is HW3 really better than HW2 for FSD?! | Tesla Model 3 UK Autopilot Test

Feb 27, 2020
I'm

really

very excited to see what the difference is. I'm hoping there's an obvious difference now that it's running the same hardware dos and 2.5 software as my previous

model

X, but this one has the new computer with full self-monitoring. what's called hardware 3 so if you see hardware 3 everywhere or a p3 or FSD it all means the same thing it means you've got that new computer down here that has something ridiculous like 10 times the power of the last one or even more I'm not sure it's incredibly powerful and basically what we're going to try to do is see the difference and see if the hardware right now can make the difference between the software you're running and if because this new hardware can potentially react quicker and can obviously pick up a lot more points along the way whether it's actually

better

yet or if those improvements are yet to come this is the only thing I'm not sure about obviously because the older computer has been in since I Think 2016 and now they are just upgrading the cards to this new Full Self Drive computer so the old stuff is still

really

good and is as good as it is in the current era but or this should now start moving forward and you should see the the difference between having the 22.5 hardware and the 3.0 hardware now obviously so far this has been pretty good and we're doing this down a path that I've done a lot before also the hard way so i know exactly where it fails on this trail and where it succeeds and i am intrigued to know the difference and see how it is one thing i will know is the

model

3 is a little slower to react in corners so far damn mate i thought you were cruising the street then is a little slower I found it where I have become a little wider like here for example I am a little too left for my liking I would prefer it to be more central as it is now and also with this bit When entering here we'll see how fast the speed limits now change and if you can recognize the speed limits from a distance so we can see you still think it's a 50 you should change to a 40 now which it has, but still, if we were going over 40, I don't think it would have slowed us down. but we'll see what it might change later down the road now it doesn't crash down here but sometimes it can be a little weird in this area just because it's going down and there's no line left but it works pretty good and I hope it works for most of this trip, you can see that the saying applies a slight twist for the steering wheel.
is hw3 really better than hw2 for fsd tesla model 3 uk autopilot test
My hands are clearly on the wheel, but it's still not responsive enough, so you only need to move them very, very slightly. behind this Peugeot too which is nice it's regulating speed very well for us and I'm currently set up for three cars behind so you change the setting there using this switch and then you can speed up and down like that too so it's pretty cool how it all works now i'm expecting a bit of a troublesome moment here we're probably going to abort from the car let's see i always sound weird saying that but sometimes it's boring here but let's see how he does it no he did great again I think it's because we're going slower because of the car in front but that's not really a problem and that actually leaned that way

better

than my Model X while there on my Model X because it's going over the top from a hill, he struggles a bit and sometimes says to put his hands on the wheel or, worst case scenario, abort altogether.

More Interesting Facts About,

is hw3 really better than hw2 for fsd tesla model 3 uk autopilot test...

I see we're going 40 to 45. It's slowing us down, but I'm pretty sure it's because of the car in front. I really hope it slows us down. down before the corners in this car okay I'll have to take control here if I don't have to take control here this is a huge improvement this is a very very tight right hander it's going to because we're going at a slower speed yes it did it Wow look that got us down to 30 we did it g and a warning oh it broke real hard there I think because of the bus and again its going to be able to do this corner this is a corner hard to do with central reserve it broke again pretty hard but here we go continued now comes the real

test

now i have chosen this piece of road because there are no lines on this road and this is new it has had lines before and i'm really intrigued to see how the hardware three copes when there's no row and look at this it's doing tremendously this is really really awesome i'm even going to bump it up to the speed limit of 50 now it's because of the car in front i'm not 100% sure but you can see it sticks to the left it doesn't get close to center reserve and I'm actually focusing on this line here because you can see it's a little wobbly but it's never gotten super wide and crazy like does it sometimes the Model X Wow I'm really impressed with this it's kept us on the left hand side again no lines I wonder if the

autopilot

would have kicked in on that road no lines guys that's great that's very, very good and again we're down to 30 but i'm pretty sure it's because of the car in front but that's exactly like the speed the car needs to do to get to a place like this ok we've got other pretty interesting

test

s On this part of the road, including a very wide part here that sometimes confuses, confuses my Model X, it's a little confused. to the right here or there we're going good yeah I don't like it almost looks like I was dodging a pothole there but I think it was just a fluke it's a little stiff there still I don't know why the sat navs aren't following us and here we are coming to a roundabout and someone just made an illegal U-turn on a roundabout so I'm pretty and I don't think you're allowed to do that on a roundabout on a small roundabout with no Central Reservations let me know can you do a 180 complete in a mini r? roundabout I always thought you could have made it, but he did well there and actually ran over the roundabout again.
is hw3 really better than hw2 for fsd tesla model 3 uk autopilot test
There are really no lines here. we're braking for there I think sometimes we notice trucks and buses on the other side of the road because we have a little bit of regenerative braking when there's a truck on the other side of the road which is a little weird but it follows this very well it's so I miss being on

autopilot

down here. Oh, what are you going to do? They're going to follow that right lane. from me it's easier to see but it looks good there sure there's a pretty tight corner here how are you going to handle this and now we're coming to a roundabout so I'm also going to have to take control and go around the roundabout mys elf and then i put the autopilot back on it it fell straight then kept spinning when i turned everything to stack it oh ok i applied light force yeah my hand my hands are always on the steering wheel I hope you can see my hand is always on the wheel here as I turn but this has definitely been the most successful autopilot drive I've done on this route so far let's hope it continues that way okay we can turn it up to 40 then you need to use this if you like to move fast it does 5 miles per hour if you just move it or like to scroll one at a time it will do 1 mile per hour each type of click but i have it set to not at all and i wish it would work up to the veil limit cidity every time you have it set to the speed limit now i expect it to hit 60 here when we get into the 60 let's just take a look and see if it does in fact do that no you can see it has the speed limit of 60 but it keeps us at 40 so I'll bump it up we probably won't get to 60 to be honest I'm ju I'll keep it at 50 you can see this works well here on these roads and when we get to Swindon we'll try to navigate a bit on autopilot around from Swindon and then we'll pass the city center itself because I've always wanted to do Swindon on my city tours but as it's not a city I can't do it whereas this is a perfect demo because I know the area well and can show you all the roads and hopefully this half hour will be enough to show you the difference between hardware two and hardware three, even running the same software it's almost like we're running the same game but ro this is on max setting and my 10th my other Tesla is in the middle or something like that is how I would differentiate between the two but when there are good workable lines like this it's obviously very easy to follow.
is hw3 really better than hw2 for fsd tesla model 3 uk autopilot test
There's an area down here where, like now, I want it to stay more to the right, but I think it will go away. close to the left or at least tha That's what my Model X does and there are so many potholes you hit every single pothole. We'll see if this makes a difference though and it doesn't actually do that although the car has bugged me a couple of times to put my hand on the wheel even though my hand is on the wheel I've found this wheel to be a lot more responsive which is really nice because I can rest my hand a lot easier literally just need to touch it and just pull down very very slightly or have your hand rest on the bottom and that allows it so you see what I've loosened up a bit and then if I put it in there you go it's like a bit and it will remove the warning whereas on the next model I almost have to physically like to turn the wheel a bit for its registration so I'm guessing something within the Steering wheels is much more responsive, now someone told me on model 3 that if you don't touch the steering wheel, I have my hand on the wheel. here and tap the bumps instead that will cancel the warning so come on I'll just quickly see if that's the case there's the warning so I'm going to tap the bump no nothing and I'm going to turn up the volume no, nothing, it's definitely the steering wheel itself.
I'm surprised you're not using the camera here to make sure your eyes are looking straight ahead so this is the bumpy area oh yeah yeah I guess my GoPros stabilize just fine but we've hit every bump yeah every pothole so you just need to go a bit to the right here, in the future i will also do full side by side comparisons where i drive the same road or i think you started to follow the right line there instead of this line, I'll do a full side by side comparison. side comparison to my Model X and model three coming soon so be sure to keep an eye on that subscription, hit that channel notification bell.
I think it was actually my mother in that Renault Captur. of what my Model X does where it gets a lot closer and does that kind of braking whereas there it slowed down from a distance and it's leaving a pretty good gap here between us and the hanger Oh in front now this bridge in front to us here it's actually a pain in the ass it merges into one traffic with no lines but two cars can fit in it but if there's a bus or truck you're screwed you can see that it has actually tried to stop us in the middle of the road, which I obviously don't want to happen because I probably would have hit that car.
They're not sure why they didn't change that bridge and make it wider, but that's the advice anyway. This now goes to a Royal Wootton Bassett which is going to be a real test for him, especially on the downtown set, so let's see how it works. I don't think it's going to work too much here just because of parking the way parking is in this city it's an absolute nightmare the lines are pretty weak too but it seems to be working g ok they're slowing down really well there too and i'm going to stop here and keep free control and let this lady go once she figures that out okay not even a thank you great anyway so here i am again.
It's going to have to pull off obviously because there are parked cars on the left but also no lines and there's a huge truck at the top still waiting and it doesn't even look like it's going to stop to get off that's not too bad ok here we go oh , interesting Wow, okay, I don't know why he was showing us a red light there for the car in front when he was in control, but for some reason he decided to do that. In fact, I'm going to close the gap a little bit. a bit and i'm going to set this to a distance because i think three in a city leaves too much space for cars to cut in front of you so this is what i'm talking about no lines here parking is crazy and there are parts car tails everywhere which is really weird but yeah but let this guy come on hopefully I can get auto fire back on. people probably trying to back off, okay they didn't like that, how is it going to be here?
Not sure what that was ok actually I think using the parking spaces on the left is almost like a line and following them which is pretty cool again here we are losing all the lines and then the cars do this weird diagonal thing and the parking part is on the road a bit yeah the parking here is a bit of a mess see the cars forced their way there and then through this roundabout I should go over it but I'm not going to leave it alone because it's a bit weird, okay, interestingly, the autopilot doesn't want to start now.
I guess it's because there are no lines on the way, but then again, beforeit was running no lions ok we're back on autopilot it's following these lines pretty well the road widens out here where before actually I had issues with the bus stop where the car heads slightly to the bus stop but it worked out pretty good now this is going to be interesting to see how you regulate your speed with this car starting here and if you follow the trail of that car it continues straight so you can see there it's coming to a rest it's coming oh it's almost stopped for full then come back to throttle so you need to judge it a bit better but you didn't really like the bump and full stop behind the car it actually went on for a bit which was pretty good let's throttle a bit here 2 40 oh we had a little break there.
I'm pretty sure it's because of that golf. I thought golf was maybe in our lane and then we're coming to a roundabout here so I'm going to have to take control. lets try to get the autopilot back on there we go and again no lines here no lines to the left or right but it has found its way pretty well and now this is the way to swindon we are going to do but what first thing What we're going to do is navigate on autopilot, so what I'm going to set up quickly is I'm going to set up the green bridge because I'm pretty sure the green bridge should take us down the highway. automatic fire that had a little bit of movement ok well i'm going to go somewhere else so where am i going to go i'm going to go ok you're going to know it didn't wobble there at all i expected it wobbles a little bit just from the way the lines here they disappeared, excuse me, please shut up, thank you, let's see if it works.
Illy no it goes straight right into the roundabout which was actually quite nice I probably would have done this roundabout actually too if I'd have let it do it I think it would have found its way around the roundabout here we go laughs Ali and seriously that the place to eat is so good i walked past it so many times i never went in because it had a weird name but we went in and ate at Sully's and his food is great anyway so this should put us on autopilot to do a little bit of a stretch so I just want to show an on-ramp, off-ramp with maybe a lane change on the freeway here I'm going to put the car back so it's three behind the car in front again instead out of two now as you can see down these roads no problem at all we are entering a small one lane roundabout and i am intrigued as to which lane you are going to choose but not sure let's take a look so we want to be in the right-hand lane but let's see what the car is going to do here yeah it chose that lane i think w kind of forced to choose it to be totally honest and then it will go oh Actually, I don't want to go that way, do I?
I don't even know the lanes. I want to go this way. They have changed this roundabout. recently and it's pretty confusing so you've had it changed you just ran a red light at the moment ok I'll say I'll put it back on autopilot by the time we get to the m4 I wonder if it would work now too it's poly it's going to work no , it doesn't want to work yet, I'm just looking to see if it will, oh, I did it for a split second, was willing to do it at the time and then decided against it, did it again for like another split second and then we turn off there we go alright alright we're on autopilot now and this is navigating on autopilot and this is going to be a lane change merging off the freeway lets cross our fingers that all goes well so the cars don't ask me to do nothing here no one approaching it's asking me to confirm the lane change i've done it and you can see whoa jesus i took care of that because i felt like it was swaying too much and again it's the same problem you're having go every time I merge, it wants me to go to that lane which works smoothly, but I merge again.
I have the same problem every time and it's just that little hiccup where it's like oh can you confirm you're coming but when I confirm it actually changes lanes like a normal lane change and doesn't just slowly merge like so what did he ask? to go out into this center lane and now he's asking me to go back to the first lane but I'm going to stay in this center lane because we're going to pass that truck in a minute but again it shows he's a little undecided which lane he wants you to be in which which is understandable because it cuts, I don't know, it's understandable because it's an American system, I think it works a little different right now, it asks me to go ahead of everyone else, but I kind of don't want to do that because I know I'm going out in a few miles but I'll follow what it says anyway and see if we're actually going to pass this car and again when I have the speed limit set on this when it's on the freeway it actually allows you to go higher so you can see that You could go up to 75, you can go up to 90, while on the other roads it won't let you go over the speed limit if you have it set at all, which is what I have. so allow a little bit of freedom on the freeway because obviously everyone goes a little bit what most people go faster on the freeway yeah so that's pretty cool but like now here we go we He asks us to get into that lane. oh okay grandma won't I'm going to try again here we go and I don't think I'd want her to go into this lane because of this fan in front so I'm actually going to go into that other lane and dodge this van and again go around that truck that has overtaken the truck in front of us but you can see overtaking is abso very good we are set to go back three distances and that worked pretty well for us but it's just the merge onto the highway , just no, it's not working right now, it's not really working right now, okay. let's see what the car says actually the car is going to tell me to get in the left lane what should i do but if it doesn't tell me what's up now that the cars have moved it should tell me this is really annoying come on Tesla you should you should Knowing we can't sit in the third lane like this, we're not the German car anymore, we're American, so we'll take care of everyone, instead it's tracking the cars, well I'm surprised there's only a mile left of that. it hasn't actually asked us to get into that first lane but in fact I'm going to get into the first lane anyway this is weird so a tap doesn't work like the Model X do you really have to force it ? down so it crosses over which is a bit weird to get used to because then the model actually only touches once whereas on this one it's a full stork down so we'll be off the m4 in a minute and I'm intrigued to see how well it comes off the freeway it wasn't good going on just as bad as my Model X was but let's see if it's just as bad off the freeway or if it's going to have a bit more success so it doesn't ask us to change lanes because we're obviously only a mile away from the intersection and now it's telling us to stay or get to the 4th lane, there's no 4th lane, but I'm guessing it means that in the crossover but that's a little weird because you might think that or should pull over to the shoulder but obviously, we're not going Tesla let's do this it's a good round to get out of what it's going to do I hope you stay to the left , no, it's probably going to the right here, you can see that line now and now v to the left which is good and now it's back on normal autopilot which actually went smoothly that was that It went perfect it went perfect and you can see here it's actually slowing us down which is good as we get to this point here, but obviously I have the performance, so who would I be if I didn't try and cut? in front of them and walk away and this is where i really love my car the performance is a bit like i initially thought you might not buy it with the performance side considering i would rather have the range because you would get more range you get more bang for your buck with a long range one but since you have the performance it's really second to none like it's erasing real fast back on autopilot and this is actually oh this is interesting it's actually sailing on autopilot so what What I am going to do is put Green Bridge, which is where I want to go.
I actually want to get to Green Bridge Retail Park, not Green Bridge Road, but you can see here how well it's on autopilot. getting used to the keyboard pretty fast like where everything is so you almost don't have to look at the keyboard there we're going good so let's go to green bridge shopping park and follow the navigator on autopilot all the way so they're at some stage too , everyone, I'll try the magic roundabout and see what the car thinks, but I'm not going to do that. Still interesting I only took a tap there so I think when it's in navigating and it asks to use a lane change you can tap it once and it will work but when you want to do it yourself you have to pull the stick all the way.
This is good. Those who do very well. It's a lovely little cruise. I am intrigued. to know when it asks you to start getting into the left lane i think it will be when you are about a mile from the junction then it will be correct we need to pass but i'm not 100% sure so i'm going to let it do the yours and then only when you ask will I get over it. We are breaking now because of the car in fr. ont and yes you can see there that this lane has said that's the name we should be on so it has this laying down and then it will ask us to go left.
I guess here it is, yeah there you go and I've asked it to stop and it's slowing down and getting behind this car. One thing I have noticed is that autopilot braking and acceleration is much better on this car. a really tough junction for him to get out of. I don't expect him to do this crossover at all. The crossing isn't difficult for a human, but knowing how autopilot navigation works, I'm just not expecting great things here, so I'm hoping no one gets out of this crossing with me so I can let it do whatever it wants, but let's see, OK? and you'll see why I'm not too interested in that in a second, so here. it's here the car is following it ok it's still navigating on autopilot what lanes are they going to pick here it's pi I took the left lane and it actually did and I think it did because of that car in front I think that because the cars in front have just regulated our speed, it has actually been successful and it actually worked very, very well, so I take it back. did great and would have no problem doing it again now ok I'm going for the overtake we're going to the trees we're going to get into this lane so now we're going to go into town so I'm intrigued to see how it works out in the city it is also ok, when will it be activated?
So for the autopilot it did it for a split second at that point and then it went off again, there we go, okay, yeah we're doing this strip and then into Swindon to the green bridge. Park and then I'll drop you off. I'll do a little extra self parking for you all too after yesterday's video Self Parking Everywhere but let me know below in the comments section how you think this has made it better than the Model X or are you going to wait by a fellow side by side Comparison to really tell me which one you think is better and what I think I'll do is make a road have the other car do the road and try to mimic it exactly the same in terms of speed and stuff and just leaving the car obviously changes where it goes.
I guess we're going to have a red light here, which would suck, oh no, we're just doing it right and it followed that row fine when the lights changed, but you see it's running fine, okay. if it's doing well here this is kind of easy to travel to Swindon and in the city itself it's actually doing quite well so we're coming to a one lane roundabout here and I just want to see what Lane is going to pick , obviously it's just going to pick the lane right in front of us, which obviously makes sense, but is he going to follow the lanes?
I'm not 100% sure again. I'm pretty sure Angley read that I liked it. i tried to do that roundabout but i dont think i would have done it correctly just because of t That way like the lines crossed a couple of times so gone AG which is the green bridge retail park over there i like McDonald's Kind of naughty to be honest, but Holly's not with me so I think I could get away with it. one here and yeah we'll try to do an auto park and I also want to buy something to extend the GoPro so it can be a bit lower down because I think the bottom angle down looked better on the model 3 and I need to go and buy myself an arm a little bit longer just so the GoPro can really do that shot down so here we are coming up to the green bridge on the shoe hole run so again they just redeveloped this roundabout in Swindon and it'sso horrible and confusing most people just cut through this place i dont think any car can do this like this place anytime soon because its really very confusing ok let's find a spot and park in said spot do i need a place with two cars on either side are low here but some people were saying I was being a bit too harsh with the auto park feature but to be honest I have never used it in a normal situation and I will show you why because if I you use in a normal situation it's like: it's too slow especially if people drive past you it says we can park there but I'm pretty sure that was where a person was so I'm not going to park in that spot I see if you take somewhere here we go ok we have one on the right so i'm going to take that spot here we go Auto parking in progress no cars around us which is good really hope no one vie ne here but you can see how quickly that Peugeot pulled up in front of us and probably already has went to the stores and got what she needed on time the lady actually in the car behind I think we just got out let's go slow yes the lady is there from there and backwards this part has to be quicker like it's like ah let's go backwards you can see there's a hedge there just go back to the hedge and we're almost parked yeah good job i mean it does it perfectly I'm not going to lie, it was a perfect parking lot, the car on the left looked at us and I bet. you he said that was the slowest parking lot anyone ever did but he got it right so let me know what you think about hardware 3 and hardware 2 which is better and if there is a difference yes or do you think that in the next software updates. that's where we're going to see the real improvement
