Is A $110K 2020 Corvette C8 Worth It? *Mid Engine Corvette*

Feb 27, 2020
So I've been looking at the question: how does the base model Corvette c8 perform with absolutely no options compared to the very flawed Corvette built with all revised options? Well, for starters, the fully loaded Corvette can cost almost twice as much as the base one. Yes, you heard me right. The Corvette C8 costs fifty-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-five dollars, but you can spec one hundred and ten thousand dollars on Chevrolet's website, so just a small addition of fifty thousand options is no big deal, but in all seriousness Chevrolet has upped its game and options for the C8 unfortunately that means you will in all likelihood shell out even more money than you expected.

I mean, I had every intention of building my own Corvette c8 for less than 80 grand, but here I sit with one I ordered for eighty-five grand and even skipped a lot of the carbon fiber parts I wanted. Fortunately, many of them can be added later, but my point is that Chevrolet knows exactly what they are doing and that is why I want to ask the question as a consumer: will you be compensated for the fifty thousand options? If I had to specify one completely, in my opinion the answer is yes and no, because while some options are

worth

it, I would say others are probably or not, but here it is.

More Interesting Facts About,

is a 110k 2020 corvette c8 worth it mid engine corvette...

What each of us is different about is that I don't see value in an option; Someone else might have it on their must-have list, but for the sake of today's video, let's try to break down just how good the sub$60,000.00 c8 is. to the stylish but ridiculously expensive brother for a hundred and ten thousand before we continue, this is going to be a longer video and it's purely for fun. I really pride myself on making quality videos for new information that comes out about the Corvette c8, but today's video. It's more to cater to those who are very curious about the big difference we have in options and what they actually do when you order this car, of course some options like the z51 package speak for themselves but others are harder to narrow down . below, so I think this video might provide some help, but feel free to move on if this isn't what you're looking for right now.

I think the best way to illustrate the rest of this video is to consult Chevrolet's build guide. let's jump over to their website now so here we are on Chevrolet's website and before we jump right in I was going to mention it but then I saw some people mentioned in the comments that they had a hard time finding it and I think maybe. they were going to car or performance trying to find the c8 of course these are just the c7 generation and some Camaros that we actually have to go to in the future and then we will find the

2020

Corvette.

There was a sign that looked like this . on the main page and you can click on it, but it's probably pretty easy to miss. I just wanted to show the few that might be confused where it is and then we can go build the coupe. I used to be the visualizer. Now we have the coupe, the construction we still don't have the convertible. I guess it'll be a few more months and that will come out, but we can build the coupe and my point is I want to show you those videos that you absolutely can build.
Get the car for fifty-nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-five dollars, of course there will be some taxes and probably dealer fees, but you can get an MSRP Corvette for less than sixty. I have seen people comment saying that it is not possible, we can get through here very quickly. and I'll show you that it's completely possible to build this car and we'll take a quick look at everything we get in terms of this, so obviously we'll only have the coupe if we hit this little price here shows you that having fifty eight nine is the real price of the car and then they included the destination that is always there, so they did a little bit of marketing to make sure that they could say, "Hey, we have a c8 Corvette for under sixty grand." I'm sure everyone is aware of what they are doing there, but they are still an incredible value because this is what we are going to see in an LT, we can't add the other two models, they cost money, but if we build this the most basic way. version, these are all the things you get and there are some interesting additions here that come as standard: the GT one seats, I think people will find them to be fine, it's Mulan leather, it's not Napa, but this car is pretty well positioned even just in its basic form, but the main thing I want to take a look at is the mechanical feature and that is that you still get a 6.2 liter v8 even with the $60,000 car, you don't have to spend 70 80 90, you can 459 95, absolutely you can get this same

engine

, yes it's less than five horsepower because with the top model and you get the z51 it adds five horsepower and five pound-feet of torque but that's pretty negligible and what I would say is that this is a little right here. three seconds with the z51 less than three seconds with the z51 is a bit of marketing five seconds or five horsepower is pretty insignificant and I guess we've already heard Chevrolet say that it's very close in performance from the non-z51 to the z51, so which this car will probably be It will still be a sub 3 second car, it's just not enough, the extra traction you get from the mid

engine

you get with the base car, so, and of course the 8 speed dual clutch transmission which I just went through and it comes on every iteration of the car, whether it's your low 60 or the more expensive 110 and then all of this comes standard.
I'm not going to go over all this interior which kind of defeats the purpose, but this all comes standard and you can come check it out. it costs 459,995 so if we move up those are some really cool things that you want to see and that you get and then of course that compounds as we move up to the higher trim levels these are your free options in terms of colors, arctic white. the road to Zeus bronze metallic some of these are really nice this blade silver metallic I think the car is going to look phenomenal I think we've seen some of the pre-production versions and the pictures I've seen they look great with some black wheels and even the z51 package adding a little bit of that carbon flash or true carbon if you want but if you order a low car you can get this color so we have some premium colors a lot of people like this quick blue I think the coat of Sebring orange tint is amazing.
I've seen it in a fantastic zero colorway, but we can't add any of that. If we look, we reach inside ourselves. We actually have three options: jet black. We can see it here. cold gray sky this is what I saw in person it looks fantastic a lot of people are concerned about what they have seen on the pre production models remember a lot of people have sat around and they haven't done a great job keeping it clean I think the wear is very dramatic , you will never have the amount of wear we are seeing unless your car is.
I guess maybe you use it for Toro or something where you rent it and it gets overused if you just use it yourself. I don't think your products are going to be that bad, but these are your options and they are all free, so you have adrenaline red, sky, cool gray and jet black as our interiors, so the value is there. I mean, this is what Unfortunately, once we have two packages, we can add the z51. We'll talk a little more about that in a second. The C8's Achilles heel in terms of options are the wheels.
I don't think the wheels. We can click here and then take a closer look at the wheels. These are your only free option. They are staggered 19 out of 20 for the rear and anything else is an upcharge and pretty much all other options in the future if I can believe it. I'm right, it's a surcharge, the gt1 bucket seats can't add any of this, so here you go. I mean, you can't order the car. I know this is a very basic build, but here you go, this car is very fast, just as fast. pretty much the z51 and we'll get into that a little bit in a second, but you can't order this car this way and you have a few options at your disposal to customize the car, it just opens up a lot more. options as we build the car so what I'm going to do is open another tab here and using incognito I think it won't save my options if I go in here to build vehicles then I do this. again and we do a compilation.
I think I have a new build option. Well, maybe not. I think so. I think I just saved it, but I think if we make some changes here, they won't be made here. Hopefully not. Yes that's how it is. I'll adjust accordingly, but let's move on, so obviously with the coupe, now this is where we'll talk a little bit about whether there's value or not and I would say the 2lt for most people, they say it's their best deal and you get all. We looked here at all of this plus all of this and obviously you're adding a significant cost because it's almost a 60, you know, 300 dollar option that you're essentially adding to this vehicle to get all of this, heads up though. screen, it didn't have ventilated seats, those are really nice, but the performance data recorder, which was a standalone option on the model before the c7, I think it was like eighteen hundred and fifty dollars, is now integrated into this package, so You know you should add that.
These cameras are very nice, especially the curb view which helps you make sure the lower front of your car is protected as you approach the curb. You can turn it on and get a camera image with your little infotainment system from where you are. Do you know how to get closer to the sidewalk to protect your car a little? I don't know if any of them are absolutely essential. If you're a big audio guy or gal, this is supposedly a system I haven't heard it on. person, but it will blow your mind with how good it is for a vehicle.
A lot of people have said they've heard it and it really says that Bose has taken a big step forward for this vehicle. It was actually built just for the Corvette. Your options again won't be too many, but again without the z51 you will get exactly the same mechanical performance that you know with this version? However, we're actually going to go up to the 3 LT, this is the most expensive version, go ahead and add that and we need this and this shows you everything we've seen so far, plus you get the custom leather interior. Now the Corvette I'm ordering is a 3 LT for now.
I have gone back and forth on the most important reasons. I opted for the 2lt as I sat in the GT 2 seats and I love them and it upgrades your interior to nappa leather, it's real leather, it's not fake leather and you get some carbon fiber trim that goes with everything. and then you have some other custom leather-wrapped interiors. I saw 3lt in person and I loved it. This is my daily driver so I wanted them, but it's a hefty price tag. I mean, we're adding, you know, essentially, almost. Think $11,000 just in trims and you're not making the car faster off the line, you're not changing anything, we have to have the z51 for a bit of a change for that extra power, so let's move on and that's for you. gives an idea. we wanted to be crazy, you know, if we're building this as expensive as possible, we have to choose one of these, you have these two options as the most expensive, we go with the Sebring orange dye coat and then we do it.
I'm a fan of the full length dual racing stripes, but we'll be using the carbon flash again. The point of this video is to show you what you can get if you go all the way on the Tilt, choose every possible option and go to about a hundred and ten thousand, which is crazy and you really have to figure out what options make sense and what don't, and then I think even if we go for these customs, we will use this custom interior. I think so there is an upcharge for your custom interior if you do the microfiber inserts with the jet black over Scott, yeah let's do it then here's your z51.
I'm not going to go into it too much, this is what you get. I've said it before if the only reason you needed this car wasn't to track it, you don't really need this. The biggest problem I have with not getting this is that you can't get a magnetic suspension and again, that's for another video, but the magnetic suspension is a huge plus for the car. it gives you a much more dynamic ride the magnetic dampers are amazing and you can't add that option without this option and you can't add it later so we'll go ahead and add this z51 because again this is the most expensive version of the appearance package of the engine of the car, which is the lighting and the carbon fiber in the rear engine bay, we're still trying to keep this video as short as possible.
I think we're done with Hardy, more than 10 minutes, let's go, let's go and then. Let's add again, I'm not a big fan. Not even these five Trident spoke wheels are what I was going to see on the black version, but if we go down here, let's go ahead and click on all of these as we go, here's your magnetic ride. Selective suspension ride control here gives youa little information about it. We're going to go ahead and select it, which is a huge plus and I'd say almost makes it

worth

getting the z51 package; It almost hurt him $6,800 for this. because realistically for the average person who isn't going to track the car you don't need the z51 but it's nice to have so it's probably one of the biggest tug of war fights you should have to determine what the shame for you or not.
I think front linkages with memory are a very good option. Most people who buy this car have probably owned a sports car before, but if you haven't, you don't realize how low these cars can be and can easily scratch you if you do. We're going to use carbon and we'll talk about that in a second. I feel like it's a must because it will help you from scraping the front of your car. It's going to be a lot easier to scrape it off and then you realize we have to add some orange painted calipers. You're really going to want to stick with the black one, but for the ridiculous terms of this video, we're going to go ahead and add it because it adds to the price of the package, now you don't have to do this, but here are our accessories and you can add them.
These are a standalone wheel kit and I think the black one probably looks better but I was going to do these wheels for my build I won't because at this price I'm going to save the money and I'm going to go ahead and get a set of wheels from Aftermarket, that's what I think is a better set, these wheels look. actually pretty good in person, but they wouldn't necessarily go with the build I'm doing. I guess they could if I was doing red but I'm going to stick with black just because I have other black accents with the carbon flash continues so we'll add we want black so we want it to be crazy some of these what they want for $ 225 with nuts, go and find typical nuts anywhere for less than probably half that. cost, but for the terms again, for the purpose of this video, let's add the metallic brands that cost two hundred and forty-five dollars, not a big fan, but each one some people will like and then here are their test packs because we go more.
Expensive, the most expensive option you can get is the carbon fiber double roof. This gives you a bag to store the roof. You actually get two. You'll go ahead and select to have the body color painted and then you'll also get the carbon fiber roof. dual or I think you can also choose clear, yes it is visible with the body color so I guess it is actually clear and carbon fiber but $3500 is quite expensive and then we go down obviously you get the z51 come on to go up to the high wing and that's in flash carbon I think it looks pretty cool I know some people think it looks flashy I think it looks pretty decent and the nice thing is that it's an accessory that you can add after the fact if you're a bit I'm on the fence about it and you get the z51.
It's actually a pretty simple plugin. You buy it through your Chevrolet dealer and they will install it using the same holes as your z51 spoiler, the low spoiler, then we get two less, the z51 package. It is by far the most expensive package and that is the carbon fiber. This is real carbon fiber. You get the appearance package, you get the front splitter and the side panels and they look fantastic. No one has really seen them in person because they just haven't been. Built under the name of those pre-production models, the only carbon fiber we've seen is the rear engine bay package and it looks like very high quality carbon fiber, so I don't think you'll have any problems, but if we're going to get this kit is expensive we don't have to add any of the ones we already have here is a rear fascia guard oh that's why we're not going to go ahead and add it we don't really need it but it's an option and We can go to the exterior badge package chrome because it costs money, let's go to the front of the car.
I think we can get a better front view for the rest of these to show you. Okay, so we can use shadow gray. These are your four nine exterior accents. ninety five and it turns shadow gray, so what we want is to add these visible carbon fiber grille inserts, they look great, I think this shows us a picture, it's this carbon fiber, the ads here if you're doing all this carbon fiber, why not? At two grand I think it's a ridiculous price, but it's genuine carbon fiber and will probably look pretty good. I think there's nothing wrong, although with carbon flash moving forward, you won't want carbon flash mirrors if we're going.
The most expensive thing is that you want the real carbon fiber covers. If you're somewhere in the middle, most people won't choose the most expensive options possible unless you just won the lottery. I would say the simple carbon fiber covers. They're much better, these are a much better price, I mean, eleven forty-five versus what you get for two thousand. I'm totally sold on the simple covers. I think they look much better and it will be nice and we can't add to the person. In fact, with the construction we have here of this custom car cover because they don't make one with the high brim and ground effects package, so make sure you take note of that, if I were to order this, I would try to do it. take off I think a lot of things or not it normally does I don't know why it let me do that I know we can't take delivery from the Corvette Museum if I try to do it it will try to take off because you can We won't get the high wing with delivery to the museum, it's one of the reasons I can't tell you why, and then the competition bucket seats we'll go ahead and get to that, that's a premium and honestly, this is going to be for a long time.
Few people would highly recommend the gt2 seats over the competition, unless you're pretty focused on the track with the car you're buying, then it makes sense, but the nappa leather with the gt2 seats I think looks better, I think it's prettier. it's a better material, but to each his own, let's go ahead and add I don't know what color right now this build looks a little crazy, but we'll go ahead and add orange seat belts, which red looks terrible, but that's not the point that increases the price, of course, we want the carbon fiber finish for the interior, which costs $1,500, which gives you a little more carbon fiber.
We can customize the interior plate and of course we want the $1450 premium travel bags, why? no and there we have a hundred and nine thousand dollars, so essentially almost 50 thousand dollars in options and the car is not much faster. I know it has a z51, but it really comes down to aesthetics and you'll notice I'm going back to the other one. car and there's a dramatic difference, I mean, absolutely, especially on the outside, you'll see a difference now, is it worth fifty grand again, there's a lot of asterisks, you know, I would say with that statement because you get a lot of cool stuff PDR, you get seats and leather, there are a lot of options, but it's worth it, especially if you're looking for a performance car that you know will work well for you.
I know the handling will be better with the z51 package but for the average consumer this car right here is the best price per dollar to spend on this one there is just a lot of value here and I guess my argument is how much value you get of this low c8 and so while there are tons of options and I love that you can really customize this car to your liking some of them just don't make much sense you know the mag ride is probably the hardest to justify just because it costs a lot, but it's a great, a great option for the z51 car itself.
I don't think many people need carbon fiber, it's just too expensive. You can add almost 10,000 or maybe more than 10,000 worth of carbon fiber to this car alone. 10,000 and options only for carbon fiber. but if you have the money aesthetically the car will look very attractive so that's something to keep in mind while building or speccing your car for the future, maybe you already have it, maybe this video has helped you understand it. make sure you're looking for value, make sure you have an idea of what you're looking for with this car, but I know it was a long and tedious video.
I think we're almost 20 minutes in, which is crazy, but I just wanted to. To post this video, I wanted to show everyone exactly how big of a difference we can see between a sixty thousand and a hundred and ten thousand dollar car and obviously it's mostly aesthetics, you get some performance, but in terms of zero speed. at sixty your 8 speed transmission is very close, they'll be almost identical, you'll really have to go to the aftermarket to really get that extended so that's something to keep in mind, thank you very much again. for joining me on today's video, if you found it helpful, you enjoyed it at all, please consider hitting the like button, it really supports my channel and I can't express how much I appreciate that if you are new to the channel you would consider joining.
