How Much Horsepower Do American Racing Headers Pick Up On A C8 Corvette?!

Jun 05, 2021
Alright, today we are going to do another 2020 CA Corvette. We are going to test the new American

racing

heads. We did a cooking game a week ago again. We made the heads with our high-flow cast and our cat-back. at the same time so we don't really know what the

headers

were doing we went ahead and just baselined this car with our high flow cats and the cat put it back on now so now we're just installing the

headers

so we can see a real difference from what the headers earned uh we're just tearing it up now again it's got our high flow cast and it's got our cap back on and then the header will continue now and hopefully later today or probably tomorrow I'll see some results.

I'm really hoping for a 20 rail

horsepower

kit if you make it with a great head, especially for a stock engine and stuff like that, obviously, when we start making heads with bigger engines later on. That way you're going to see a lot more gains from headers and exhaust systems and things like that on a stock cubic inch engine, it just flows so

much

that you can put the biggest header in the world on it and you can actually lose

horsepower

, but you already know. Right now we're doing what we're doing if we can see a 15 to 20 regulation horsepower gain that's a good number to get just with a set of headers okay so the art is here grunting and grunting and Moaning, you're about to understand this, uh, let me understand.

The factory heads will be removed here in a moment, I still have to remove a few more pieces to get to it, but since we already did, one put his brother Aldo in there, so it shouldn't be too difficult for my brother, I removed the covers a brother. headers or heat shield now basically trying to remove them from cats etc oh foreigner okay what's up from the start? What are some of the biggest things that you notice about these headlines compared to the originals compared to the stores one, yeah, or the cooks too, ah, there's no comparison, look at that, yeah, I know the shareholders look like shit compared to these, yeah, and unlike the cooks, these have a three inch collector instead of two and a half, you know, three quarters of three. two four and seven eighths to be exact yes I told you it was two seven eight I didn't think they were trying I knew it change your guesses about horsepower how many horsepower do you think you're going to make? steven said around 20 I'm hoping for about 15-20 horsepower, what do you think it is?

What do you think these are going to

pick

up these uh, these nuts? I don't know, maybe 10 horsepower, what's your prediction? 10 horsepower, I'm going to go with 15. Although this original mana collector head looks pretty good, I think the design they have is good,

much

better than the other one, the other one we just did. Yes, I'm with you, yes, two, eight, seven, five, yes, almost three inches, yes. two eighths more or less then two eight seven five then two and seven eight yes, the others were two and a half for sure, but we'll see, I can say the other one, yes, because one more here we are trying, this is two a collector and medium and they just formed it, yes with two and seven, collectors look much better in these too, I think the runner link is much better, yes, the other one works for a long time, attacked, I hope it increases 15 yes, I think it will be, I mean, it's a nice design, it's hard to be, I mean, it's pretty impressive what GM did at the factory, you know, but again, like on a stock engine, we're seeing minimal gains, but once you start making heads. cam 427s that's when you start to see something real like a step style header oh yeah you're like even a 178.28 yeah you know yeah but again bigger cubic inches bigger heads bigger cam you're gonna see a lot more, yeah, more notice of a difference, you know? otherwise, oh yeah, bro, right, almost two and a half, look at that, you know what I mean, so that's the intro part, yeah, if you want to go all the way here, let's do it, you know, six, two, five, maybe yes, uh, two and five.

Eight, yes, time will tell. I'm curious to see the rear wheel horsepower and then the engine dyno, so that's a first. So far, they've sent us some thermal blankets and I can definitely see why these headers certainly stand out a lot. higher than the hooks or the factory ones, this car should sound sick when it's finished, yeah, okay, we already have the headers on, we already started putting everything back together, so it's pretty quick, see you a million times, Guys, to know everything that happens. I just finished putting the air intake back in and I think we're going to slap the bumper in this hallway.
Should be ready to go definitely strong, yeah, sounds good, sounds great, oh I can't wait, yeah, I love it. and hopefully it will get horsepower, if not it sounds rough either way, yes I think it will, although I think this will show some games at the moment, it will tell, we will get on the dyno soon, we will go to lunch, we will finish. put the dyno on after lunch, so all right guys, I'm excited for today's test drive. We are in a 2020 Corvette. It has our LMR cat-back exhaust and our high flow cats, but this car we added our first set of American

racing

headers and it sounds amazing uh the header system fits very well this is a z51 car It's a one and seven-eighths header things are always good in terms of equipment and quality uh there's nothing better than it's made in America I don't get anything Chinese or China I mean garbage, but they are other manufacturers, they produce a product and the product is good, but then they send it abroad to mass produce it, obviously, to make money and the final product you get.
On a car, especially a 100,000 nice car we modify, it's not worth saving an extra $500 for an inferior product. You know you're buying an American-made product and you know you like our cat-back exhaust system and even these headers. and will outlive the useful life of this vehicle. You won't have warped flanges or cracked heads or anything like that. You will get what you pay for. That being said, I want to say that the heads will not be cheap. I think they're like 1900 or something for the header system. Our catback costs about three grand, but the sound you get from your C8, and obviously the performance gains for the dollar spent, sounds so good it's truly transformative.
The car is a performance car, but with the original exhaust it is very quiet when you drive it. This thing really wakes it up and when you have the transmission and everything in what I call track mode, where it downshifts. really good and stays in the lowest gear for a lot longer oh my goodness that sounds so good coming to a stoplight again it's another 101 degrees outside right now here in Houston so the temps suck daddy stuff the humidity sucks , but we're driving a new

corvette

so I'm having fun, but again, my general thoughts on this system sounds like we've done several just with our cat back and it sounds great, it sounds more like an exotic sound.
You also had high flow cats. a little bit deeper tone and now when you add the headers to it you really get more of that American muscle sound and I think hopefully you'll be able to hear it through these videos that we're doing right now. Well, let's try it from a dig, we'll use launch control, so I put it in race mode in track mode and we'll go up the two steps that were from zero to over 125. It sounds so good, the dual-clutch transmission shifts phenomenal, obviously. this level of horsepower, the transmission, makes these cars so fast from zero to sixty, obviously you know I'm used to driving seven eight hundred thousand horsepower cars on a daily basis, so a car like this still seems fast to me at around 60 70.
After that I personally want more horsepower than this, but the quality, the sound with the headers and exhaust sounds so good, I guess I drive an original one in stock form to really appreciate the sound difference between the original and what we have now, to see if we can get a 0 to 60 time, I think this one was going like three three, maybe even three four, which every car is different, I know you guys see or if you look at things from YouTube, they will see something that goes eight or two. Nine, you have to think about how many cars there are and what kind of conditions they are, and getting it to 0-60 is phenomenal, especially if it's a stock car, but it's like a dyno, you know you can use it. as a tuning tool, you know, you set it as a base and then you run it and it shows you what it gained so you know if this car got a stock 3-7 or 2-9, we run it again with the additional modifications that we made and we can see if we really improved something that was a 3.0 0-60, not bad at all, okay, let's do one from a little low turn, maybe a little bit of second gear, second gear and we'll do paddle shifts. actually you know what let's try first, let's see if it turns.
I'm going 3,500 rpm, about 20 miles per hour. I definitely pivoted in the first year. It's a lot of fun to drive again. The exhaust note. Oh, it sounds so good. Yeah zero to 60. that last one I mean it's planning a little bit in first gear still two nine amazing amazing on factory tires sounds so good man I love it I love it yeah I think the American racing heads They are my favorites so far, with this setup. with the high flow cats and the cat backing definitely the best sound, the best performance, obviously, of the c8 we've done so far, actually vacuumed, um, but yeah, everything, like I said, even on the highway, already you know, not having crazy drones until just Man, when that thing slows down it sounds so good, it sounds so good, yeah, I love it, I would say this is definitely the most V8 sounding one, but the cooks had a pretty good rumble and deep, but you know I like it, it's definitely the favorite so far, like it's a one and seven-eighths header, yeah, it's just oh, it just sounds so good, I mean, that will never go out of style, like I said, just you have to drive one with a stock exhaust first to really appreciate how well it sounds once you add, you know, just our cat back or much less a full exhaust system with long pipe headers all the way to the back of the cab, but again 0 to 60 and 2.9 in 199 degree weather, now I mean it's so gnarly. put a better tire on it obviously it'll go a little faster it turns decent you know put a toyo or a nitto on it and I guarantee you'll hit seven I hope you liked this video I hope you like the build leave your comments below guys and thanks for watching
