sure it will be a point of emphasis in the touchdown run. that you guys could make a bigger one based on looks, uh, you know, I think everyone in the locker room is committed to you, they know what the play is and that's why, for us, we always feel that way. you know if it's the first play or the last play, you know, like I said, just the commitment to the running game from the staff to the 11 guys on the field, we always feel like the next one could be the one that's us. we go over the actions everyone does this maybe offers a window into what kind of team we could be this year I think every play has a life of its own every game has a life of its own today we win next week There's a challenge, this is the NFL it doesn't work like that, I wish it were, that would be great, but you know, for us it's just about getting better by watching tape, capitalizing on your strengths and fixing the weaknesses and fixing all the things that we need to accomplish. changed and go from there, but every week it has a new life and for us it's like I said, just go back to the drawing board, that's good, I appreciate it, the guys should flow pretty well, okay, yeah, no, uh, no, he digs his uh um.
I've been talking to Pat for a while since we had a couple of meetings, so I've been talking to him for a while, but it's always fun to go against him on the bench, could you almost like? Was he between you and the ball at any point? How do you make that catch? I think it was a position we've been in a couple of times in camp. The party gave us the opportunity to make a play with the ball. and we came back, we went for the back shoulder and yeah, uh uh, we just widened and freed up Debo coming in and creating the one-on-one matchup with me and Patty outside this year and you guys pretty much dismantled.
Does that perhaps offer a glimpse of how good you guys could be this year? I mean, it's the first week, we don't know, we don't know anything about them, we don't know, we don't know, so let it go. The rest of the season plays out, um, but it definitely feels good to be one knowing that our skies are swelling up every time for a while, the defense isn't even able to explode, what does it feel like to be in the middle of that lack defense? He was playing really well, we were um, we were in for one today, it just felt like it was a super long first half.
The defense was coming off the field quickly. We were going to go back out, uh, so yeah, it's a long TouchDown for Christian, you have a great block. field, but I noticed that at the beginning of the play you have to make some kind of down block from the beginning before running, what a difficult task it is, for you, as a receiver, to have to execute both blocks on a running play, oh yeah . We had a crazy game, playing the run game, um just in terms of our assignments on the outside, blocking those guys tight at the end blocking the linebackers, but they did a great job, gave us some different looks, so I was a little messy that player.
He didn't even know what to do. I just watched Christian Breaking Free and then went to check if anyone still watches. Uh, I mean, I don't care much about respect anymore. just come here and do my job with you uh Brock had a very lively celebration important to him, I mean, maybe even more selfish given the first game from the elbow of him, what do you do? um, oh yeah, I mean, no, I think everyone's just decided. come out here and play football again uh and we went out and played whatever we did it's exciting um I saw one when he chose the conversion later in the game and in this slime business first now so it was exciting for everyone um and I think that's who he is, that's how he plays, that's it, yeah, two years ago we won the Detroit, we wonder about playing time and now a lot of things have changed since then, you feel Kyle Shane's chickens getting more and more safe. calling your number was gone, oh, two years ago, Detroit, a long time ago, but that was a different time, um, yeah, it was a very different time, well, like I said, I'm just trying to come here every day and do my job, whether I know it.
Like one more on Christian's touchdown and not blocking? What did you see once this was an open field on your pancake and you noticed Ray Ray running in from the other side to make that final block? I didn't see the Ray Ray lock, um, but I heard that I have to take it off. I've heard about it a couple of times so far. They saidIt also had a gray block there, so I don't know, but I'll go check it out. Well, thanks man, thanks. foreigner, yeah, I think it was huge, you know, coming in off the defense first, stopping getting this great field position and then, you know, obviously being able to run the ball set up some things in the passing game, uh , hit ba at the end, but in terms of like the momentum in a hostile environment was huge for us, so it's good, uh, jaw or spend it playing with what you saw, no, it was exactly like he, you know, drew it , have George make a move and then have him get in the flat um trying to get the defensive part where he's going to pass the ball, we needed a yard, you know, but hit Jordan flat and have him get a couple more yards for us, it did exactly that, so it was exactly what we called it and I planned it that way.
He drives alive and he's still in trouble, yeah, that was huge, that was huge. Obviously you don't want the defense to make a great stop, get great field position and then just give the ball back so you can be aggressive. and then having Kyle say the play was perfect, keep our momentum going and then we released it, so it was huge, the first one, yeah, it was, I mean, I was, you know, excited that we put that momentum together, everything. It was something like that. By clicking, you know, defense of their own, we built momentum and, um, you know, to finish like this to start the season, I thought, yeah, this is going to be good, so it was a really great feeling, is there any feelings after that?
It's been a long, horrible road to get back to this point and now I'm here and I'm back and didn't you feel that at the time? I mean, honestly no, I really don't, you know, I think more about camp and stuff. I felt like, um, I feel like right there, in that moment, it was like you know this is what we're supposed to do, this is what we're supposed to expect of ourselves and um, you know, once I reached That touchdown, it wasn't there. I don't think you know about surgery or anything like that I was man we're here to win you know that's how we're going to play and that's where I was mentally so how do you use the recovery shown in the conversation um honestly at first no, I wasn't thinking about any of that um ba he was open, he did a great job on the route and um he got the ball scored a touchdown and then the second touchdown on the right side, the deep ball.
It's that about Patrick Peterson, yeah, that one, it was good, it felt good, but he was good, I mean, he's a competitor. I have nothing but respect for Patrick Peterson and everything he does, so he seemed pretty organic, but do you think? about them or is it just your excitement, no, it's just that you know, no matter what, I'm trying to get the team excited and show them, hey man, like you know everything we've done is paying off, it's going well, like this Just trying to get the other guys to move forward is what I'm thinking right now is that your option to go back on the shoulder is designed for something real. um no, I just went back on the shoulder if ba beat him pretty bad, you know. get in front of them if not he has some contact uh give him a chance on the back shoulder that's how I did it you mentioned yeah you gave him a chance part of it I'm just I'm going to go with the left hand, make a play, yeah, I mean, that's huge for us.
You know, we talked during the offseason, just the trust factor. You know, the lead guys have anticipation and then obviously when it's a one-on-one matchup, we have great talent. It's like, man, just give it a chance, you know, throw it out there and see what happens, so he was a great representative for us, thank you. Josh has a couple more here, a lot of indication of how good this team could be this year, sure, I think so. It was exactly how we wanted it to come out, you know, it was an emphasis on, you know, past seasons.
We got off to slow starts, we knew we needed to come in and set the tone from the jump, um, offense, defense, special teams, I think. the board, we did exactly what we wanted to do and we ran five, three setups in a row, open again, great feeling, you know, uh, that's exactly how you want to start, you know, obviously I'm thinking about everything, everything, plays that we could have had back, you know, at the end of the first half and then in the second half, but to come out and start that way against a team that, honestly, throughout the preseason they were hot, you know, I'm sure they had a comeback a lot of confidence and we just went out and executed the receivers that were in front of them you're going up against this defense and this offense's training camp offense yeah is there any other NFL offense that has the procedures that they locked down like starving ?
Don't know. If there is, I haven't seen it, how we do it, I mean, there's an emphasis on that side, if you want to play and you want to start in that position, it's not just about catching the ball. They do a great job blocking downfield as aggressively as I've seen you play behind him. How good that defense was. Incredible. Incredible. And I knew that was going to be the case. You know, I don't know if I had all those healthy guys out there, um the whole camp, you know, obviously we had the uh, we both had to come back late and having everyone healthy out there, you saw what the result was.
I don't know, I have to make sure he doesn't do it. he has a sack so he's a little upset about it but oh my gosh you're kidding but just having them out there was a huge boost not only for our defense but for the team you know my coach Johnny Holland He always says that the harder you work, the luckier you get and, you know, that means we don't, we don't believe in luck, I believe in hard work and, you know, reaping what you sow, and I think he's worked hard all through the offseason and uh.
For him to come out and have a game like that is a huge confidence boost for himself and we'll need it all season long. You know, we need everyone to play an important role in defending him and I was very happy for him. Today, absolutely, every time he's on that field, he's one of the best defensive

players

in the NFL, so you have to take that into account on every play. Thanks guys. I felt good with my body supported. I played pretty much the exact amount of plays. we were hoping um and the three and outs helped me not push myself too hard early, but the body felt great, that was number one and whoever wins wins, it's always good, I think so, I mean, you want to win a game, you don't. is. a message, not a statement, but do it the way you did it here to open the season.
Do you feel like a little message was sent to the rest of you? Yeah, I want to do that for Steve, um, his first time here. I set the tone with all the threes and outs we had and um I think it's a great thing to push us forward, yeah, yeah, I didn't think about that, but you'd love to get off to a good start. We had five sacks today. as a d-line so Chris was definitely happy that Drake blew up which we expected so we have so many

players

and it's fun to see IU do her thing and Purdy shut up some haters so it's nice to be on a team really Well.
Yeah, I mean we would see it with Philadelphia and I think between him and Chris Jones and obviously Aaron Donald, that's pretty close to who affects games so much from the inside and adding him with Eric will help us a lot on the edge, yeah. I was watching the tape throughout the entire resistance and I want to say it was clear as day that he has advanced, his work ethic and his preparation and all his movements there, it has really been detailed and he has gained some weight and he still moves like does it move. so it's going to be dangerous, are you talking specifically about one thing or just something general?
I think whenever a guy comes back from an injury and people give him something, they don't expect him to take another leap in year two. I'm happy for him, he's exactly who I thought he was. Yes, you definitely need to prove people wrong and prove that you are the same player. I'm happy he made an incredible recovery. I think he was faster than anyone. He was expected, so he was able to get reps during the offseason and he definitely he's a good leader for us, thank you, thank you.
