I Bought a Brand New 1975 British Motorcycle(Rare)

Mar 22, 2023
Almost a year ago I found an unopened 1981 Honda

motorcycle

still in the box for sale online and

bought

it in over 8 million people watched me and my team unbox the story and then a few months later we did again with an old Yamaha and because of these videos I got a phone call from a man who claimed to have the Holy Grail of British

motorcycle

s, a

brand

new

1975

Norton Commando 850 still in the box and despite all the haters my counters , my family and my hairdresser have forked out all the money to buy it and now we are going to unpack it one to see if the mice have completely destroyed this thing two to see if we can make it work properly and if all goes well i have a special plan for this bike and we found the best place to unpack it, which is right here at Daytona Bike Week on Airbnb, which is why Airbnb loves me. look at him he is 48 years old he can almost have dinner at four o'clock in the restaurant so that's ok this is what we know england england something england england did well done in england that's what it says several holes have been cut in this box this is going to drop in there wait a sec what do you guys hear that hey hey whats up craig whats going on ok let's go upstairs we need your help i'm here to help this bike has been moving from person to person for the last 48 years and nobody wants to engrave a box on it I said the guy we

bought

it from was like all these people were telling them, man, don't unbox, you're going to ruin the valley, you're going to ruin the value if you know anything about unboxing if we know anything . about anything is that you have to unpack these things, they are being destroyed inside, there is a sign, I don't know, but you can imagine that, like everything on this thing, it is that the mold probably everything on this bike no longer works black color engine that number one other thing i have a wood frame the size of lumber look at this big piece of metal i can only assume something goes up the exhaust pipe and probably bolts to the connecting rod connecting rod smells old feels old smells yes i am eager to cut these straps cut them look at this hopefully this Cut this will cut throw you and gouge out your eye yes 100 when i was a kid i was walking in my backyard and we had like a zipper like a metal clothesline like the metal clothesline type it has like the plastic on the outside and a little bit of a piece of metal hanging off and i walked under it scratched my cornea in the summer i had to wear a bag over my eye for about six weeks like a pirate it hurt i felt that something was in there it was very painful that was very good Sean I did it like twice, oh, I guess I'm not supposed to do it twice.

Would you ever scratch a cornea, yes, you would have gone to Craig, get to work. I'm trying, none of these holes were supposed to be here at some point when people were selling them and they didn't want to remove them. the mess box the originality mess if they started cutting holes they have a hole in the top they have this hole that shows you this what is that bag of stuff in there apparently this is probably supposed to deter rodents no I don't know how, I don't know what that means, they were supposed to open the bag.

More Interesting Facts About,

i bought a brand new 1975 british motorcycle rare...

I don't know all the motorcycles in a box that we have bought. The seller said exactly the same thing. ever bought they all had mice i mean this wont deter anything unless they are eating it so here we can see this thing has norton lockheed it says lockheed brakes is norton where is norton lockheed there's only so much you can find out with the Box and it's time for us to unpack Sleeping Beauty and fin Find out once and for all if the mice and bugs completely destroyed it leaving me with a very expensive but worthless artifact or if it was preserved as we were told.

I can't wait to find out what's in the box that looks really cool. First of all, I just want to clarify that I've been calling it commander half the time, so clearly someone messed up the decal and that should be an ER because I don't make mistakes, so what's that bolt that goes there? it's just holding on to nothing oh look at that bolt that goes right there it goes to a piece of metal and connects to the um to the axle bolt two pounds of mouse repellent yeah look this is a bag of stuff it's like there's another bag of stuff stuff under here like nothing about this when i'm poking around it makes sense it would be on a motorcycle why does it feel like it's soft it's like it's a little soft i've opened up a lot of bikes you know how they and we know the chinese do it and it's horrible we know we've seen it How the Japanese do it I've never seen how the British do it Also this is my first Norton Never owned a Norton before Never Triumph before Can we name this Billy Bob Norton Billy Bob Norton the Thornton I know what what is where is it?
i bought a brand new 1975 british motorcycle rare
Where did you say that thing? Craig put it out again made in England by Norton Triumph oh that's sharp. Here's the thing. I don't know much about this bike. We are Nortons Austin Power Road one or British or women's bikes. or kids or really anything but I know a guy who knows a lot about him. Sean James' voiceover lands now. The first Isle of Man TT and over the decades, Norton have had many ups and downs, but the war really kept them afloat. They made over a hundred thousand motorcycles for the British Army. The Commando was the successor to the

1975

Atlas and Commander MK3. w as the first to have electric start and weighed about 492 pounds and had a top speed of 105 miles per hour look at this look at the roughness of the head casting look which really stands out here as well on the Triple Clamp I mean Harley Davidson has cleaner looking castings on all seven in the '50s yeah our wthe cleaner looking castings than that this wouldn't pass Harley Davidson status as if a kid with an angle grinder took it off and then this. it's all rough that's very uh it's very unique but now with this The Jug the actual cylinder is very smooth now you'd think you know yourself when you bust like an old uh an old hose off a 20 year old bike it's all solid look at this it's actually quite flexible yes I'm no science wizard but I think it's because the fuel was what really hurt them.
Some wrenches and a wire cutter get this out of here. well it's screwed there very smart what people don't know about the

british

is that they are very smart people well at least they were 50 years ago are you spilling secrets about the

british

? I like this knife, yes it's a good knife I will make. it's my own right hand four speed rh4 means right hand four speed we used this 75 so somewhere is when things got standardized I thought it was late 70's or early 80's so luckily we've had this problem before we couldn't find the key you saw the keys look at this look up that's the key it's heading into the lighthouse this key is right there the most preserved part of the key was the piece that was to hold from the front down so it was inside of the thing this part is all little wilmont wilmont brood i guess that's the uh the person that made it made in england oh here it's made in england in another language it's pronounced wilmont breeden breeden um oh look look there are two sets of keys oh well , there's already one in the ignition, remember last time we couldn't find a set of keys, if moisture got in here, got in the tank, some leak or whatever, this whole tank could go bankrupt Now the way this tank sits is perfectly unusual. tank the tank with no flaws is probably worth five thousand bucks i think i have no real reason to say that but i'm just making things up let's see what's in the tank chrome looks amazing awesome check this out craig this is very interesting paint faded ok, very interesting and right there is what you want to see is a tank that looks very, very good after the bikes are, I don't know, 20 30 years old and they've been sitting around for a while. while the biggest of the biggest problems is the tank is all rusty because it's got fuel in there water got in there whatever will rust the tanks huh this looks like something this looks great things are looking up to Craig so when I first looked in the box I saw this this this bar right here and I was like oh it looks kind of ugly but it's not actually part of the bike not just the packaging oh this part here would be ugly its the same diameter as the handlebars could have been the same tube just before it was chromed. and that's what they use to solder in here to connect to the frame so this thing will drop down it's going to mess this up but it's not going to mess anything else up I don't know I really don't know it's very interesting how they packaged all these things together it has a center mall carburetors a mall a mall a mall that boot is literally the most flexible boot I've ever felt in my life with my toe they put a treasure map inside is this worth anything can we? sell this as a 1975 North 850 Commando it smells it smells old it doesn't smell like anything it can't smell it ok guys when you smell it you get it like i get in your nose if you ever do it without hurting it ok why could we get the funds out of that job?
I don't want to practice ice I'm getting pretty good at this he's pretty good oh bragging about you Craig ok Goosey nah we're already too deep into it now let's put everything back together it's still on the rollers we can just push it right into the trailer ok ok what's keeping it from falling off right now, the bike, i'm not going to lie, these are 50 year old zip ties, zip ties haven't evolved in 50 years, oh okay there's still a strap down there holding on the money closer yeah ok first first of all everyone always tells us because they are paying good money they are selling their dollars for good money come on tell me it ain't a mouth look at craig what we got ? what parts eat craig just the important t bits here we go Dan ooh this is mouses there it is this is a mouse's dream the mouse is Den you're just opening look at that reaching look how good it looks that's cool I bet first of all someone's going to step on this and it's going to be me I bet you a

brand

new unopened Norton 850 Commando and I think this was the first year or this is the first year electric start it's a big manual problem worth hundreds of thousands of dollars thirty eight thousand dollars on eBay and it was wrecked one of these one of these bikers is going to find the mouse i'm going to see i'm going to look right into their stupid little eyes and right into their mouse face dumb mouse face okay that's something right there what is this this is so heavy but so smooth there's a few more things ok oh the rawness so raw so raw but so elegant like the brits people say you can't open your ruin and ruin the value these things sitting here covered up ba where you can't see what's going on ng in there that's what's ruining them unless you unless you bought the whole new thing and sealed the whole thing shrink sealed you know vacuum sealed and then the it kept like in a bubble like suspended nothing could ever get to it so we're saving this bike by taking it out and then wrecking it on the road look at this solid rotor this is a thing so before they knew they had to cut little holes in here to let it breathe some get the air too check this out we still use solid rotors on the dirt bike and race really muddy yeah yeah easier with the rusty pads no maybe that will come off unless you take it off i dont know stops, so we are saving this motorcycle.
I don't want to see some comment on there criticizing us and saying you guys are monsters this bike may actually have never seen the light of day how crazy is it to think of this it's like a baby that stayed in its mother's womb for 48 years wow and like a grown man now coming out this is so movie with a blast of Rand and Frazier from the past where he spent his whole life living like in a bunker and then he comes out and like everyone you know what I'm talking about and that Chrome shines good yeah, here we go.
I hate having body panels and other things off the bike. The most dangerous place for any type of body panel. fairing. The fender or tank is off the bike. it turned a bit Yeah so I decided it would be a good idea to put the bike on the center stand so we can mount the front wheel but it turned out to be harder than I thought and just as I predicted Craig was the one who hit the nail on the head but luckily no foot was punctured we also found the bike had a dry sump oil system like the old Harleys and found some papers the mice didn't eat we finally put the front wheel on which gets us one step closer to seeing if this bike starts what's this right here? we don't know how to ride motorcycles ok the front wheels are on but the brake isn't so we want to take it out of the box yeah let's go this thing out of the box where is that hammer? don't throw it at them it's not working it's not right this is good look at this joke you like that you like that there's something we forgot to tell them and thenwe bought this we've had this for a couple months we didn't pick it up yet we wanted to order some parts we wanted to make sure we were ready to put it all together when we were going to put it together and craig talked to a guy who knows a lot about this stuff and in fact i have seen some pictures of a lot of these stored in england as new in the box looks like our box and craig found out there were a lot of them stored them that way because they had because they had bad connecting rods right craig yes they had a Bad crankshaft and if the crankshaft connecting rod does, some major internal component of the bottom end engine, that would be why this thing stayed in the Box for so long because the question is why was it in the Box?
It was wrong? he cursed for which maybe it wasn't who knows we just don't know but that would explain why this one was still in the box and probably should never have been sold he said if that's the case if it's the one with the bad crankshaft then you start it, you're done, you destroyed the engine, but he told us how we can solve it, you said you started, you see what happens, that's not what we do, you know, I want to see if it works. to turn on, but besides that, the big question is and we were going to see if it turns on on top of that, although the big question is if this thing is going to blow up, is this the bad one or is this? the good ones is this the last good 850 Commando I don't think I ever rode the bike that old big even our Harley ain't that big I don't know how much they had in cubic inches so we put on the handlebars and finally got the bike off the box and got it to the mainland and then we had our first problem that we couldn't get it. the bike got disabled but we'll get to that later then we ran into our next issue which was the brake fluid looks like the underwater tomb of a pirate ship but we'll also have to deal with that later now out of curiosity.
I tracked down that in 1975 the Spike New would have sold for $2,400 and now it's worth much more than that, but that's the best way to spend your money, so I ran the numbers and if I were to invest that same $2,400 in the S P 500 it would be worth 134 000 today and i didn't pay anything like that so i'm going to get some no it's a little piece of rubber that covers there it's supposed to cover there it doesn't anymore it's been its whole life folded over but with a little lock on the hub so nobody steals your bike even in the 70's people were s stealing people's bikes is this for the seat looks like it's there we go oh no it's not yet oh there's the time that's the tray for your drugs look good talk here's that silly bag tool kits for Norton's like this hundreds of thousands of dollars danco find us we'll sell it so okay that just fits fit and Bam that's how that is done. the potential engine the engine problem we have to figure out how to unlock the rear tire but if moisture got into the engine from I don't know how maybe the guy didn't fire the spark plug came out with the exhaust valve I know it might show up in the box probably it's open it's coming in the exhaust that lives there and you know the engine might be locked up that means we're not riding this thing it's not going to start so let's see if huh come on Hit the engine it's locked tight though no is closed. ah there you go yeah maybe we should lube the cylinders a bit probably wouldn't hurt it here you go Craig there it is and it's 3 8.
You know what's funny? Everyone complains that we are the only ones or one of the only ones. countries that don't use metric but all ratchets are quarter inch 3 8 and a half inch we invented all that stuff brake pads don't need brakes that's right sean's feet work perfectly fine yeah but true though i actually need brakes i don't want to lose them oh a sticker mission so this is what we set up a bit of mouse activity there's also a silly thing. I don't know what ash looks like because at this point we don't know if it has that catastrophic engine problem the rear brakes locked the front brakes locked the label is clean the best thing we found out is that we have the engine shut off its not locked but I It's still pretty hard oh it might be in gear but if it wasn't in gear the tar would have been moving that just gets a little bit soggy it's getting soggy so when it comes on it's going to be puffing with white smoke yeah yeah brakes . we can just pull everything and replace everything what do we do to get this wheel to move pull caliper careful broth ok i only use norton tools norton triumph tools on my norton triumph motorcycle so i freed up the rear wheel by removing that brake caliper upset and then i asked craig does this oil smell like old man's closet even though we're in florida this is a road bike if it wasn't a road bike it was an off road bike we could take it off road we wouldn't know where go but we saw that with the Onyx off road app we can jump into the app we can look at different places we can see who owns what and where it's legal to drive and then what kind of tags you need and how big the vehicle is or we can even see If our full-size ze Sprinter van is big enough to go that route. way down you can try it free for a week or if you want to get it use beards as a code to get 20 off but i would say try it for a week and see if you like it and then i'll go. from there we spent the next hour trying to inspect the oil pan to see if we could tell if this was one of the faulty engines the Triumph man warned us about, apparently we're looking for some sort of D on some component in there up that's the bottom of the piss this right here is the wrist pin head of wrist pin head of wrist pin the small end of the connecting rod is right here in the middle i think i'm going to say i wish i had one of those fancy I caught a glimpse of the classic Greg, you were beating the fancy and now you wish you had a fancy and all.
Putting together a motorcycle reminds me of one of my favorite Bob versus Luke 16 10. one that was faithful and very little is also faithful and very much and one that is dishonest and very little is also dishonest in a lot I like to ride my claws backwards what makes it easier yeah so when someone was in the comments typing idiot that's upside down and then oh well never mind space backspace backspace you stupid man yeah hey hey like a win , we're in a gear neutral first that's a win that's a win that's a big win a lot of people are probably wondering sean it's an unusual bike you keep finding this stuff in boxes how much did you pay for it we paid 17k for this 850 75 Norton Commander this tank is clean gearbox seems to work I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out now.
I know that sounds like a lot of money, but ultimately it comes down to what the actual value is. A good place to calculate what the value is. recently 75 Commando or that I don't have like 5,000 miles 29,000 dollars 18,500 dollars also has a very interesting story behind it because it is in a box and we have to unpack it so I hope you know what I call that investment I hope it pays off and this thing works don't look at that Skyline guys whatever the skyline like that in pennsylvania the sun just stopped setting in pennsylvania that looks good that seems to make it looks like it has a nice flow but the problem is the front set of pieces to me it's trying to melt down here and that doesn't make any sense is that definitely the right side yeah maybe you're right Dan crying I wonder if these lights will come on Dan oh that's a big deal look in that headlight oh my god , right here in my face, I got you ripped, the last guy to put one of these together was in 1975.
I'm not freaking out, why is it wet? That? Cause we're in Florida and everything's wet in Florida so it's not wet everything's wet in Florida what are we talking about this wasn't wet before now it's all wet probably sweat and Craig's barely sweaty but this is going to shine shine sparkle sparkle sparkle glug turpentine that's a good fuel cap that cool fuel cap are we ready to fuel it? yeah tell me I'm ready to fuel it fuel it and see what happens there yes there it goes it's Michael Buble and it's not no leaks that's a big sign unique to this bike I think it was like the first one with electric start. kickstart so that's where it starts look how many kicks it takes but i don't i can't do crocs alright i won't do crocs but but it's florida i'm not gonna put my jeans on i'm gonna put a boot on a boot so let's see how many kicks we can get to t he turns on the key and turns on the headlights i think it's the head and the pilot i don't really know a pilot is a guy who flies a plane ahead it's the bathroom oh where's the choke?
Is it bluetooth? How many kicks do I guess three three dude? this thing is 48 years old overseas ok wait wait the concert is over if it looks like i'm not as excited as i should have been after hearing this bike turn on for the first time after two kicks in 48 years it's because this is a big hoax because i heard something from outside while i was inside putting my boot on and this is what was caught on camera jeans on i'm going to put a boot on a boot just press the button and see if it goes off it's very tempting i didn't see anything very often.
I can't believe how easy that thing turned on, it turned on so easy. It was the easiest to boot. I deal what is it let's see if the clutch is working the rear tire is finished it's the first time this bike has run in 48 years finally something around here that is older than me protect the oil again to get it working it has oil it didn't explode no blew out still no air in the tires and no brakes other than us pretty fit so back to the bike and beard shop to try and sort out the brake issue we just need a break from work to test it out and cant wait to test drive this bike and after a few hours craig got the rear brakes to work and he was almost ready for his debut now you know i obviously cant take him for his first maiden ride looking like this so theres only one thing to do and then i was ready to assemble my first Norton Commando and just to clarify that it's not Commander it's Commando and hopefully it won't blow up right the first time I put this thing on going for a walk.
The first time this bike has moved under its own power in 48 years, assuming it was factory tested, whoops, after the initial novelty of riding a brand new 48 year old bike wore itself out. I started noticing that it wasn't working right. We ride it the better it will feel and let's confirm the front brakes don't work but let's make sure the rear brakes work good that's good oh it died on me from all the other bikes and I unboxed them. They all cleared up pretty quickly. After riding it, I noticed that the right cylinder fuel bleeder valve was closed, so I turned it back on after a few minutes.
It has a unique feel and that big 850cc engine has a great Rumble, it's nothing like modern bikes I've written about and once again I feel connected to the riders of the past, not in some weird, mystical way , but in a way that makes more sense when an older guy walks up to me when I'm on my bike and lights up when he tells me about a new bike he bought in the 1970s. That's the exact same feeling I get when I steal a motorcycle in Grand Theft Auto 5. Thanks ok so there's a reason and aside from the fact that it's not running right we didn't drive this home from Florida the reason is I'm trying to keep the miles down.
I have to plan. this bike and that plan is my man Jay Leno has a bike that I want he has a Honda Rune that I want to trade with him Jay you want to trade and this new 1975 North Commando for you I think a 2004 Honda Rune caught my eye in this email right here let's clear this up let's make this happen we're trying to make this work better you guys next time you know i was watching the guys at uh beards and bikes it's a srk Cycles they know a lot about this and I saw a couple of shows that they did, you should watch them, they know what they do.
