Today we just wanted to show you a clever idea we had and just purchased at our local thrift stores. This dish was 99 cents. It's originally a pretty good brand that you can get at Macy's, so we have more. a salad plate and then a dinner plate, so three dollars total for the plates and then at another thrift store we found this wooden candle holder, so we're going to paint it and then put the two together like this and it will form a

tiered

stand , so I just wanted to show you this, that's what we're going to start with with the paint that we're going to use.

I like to use these sample paints, they are pretty cheap and then you can do a lot of projects with them and see if I can read the color here. It's just a color combination. I actually made it match some chairs that I have in my office, so, but it's pretty close to this color here, so I'm just going to mix in a little bit of salt. wash it here and then we'll show you how to paint the chandelier. sure all the powders are mixed well, it looks perfect, it's very thick, you're going to paint this. the candlestick in a dough like motion so this is another reason why I love salt wash you really can't go wrong with it so you'll just dab it on and see those high peaks that's exactly what what are you doing. If you just want to rub it all in and load a little bit more paint here, this will be the bottom layer of paint, we're going to do a top layer of white, so this layer is the global layer and then the white will just be lightly painted on the top and you'll see what kind of effect it has when we sand, it's going to lift this blue layer from the bottom, it looks really cool and aged, so like I say, you can't go wrong with salt washing.

It's a bit of a sloppy painting. You're painting with a purpose, but it doesn't really matter what it looks like at the moment. You're just applying it to

It will be difficult not to get paint on me. my hands and once the entire chandelier is painted we'll let it dry not completely but mostly and then we'll take the brush and smooth out some of these ridges so I'll finish painting this and then I'll come back. I decided to put it on a paper plate so I could paint the rest without it getting too sticky. It's kind of stuck in there, so it's helpful. So you can see the ridges here, the paint is still a little bit wet but it's mostly dry and the next step you're just going to take

brush and smooth out those ridges a little bit that you don't want them to make. it'll go away completely, you're just trying to make them not so high and then you'll let it dry completely before doing the next step, so hopefully you can see a little bit of what was done here, just soften those peaks down a little bit . a little bit, but it's still nice and textured, so we'll let it dry completely and we'll come back and show you the next step.
Okay, this has dried completely now it's kind of glued to the plate, which is useful because then I can paint and not worry about getting sloppy, I've got some chalk paint here on white and this layer we're going to paint on nice and smooth and we will place all these little parts of the shaft first and then smooth the surface. when we're done, I'm just going to make sure that the paint is really nice, so I have to push the paint here where it goes and cover all the blue, then you just have to go around your piece and make sure.
It's nice and smooth, make sure there are no smudges anywhere, let it dry completely and we'll show you the final step. Once the chandelier has completely dried, we will do the final step for salt washing, which is sandpaper. The most crucial step for the salt wash because this will give it all of its depth and dimension so you can see here some of that blue color that's starting to show. We will just do it all over the chandelier and then it will be ready to glue it to the plates and we will have our spring. I want to make sure all the paint is sanded off first so the adhesive will stick, so I'll do this real quick.
All sanded now I got as much paint off the top and bottom as I could and I also marked where the center of the plate is so I know where to put this, we're going to use this gorilla. glue here and secure it to the plate. I'm trying to work fast here so it doesn't dry out. I'm trying to make sure the glue is pretty level and then I'm going to center this on the plate. Just look here and then I'm going to push down really hard. I'm going to let this dry first, then I'm going to put glue here and then I'm going to put the top layer on and I'm going to show you the finished product when We're done, here we have the finished

, look how pretty everything is decorated, so I'm going to take these decorations off. here so you can see what it all looks like finished, again we just used the gorilla glue and It holds up well and is sturdy so it was a pretty simple DIY task, cheap plates from a thrift store and also a candle holder from a thrift store, and you can do this with any plate, any candle holder, you can actually buy little pieces of hardware that you can drill into. the plate and have it screw on and you could do a three tier one if you want, but this one was pretty simple, pretty inexpensive and the total cost we paid two dollars for the large plate, one dollar for the small one and two dollars for the candle holder.
So a five dollar craft and it looks great.
