Tip number one is pick a niche you won't get sick of, obviously, but I also wanted to say pick a niche and stick with it, and I like to explain that. this like an upside down triangle method like you're looking at a triangle and start ng down here before expanding to anything else stick with that first no one cares about you at first like you have to focus on the reader no one cares your makeup routine matters, nobody cares about your gym bag or something, so you have to pick one thing and stick to it and then as your readers get to know you they will be more interested in these other aspects of your life but first you have to choose one thing and stick to it it's very tempting you can get bored That's why I'm saying choose something you won't get tired of me.

More Interesting Facts About,

I've always loved food and creating recipes so I knew I could do that for a couple of years before I felt like I might burn out so yeah I would say niche pick one thing and then you can branch out to the rest so for me , now that I've been doing this because I've had my instagram for now three years and my website for three years, um, I'm starting to like doing things like this where I have a youtube channel and other things that I can spend my

time

but first it was strictly recipes recipes recipes recipes you have to constantly share value and think about the reader when you're writing because it's really hard but literally no one cares about you they just care about them and what they can get out of the content you're serving so that offers value, choose a niche, and focus on your reader to get started.

Tip number two will be to treat it like a business from the start, this might conflict with some things you've heard before. I remember when I first started I heard tons of interviews and great

blogger

s were like you know I never got to the angle of wanting to make money because they couldn't make money ok it's 2020 now it's about to be

2021

we know

blogging

is a very hard job lucrative or it can be um some ways you can treat it like a business early on is to get your LLC it's like 50 bucks maybe 100 I can't even remember I did a long

time

ago I think you can do it on super legalzoom simple get a self hosted website just that

makes

it look more professional when you don't have a blog point or something after your website get a professional looking website you can go on etsy and find them take courses so if you pay money you'll pay attention that's how I see it so invest in your in your you know high quality as much as you can so treating it like a business from the start is going to set you up poised for success because otherwise against laugh you're just going to be like oh it's a hobby or is it or I don't know and I did it at first I wasn't really sure because I wasn't 100% sure and I think I was so afraid of failure but really I just wish I could look back and I had stuck with that, I put my head down and treated it like a 100 business without having any kind of plan B because any time you have a plan B it's just going to look away from the prize because you're like oh I have this back p plan, but don't think of a backup plan thinking it's going to succeed, take it seriously and treat it like a business from day one, so I mentioned in my

tips

before how looking more legit is being self-hosted and that's really really important, so that's a great tip to get started on a blog that will make you money because you can't get into different ad networks without self-hosting and again what that means is you want to own your own website so still you can do it through from wordpress but then it will sign up with a different host so for me i started on a very affordable site again that's part of treating it like a business is paying the money to do these things because if you have a blog that's like it was hellospoonful.wordpress.com or something like that it just doesn't seem that legit and it's like people don't take you that seriously but also more importantly being self hosted is what is going to get you to these ad networks further down the road so you can make money from ads i'm with mediavine i love them oh and i mentioned i started with siteground i'm not with them anymore um just my kind of traffic i got over that situation and there was just a few things i wanted to change about it.

I think it's great to start with, but once you get 100,000 page views, you'll probably want to go somewhere else just because of the way it works. it's that if there are too many people on your site it can crash at any time, that's the way the site works because your cpu was always running low and basically you just needed to get out of that situation because any minute now you would have a blog. post went semi viral like your site could crash so im with lyrical now and i really love them your customer service your customer service is amazing and everytime my site would get those spurts because like you i might have a pin that gram goes viral or pops up like an online magazine or something and gets a huge surge of traffic.
This is designed to withstand that you may need to upgrade later. It's like it's a consistent thing, but also like they're just I'm never going to close the view where Siteground would do that. Another thing I talked about about making it legit is getting a legit looking website and what I mean by that is just making it easy to use is very important if your users and audience can. i don't browse your website like i don't want to come back and i've done it like we've all been to websites we're like i'm out right away because it's so confusing i think we judge things first by aesthetics it's how we are as humans and then you want to have a nice website and you can get them so cheap my first i got it off etsy i think it was 30 or something like really cheap like no in the future probably and once the traffic starts growing again you probably want to hire someone who is a web designer to make it a little more lightweight and what i mean by that is this is getting a little more technical but basically google um cares a lot about the speed of your site so if you want that your blog posts to rank in google you should have a lightweight site because if your site takes a long time to load then that knocks you down in google like in the eyes of google so dont worry about any of that to start with as i think setting up anything better than a wordpress as a um free theme just because nothing about it is unique or original and i like what i said before like branding is really important so you can find what You want, do a little logo embedded all of that and I think that's really important, especially when you're starting to introduce brands to work with or just when people come to your website like you want to be memorable. buy a really cheap theme from etsy super simple um and yeah they will usually like to set it up for you so i definitely recommend doing that.
My next big tip is to get on pinterest. grow traffic early on because I feel like it's a lot easier for a pin to go viral than just getting ranked in Google so it's a lot easier to get quick traffic that way than with Google I feel like Google takes a lot, its more like a long term game where you have to like to increase your authority um with google whereas on pinterest you can only create pins and there is definitely a good strategy. I've taken a course um and I can link that below because it was amazing and it really helped me a lot with my image strategy you can hire someone I know early on like you probably don't want to spend a lot of money because you're just starting out but know that that is always an option but there are tons of free like youtube videos anything you can start learning on but be on pinterest from day one because that will be the easiest way to increase your traffic and then in turn you can get into different ad networks and get an instant income with your blog and my next tip would focus on SEO which is search engine optimization basically it's how you format your blog posts and i took a course called stupid , something stupid, simple SEO, I think that's what it's called, I'll link to it. down again um it was amazing so good so worth it and um again you can always hire someone who focuses on but i think early on it's really important to learn all the different facets of the business and blogging because you could hire someone something could happen they could get pregnant go on maternity leave and then you have no one to help you with your SEO and you never learned it so early on I think it's important to learn how to write a strong blog post that focuses on SEO, how to have some kind of Pinterest strategy, like learning all these things yourself before you hire, I mean a lot of us again aren't in this financial position where we can jump in and start hiring. folks anyway so i think it's important to be resourceful and learn on your own but um seo is going to be the next traffic source you really want to focus on i mean some people would say it's even like number one and then but that and pinterest are like the two main sources of traffic for my blog and that leads me to my next step which is to know your ROI and what I mean by that is ROI is return on investment, so what's it worth? five percent of my blog traffic comes from instagram, it's like a very small portion because as much as you might have recipes that maybe go viral or whatever other big reach, and people are swiping up and stuff, It's still nowhere near the amount that you're going to get google and pi interest in a day, so just knowing that only five percent of my traffic comes from there is my way of deciding that I probably shouldn't be spending as much time there as I should be in the kitchen developing recipes that I don't own Instagram and I need to get over that in your head like you own your website especially if it sells if it's self hosted you own your website that's your baby what you control. things happen with them, the algorithm is constantly changing, it's a huge headache and, I think it's very important for the brand and for people to know you, but at the end of the day, for me personally, Instagram is not a big part of it. of my time long term goal right now i do a lot of sponsorships its a big part of my income but ultimately i just want to make enough passive income with my own courses, my own ebooks, my products, my ads on my website, only ads outside of youtube. now but um so instagram sponso Ships aren't really a big part of my long term strategy.
My next piece of advice, I'm not quite sure which one we're on, but take courses, so again you have to spend money to make money and those who pay attention. these are two things i had to learn the hard way but its very true when i saw a lot of free stuff in seo and asked a lot of questions i read about it blah blah blah but i paid for that course once. I was like okay, I paid for this like I wanted to implement every little thing and get every dollar out of it. I want to earn more money than I spent on this course.
As if he wanted to get it back this month. So how can I do that and the courses are really important so the first one wasn't exactly a course but the one I took was food

blogger

pro which is more like a membership site but within that there are different courses that you can take, like photography and SEO and I don't know, it was more like a community, but it was very helpful for the former. because i didn't know what i was doing i was like i wanted to start a food blog and a professional food blogger just laid it all out the next course i bought was called pitch it perfect by julie solomon um this was really helpful to me at the time because I'm good now thank

full

y I'm at a point where brands are reaching out to me and finding me through my website and through Instagram so I don't do a lot of outreach really not really but in the beginning like if nobody really came to me, um, and if there were a lot of them, they would ask me how to try to give me a free product, but once I got to 5000 instagram followers, I thought I would start charging. so i took this course i learned everything else it just helped me a lot with negotiating and i learned how to presentbrands and working with brands and I liked how to rewrite an email or even like I don't know just get what you want. i really wanted to get out of this instead of like oh we'll send you these like free pizzas how w trade out of that for money now i think i've learned a lot more and um it just comes with experience too because i've worked with a lot more brands the one i was working on at the beginning um but i think that course is actually very helpful so if you dont know anything about pitching like i have no idea um i definitely recommend it uh the third course i took was i think making sense to affiliate marketing which honestly was a good course um I should probably go back and take it again to be a better judge but I just remember I took it like I've already been doing this for a couple years and I feel like I didn't learn much, but if you're a beginner and don't know anything about affiliate marketing, it's probably very helpful.
Affiliate marketing has never been a big part of my strategy but I definitely want it to be a bigger part for

2021

um next course was stupid simple seo um like I said awesome talked about that before , but i highly recommend linking it below amazing course and then the most recent one is ook it was called perfect pinterest and it was awesome so i just took it so i'm not really sure how the strategy is going to work so i'll let you I'll let you know in about three months if it's really working because it's too hard. say i've only been doing it for the last two weeks um so those are all the courses i took i definitely recommend them like i said i'll link them below and you can explore and see if they're worth your time. for you um and if you have taken any or heard of any leave it in the comments below because i love taking courses i think they are great i want to take one on youtube um i like to grow youtube and stuff so im growing my list I think it's really important to pay to take courses because it's basically just giving you all their information and instead of sitting around Googling for two weeks straight trying to figure something out, it's all laid out and they're generally very affordable um and then this isn't really advice but just the different ways you can make money to think of is through ads so like I said I'm with Mediavine that's why I have ads on my site yeah I'm sure they can probably be annoying to some people.
I don't really care that's how I make money and give you content for free so that's something to keep in mind if you're someone who gets annoyed with people having ads on their site it's like you're on their website for free. free content, so how else are they going to make money? So I love, I love Mediavine, that's the person I've been with, um, you must have, I think sixty thousand sessions, um, which is about a hundred thousand pageviews to qualify to get in. so that's one way you can make money another way is through sponsorships which like i said i'm trying to stay away from but only because some brands can be a bit of a pain to work with and i started this business. for it to be my own business and I want to be an entrepreneur and that way I look at it like you're doing a bunch of endorsements you're like a freelancer and you're still working for the man and I just don't work for the man so I don't want to having people I'm reporting to and sending stuff and editing like I just want to create the content I want so I don't really want to work with brands and do sponsored posts but it's definitely a great way to make money once you've generated enough traffic or have you grown your following on different social media platforms so brands want to work with you um another way is through affiliate marketing so if you don't know what that is it's basically if I share a product on my website and someone clicks on that link and then goes and buys the product.
I get a very small percentage, like pennies, but it adds up eventually. Another way to make money is through products and that can be like e-books, a physical product like you're selling something on etsy or whatever um merch shirts I don't know what. as a product so i know some dietitians like to do certain courses and they'll just sell it which is awesome because you're basically recording yourself and then the course is done which is um i used to work with clients one to one um and I did nutrition training and it got a little exhausting which is why I wrote my ebook because it was just a faster way to get the information out to the masses and I just went through everything that I went over with my clients so I think that products is a really good way because again you own that and it's a way that you don't have to rely on the uncertainty of the instagram algorithm or even like if the pinterest algorithm changes not to bring you money through ads but just to sell a product um next is you probably should have put this back on treating your blog like a business from the start which is not to be afraid to hire like you have the money um kind of trust your business i mean i didn't do enough in the early stages i was just worried um i saw how much i was coming in and i was worried about what i was going to get out but i think you're going to grow a lot faster if you just overlook the things you don't enjoy doing you don't want to have to learn how to do it you just don't like it let's say someone make your pins or something you're terrible at graphic design and they can do that or you say you want to write a ebook, you hire someone to do the layout or you can even try to find an intern like um.
I've reached out to different colleges asking for interns to help me with um stuff and then they can get class credit and they can help you so I think hiring third parties is a great way to grow your business early on. I pretty much contract everything I don't really want to do, but like I said before. I want to make sure I know how to do it so I know how to make all aspects of my website and keep it working, but I only know things I enjoy less and that someone else would do better anyway so my time can be spent elsewhere, um , but those are basically my tips on how to start a blog that will make you money, I hope they were helpful if you gave this video a thumbs up and hit subscribe so you never miss another video and if you enjoyed this video please let me know if you want to see more like this if you want me to go into more depth on something i talked about um but good luck it's not too cluttered.
