IPVanish VPN Settings / Setup / Split Tunneling

IPVanish VPN Settings / Setup / Split Tunneling
welcome back to the streamer tips YouTube channel and in this video we're going to talk about a VPN a little bit and the IP vanished specifically and look at the

settings

and tell you the way that I like to have it set up also how you can bypass certain apps from using the VPN if you don't want them to use the VPN such as Netflix or Hulu or something you want to get the most out of your internet or does not allow a VPN and even even in your local network so we're gonna check all that
ipvanish vpn settings setup split tunneling
out right here on the streamer tips YouTube channel right now so first just go ahead and I'm gonna click the

settings

the little gear in the upper right corner and take a look at some of the

settings

in the

ipvanish

application now you can see here if you start at the top you've got Android startup and of course that's pretty simple you put a little checkmark in that start

ipvanish

box that way each time you turn your device on it's automatically gonna start

ipvanish

or you can
leave it unchecked if you do not want that and then you go on down there a little bit and you'll see Auto reconnect as well I have a checkmark in that one and if you ever lose a Wi-Fi connection or server disconnects or something it's going to automatically reconnect for you so you won't get caught off guard that's really something you probably won't check that away it stays connected all times and we'll reconnect if something does happen then you've got allow LAN
access now this one here is quite important as well especially if you're going to be doing any kind of like plex server or Kodi server and you're going to be doing it within your local network or sending something to your printer you may need to allow LAN access or your VPN may block that so by turning that on it's not going to have the VPN go through your local area network that'll way you'll be able to use your areas on your network without any issues with the VPN running
now

split

tunneling

is a really really nice feature this is one of the most popular ones I think that's came out and it helps a lot of people because of a lot of people have certain apps they really didn't want to use their VPN with or apps that does not allow it now when you go and

split

tunneling

you're going to see a list of all the applications you have installed and you'll be able to select any of those applications you don't really want to use the VPN with thus it's
going to go straight through your ISP and your in your information is not going to beacon cryptid one example is hulu as you see here hulu does not allow VPN access and if you go ahead and just put a checkmark in here you'll still be able to leave your VPN turned on and as you look through here a Phoenix TV you'd probably want to leave the VPN a little Anatomy uncheck that and you can see there now you also notice there's not a whole lot of apps in here and and I actually have
ipvanish vpn settings setup split tunneling
Netflix installed and you don't see it in here so I'm going to show you if you go to the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen here and click on that you're gonna see more options and you can show system apps now it's going to show all of the apps including all of the system apps that are built in and with an Nvidia shield Netflix is one that's kind of built in the same would apply on a fire TV so if you're trying to have say prime video go through not go
through the VPN so you just want it to bypass the VPN you'd go to system apps and you're going to find Prime video in here on a fire TV and you can go ahead and select it so we'll scroll down here and you can see any system app you can now bypass the VPN if you would like to do so and right there it is Netflix so you can click on that and then now Netflix will not be using the VPN you won't get any proxy error messages or anything like that and you can keep your VPN running so
the

split

tunneling

just works very well to bypass apps so you don't have to turn your VPN off to use something turn it back on to use something so it'll be set up the way you want it to use what you do and do not want to be going through the VPN so we're going to go ahead and test this I've connected the VPN and you're going to see because I have an account of Hulu it's actually free through my mobile provider and I'm going to go ahead and try to launch a show you
can see anonymous proxy you appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool you need to disable it to access Hulu now before you would have to go in disconnect your VPN go ahead and launch Hulu watch it when you want to turn your VPN back on when you're done for something else you would have to turn your VPN on and all that not anymore just go ahead and go to

ipvanish

settings

again go down to

split

tunneling

and look for Hulu now I have all of the system apps showing you can hide those since
it's not a system app and then that'll way there will be less to choose from well we can find it real easy and real fast if it's not in here you may need to look through system apps click Hulett then you do need to go ahead and disconnect your server from IP vanished after you make the

settings

and reconnect it otherwise the cities won't take effect until you do disconnect and reconnect now we're going to go relaunch Hulu with the VPN running but it should bypass the VPN
ipvanish vpn settings setup split tunneling
it's not going to be using the VPN it's just going to go around it and this time you don't get no anonymous proxy tool it did come up and work just fine so that's how you can use the

split

tunneling

and why it's a great feature for you to set up for anything you don't want to have to use the VPN for the next setting is scramble now this one I don't use you probably won't need to use a whole lot but if you're in an area where VPNs are not allowed such as China
or some country or place city or state or somewhere that literally prohibits the use of VPN and it just don't your internet don't work you can try scramble and it will try to hide the fact that you're using one again probably not something you will need to use VPN protocol here I usually use the UDP a setting you can use the UDP setting or you can use the TCP

settings

the TCP setting is actually a little more reliable but it's much slower the UDP setting is just fine though and
in most cases if you're streaming HD movies or torrenting you'll want to use the you DBC UDP setting for the fastest connection you'll get a lot faster speeds with that one and the security is just fine now we're going to look at the ports I have mine set to 4 4 3 you can try 1194 + 8 4 4 3 yeah you probably either 1194 443 is fine if you find I found in maybe an app or something you get buffering or something you can try different port it might also make your internet service
provider not know you're using a VPN if you're stuck on one for a long period of time to switch it and kind of make it look like kind of try to trick them if they're trying to throttle your connection or something but for the most part the top two will be fine you can play around with that if you'd like the last thing I'm going to show you here is basically when you're connecting to your server not always the best available is always the best it tries to choose the best
available but you can go in here of course you can see here and choose your country and then if you're in the United States like I am you can choose your state and you can actually probably want to choose one that's closest to you from me that's Dallas and then you can actually go to the server and choose a particular server in Dallas and try to find one that has a lower latency

settings

there but a ratings they all look about the same here but sometimes you'll find a server that
is much better and you like that server so if you're having trouble with your servers try to pick them individually and that might help you from me best available always works just fine and I'll even do a speed test and show you what I get with my BP and without and I have 50 not just fastest internet in the world the speed of my internet is a 50 down so I'll do a real quick speed test and we'll see what it's like with the Dallas set to best server and

ipvanish

so I'm
using the analytic which is free in the Play Store it's also free on a fire TV I believe so you can download that and run a test of your internet speed for having an internet speed of 50 I'm getting 48 I usually clock in at about 57 without a VPN 57 58 somewhere in there and we'll try that here in a second now I'm going to go ahead and disconnect my VPN and retest it without it active just click disconnect go back and let's rerun the test there it is it's a little faster
on about lost about 10 lost about 10 megabytes per second with the VPN so that's where your

split

tunneling

can come in hand if you want to maximize your internet you don't really need a VPN for an app go ahead and you

split

tunneling

select those apps you don't want to use a VPN and you'll get to higher speeds and you won't have any blocked issues that's pretty much it that is pretty much it a quick rundown of the

settings

and I will be having some other videos on how
you can get a VPN activated on various devices including your fire TV including your Nvidia shield and even your Chromebook device if you're streaming on a Chromebook yes you can use your

ipvanish

account with it I'll show you how you can set that up in some future videos well I hope this helped you out if it did for please give it a thumbs up on this video subscribe and if you do need an IP vanish account the link will be in the description below you guys have a great day you
