How to Emotionally Manipulate Your YouTube Audience
Jun 01, 2021ok i'm actually doing this i guess i should just say that
youtube
rsmanipulate
theiraudience
s constantly and most of the time theaudience
doesn't even know they are beingmanipulate
d so recently Anthony from Smosh released a video explaining why I was Leaving the incredibly famous Smosh YouTube channel, I just hope that being honest with you and explaining how I feel and have been feeling helps you understand. I'm not going to say that I rubbed myself the wrong way. just very interesting to see a perfect case study of ayoutube
r manipulating his audience now manipulating an audience is something that everyone does YouTube is a unique platform because the entertainment you are seeing when you are watching a youtuber is a person talking to you or at least that's what it feels like it feels like it's a person you know someone you're kind of friends with because you know them but the ones that let you see and we've seen so many examples of people like Casey Neistat talking about this The video I'm showing you isn't exactly my real life, it's a hyper-edited condensed version of it, and similarly, I feel like this video Anthony posted is not lying at all?I don't think she's lying about any of the things she's feeling, but I do think she's exaggerating things for an audience so they understand how she feels, wow, it's not necessarily an inherently bad thing, but it's something I think the people should be more aware when watching this video. I see many signs of someone trying to be
emotionally
honest with his audience, but in doing so he is putting this false emotionality above everything he is doing. saying everything that Anthony says in this video is so intentional and purposeful and soulful that it seems fake because he is the one acting. It's hard for me to admit that it's finally happening. I'm not saying I'm not sad because he left. the company. I'm not saying you're not going to miss working with
your
friend on a YouTube show. All the real things he said in the video are probably true, but he presented these feelings and thoughts in such a calculated way that it doesn't feel genuine. What I forgot to point out is the fact that this isn't like a little candid Anthony video. I mean the man didn't wake up in bed and say, hey, you know what I'm supposed to do. his makeup he has his hair is well lit and yet he's so doing like he didn't prepare what he was going to say even though he definitely did there are a few other videos like this that have gotten some criticism like Ingrid what's her last name Ingrid Nelson like Ingrid Nelson Nelson, there are other youtubers like Ingrid Nilsen who made a YouTube video about something very serious, something that she wanted to share with people, but the way she chose to share it was again very calculated and it feels so fake.Again, I'm not trying to say that she didn't have a hard time dealing with people who were mad at her for being gay or something, but what I'm saying is that some YouTubers choose to present important information in an overly dramatic emotional way. way to get people to watch the video here is a list of things i came up with to keep in mind when watching a youtube video of a youtuber that you really enjoy when they talk about something that seems very emotional or hard for them to deal with It's not that they're not actually having a hard time dealing with this, it's just a few good things to keep in mind because people manipulate people and when you have a relationship with the youtuber just by watching their videos it can be quite easy. being manipulated by that number one person the sigh now the sigh is a classic manipulation technique you start
your
video like this it shows the audience that you're sad because you're dealing with something intense or emotional i It's so funny how many times it's said to use the exact technique. He also tells the audience: hey, we're going to be here for a while. accommodate us. This is going to be like a trip for both of us. The format change now is not what always happens but a lot of times when someone is making a video like this they break their normal format either they record their video on their phone or on their webcam if the youtuber you watch normally he makes daily vlogs very excited and happy. then all of a sudden out of nowhere its like this sad ultra close up consider the fact you might be being manipulated by avoiding eye contact now normally a youtuber looks directly into the lens every time they are talking to the camera because it's supposed to feel like i'm talking to you in these videos they don't want to look at the camera they want to look at everyone else i've been around a long time or avoiding eye contact is a fairly well known non-verbal sign that someone is being dishonest So So, if someone is having a hard time looking directly into the lens, there's a chance they're not necessarily lying to you, but just not being 100%
emotionally
honest with how they're feeling.I understand. I know. i've done it several times i've had several videos on my youtube channel where i've talked about things that mean a lot to me when you make a video like this you're opening yourself up to the world but youtube is a pretty tough place there are a lot of people who will say really nasty things about you i dont want someone online to hurt me they are anonymous they can say almost anything they want and words hurt so i get it why everything is so calculated yeah thats a bit all this feels amazingly rehearsed like they thought of every little thing they were going to do.
I'm afraid. Another thing to look for is strange breathing and strange breathing. basically you need to sound like you just ran three miles or did some kind of cardio recently lemme lemme try no it's just hard you know Vocal Fry sounds like that and when you talk it sounds like that. I am very sad today. I know I just and then when you put them together it sounds like this and it's hard for me to admit that it's finally happening then we have attractive crying/just dry gagging so you know what people crying looks like it usually looks So.
Now let's take a look at the crying in some of these videos. I'm talking about the reason why it's been so hard for me to admit that things change. The things they cry about in these videos are not necessarily things that haven't changed. they cried at one point but they're not really crying right now these are artificially engineered emotional outbursts it's so obvious so unbelievably obvious that people don't look this way when they cry when you cry you get ugly hardly anyone cries like a pretty person that's a movie thing because you know what happens in a movie when someone is crying they're acting that's what these people are doing too they just aren't that skilled they don't have that much experience pretending to be sad it drags everything now this is something everyone in this guy from video list I understand you have to increase the running time you have to have a video because if you just say I'm gay or I go smosh and then the video ends people it's not enough people need more information than that , but you don't need to upload your video in advance so I can't believe I'm doing this oh I've waited so long to do this either.
I am literally shaking. I'm so worried about it. I'll get to what you're saying. I feel like the YouTubers doing this are acting a bit like Michael Scott. What about the surprise? Oh yeah. I'm shaking right now because I thank you Angela for taking care of her and she's here before she tells everyone what the big surprise is. tell me what you think the big surprise is so I'm sitting here today because I care about you there's a big surprise and here it is here we go and I know when Vaughn's pick came out his video was very straightforward I don't did.
His personality didn't change that's why he was talking about something that was very emotional for him but he didn't change to like this person when it happened he was very direct he didn't force a tear he didn't do any of that I'm not saying that Vaughn's choice is a better person than Ingrid, but how people perceive your story and journey comes down to presentation. The last thing I would say to look for is when a youtuber leaves at the part of the video where they turn the camera on or off unless it's like a recurring gang on the show they always start by turning the camera on like they're pimps but most of people don't do that, so here's an example of how the video would end. they would be sitting there they would be saying the last t few things like i will never forget the time i spent with this person or with this company or with this youtube channel and i really look forward to what the future holds and they turn off the camera and then it shows up a text on the screen like i love you or thank you so much for being there for me well we can do this together stuff like that its not an inherently bad thing its just something that happens a lot and its very intentional so yeah guys more or less everything is more or less everything hey what's up what's up man no no don't worry about me it's okay you know? don't worry about it it's ok you're not bothering me it's something wrong ok I know you always put that book down Easy Riders Raging Ball yeah it's a really good book.
