Jeremy Colliton Postgame Interview | Apr. 19/23
Apr 20, 2023The home opener at Abbotsford connects the story. You guys had a bit of a quiet first period. What changed from the first to the second there. um, I think both teams felt that pressure, but, like you said, I think actually, even late in the first one, we had some good at-bats where we played a little bit faster, played further north, got the Pucks in and had a couple of good ozone changes. what he thought we were able to carry that into the second period and it was a tight game like I think 3-0 I don't think it was a 3-0 game it was it was tight what we did was figure out a way to get ahead with some big plays and finish a couple of chances and then obviously the power play at the end was really important just to finish but I liked how we competed I thought enough details were made that allowed us to get a result so we will need to play better they will surely be desperate next game, but overall, a pretty good start for a bunch of guys who don't have a lot of playoff experience.
How about discipline? from your team i think taking three penalties in total one was the compensatory so they had to kill well just two penalties tonight what did you think of the tv? It's important, uh, I think we can play if we can play as much five and five as possible, we can use the entire bench and, because we want to play aggressive, we want a four card and, uh, it's a lot of work for forwards, so if we can spread that out as much as possible, I want to do that yesterday. You told us you had two porters.
It was like one on one. B looked like a genius with Spencer Martin throwing a flyer. What did you see of Spencer tonight? Yeah, he was great, but he's been really good for a while. now again, I think both guys have been great, the competition between the two I think has pushed them both to play their best hockey this season and, you know, they both want to play, I don't, I don't think either. one of them is probably totally happy with the arrangement, but the team likes it, so that's the most important thing. A month ago you have a kid who played 1080 college hockey and scores two goals for you to ever read for Max, yes he has gotten better and better every game.
I thought you knew when he came to us in Winnipeg, he was just getting up to, you know, a little tentative and learning the league, but you could see he was willing to make some plays and it seemed like he could skate and open up ice and I think he really blossomed here. in the last one I don't know how many games but as I thought the Calgary series was great maybe the last game a little bit of a step back but then he picks up tonight and maybe his best game so we need him though we need contributions from the entire lineup and I thought that line was great tonight which made that line work so well it seemed like every ship they did.
Good thing I thought they competed extremely hard like we won a ton of 50 races from the 50s puck battles and then we made enough plays to keep moving forward and then you get chances so it's tight so far it's a tight series there isn't a ton out there you're going to have to create your chances by winning loose drives and then attacking and then taking advantage it could be one or two a period where you even have a chance to create a chance and I thought that line they defended hard they controlled hard and then they took advantage when maybe they had the team behind and had a chance to make plays.
Overlander had a nice four check early in the game and was forced to turn around and felt like he was setting the tone on almost every turn. watching his play yeah I really liked it and I think it was a great catalyst again to do those things again win races be strong on the puck protect him but not necessarily have to do it all he advanced TI and kept the puck on the team and then you know they did they made a couple of special plays obviously and we need more of that from them Jeremy how do you handle a tandem like that now that you're in the playoffs going forward?
Just really good communication and again me I think at this point like since they've both been down neither of them have given us a reason not to play them I mean they're doing their part so, you know, we'll see how it goes It's always day by day. but, uh, another good performance from our goalies, gives us a chance to win, what do you think of the minor in the plan than Spencer Got Run, hard to say it was definitely a penalty. on my little tablet there behind the bench it's hard to say if it should have been more or not but luckily it picked up and it was really good obviously we can't tell from the referees in the game what was the reason for the goal disallowed it was just kicked off yeah it was kicked ok yea how satisfied were you with your teams that physical sheet today well i thought we did a good job i thought better as the game went on i thought we were a bit tentative huh trying to be safe and you have to check as well as you have we have have to skate check with his legs and then if you get a chance to finish do that and I thought we did it as an Anonymous game and we force more turnovers and then we can control more of the game so we'll need to do more of that
