It's HUGE! Building out my camper van workspace with 5K screen, new lights, and charge stationMay 29, 2021
For the past two years, I have explored the far reaches of the western states in my custom motorhome that my friends and I build from the ground up with every adventure. I discover new ideas to implement and further improve our bill last year when I returned to the East Coast, we embarked on a massive renovation that would increase the overall livability of the truck and I have loved having these updates for the last year, now I am back on the east coast again and i've been hanging out and working with my friend seth he recently turned his three car garage into a mass productivity work space this place is bookmarked and working here for the last two months got me thinking about how i can improve my
workspaceand productivity in the van hello and welcome back friends, I'm very excited because in today's video we are making improvements to the van, but before I get into that, I want everyone who is new to the channel take a quick and dirty tour of the van to see what we're on I'm working here I'm Dora yes the officially official name of the cam ionet.
I have two swivel chairs in the front absolutely essential to any truck build, so let's swap them out and make this a proper room. This is where I spend most of my time. my time in the van my custom
workspacethat my friend Johnny from the craft shop helped me design here this is a new addition these are amazing i think they were walnut cabinets and they have added a ton of storage space for me the other something what we did in the last renovation which has also been a complete game changer for me is we installed running water here here I have my fridge this is an ARB 81 room so it's one of the biggest ones under that I have my set up of Kitchen in here is probably my favorite part of the van because well I have a giant bed in here now it's not just a bed now it can be made into a sofa for the most exciting part or at least what I think is the most exciting part comes a going around the garage so this is where most of the storage resides on my bill the whole build is centered around the idea of these two slide out trays that's it let's darl e a bit of character it gives me very easy access to everything inside because the garage is actually very deep it's not just about having space to store stuff it's about being able to access what you have in there so this system has been working amazingly if you want to check it out in much more detail. we documented the entire build from start to finish yes it's been going pretty well for me everything holds up and does exactly what I need it to do but today we're going to make it even better so now I have these LED strips lining the outside of the truck and they're like cheap LED
lightsthat we have our name on.
More Interesting Facts About,
it s huge building out my camper van workspace with 5k screen new lights and charge station...
I think they cost like 20 bucks. My biggest problem with these is that it's not very bright, it doesn't have a productive feel to it, so I'm very excited. One of the first things I noticed about Seth's garage was how well lit everything was and that wasn't an accident. Seth thinks that having a bright space to work in, regardless of the time of day or the weather, really helps you feel energized and creative and I have to agree, so this time we're going to light Dora like the star that she is. . These are serious. I'm going to fire them real quick.
We did it well. we scrape off all the residual residue and flatten the surface on top of the wood just to make sure the new ones will have a really good surface to stick to and won't end up peeling that's let's turn it on and say the other side and then turn it on you want to wait for the other ok you're ready to see it actually damn daylight here i knew these were going to be ht brigs but they're brighter than i thought they were they're a lot brighter than i thought they were going to be they didn't lie with your website, the super bright LEDs let us down, and for the first time ever, we haven't.
Our LEDs have let me down. I work with a lot of different cameras that run on batteries and we had the idea to put this nifty little charging
stationhere. Unfortunately, it hasn't really performed very consistently since the start of the truck, so yeah. I'm excited to try to find an elegant solution to that and I've got the right man for the job. Seth, you used to work in automotive electrical systems and when I'm here with him, it's time to do all of this. because he knows more about this than you know anyone I know so I think that's going to make the biggest difference and as I open this up he doesn't get caught up in the wire anymore which is
hugeas expected sets great job fast loading. but we didn't stop there with this week's updates on the We're going to add a lot more things that require more power, so adding more battery here is absolutely essential.
The next thing I'm going to do while I'm here is place a voltage meter here. day one in men we did a bunch today yeah we now have a voltage indicator on the side so it has twice the power and can do a better job of monitoring which is great and that's pretty cool too because the next addition we're going to do that's what i'm most excited about what you say is going to consume the most power for sure right um we're sitting on a monitor on not just a monitor i'm not just anybody alright 27 The beast of a one-inch monitor, the game plan is to put it here, boom, slap it there, fit perfectly and then it has to swing out and then it has to swing out like this. turn this way then turn this way i have no idea how we're going to do it looking back it's all so easy you can see the writing on the wall yeah this is this it's not light there's also nothing there's nowhere to screw it has this like that and the thing just slides off and falls the second it turns left it's going to rip the screws out of the wall. or we are going to mount it in another place, where else would we mount it here?
The worst is the worst. I order a smaller monitor. We have to solve the problem. We'll come up with something. You don't want a small monitor. I'm sure you're right, you may be wondering right now why I want this unruly monitor on my truck in the first place and like many of the other upgrades it all started in garage sets, see the set I've been on spending a lot. of time working side by side on our computers each week making videos and as I'm strapped to the small
screenof my laptop squinting at the details on my video timeline, I can't help but notice that Seth well what?
It is not like this? It takes me a long time to see the benefits of a larger
screenfor both eyes. and the editing competition and I knew right away that this had to be my next big update. a lot of adjustability would have the monitor right in front of you so now the edge could hit here that's a legitimate fear it's almost like we don't know until we mount it if we attach it to this arm it's not going to be strong enough to hold it it's going to pull the screws out of the wall but we're going to attach it and support the weight with our hands to be able to manipulate it so it's going to take a bit of teamwork and we're going to have to be careful ok yeah we can oh it goes right there , so now let's see if it's going to go to the wall, so I'm going to do a little rotation here, are you bending that thing? up ok now let's fold this like this oh wait wait this go down h Don't look no way though the swing arm will do what we need we still don't have a strong enough wall to permanently mount this heavy piece of equipment to what would turn out to be our biggest obstacle.
I would love to put a piece of wood. behind here that would be so sick the amount of stuff we would have to take apart to get behind here it's not trivial but we could do it i'm what i'm saying worry i know you're worried but so listen to me let's remove the desk unscrew these screws that are on the lining that flexes it back, liners are flexible and then we can see there, then we get the two by six behind, I mean that would be awesome if we could get all of this. back there now try sliding that's ok sorry sorry speakers we're almost there ok oh it's there it's there omg wow that's a big piece of plywood behind us that will make it super strong zip zip zip zip zip all the way down the sheet metal and then we run all of our wir is while we have access to the whole panel its an actual hole in the wall poke a big hole and then the wires will run through it oh good and then we put this all back together and we mount the monitor shake it ok we go in there oh it's solid I don't even see the wall move take this so take your laptop and plug it in there leave your laptop closed plug the cable in and just tuck it under you that cable is all you need now press your keypad it flashes a few times oh and it's floating there this, just look at the dial you're sitting in your truck the
lightssuper bright Damn, just a gigantic monitor, this looks absolutely ridiculous, honestly, like I can't even believe this. here here alex check this out now i can see everything at once and then i still have a big screen to show it's like i'm almost oh my good can't wait to edit now can't wait mate after some finishing touches safely securing the monitor and finding a home for my laptop i can officially say our van renovations are complete, even though we face our fair share of trials and tribulations.
I couldn't be happier with the way everything turned out. Now my lights bring the interior of my trucks. They are alive even in the dark of night. The extra battery ensures that my power needs can keep up with my daily work. He behind the news 5K Miner had me so excited to edit my video this week that I completely ditched Seth in his garage and worked straight out of the truck all the way. time talking about if you enjoyed watching this video be sure to subscribe to my channel so you can keep up with my future adventures in makeovers with Dora and if you want to see more right now check out Seth's channel because believe it or not, we actually made even more updates than what i showed you here finally i want to say a
