Feb 18, 2020hey guys matt gutman here and going back another video and today he's going to be about how to get
part one so a couple of things beforehand in order to join boy
scout
rank
part
1 so just a few side notes before i get into this video 1 if you're new toscout
ing in general or if you're brand new on my channel, make sure you understand what this video is about and understand what my channel is about. I've been in Boy Scouts for a while and I'm actually going to be getting old soon because at 18 it was mandatory. requirement to leave the Boy Scouts, you can't be an adult and be in the Boy Scouts as if you were apart
icipating Scout, so I'm 16 and the goal of this channel is to try to get Eagle Scout in under two years, but for beginners that you are right in scouting so i will teach you some tips and also how to get scoutrank
part one so a couple of things beforehand in order to join boy scouts
you must orscouts
bsa you must have completed 5th grade and be at least ten years old or you can have earned the air of light from Cub Scouts and be at least ten years old or you can be eleven years old and not yet eighteen, so those are the different categories that you might fall into to join to what Scouts BSA so for the ranks there are seven of them here are all seven there are rank Scout Tenderfoot second classfirst
class star Life Scout Scout and Eagle Scout so the Scout rank is one of seven you can get and if you look to the left, the brown which is the Scout rank and it's brown because that was the color originally but as of January 2016 it became gold to match the others and it also came with a new set of requirements, so that was about three years ago and i'm going to teach you thefirst
requirement because that's a lot of memorization you have to do there's seven requirements overall but the first two are very much divided into sections where there's a lot of there's a lot of part of what you have to memorize so in my personal opinion exploring is good because of the experience it's an adventure it also gives the number of skills someone can learn and the effects it has on morale and life everyday that's just my personal take on why I would join Scouts BSA or formerly known as Boy Scouts and the wide options for achievements because there's so much you can do so much you can earn and so much you can achieve to pass the requirements while working on the requirements oh you always want to refer to the Boy Scout Handbook first when working on ranks it will always be in the Boy Scout Handbook and if you're still not sure you can look it up on the internet or ask that fellow Scout to not just get the requirement you need. be able to understand it too I've had a lot of people who are second class first class that's third and fourth rank and they still can't do simple goals or simple tasks because they never understood what they were getting they were just getting so I need to be able to know what you are doing and you know you have learned it if you can teach that skill to someone else and help them understand it so keep that in mind when you work on these requirements now the actual requirements Number one Scouts must repeat from memory the motto and the Scout Oath law slogan. Now I could go on to the next requirement, but these are actually a very important part of Boy Scouting because they're like, I guess, you could say the codes of conduct. that we follow so you need to be able to explain their meaning in your own words and to do so you need to know what they are and understand what they mean so the Scout Oath let's get into that the Scout Oath or promise is a I promise to help to our community, to our world, and to ourselves, and says the following on my honor. I will do my best to do my duty to God in my country.
Obey the Scout law. Help other people at all times. Stay physically strong. mentally awake and morally upright so the Scout Oath is what Scouts follow while carrying out their duties and obligations as a boy scout the scout law is a scout is trustworthy loyal helpful friendly courteous and obedient cheerful thrifty brave clean and reverent for what Since there are twelve words in Total, you need to be able to understand their individual meanings, such as what that word means and how it applies to you and your time in the scouts. The Scout motto I will quote Sir Robert Baden-Powell, who was the founder of the Boy Scouts, he said. get ready the meaning of the motto is that a scout must prepare for a previous one thinking and practicing how to act in the event of any accident or emergency so that he never takes my surprise very well said it is something self explanatory if you know that the word prepared means that a scout should always be prepared scout motto do a good turn every day now if you look in the top right you can see in those rank patches the scroll there is a scroll in most of those ranks it is turned up in a smile shape to remind them to the Scouts who should happily do a good deed and take a breather there's a lot of memorization early on instead of cramming all this stuff together and trying to get it all because if you do that it's not just not going to work because studying isn't as short term ,usually you wish you like you can jam it in your mind so you know so try playing a game with friends to memorize the words or do a troop activity and also read the handbook there is also a Boy Scout Handbook , then make a new addition like every year, but it's still nice to have at least your own copy so you can get a clearer understanding of those abilities, so look at the front of hand.
Now that was just the first subcategory of the first requirement. There is much more, so Scouts should be told what Scouting is. Describe some ways you have shown Scout spirit by practicing the Scout Oath. Scout Law. Scout motto and Scout slogan. you need to know requirement one first to do this and once again the spirit Scout which will be in the manual near the front one see demonstrate the Scout signal salute and handshake and explain when they should be used for the scouts signal show that you are a scout and every time you recite the scout oath and law you must have it at a 90 degree angle with your three fingers the scout salute is a sign of respect you use it to salute the flag and you can use it to salute a scout leader the scout handshake is just a show of friendship with your left hand and you have to hold his hand firmly and you only use this handshake when both people are in uniform so that's the scouts sign , he has the Scout salute and handshake which is his left hand, another thing to keep in mind is that during large ceremonies or congregations like this, everyone must show the proper signs as to what they are reciting, so that is what we're doing in this giant ceremony here ok so this rank is first class rank this is fourth rank and Boy Scouts even for 1d Scouts need to describe the first class insignia and say what each represents part of it and explain the meaning of the first class Scout badge for this to be one of the changing points in Boy Scouts I'm not going to say why because I'll give the answer but this is also on the front of the book like this that that is one d1e repeat the outdoor code from memory in your own words explain what the outdoor code means to you i will tell you that this outdoor code is actually many don't know it and even if they do know they don't have any idea what it means just my own side note it starts out similar to the applications for these Scout Oath so you should know the difference between them because the Scout oath starts with on my honor i will do my best and outdoor code starts as american i will do my best to get them to start similar so try not to confuse them here is the outdoor code as an american i will do my best to be clean in my outdoor manners to be careful with fire, consider any outdoors and be conservation conscious so again not many Scouts like to fully understand what this means and during my meeting openings when we recite this there is always a Scout who he's trying to lip sync everyone because i don't know so make sure you know and the last requirement for number one to repeat the oath of allegiance from memory and your own words. explain your meeting I mean most public schools say the Pledge of Allegiance every day, but in case you don't know, here is the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic representing one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all and you can't just say the words you have to know the words so this is like the first requirement out of Scout rank there are seven in total as of 2019 there are there are seven of them but number one and two have various things as you can see in this video number one had seven things and number two has like four and that's what the requirements are there is a requirement but there are subcategories for those requirements, so while we're working on the requirements for the Scout rank.
I recommend checking Mehrabad org. It's a really helpful site or I can get what the requirements are and it gives helpful tips online. It has helpful hints for learning the Scout rank and not one. more side note: it doesn't provide any benefit if these concepts go over someone's head, you need to know them, you need to know what they mean, know how it applies to Boy Scouts, so again, this was just the first requirement keep an eye out when you do the second part which is providing leadership the patrol method how to tie knots and how to be safe online those are just a brief overview of what the rest of the requirements are but that's what it all Basic Scouting you should know when you get into Boy Scouts and I will explain them in another video so thanks for watching my video on how to get the rank of Scout part 1 if you enjoyed it please share it with any other new Scouts you know to help them learn in an amazing way, like the video to know the notifications on my channel and see you all in the next bye
