I Bought a $9 1TB SD Card and Got Even Less Than I Expected
Feb 27, 2020This is a terabyte micro SD
card
I found on a website called Jim calm and in case you didn't realize this is clearly a scam. Terabyte SDcard
s, especially for cameras like mine, cost upwards of $12300. for a decent one especially going to do 4k footage and for it being nine bucks there's no way this couldeven
exist so first nine bucks is pretty much what we're looking at here and just to look let's look at the description here just a look at this it's going to be very interesting USB 3.0 transmission rate which would normally be like class 10 which is 10 megabytes per second all that capacity stuff all these things will look very interesting although I'm really impressed on just a few of the things they advertise here like their working voltage ok the read/write speed is 80 megabytes per second so keep that in mind when we go through it and start testing the speed real that is according to this, it says it's class 10 high-endurance Sam Diskin, but it's really only 80 megabytes per se.I'm really interested to see what we get, by the way, in case you don't know if this turns out to be a scam, we actually ended up deleting. from the website. I've done a little partnership with Jim and basically since I just broke Christmas time this video is very hard to do but basically when everyone comes back to something if I post a video that turns out to appear to be a scam it's actually over being removed from the entire website so that's another good thing we're doing because a lot of people are commenting saying why we're giving money to scammers well actually we're helping to clean them up. at least in this channel of some of the websites on the internet so you should go through and order this get this in the mail and see what actually shows up this is a little sd card and it looks like it came in this burrito type of thing and I mean the packaging is any indication of what we're getting I think they've already spent like $2 of this nine bucks that we spent on this just on the packaging and we have such a positive little ziploc bag good quality ziplock bag and here there's the micro sd card so what we were hoping for, i was actually just working with one of these with my 3d printer back here.
I'm rearranging my room so it's obviously a lot smaller than the normal SD card also if you're familiar with the one thing I'll notice though there's a lack of branding on this so you should be able to see this in the footage , but it's missing any markings on this which is usually a pretty bad sign there's also some kind of serial number on the back as well as 1024 gigabytes on the front I'm definitely saying this isn't it anyway I'd be willing to say that this is not a terabyte I would also say that most SD cards would advertise or put a terabyte a terabyte on the front instead of putting it in gigabytes that's just another thing I didn't realize that I definitely think that's pretty weird, but for the most part there are some serial numbers on the back that i want to just google real quick and see what they actually end up meaning i wasn't really very sure what i
expected
. fines background absolutely nothing it's been a while since i googled anything not really it doesn't have the last graphics card video we did was that but it's been a while since i googled anything and literally google says no I have no idea what you're talking about so the serial number here doesn't exist it's made out of nothing so it'll definitely be interesting when we try to see what this actually is so the first thing I want to do is launch this on a computer and see how much it actually says it has on RAW storage and then we're going to try and load my entire PC meme collection master-race meme collection onto this little SD card it's a couple terabytes so definitely make sure that we see how well this holds up now you know for this test this little benchmark we're going to do today you need to make sure you have a couple things you need to have a good storage device just gone to test and store his entire meme collection so for me this terabyte should be good probably only covers about 1/8 oreven
if maybe a 6 of my entire meme collection that I have stored but in for the most part, let's know, upload a whole good chunk of our meme collection to this. little SD cart and see how much of it actually gets retained of course we don't want to lose any of our precious memes but for the most part I have a feeling we really won't have any left that we couldn't even get gigabytes worth of memes and if I don't stop dropping this as well we're going to plug this in quick to see what we got so here's our little trusty sd card combo the first thing I'll do is of course just put this in we'll see what we end up with I actually have a little tas command or file explorer already to go and there it is so it says 99 gigabytes like we're expecting a big surprise there it's going to say I want to point out an interesting fact first this has the full terabyte worth of storage, that means there is absolutely no space for the drive file request or indexing, so for example my black 512 gig drive I guess, Weste rn Digital only has about 400 to 64 gigabytes really usable, which means the rest is used to store the file locations on disk so it knows where to read them, so basically I'll take all my raw images from my camera.I'll just start throwing them away. Basically, what we will do is use it as an indicator. having some gigabyte files that will basically just take them and see how many of those gigabyte files we can stack to get a rough estimate of how much is actually retained obviously some files that you'll be able to access which probably means that's real Fully readable and accessible storage, so it was successfully archived, but then they also give me those files that are completely corrupted, it says they don't exist or something, and then we'll use that as a kind of indicator to guess how much. of that actual storage is retained I guess as I said maybe around 8 gigabytes 16 gigabytes 4 gigabytes I'd be surprised before gigabytes on this is it a much lower cost scam or this actually costs a very small amount so It would definitely be interesting to watch so let me get everything ready to read configure we'll get started I'll start adding some files some flag files and then we'll go from there so I've curated a video of me working on my cyber truck graphics card and I selected that we're actually going to launch this beginning by throwing this on this poor little SD card and then we're going to review and see how it works, so we're going to launch them, okay?
I'm going to put that in there wait for it to copy we have surp increasing 20 megabytes per second speed. In fact, I'm quite impressed. I was expecting something much lower, especially with the I don't know nine dollar SD card, but we're going to get this thing. Wait for it to finish typing and then. We'll start from there, so as you can see, I think we can access the file, which means it's not even that gigabyte. Does that mean the literal total storage file isn't worth a gigabyte of storage? I have about 1 gigabyte of storage and it doesn't even end up with a gigabyte so let's find out what level and cost is the scam because this file is a little over a gigabyte so it's interesting to see how much a gigabyte costs.
The cost of the SD card with the added work of knowing that 20 megabytes looks like 1510 megabytes per second that's read/write speeds the cost of sending all of that so let's calculate that to make it look like the internet with the margins of highest earnings on the internet. ' I'm looking at about $5 for the SD card right now. I don't think they actually paid $5.00. I think they probably had some semblance of some way to get a bunch of them. They probably paid $3 or something each. I'd be willing to bet that's where the $3 on your $9 purchase went, but for me, take it a step further, we're also going to see that we can calculate based on reviews and other things on the website how much that is . they actually stay because they don't want to have to spend a ton of money to send it to you and then immediately you're like oh yeah that's a scam and then they have to pay that money back that they want to do to you i think it works for long enough now it's actually a very poorly organized scam because not only have they done something where you don't even have a gigabyte of storage this is 20 19 almost 20 20 20 20 it's like in a week there's literally going to be no point if they plug it into their computer and the first thing they do it's trying to download a video game and it doesn't even work on the sd card that's not really the markup you're looking for now in ideal world if you were going to do this scam at least make it harder than i probably shouldn't say this because well y'all are the people watching this and the scammers probably don't want to watch these videos because they get arrested so speaking of which they probably have like a 32 gigabyte bit. from the actual store store on this SD card and that way when people went and uploaded their games they would have that 32 gigabytes worth so they would at least have a little buffer between when they get the SD card and have your games stuff that works and then all of a sudden it doesn't work at the end of that 32 gigabytes you have to have a little bit of buffer time to wait for the return period now if someone is really into a media user like me for example , I have some GoPros that use these micro SD cards I go through a tear I would go through a terabyte probably over the course of a month and now obviously it would be very difficult if the payback period was maybe just a month and that person would have to go through for about half that to a quarter to an eighth of that total storage if they really did this like a $50 for a terabyte SD card they could really put about 128 gigabytes of actual storage on it ta sd card and in that time it would be very very very hard for people to really determine the raw storage on it so with that being said let's calculate how much they actually made based on the costs of shipping the reviews all of that to figure out how much of that nine bucks was actually kept so you know I was just thinking about this, it actually says at least on this one, the one that I
bought
, that 124 means megabytes, kilobytes, gigabytes because obviously we experience the amount of about a gigabyte , but when you look at the sd card it has the gigabyte logo on ours not to mention it's not samsung it's not high endurance so it's quite interesting to see this very very interesting so not just our SD card is very blank it looks like it has a I would consider painting the top trying to prevent us from actually seeing what the original was.It was very interesting. Please be aware of the fact that there are no reviews here, that's because I'd like to find out and let you know about scams. before they become a problem weirdly this is nine bucks what I think is a version of Tizen like megabytes they actually have gigabytes here and that's what I got so the last thing I want to do in the video Today's is actually going through a run glass mark on the drive itself to get the actual raw speeds this is a great test to see what holds this is sustained I can't speak today the sustained speeds are on the drive now this will be very influential I really can't speak and how we determine what the actual raw speed is to determine a matched drive so it will be interesting to see what value they have actually put on the rogue drive so I'm going to run this test on the full I'm going to run the full test as well in its entirety to review it and see just my check to make sure which drive this is this is F so let's run it doesn't even show up ootek if here we go, so I'm going to run this little test on the entire drive to see what's actually being retained.
I'll be interested to see what's retained since we've already done some testing and determined that the fact is that the drive itself isn't even pulling any information correctly I'd be interested to see what it comes up with because it'll definitely be able to write a lot of stuff but i'd be surprised if the read failed completely i'd be really surprised it's actually done guess what i can't believe it and what does it say big surprise here we have about 11 megabytes per second reading and about 12 ok ok you think ok , you think it's going well and then it goes down even more and yeah he can't type anymore, I was totally looking forward to this. to happen, so not only that, but the bigger swaths and stuff just aren't happening, so it's been very interesting.
I'm also curious to do a quick breakdown of the total cost that we have here, so the really quick costs are First of all,we've got to love the low cost of the SD card, it's probably around 4-3 bucks based on what we found online, so a gigabyte SD card with these speeds is around 4 bucks. below we got the cost of shipping and shipping a small envelope from I guess China to where I live on the east coast so probably around $1-$2 as it wasn't a large package below we have the cost of the research and development which was probably baby $1 maybe if you have these pennies even
less
probably just because of the mass that they probably produced and obviously in the advertising and the whole deal of refunds and stuff they probably pay about a dollar so that they could have gotten what that calculates so let's just say it's three two two so that really leaves them with $7 so really that's think $2 markup on this now how they could change this up a bit of course is to advertise it with a bit higher price and of course have a bit more storage in there so you would have to cut back a bit but you would get a lotless
refunds or returns in the time period and could charge a higher price as well I think at $9 it was clearly obvious it was a scam now I'm not trying to give constructive advice but they should also pay attention and tell them their way of thinking help them , you know, guess what's going on to find out what the mindset that they're in scholarship use I like to do this research and research videos this kind of cool stuff to go through and really see what they're doing and how they're making money with this and obviously i think for this sd card it sounds like they only sold 15. i don't think it was a huge profit for them and it probably takes more time for them to review and do all the work of posting it only to have it removed and also review it and end up really disappointing. it's over so in the long run these scams are profitable some are some I definitely think SD cards have been heavily overused so I don't think they need to be that big of an issue but for the most part I would say these Scams, like I said, are pretty well known so be on the lookout if you see something that seems too good to be true then it probably is. con graphics cards power supply is we have a few phones a lot of crazy stuff and yeah i think i was looking a lot have a wonderful day.If you have any copyright issue, please Contact
