basicsstraight, STEEZY.co If your
basicsare bad, you'll be less versatile, you'll be less creative when you re-choreograph freeform, slower, less clean looking, more awkward, and never. develop your own unique style Now is that what you want? Is that what you want???? In the same way that strong houses are built on solid foundations, great

right, what are the fundamentals and fundamentals of dance? Great question Jessie! It is the movement on which your dance is built. For example: House, Ballet, Hip Hop, even martial arts or gymnastics can be considered foundations for your movement. Each of these styles has its own set of fundamental moves. If
learning to dance was like
learning a language, this is the alphabet. These are the things that give a style its look, what you can see and say Yes, that's House! Or, No, that's definitely not Hip Hop. And those core moves and techniques, those unique fundamental building blocks are rooted in the history of the style.
For example, Hip Hop has its fundamental bounces and rocks. These came from the parties in the Bronx where Hip Hop started. Like the MC Rock, it literally came from how The Emcees did this move to get the crowd going. With the base down, you can elaborate Add arm movements, add different steps, add your own style. This allows you to look different than the person next to you while maintaining the integrity of that. style. Going back to the language analogy, it's like Clay and I speak English, but we have our own ways of articulating things. Ok David, good job, but when you teach the next cult, I need you to go slow, meds, then temps, okay? ok??
Woah, this is a swagaronie macaronie, dude! That's not English... So it's a different style, it's a different set of foundational alphabet Ohhhhh You can also trace an artist's style back to its foundational roots. For example, Jawn Ha used to do Tae Kwon Do and Chris Martin was a Breaker. So now that we know what the basics of dance are, let's talk about how to train them. Learn, practice, evaluate, control your own pace. Step 1: Learn the right thing. So you want to start by learning those foundational moves. But you have to make sure that your teacher or your tutorials are not crazy.
Otherwise, you will just start doing the wrong thing and develop bad habits. And you don't want to look like a diet version of whatever style you're trying to learn. So once you learn, then it's time to... Step 2: Practice - Specifically, Interspersed Practice You know how when you're working out, you want to switch between the day leg and chest day? It is the same with dance. You want to practice different things in rotation. Leg jumps on Monday, torso jumps on Tuesday, booty jumps all weekend... just kidding. Step 3: Questionnaire - difficult. Questioning is basically the act of making yourself remember an answer.
So, for example, when we are in class, we usually watch the choreographer and follow him. But that has not been shown to be the most effective way to learn. Instead, take your eyes off the teacher and have your own body remember the movements. If you put your brain to work, the movements are more likely to stick. Step 4: Control your pace. Now, all of this takes time. But the good thing about building the foundation is that there is no deadline. You'll always be adding to your essential tool belt, whether you're new to dance or a professional dancer.
So be patient and you will surprise yourself. If you want a framework for how long and how often you should train, check out our "How Much Do You Need To Practice To Become An Amazing Dancer" video.
