How To Crochet a Simple Flower - Absolute Beginners

Apr 30, 2020
Hello everyone in this video I'm going to show you how to make a really easy

flower

and this video is going to be for

absolute

beginners

so it's going to be a pretty slow video so I'm warning you now because one of the first things. What I wanted to make when I started knitting was

flower

s so all you're going to need for this video is some yarn and I chose some dk wasted light yellow yarn and a hook that goes well with your yarn because I'm using a yarn light for wall stitch, dk thread. I'm going to use a 3.5 millimeter

crochet

hook which is an electronic hook and I'm also going to need some scissors and a yarn noodle, but these are really optional, um, okay? so let's start right, so the first thing we're going to do is take our thread and we're going to create a slip knot first and to make a slip knot, all we do is wrap our tail around this. the final end of our thread we're going to wrap it around our fingers, our first two fingers we're going to cross on the other side, so I just wrap them and cross them and use my third finger there just to hold it. place to make sure they're crossed, let me take our hook, we're going to go under the first piece of yarn, we're going to use our hook and grab the second piece, I'm just going to pull that out so we're just putting that under and then we drop everything and then we just pull up and that creates our slipknot, so I'll show you that again.

I've made a video in more detail making a slipknot, but that's what I thought. we can see everything in one place, so we just wrap that with our two fingers crossed, hold it in place, let me go under the first one, under the first one and then just grab the second piece so that it crosses over and is underneath so that is knotted. and pull that up and release everything else, making sure to keep it there and then just pull the main piece of thread, tighten and voila, we have our slipknot, sorry, okay, so what are we going to do now? for our little flower we're going to make seven chains, so I'm just going to put our hook under our yarn and we're just going to pull it through the loop of our hook to create a chain.

I'm going to do that seven times, so I'm just going to hook our yarn and I'm going to keep it taut by keeping it a little tight in my fingers there just to create a little bit of tension, not too tight, just pull it through the loop of your

crochet

hook each time so they're two and wrap it again. three below just pass that through four five now you have five chains and all we're doing is just passing this thread, we're just passing it through the loop on our hook six so then we have seven one two three four five six seven are seven chains and we have seven chains.

What we want to do is pass our hook through our first chain to find our first chain, so we have seven one two three four five six seven, so there's our first one there and you see that little hole there, we just want to pass our hook through that hole and I'm just catching the top piece of thread, you can ignore the rest at the bottom, we just want to catch that top piece. We're just passing our hook through that chain, catching that top piece, we're going to pass our yarn through that loop and the loop of our hook, so we're going to take it through the two loops, the chain and the loop of our hook and there. creates a slip stitch by doing it by just passing it through the chain and then straight through our loop which creates a slip stitch and it also creates a little loop like this so you have your seven chains and they are connected at the beginning and they have created a little loop and you have a hole in the middle and it's that hole in the middle that we're going to work some stitches into to make a flower, so the first thing we're going to do is we're going to chain another four stitches, so we're going to go back to our chaining, so we're going to keep using our fingers and our hands to keep ourselves a little tight, we're only going to chain four, so we're going to take our yarn and pull it through the loop of our hook again so it's one and again two three and four of the same size, you chained four again so it looks a little bit like this and then what we're going to do is We're going to work a double crochet stitch and that might sound a little scary and a little big, it's very

simple

because what What we do is wrap our yarn around our hook a couple of times like this to end up with three loops that you have. your main hook, main loop and then you've wound your yarn once, just create a second loop and then twice and keep it pretty loose so it moves up and down pretty easily.

You don't want it too tight, but you don't want it. It is very loose because it falls apart and again we use our hand to keep it tight. What we are going to do is that once we have wound it twice, we will pass the hook through the center of the small loop that we created so that that big hole in the middle we can pass our hook through there. I'm going to grab our thread and pull it out from there, so just bring it through that loop like this and obviously if you hold it tight with your On the other hand, it makes this stay together a little better, so now you should have four loops, you have your main loop, then you have the two that you wrapped and then the one that you just went through, so let's go.
To weave again, I'm just going to hook our yarn again making sure to keep the tail out of the way, so we're going to hook our yarn again and we're going to bring it in, we're going to pull it through. two loops, I'm going to put it through the first and the next like this, so we have three loops left, yarn over again and then we're going to put it through two loops again, so we have two loops. left, then yarn over and pull through the last two to finish with a loop again that we're working with that finishes our double crochet stitch, so it's a pretty big stitch that you just learned, maybe you already know, as I said.
This video is going to be pretty slow, so forgive me if I sound like I'm patronizing your crochet skills if you know what you're doing, but I wanted this video to be for

absolute

beginners

, so be patient. We're going to do two more of these double crochets, so we're going to do it two more times, so again we wrap the yarn twice around our hook keeping it a little tight in our hands like this so it doesn't come undone and then we put our hook back on. Through the center loop, we're going to grab our thread and pull it through like this to have our four loops.
I could hold it in place while I move my hands and again just wrap the yarn over our hook and we're going to pull it through the first two loops like this and you want to keep these loops pretty loose, they move up and down so you can pull them through because If they're too tight, you're going to have a really hard time getting them through, so keep them loose enough for them to move up and down and what we do next is we make the yarn over and we pull through the next two loops like this and as you can see when I move .
The hook actually, as we do the last one, I pull for the last two, I just roll it down and turn the hook down so it pulls the yarn and keeps it on the hook, so I turn the hook so it's facing down while I go through my stitches and when I come out the other side I turn it up to face up again and that controls the stitch, so I'm going to do one more of those double crochet stitches. I'm going to knit the yarn over twice. I'll go through that again. center loop and grab our yarn and again turn that hook down and then up and we're going to grab our yarn and pull it again turning the hook down through the first two and then up and weave down through the next two and then up at the end so we don't lose our thread, then down and through the last two and up like this and that creates our third treble crochet stitch, then to finish our first petal we just chain four so they are one, two, three and four and everything we do. to finish our first petals we are going to do a slip stitch in our center ring and to do that we just don't knit anything, we go straight through the loop and grab our thread pulling it up and then we just put it on.
Through our loop right away, we don't do anything else, we just pull it straight through the main loop and then straight into the loop on our hook and that creates our first petal, like to say, and we'll basically repeat those same steps on another one. another four times, so we're going to chain four again, chain one, two, three four and then we're going to do three double crochet stitches, so we're going to double crochet one and two, keeping it a little tight there. It's not too loose, let's hold it like this and I put my hook through the center loop.
I'm going to grab the arm and swing the hook down and up. I'm just going to hold them in place while I move my hands. around and then we make loops and we go through the first two loops, we go through the first two, so always remember to just go through the first two loops, we go through the first and last two in the same way and we do it two more times, like this that we put the yarn around your hook twice and go through that big hole, grab the yarn, pull it up and cast, go through the first two making sure to turn the hook up again so it's facing up and then turn the hook up down as you move through the points and up. up and then turn the hook down as you go for the last two, then up for example, always making sure to keep the yarn on the hook and wrap it around twice for our last triple stitch. return by pulling up.
I find it easier to hold the flower. when I yarn through the stitches it holds them in place, I yarn over the first two, it's fine for the next two and I yarn over the next two, so I'm just pushing all the stitches and we chain four in a notice. My hook turns down and then up three and four and then we just do a slip stitch to bring our petal down and all we do is literally go through the loop, grab our yarn and pull it right through the loop of our Hook like this, there we have our second petal, so I'm going to do that three more times.
You can pull the tail end a little another three times just by pulling it out of the way. If you don't mind, you can. always trim it down it keeps getting in the way so let's do that another three times so chain four again one two three four there's no set way to hold the hook um just do what feels right to you you know there's There are a lot of rules about how to hold a hook, but you hold it however you want and whatever feels comfortable because at the end of the day you just want to be able to knit, so that's the main thing. so don't worry too much about how you hold the hook and I think the only thing I recommend is using these three fingers to keep the yarn a little tight and help with the tension, but we've chained four so let's go back to our three stitches crochet stops, so we just make two yarn overs, we go through that main loop and we just turn our hook down and up and then I'm going to move these fingers to hold my flower in place, so I can see my loops and I'm going to knit the yarn over, grab that thread again, pull it through the first two and up cut the thread for the next two, grab the thread for the last two, there's our triple crochet stitch, let's do it two more times, look at my fingers they always come to hold my project, move our stitches over the yarn over twice for the last one back, grab my thread, lift it up and I hold them with this finger while I move them to hold my project, you know, take our thread and bring it. through two rubber thread, take it through two, grab the thread, take it through two and there we go, we've made three so we just chain four, now chain one two so you can see my fingers always hold project three and four and we need to do that awkward slip stitch which is basically holding it tight going through the main loop grabbing the tail and grabbing the yarn and then again holding the project with my fingers to see that loop just pulling it up through that loop on the far straight hook is our third leaf, it looks like a 3D clover right now.
I'm going to do that two more times, so again we chain four one two three four. Know? twice for our triple crochet stitch, you may have to move the stitches. to make sure there's enough room and then we go through there, we take our yarn and I'm going to use these fingers to hold this finger in place while I move these fingers to hold my project, then I make the yarn over, I make two yarn overs, I make the yarn over two, then yarn over, pull for the last two, always work with one stitch, do it two more times hmm and simply finish on the last petal chaining four, one, two, three and four.
We need to move these stitches to have the space and we're just going to do three double crochets as usual through that loop, take the yarn, pass two three, two yarns, two times the last one, let's chain four and just slip the stitch to come in, grab my arm. using this finger to hold it hold our project just bring it right through the loop of our hook and there's our little flower so let's take it out you should be able to see your little flower so there we go what am I going to do ? What I do is I just trim, trim my thread, I'm just going to pull that, find which end is moving and lift it up, you can use it to hang or whatever you want to do and then just pull the tail end, just bring in this circle half just a little bit and there we go, there's our
