I Read Dune, I Watched Dune, I Listened to Dune - Here are my thoughts (Dune book and movie Review)

I Read Dune, I Watched Dune, I Listened to Dune - Here are my thoughts (Dune book and movie Review)
what's going on

book

tube today i'm going to be doing a

review

over

dune

but i'm going to be doing it a little bit differently than how i typically do typically i like to go in like a an order i like to talk about the plot the characters the world building and the writing skills slash pros of the author but i didn't want to do that for this story i will cover all four sections but i'm going to do it in a different format if you're subscribed to my channel i've been following me for a while you know that some one of my goals for this year is to

read

as many new authors as i can in as many different subgenres of fantasy and sci-fi as possible so i'm trying to start as many new stories as i can if you haven't subscribed i do post videos every monday and thursday so make sure you subscribe to get notified when the next one hits but the reason i'm doing this is so that i can experience as many different stories as possible and what this means is that i wasn't planning on

read

ing

read

ing any

book

s this year and i'm not planning on

read

ing the second third fourth

book

of a series this year however i did end up making an exception for

dune

and i didn't continue with the series but i did re-

read

the

book

in an actual

book

format so i

read

dune

right after i

listened

to it and i did it for a reason i hear a lot from the people in the fantasy community or sci-fi community that it's a really difficult

book

to

read

and when i

listened

...
i read dune i watched dune i listened to dune here are my thoughts dune book and movie review
to it i was worried about not being able to understand it and i totally see what they meant like t

here

were times it was challenging and confusing and audio format i couldn't imagine what it would have been like picking this

book

up as a paper copy and

read

ing it for the first time and i wanted to see if it was as difficult as everyone said so i ended up re-

read

ing this after i

listened

to it so i have

read

dune

i have

listened

to

dune

and i have

watched

dude and this video is going to kind of go over all three mediums of

dune

and then what i got out of each one and what i feel like you need to know it should cover all four major parts of a

review

but done a little bit differently and i am going to start with the

book

and i see why so many people say it's so confusing to

read

i think one of the biggest challenges is right out of the bat you start off confused t

here

's a huge learning curve to the world building of the story he uses words name vocabulary that we don't understand and then he never really explains what these things are we're supposed to use the the our observations our learned experience through the story to come up with meanings for this words so we don't know what benny gestrup means we don't know what a sardicar is we don't know what mentats are like we have to form their understandings from context clues in the story it's like we're an infant being born into this world and our parents are teaching us through our learned...
i read dune i watched dune i listened to dune here are my thoughts dune book and movie review
experiences what this world building does is it leaves us confused and it's hard to follow a plot when you're confused so i think that is a huge obstacle for people

read

ing

dune

read

ing the the

book

format it is hard to follow because in all formats t

here

's a huge learning curve another reason this story is difficult is because it's almost like it's a psychological uh philosophical thriller so like he'll introduce something you'll

read

something that sets the scene and you're confused it automatically makes you confused you have a question and then that question gets answered three chapters in or 10 chapters in so t

here

's like the suspenseful thriller like feel to the

book

w

here

you're always asking questions and the last part that makes this

book

hard to

read

and i think is w

here

most people um probably suffer or get get held up on is that it's written in third person omniscient and t

here

's a reason people don't do this anymore in third person omniscient their narrator switches back and forth not only between

thoughts

and plot within the same sentence but they can switch between character

thoughts

and plot and both within the same sentence and it makes it very confusing to follow the story for

read

ers especially when they make all these switches rapidly and without explanation i think this is probably the biggest thing stopping people from enjoying

read

ing doom this is extremely difficult to

read

and even after listening to...
i read dune i watched dune i listened to dune here are my thoughts dune book and movie review
it t

here

were times i had to re-

read

i found myself re-

read

ing paragraphs or sentences to make sense of the story however now that i have experienced it this way and seeing how the story how third person omniscient can add to the story i seriously can't imagine

dune

written any other way and i love it it's a great way to tell a story it just takes effort on the

read

er and it takes persistence so those are my

thoughts

on the

book

itself and really the story itself as i'll as you'll see why as i talk through the next two types of storytelling so for audio i i first experienced

dune

by listening to it and it was very well done uh the world building was still somewhat confusing because w

here

as authors will typically do some sort of info dump at some point i don't know if i ever got that with

dune

i essentially had to learn what these things i had to learn what a mentap was from experiencing the world like i still don't know if i know the true definition of a menta maybe he explains it in further

book

s along the

dune

series but as of right now i'm just having to use his explanations to come up with what it is but w

here

the audio version does make things crystal clear is it it organizes that third person omniscient the audio

book

uses so many different voice actors and they are all so good they even have voice and sound effects in it that really help distinguish what's going on in the story without like a musical like it doesn't have any of those...
musical undertones to it to take draw you out of the story but the voice actors and the sound effects that are are in the story make it easier to follow like the audio version i wasn't as confused about who was speaking when they were speaking it was this a thought or was this um action or was this dialogue like all that confusion was gone with the audio version so if you're trying to experience this and you're thinking to yourself should i

read

it or should i listen to it i highly suggest listening to this first like i thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and still even with that second

read

read

ing it was nice but i think i preferred like it was more enjoyable to listen to than it was to

read

now i want to talk about the

movie

the

movie

was really really well and t

here

's two ways that people adapt a story from the

book

s to the film and one of them is to follow the storyline almost exactly like try to stay true to the

book

as closely as possible and then they're like hey i'm gonna base this story off of the

book

it's going to have like the same character maybe a little bit of the same um magic but the story is going to be different

dune

falls into the first category it the the

dune

movie

follows the story very closely very closely and they did a good job being able to adapt such a hard style of storytelling onto film however i

watched

it after al

read

y experiencing it in two other mediums so i came into the story a little bit primed knowing what to...
expect and i still got a little bored at first like i i was a little bored with the story for a long time and then i talked to my brother who also likes science fiction fantasy type stuff but doesn't

read

as much he's never

read

dune

and he i think he

watched

an hour of that

movie

and three times and cannot get into it he says he just he cannot get into the story so it made me wonder if the

movie

was just good for me because i i'm reminiscing about the

book

i want to know your guys's take on it like if you've only

watched

the

movie

let me know um if like hey yeah this was such a good

movie

like it did it justice because before this

movie

this

book

was said to be impossible to adapt to television or to film like it was supposed to be impossible to adapt to the big screen they had even tried in the past and that was apparently an utter failure but i felt like they succeeded with this

movie

i felt like they stayed true to the story the cinema but being able to see the story in like person like being able to see it with my own eyes like fight fighting with shields like trying to break through shields with a with a sword like seeing that work played out on film was awesome the first time you see that sand worm it's amazing like it added a lot to the story which is what i ask of film adaptations i want the film to tell to add to the story it doesn't have to tell me a different story i want it to add to the story that al

read

y exists and i feel like doom...
did that

dune

was released during one of my vacation periods of school i think and i came back and one of my buddies was like hey did you watch

dune

because he knows i like sci-fi and fantasy i was like no i didn't he's like i

watched

the

movie

three times you have to go home and watch it right now and it's like three times oh that's a good

movie

but once you see how long

dune

is he watching he had to have liked it and he doesn't

read

sci-fi or fantasy so his reaction to it kind of makes me feel like maybe my brother's one of the outliers because other people who don't

read

or aren't familiar with the story have seemed to be able to like and follow this

movie

so in conclusion out of these three mediums i think the audio

book

actually added the most to the story i enjoyed the audio version more than

read

ing it or the

movie

with its cast of voice actors and sound effects and being able to give you the full story that a

book

does while still keeping it organized and straight even though the um the way it's written can be confusing the audio

book

did a great job sorting all that out and making it easy to enjoy after that i would still say that the

book

it like the story of the

book

was good enough that i prefer it over the

movie

if i had time like if i had time to devote to

read

the

book

and just sit down and relax and like the

book

is the way to go but the

movie

is probably something i'll enjoy again before i do another listen of doom just...
because it's more accessible like it's easier to get the story of

dune

through the

movie

than sitting down and

read

ing a

book

that'll take me days to

read

ooh another fun fact about the

movie

before we go i was i was confused with the storyline w

here

it ended because the

movie

does not end w

here

the first

book

ends and i don't think this is a huge problem because even

book

one of

dune

the first doom

book

does not feel like a complete story to me it almost feels like an epic prologue to this greater adventure which it is apparently like it's it i mean this this series is

book

s long and it has several different sub series i think so i'm expecting a lot more out of this series and it did have a nice little okay closing like it wasn't like left on a cliff hanger per se but it did feel like an epic prologue it didn't feel like an end of a story so the fact that the

dune

movie

didn't finish w

here

the

book

did i wasn't real upset about and it makes me want to make the second

dune

book

my priority for the beginning of next year because my feeling is that this next dude

movie

is probably going to go into some of that second

book

to kind of make it feel like complete stories like the first

movie

ended at a pretty good spot like it was a spot w

here

you're okay with the ending the second

movie

i see it being maybe tied up either at the end of the first

book

or maybe a little into the second

book

i'm excited to see w

here

it goes and i do...
plan on finishing the second

dune

before watching it but that concludes this video thank you guys for watching i post videos every monday and thursday so make sure you like and subscribe to get notified when the next video drops until then i hope you're out t
