I Bought a $9 1TB SD Card and Got Even Less Than I Expected

Feb 27, 2020
This is a one terabyte micro SD

card

that I found on a website called Jim calm and in case you don't realize, this is clearly a scam. One terabyte SD

card

s, especially for cameras like mine, cost over one hundred and two hundred and three hundred dollars. for a decent one, especially I'm going to do 4k footage and for nine dollars, there's no way this can exist, so first nine dollars is pretty much what we're looking at here and just to look around, let's look at the description here, just a glance. In this, it's going to be a very interesting USB 3.0 transmission speed that would generally be like class 10, which is 10 megabytes per second.

All that capacity. This will all look very interesting. Although I'm really impressed with just a few of the things advertised here, like the working voltage, okay, the read/write speed is 80 megabytes per second, so keep that in mind when we review and start testing the speed Really, according to this, it says it's class 10 high strength, Sam. Diskin, but it's actually only 80 megabytes per se. I'm really interested to see what we actually get. Oh, and by the way, in case you don't know if this turns out to be a scam, we ended up removing it from the website.

More Interesting Facts About,

i bought a 9 1tb sd card and got even less than i expected...

I've teamed up with Jim a little bit and basically since I finished Christmas, this video is very difficult to do, some of the things are very difficult to do, but basically when everyone comes back to something, if I post a video, it turns out be a scam. it actually ends up being removed from the entire website, so that's another good thing we're doing because a lot of people comment that they wonder why we give money to scammers. Actually, we are helping to clean them up at least in this. channel some of the websites on the internet, so you should check out and order this, get this in the mail and see what actually shows up.

This is a little SD card and it looks like it comes in this kind of burrito and I mean. The packaging is an indication of what we are getting. I think they already spent like $2 of the nine dollars that we spent on this just on the packaging and we have a little ziploc bag, a good quality positive ziplock bag, and here's the micro SD Card, so what we

expected

. I was actually working with one of these with my 3D printer. I'm rearranging my room so it's obviously a lot smaller than the normal SD card, too if you're familiar with it.

What I will notice is that there is a lack of branding on this, so you should be able to see it in the bonus material, but there is a lack of any branding on this, which is generally a bad sign, there is also some sort of series. number on the back, as well as 1024 gigabytes on the front. I would definitely say this is not it anyway. I would be willing to say that this is not a terabyte. I would also say that most SD cards would advertise or put a terabyte on a terabyte. the front instead of putting it in gigabytes, that's another thing I noticed.
I definitely think it's pretty strange, but for the most part there are some serial numbers on the back that I want to quickly Google and see what they actually end up with. up, which means I actually wasn't quite sure what I was expecting fines down below absolutely nothing it's been a while since I googled something actually no it hasn't been the last graphics card video we did was that one, but it's been a while since I Googled something and literally Google says I have no idea what you're talking about so the serial number here doesn't exist it's made out of thin air so it will definitely be interesting when we try see what it is.
Actually, the first thing I want to do is throw this into a computer and see how much it actually says it has in RAW storage and then we'll try to load my entire meme collection using PC master-race meme. The collection on this little SD card is a couple of terabytes, so definitely be sure to see how well it holds up. You know, for this test, this little benchmark that we're going to do today, you want to make sure you have a pair. things you need to have a good solid storage device to try and store your entire meme collection so for me this terabyte should be good it will probably only cover about 1/8 or

even

if maybe a 6 of my entire collection of memes I have. we have stored, but for the most part we are going to load a good portion of our meme collection into this little SD cart and see how much is actually retained, of course we don't want to lose any of our precious memes, but for the most part I have the feeling like we really won't have any left, we might not

even

get a gigabyte of memes and if I don't stop dropping this too, we're going to plug it real quick. look what we've got, so here's our trusty little SD card combo.
The first thing I'll do, of course, is just put this in and we'll see what we end up with. I already have a little tas or file explorer command to go and there it is, then it says 99 gigabytes, as we would expect a big surprise. I will say that first I want to point out an interesting fact: it has the full terabytes worth of storage, which means that there is absolutely no space for requests or for file indexing on the drive, so, for example, my disk out of 512 gigs, I'm guessing the black Western Digital drive only has about 400 actually usable 64 gigabytes, which means the rest is used to store the file locations on the disk, so you know where to read from them, so I'm basically going to take all my raw images from my camera.
I start throwing them out basically, what we'll do is use them as a kind of indicator. I have some. gigabyte files which are basically just going to take them and see how many of those gigabyte files we can accumulate to get a rough estimate of how much is actually retained, obviously some files you'll be able to access, which probably means it's actually readable storage and accessible, so it was stored correctly, but they also give me those files that are completely corrupt and it says they don't exist or something and then we'll use that as a kind of indicator to guess. how much of that actual storage is retained, I guess like I said, maybe around 8 gigabytes 16 gigabytes 4 gigabytes.
I would be surprised if the gigabytes on this are a much lower cost scam or this actually costs a very small amount, so it will definitely be interesting to see, so let me read all of this, done, set up, we'll get started. I'll start adding some files, some indicator files and then we'll go from there, so I actually selected a video of me working. on my Cyber Truck graphics card and I selected that we're actually going to throw this, start throwing this to this poor little SD card and then we're going to check and see how it works, so let's get started, okay?
I'm going to put that in there, wait for it to copy, we have an amazing 20 megabytes per second speed. In fact, I'm quite impressed. I was expecting something much lower, especially with the I don't know nine dollar SD card, but come on. just get this wait for it to finish writing and then we'll go from there as you can see I think we can access the file which means it's not even that gigabyte that means the literal total storage file is not even a gigabyte of storage so as you can see we have about 1 gigabyte of storage and it doesn't even end with a gigabyte so let's find out what level and cost the scam is because this file is slightly more than a gigabyte it's very interesting to see how much It costs a one gigabyte SD card with the additional work of you know, 20 megabytes looks like 1510 megabytes per second, its read/write speeds, the cost of shipping all that, so let's calculate that so it shows. like on the internet, with the highest profit margins on the internet, you're looking at around $5 for the SD card now.
I don't think they really paid $5.00. I think they probably had something like some way to get a wholesale lot of them probably paid $3 or something each. I'd be willing to bet that's where the $3 earned on your $9 purchase went, but for me, take it a step further and we'll see what we can calculate as well. Based on the reviews and things on the website, how much do they actually keep because they don't want to have to spend a ton of money to ship it to you and then you immediately say, oh yeah, that's a scam and then they have to send that back. money, they want to make you think it works for long enough.
Now this is actually a very poorly organized scam because not only have they done something where you don't even have a gigabyte of storage. this is 20 19 almost 20 20 20 20 it's like in a week it's literally not going to make sense if you plug it into your computer and the first thing you do is try to download a video game and it doesn't even work on the SD card which isn't really the margin of profit you are looking for now in the ideal world. If you were going to do this scam, at least make it harder, which I probably shouldn't say this because well, you're the people watching. this and the scammers probably don't want to watch these videos because they get arrested so speaking of that you probably have like 32 gigabytes of actual storage on this SD card and that way when people went and uploaded their games they have that worth of 32 gigabytes so that at least they have a little buffer between the time they get the SD card, they have their games, things that work and then all of a sudden it doesn't work at the end of those 32 gigabytes that they have.
I have to have some reserve time to wait for the return period now. If someone really is a media user like me, for example. I have some GoPros that use these micro SD cards. I pass through a tear. It would be a terabyte. probably over the course of a month and now obviously it would be very difficult if the return period was maybe only a month and that person had to go through about half of that to a quarter or an eighth of that total storage. If they really did this as a $50 SD card for a terabyte, they could really put about 128 gigabytes of actual storage on this SD card and in that time it would be very, very, very difficult for people to actually determine the raw storage on she.
That being said, let's figure out how much they actually made based on the review shipping costs, all of that to figure out how much they kept on that nine dollars, so you know, I was thinking about this, it actually says at least on this one. the one I

bought

, 124, means megabytes, kilobytes, gigabytes because obviously we experience the amount of about a gigabyte, but when we look at the SD card, it has the gigabyte logo on ours, not to mention it's not Samsung. it's not heavy duty, so this is very interesting to see, very interesting, as not only is our SD card very blank, it looks like it has a layer of paint on top, trying to prevent us from actually seeing what the original was. .
It is very interesting to note the fact that there are no reviews here because I would like to discover and inform you about scams before they become a problem. Actually, interestingly enough, it's nine dollars, which I think is a Tizen version. a megabyte, they actually have gigabytes here and that's what I understood, so the last thing I want to do in today's video is go through a run crystal mark on the disk to get the actual raw speeds. This is a great test to see what the sharps are, this is sharp. I can't talk today, the sustained speeds are on the disk.
Now this will be really influential. I can't really speak to and how we determine what the actual raw speed is to determine a matching drive, so this will be it. It's interesting to see what they've actually put into the ripoff disc, so I'll run this test in its entirety. I'm going to run the full test as well in its entirety to review and see just my check. just to make sure what disk this is, it's F, so let's run it, ootek doesn't even show up. There we go, so we'll run this little test on the entire drive to see what is actually retained.
I'll be interested to see what is retained, as we've already done some testing and determined that the fact is that the drive itself doesn't even extract any information correctly. I'd be interested to see what comes of this. because you will definitely be able to write a lot of things, but I would be surprised if the reading fails completely. I would be very surprised, it's actually already done, guess what, I can't believe it and what does it say, big surprise. here we have about 11 megabytes per second read and about 12 right, right, you think, right, you think it's going well and then it goes even lower and yeah, it just can't be written anymore.
I was totally expecting this to happen. So not only that, but the bigger stripes and stuff just aren't happening, so it's been very interesting. I'm also curious to do a quick breakdown of the total cost we have here, so really quick costs, what are we looking for? First of all, we love the low cost of the SD card, it's probably around 4 to 3 dollars based on what we found online, so aGigabyte SD card with these speeds costs around 4 dollars then. We have the shipping cost and to send a small envelope from, I guess, China to where I live on the east coast, so probably around $1 to $2, since it wasn't a large package, the next thing we have is the cost of the research and development that was probably baby $1 maybe if you have these pennies even

less

probably just because of the mass they probably produced and obviously in the advertising and the whole deal with rebates and stuff you probably pay about a dollar , so they may have made what that calculates, so let's just say it's three, two, and two, so that really leaves them with $7, so really that's thinking about a $2 profit margin with this now how they could change this a little bit, of course, is advertise, you know, with a little bit higher price and of course have a little bit more storage in there, so you would have to cut back a little bit, but you would get a lot

less

refunds or returns in the time period and then you could also charge a higher price, I think at $9 it was clearly obvious that it was a scam, now I'm not trying to give constructive advice but you should also pay attention, tell them your mentality , help them, you know, guess what's going on to figure out what the mindset is that they have because I like doing this research and research videos, it's something interesting to check out and really see what they're doing and how they're making money off of this and, obviously, I think for this SD card it just sounds. like maybe 15 were sold, I don't think it was much profit for them and it probably took them more time to review it and do all the work of posting it for them to take it down and review it as well. and it ends in a really disappointing way, so in the long run, are these scams profitable?
I definitely think the SD cards have been overused so I don't think they should be that big of a problem except for the For the most part I would say these scams, like I said, are pretty well known so keep an eye out if you see something that seems too good to be true, then it probably is. I mean, I was very interested in observing. I make all kinds of these. videos, if you are interested, scams, graphics cards, power supplies, we have some phones, a lot of crazy things and yes, I think I was watching a lot, have a wonderful day.
