from here to the Jewish area. (upbeat music) I don't know much about the influence and history of the Jews in Rome, but I do know that there has been a Jewish influence for many years and this Jewish area of Rome was officially established in 1555. There are several different Italian Jewish restaurants in this area. I chose to come to one called Nonna Betta. - Thank you. - Thank you. One of the most famous Roman Jewish dishes or something like an appetizer starter is fried artichoke. They are fried to make them crispy. You can see that little bit of salt on top.
This looks fantastic. In fact, you can see how the inside will be nice and probably soft, while the outside will be crispy and crunchy. Let me try to put all those layers together. Oh yeah, the inside is creamy like cooked eggplant and then those outer layers are crispy and a little chewy and then they're nicely salted. Actually, those outer leaves are the artichoke. They were too chewy to chew, so I probably ate them wrong because it's an artichoke, so it has those very chewy, leaf-like outside things from the artichoke, so the inside is very soft and then you eat all that meat from those. leaves.

Like that any artichoke, even so, bites into all that soft, sticky part at the bottom.
