You can really see where there is an increase and there is a singular point between each increase and that increases depending on the number of rounds you are doing if you are doing the small basket you will repeat or you will not repeat so you will work the instructions until round ten if you are doing the basket larger you will work the instructions until round fourteen I'm going to work on this a little bit and do a couple of rounds and then I'll move on to the next part of the instructions so you know how to pass the base of the basket okay I wasn't very away, I just went up to the fifth round because my hands started to hurt really bad and I want to make sure I don't use up all the time of the video just knitting a circle, so let's go ahead and move towards the sides of the basket now with all this face the basket we have been working in rounds to work our increases to get the base of the basket as big as we want.
Now we want these sides of the basket to start coming up to grow from the base, so what we do is we'll knit around this entire base without working increases and we'll just work on the back loop, that will give us this really cool open loop. There you can see that really cool open loop and that means that when the base of your basket is This acts as a place where the basket folds, okay, it looks great and it's finished, so let's go ahead and work through the back loop, only you will go ahead, chain one and working on the back loop only you.
Single crochet around your circle, so I'm working on just the back loop. You see that front loop right there. I'm going to the back loop and I'll do a single crochet, so for me I'll have a total of 30 single crochets. all the way when it's done if you follow the instructions for the small basket you will have a total of 60 if you follow the instructions for the large basket you will have a total of 84 you will see here that as you work around this front loop that we are not using, it is the part that turns into that nice little ridge on the basket, it's a really great design feature and it really makes the turn from the base to the body of the basket nice, smooth, easy and simple, so this is a nice little nice touch made by beautiful designer heather lijinsky.

I'm going to go all the way to the end so you can see the slip stitch and then what's going to happen once we get past this part is we're going to continue working in rounds. but we won't be working any increases like we did on the base, we'll just do single crochets all over and when it's time to change colors, you'll know when that's based on the instructions and it's as simple as I'm just changing colors when you get to the slip stitch, so here I am almost at the end of my round and I'm going to go back and count just because I think I'm at the end.
Maybe I have one more there, but I want to make sure again. I'm just going to say that's my chain one, so here's my low point, so one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 look I have one more it's always good to go back and count especially when you're working on rounds like this don't just say oh you know what I'm good always go back and count just to make sure now I'm going to go ahead and join with a slipped stitch like I've been doing before and you can already start to see that my base wants to hollow out on itself, it's already starting to take shape, which is what we want now.
These next rows that we are going to work with this same color without any increaseWe're going to work just like we did with the base where we're going to go through the entire stitch. We're not going to just work on the back loop, okay, you're going to go through the entire stitch, however, you're not going to work increases like you did with the base, you're just going to knit. single crochets all around, which means that the number of stitches will not change. The instructions say you are supposed to do this. particular round of five rounds if you are making the small basket and 19 rounds if you are making the larger basket once you read that you reach the number of rounds you plan to make for the sides of your basket in this color it will be time to change color and that's what I'm going to do next so I can show you how to change the color of the top of your basket.
Welcome back. I've worked five rounds on my little basket that I'm making here and it's time to change color, what you'll notice here is that I'm at the end of my round and I went ahead and cut my thread leaving at least six inches because I like to have that to be able to knit. Later I'll grab the yarn I'm going to use for the top of my basket again. I want to make sure I keep three strands together so I have three strands of Aaron's really pretty color with love. and I like to match the length of the tail to what I just cut because that way I make sure everything is about the same length and when I place my hook at the point where I'm going to do my slip stitch, I'll end it with my new yarn, pull it through the slip stitch and pull it through the loop that is on my hook, what that does is it allows the color change to happen right here without interrupting this stitch and the new color is on my hook ready to will be worked, so the instructions now say we're going to go ahead and make a chain with this new color and then a single crochet in the same point as the join, so there's our join and I'll make a single crochet in the same point as my union now.
I'm going to go ahead and make a single crochet in each stitch and join it with the slip stitch right there, so it's like what we've been doing before, only now I have a new color to look at, which is exciting because it makes you feel like you're making great progress on this really cool basket. I know one of the questions I've gotten regarding this basket is: Can I make it striped? Could you make it in one color? You could do whatever you want. As for colors, if you want to make sure your basket is the same size as the sample baskets, just make sure you keep working the same number of rows as written in the pattern, but change the colors more or less frequently, but keep the same number of rows, so that's one way you could really change this basket and make it yours now.
Another way is obviously very similar to what I'm doing. I'm just making mine super small so I made the base of my basket smaller I made the sides of my basket smaller and what I'm going to do is make a little candy, a parody that I think would be super cute for Christmas gifts, especially maybe for teachers or something where they can put little ones, maybe Jolly Ranchers or candy in their little basket on their desk or maybe you want to put something that is a quintessential teacher and put an apple in the little basket, maybe with a little caramel sauce and eat a sweet.

I always leave four to six inches, pull that out and then just weave the tail in and look how cool that little finishing touch is. just a nice finishing touch, it's called crab stitch or reverse single crochet and I think it looks like a nice finishing touch again that's not in the original basket pattern, but I wanted to add it to my little candy dish. right here, right this little basket of candy, oh, isn't that so adorable. I'm serious, it's so cute. The last thing you want to do now is weave in the ends, so I'm going to show you the really quick way to leave it on. your ends to weave into your tails I like to take the three threads and if I can using my bent point tapestry needle I will thread the three threads through the eye of the needle once I've done that I'm going to go ahead I'm going to Knit this so that stay on the inside of my little basket here and it works on the inside, so let me turn this around.
