i made a lentil loaf for jenna
well welcome back to my kitchen it is well it's currently the holidays it is the holidays Happy Hanukkah Merry Christmas I hope everyone is currently in really blissful state you know maybe with some good food or alcohol or both maybe next to a fire eating a bowl of cereal or a bowl of ice cream followed by a bowl of cereal or two bowls of cereal on top of your head with straws going down but then the cereal couldn't get through so you're just drinking milk never mind scratch that
during the holidays and I wanted to make a holiday sort of a holiday video for you today this will be actually my last video of the year so I'm excited to finish strong attempt one more solid recipe before we call it and it's 2020 and the decade is over this is my final attempt at doing good cooking yeah I never really thought to make something like this until a special someone

told me that she really wanted me to make one for her she has told me over and over again that alentil
loaf
or some sort of meatloaf
substitute is something that she's wanted for a long time and really hasn't gotten whether it's been making it buying it eating at a restaurant whatever it is she has craved that for kind of a long time so I figured last recipe the year let's do this one forJenna
so I looked around on the internet and I found a couple different recipes and I'm gonna do kind of what I do a lot of the time is I'm going to piece together a number of differentrecipes to make my own recipe so I'm taking a little bit from one and a couple of the methods and ingredients from another and we're gonna make our own Aries mess of a recipe our mess opee so that's what we're gonna do and I'm actually excited because

for so long that I mean it's gotta live up to the hype right well I hope it does anyway whether you want to make aloaf
alongside me or you want to be a little from thecouch join me in this journey to make a

so I have taken the time to actually sort of portion out and put together the ingredients were going to be needing for this recipe and an attempt to make this just a little bit less of a show you're gonna need some pretty nice-looking ingredients for this recipe namely these orange or I guess they're technically redlentil

s you got that guy you're gonnaneed some spices some garlic some breadcrumbs mushrooms and we're also going to need to chop some fresh vegetables namely our pepper yellow onion carrots and celery and I think this recipe is more or less straightforward the first thing we're gonna do though is cook the

s that I have chosen these beautiful redlentil
s they are raw don't spill one singlelentil

anyway you're gonna takeabout a cup of

s I'm thinking a cup of rawlentil
s will be the perfect amount to yield between one and a half and two cups of cookedlentil
s so you're gonna take a cup of rawlentil
s and you're going to add a little bit of water and you're gonna get it to a boil and let them cook for about 15 minutes okay so we're gonna do that in the background here so we're gonna take ourlentil
s maybe a little one and we're gonna add some water and we're just going to getthat to a boil so that the
lentil
s can be cooked by the time we need to combine all of our ingredients in the meantime let's get to choppin so we are going to need to dice all of these vegetables two stalks of celery two carrots about a half of a yellow onion and about three quarters of a bell pepper I think so let's put these aside and let's let's skin the carrot just even right there we go I thinkJenna
grew up eating meatloaf
I think that was like a thing that her family atea lot and I think because of that she's had this craving for it whereas me I like did not have meat
loaf
growing up I don't think even once I literally can't remember ever eating meatloaf
I know that's crazy because it's actually an American hearty dinner that families have but yeah I never had meloaf
so I feel like based on the ingredients and the fact that you put ketchup on the table I feel like it's gonna have a similar flavor profile to the meat pie the Aussie piethat we
made
a couple episodes ago just based on looking at the ingredients but who knows if that's even right anyway we're gonna get these nice and fine you're gonna spill a bunch of carrots all over the floor it's okay because we have little horsies that can walk around and eating I recommend having little horses around your house for that reason challahlentil
s doing you guys boiling yet all right I can lower the heat a little bit I don't even know how to cooklentil
s Ididn't read the package okay I feel like we have a good amount of carrots I'll leave these carrots on the floor for the horses all pretty much sized appropriately and we were going to just drop him into our veggie Bowl oh one more thing that I forgot to mention this isn't just gonna be a
lentil

because personally I think that sounds kind of bland what we're going to do is we're gonna do partlentil
s and vegetables and part this because adding fake groundbeef that tastes this good you really just can't go wrong with the flavor there so we're gonna do that so I would say if you're doing this recipe or one of the recipes I've linked maybe just take out some of the
lentil
s and add I don't know maybe a half a package of the beyond and ground beef all right here we go once again we're gonna dice them and then we're gonna get them a little bit extra fine extra fine better hold on wait calm down don't skip ahead I I knowyou guys are getting antsy and you want to skip ahead to the next step but just wait okay I know what you're doing okay I heard you this camera's got a two-way mic I don't know how that works then you're gonna take the cutting board and you're gonna spin on your finger ah it's just like a basketball very easy up happy holidays oh okay why am I like this why am I like this where actually you need two bowls for the veggies next we're gonna chop this onion how are we
doing over here plenty babies oh we need more water I think Valente babies were thirsty we're gonna chop off the ends we're gonna do our little super fine dice method that I learned from The Legend of Gordon Ramsay score it on top and then you're gonna score through the middle twice uno dos like that then when you chop it should come out as a diced onions this you should not feed your tiny horses they will want to eat it because they enjoy inflicting harm upon themselves but
don't let them don't trust them either they might open your pantry too if you don't have that shut and locked oh god it's getting emotional oh my god I'm crying I just want to say thank you guys for a great year I mean I am thankful for a great year but I'm not crying about it it's the onions I swear I feel like that would be a t-shirt at like a tourist boardwalk now one of those corny t-shirt shops it's the onions I swear when the clever t-shirt hits and
you're on vacation so we're gonna take about one and a half of this bell pepper headed hot dog style or lengthwise and then we're gonna dice it okay this is actually a satisfying recipe to to prepare because I don't know I don't really cook I don't know in general a lot of vegetables I probably cook way less than I should be whoa calm down when tea guy plenty babies just getting a little wild over here we're gonna let that simmer for a little bit anyway what I was
saying is I don't really eat enough vegetables nor cook enough vegetables but when I do cook like really colorful beautiful vegetables it's super satisfying to me to see the colors I don't know it's sort of like when you eat skittles except this rainbow that you're tasting isn't the diabetes kind who dropped all these carrots now it's about time to saute our vegetables which includes our onion bell pepper celery carrot diced mushrooms and after a few minutes garlic as
well so let's get sauteing you know I had saute it too oh my god I'm just gonna quickly dice up these mushrooms because I did not do that yet you're gonna want to get these fine as well but keep in mind that the mushrooms will shrink a lot mushrooms are all about puffing their chest then and you put a little heat under them they shrivel up mushroom masculinity oh my god what am I even saying right now anyway we are going to drop a little bit olive oil into the pan let it heat for a
second and then we're gonna add our onions these are done mushrooms are finished let's toss our veggies in now we just got to get these nice and soft and cooked so off we go with the sauteing okay well this would not be an Aries kitchen without a major audible and I'm calling a major audible right now here's what we're gonna do okay instead of actual oats I've replaced this with oat flour and what that will do is that will make it so we don't even have to use the
food processor which I was planning on using and not looking forward to because that's a whole mess and who wants the food process all these beautiful ingredients like we've already finely chopped everything I feel like that would be a bit overkill right now we're just finishing up this saute on these vegetables they're getting pretty soft while that was cooking I prepared some of the beyond ground beef and added a little bit of barbecue sauce for some flavor so in a second
we're kind of just gonna put all of the ingredients in this bowl and get our hands dirty and sort of just shape the
loaf
that way I don't feel like we need to put anything in the food processor so we're gonna use oat flour as our binder we have bread crumbs as well oh we should add our garlic about now let's add the garlic and once the garlic is done cooking in a couple of minutes we're gonna add the rest of our ingredients and it's great also I have prepared this glaze Ithink is what it's called it's ketchup barbecue sauce balsamic vinegar and oh it's mindful syrup and this is what we're gonna glaze the top of the
loaf
with so save that for later so here we have our mixing bowl we're gonna add our vegetables in addition we are now gonna add some flax meal some parsley salt and pepper some bread crumbs and a little bit of oat flour we're gonna start with a little bit so the tomato paste and a little bit of ketchup again definitely measureeverything very carefully we are going to use our spoon here spatula to get everything a modulus it looks a little bit in need of some flour so we're gonna have some Mauro flour I would say add little by little without flour dude this is smelling really good the beauty of this recipe for me is I have literally no expectations good or bad I don't know what this is gonna be like so if it's even remotely decent come on be happy dude I'm gonna be up be dude also pre-heat your oven
to 400 degrees do it now do it no faster faster doing out looks like it needs a little more flour it's not quite like a dough yet like I think the only purpose of having the food processor in that recipe is literally to make oats and oat flour in which case why don't we just use oat flour then we don't need a food processor dog we don't need it this is looking good again if you're gonna make this at home highly recommend using some beyond ground beef just to add to the meaty
flavor that you're looking for with a
loaf
and if you don't want that then listen I'm not gonna yell at you I'm not gonna force you just go to your room you're in timeout you're grounded go to your room go okay this looks to be like a good consistency I kind of want to taste a little bit oh that's good whoa why is that good that's like so delicious oh my god oh I don't even have thelentil

but boy that is like really tasty I think is gonna be good just add more salt is it time is this too huh I think it'stoo hot to like mold but maybe not this is like pretty damn hot well whatever let's just let's just get our hands dirty y'all so you're gonna shape this into I guess like an oval shape dude I'm not gonna lie this is like really looking the part and it's kind of beautiful dude okay so once you're done admiring this monstrosity we are gonna take our glaze you're gonna take a food brush or a regular paintbrush just maybe try to get the paint off of it first and we
are going to just nice and easy glaze the top of our beautiful

s beyond meat carrots celery onion it is really goodmm-hmm Julia's like such a perfect little like Christmas meal mm-hmm you make it again Christmas Day okay mm-hmm was it hard to make oh it was medium it was like you know I I didn't mess up you have to basically saute the vegetables so they get soft then you combine that with all the sauces spices and oat flour in a bowl with your hands and then you just shape it into a thing but it was asking me to use oats and put it in the food processor I was like no I'm just can use oat flour
and shape with my hands and it worked out yeah I mean so they want you all the vegetables to be like period and yeah I mean I don't find it at all like where you can see the vegetables I think cuz they want it to be like an actual low you know what I mean but this is kind of like rustic and fun rustic and it takes none of the flavor away are you excited oh I'm so happy what's in the grave it is it's ketchup balsamic vinegar barbecue sauce and a little bit of maple syrup
that's like your language isn't it it's a beautiful-looking food it's like it's really nice I was like the little kid that my mom

I was excited because it was like I don't really put ketchup on it I think you've told me so many times that you sounds like your childhood bomb but it tastes really good right but it has such like a dinner feeling yeah this is a really dinner dish right really savory mm-hmm really just like hearty it's not like high likea burger or you know I don't know it's a dish it's not just like a food yeah it's really good sometimes when you're vegan you don't always have like a dish you know it's like some foods mm-hmm and this was really like a meal like this is the kind of thing if you go to a vegan restaurant they would be like here's a it's not like a some kale in a bowl yeah yeah yeah it's um it's a hearty meal it has nice well Merry Christmas I'm so happy Julie okay
