Ken Block’s ULTIMATE Snowcat for Backcountry: Can-Am Maverick (On Tracks!) Pre-flight Walkaround
hi there I am Ken
blockand I am here in Nelson British Columbia Canada and I am here because bald-faced is up in those mountains right there and it is one of the best places in the world the
backcountrysnowboard and I've brought a very special toy to play up there which is this I can't name x3 with their Apache
trackson it the singer Brits it's a lot quicker than the typical catch so this episode is all about this can-am so I'm gonna give you all the details of it how you can build this yourself to do this exact same thing or just go out in the
backcountryand have fun without snowboarding so we're gonna experiment with it here a bald-faced to see just how quick we can laughs so we have a couple snowboarders with us iike Backstrom and Justin peroneus and we're gonna go up there and rip the
backcountryand do it in a very fun and fast way so let's check this thing out so this can am actually has a very long name it is a can-am x3
maverickmax max being the four-door part XR s turbo RR with the Apache back history LT check it a lot of stuff going on but it's super rad so the engine in this thing is a three cylinder 900 CC turbocharged engine that puts out about 195 horsepower and that's before the Evo tuned we'll get to that later the main thing that we really want to talk about right now is the
tracksare the important thing for what we're about to do up in the snow and it's a very special kit that can am is built...
the track itself most the technology comes from ski-doo so ski-doo is a partner brand to can-am so they took the ski-doo technology and made one of the most unique
backcountrytrack kits in the entire world so there is no other
backcountrykit like this from the other manufacturers this is unique specifically to can-am ground clearance is so important it's like we're gonna be driving this thing through deep snow so you want as much ground clearance as possible this kit actually adds six and a half inches of ground clearance from roughly 16 inches of ground clearance to 22 so that's just really important for being able to drive this thing through all sorts of different snow conditions obviously there's a limit you can eventually hit the chassis if you go too deep which I will be trying this really gives you a lot more clearance for a lot of different types of varying conditions in the snow so the
tracksthemselves if you look the the rear is bigger than the front but there's a lot of contact patch with two inch paddles so like I said ski-doo track technology applied to a Can Am with a lot of surface area for grip literally it has a lot of traction I try and slide this thing around and it won't slide there's such a big contact patch it's literally like driving for snowmobiles at once it's really amazing what they've built here with not only the ground clearance but the huge contact patch was very aggressive paddles and so just to clarify...
because this is such a unique product built off snowmobile technology these are for only winter use there are some other systems like the one that I have on the Raptor
tracksthat I've driven in mud I've driven in sand and obviously in snow but these the rails have to be lubricated by the snow so these are winter specific but that's what makes them so good in the snow moving around to the rear of this vehicle you can see a lot of really cool parts s3 power sports has put a lot of very nice parts on this including these built aluminum radius rods and a lot of other very very nice performance parts that we're just gonna list here there's also very nice buffers that you can see here we've included a winch on the front and back of this unit because most likely I am going to get stuck somewhere at some point so that's used to help pull and get us out of a bad spot there's a very nice bag back here that's from km it's actually built by ojio but available through can-am so there's a lot of nice storage in and around on the scene it's very important when you are in the
backcountryyou need everything from tools to food to water because things do happen out in the
backcountryand will be out in the middle of nowhere we do have a special tool kit right here which is the savage UTV belt tool change kits so it has everything that we need a belt all the tools everything for us to be able to quickly change that belt and of course you can see...
back here to the board racks so there's two on each side so we can easily take four but we can also take more boards and equipment up on the roof alright well up here you can see once again another s3 bumper with some nice rigid lights we've got a full glass windshield with windshield wiper and fluid and you've got the adventurer rack up here at the top with a very nice big rigid light bar the extended flares from can-am and if you go inside and start to see some of the storage kit on Lipper storage up on the roof so there's a full stereo system MTX audio system there's also a heater system inside the cab here it's called an ice crusher cab heater it's my style right up here on top another thing I just notice in here there's a very nice button that says launch hey there that's a full Evo tune with launch control and there's a full Evo exhaust on this thing so long with the glass windscreen there's also the soft enclosure windows with zipper openings just a real nice setup these
trackskick up a lot of snow so having the cab completely enclosed is really quite important so we made a nice little graphic kit for Jeff here at bald-faced got his logo here on the side the red matches the way a lot of the other cats look up at bald-faced of course can-am and Finnegan logo so I'm really stoked on the look at this thing I wish shows actually keeping this myself I think the whole setup looks amazing and it's going to be incredibly fun...
to play with so can we take this thing up there now helicopter
