today and come on sainsbury's you seem to like our grocery store videos and we thought while we're here in england we'll give you an idea of whatgroceries
cost
here in england and that's sainsbury's like a good middle ground yeah it's kind of a middle ground upper middle no no i was going to say upper middle class but let's not bring the class into this just shopping so josh well i've been tasked with making dinner for the family so we need to pick up a few things for that and then tomorrow josh is actually making a proper american breakfast for our british friends so we'll link that video so you can check it out well here in england it looks like their supermarket trolleys or they're all chained up and what you need is a pound coin you put the pound the coin here he clicks on it and then he'll free this little guy and then he'll get his pound back when he comes back because all he does is bring his cart, put this back on him and the pound like he pushes the pound the coin is smart but we um forgot our pound coin and we don't have one so we have two but they're in my jacket ok there's no shopping cart today, did you bring a shopping bag? well is this for people with only children as if they give them for free because I don't know I feel like it's a false step I'm very nervous to use it you're going to walk the whole world is going to look at you I know let's do that, we don't want it, okay, we don't want to upset people we just got to england ah this will work oh here we go no need to spend a pound ok first things first for me he looks like a fred meyer. i have a few clothing options all the way to heregroceries
there walmart something like that yeah yeah it has more than just food something i'm noticing doing these runs in the grocery store is that fruits and veggies are usually like right when you walk in the door , so that's what we have here and I'm pulling out my list to figure out what I need to get yeah I mean I guess it makes sense that they want to make it easy to get to and push fresh food even though it's fresh food and I still insist on this uk fresh foods come in plastic why i dont understand oh i lost ash ya apples are not you can get apples without the plastic but they also come in plastic i guess its a good thing they aren't but ok i need a jalapeno oh look you were making fun of their plastic but they are environmentally conscious healthy environment please only take the bags you need these bags are recyclable ables good job uk is a good start is a good start so let's do a little price comparison first we have a six pack apples at 25p per fruit or uh a pound fifty i think that's like this and then it's like a dollar which it's like a buck ninety but you can buy loose apples for 25p each which is like 31p so they are the same price no matter what they are and it's not by weight it's the same two 25ft an apple and I don't they do by weight I guess to make it easier to just call this grocery store I don't know if that's ok ok ok blueberries are always fun because blueberries are usually pretty expensive it's two pounds for 150 grams that's 13.33 per kilogram and then there's the colon something kilograms in a pound so we're talking almost 30 dollars per pound okay wait quick math quick math if you've been watching these videos the sufi time cient you know my math is a bit confusing sometimes i must be dyslexic i did the conversion in the exact opposite direction so instead of 37 lbs it's about eight bucks a pound which is a hell of a lot better than 30 bucks so don't freak out yet yeah thats a very common thing with the swaparoo f o josh with concurrency so i have to forgive us slightly dyslexics and josh will come back and show you guys but i wanted to share ok raspberries are exactly the same price as blueberries and they are so beautiful but they're just as red as white though no that's 225 grams so it's cheaper well they look delicious and they're also red currants in the US I don't know if you can buy them and I don't even know what they're for the brits use Do you eat the little berries? You make a jam with them. Yes, what are red currants for and if you bought them just like that. What would you do with them? I don't even have a clue. eat it, but how, yeah, like a grape, I don't know, red currant isn't something we're used to in the US, but it's something you can buy here. It's 250 2 pounds 50 for this little package and it's 150 grams. our british friends were being told how the usa flags are everywhere in the usa and everything but and that in the uk or britain there, the flag is not everywhere in the grocery store, it's literally everywhere, look at it all, all the little packaging has like the flag, does that mean grown in britain or england?
I think they're all showing that they're actually from here as a local purdue ok because I don't know my flags well enough I don't know if that's exactly the UK flag but that's the British flag or not it's not the English flag. is it the british or the union jack which i don't know ok yeah i think it's funny there's a flag everywhere talking about potatoes these are 70 these are 75 pence a kilogram which is about 93 pence a current conversion rates so you're Talking like about 50 cents a pound of potatoes that's pretty good ok I'm looking for jalapenos and they said I could probably get them but actually they said do you want canned jalapenos or the do you want fresh? it was like canned jalapenos ok but i want them fresh but i don't know if these are jalapenos they say finger chilis i don't know what finger chilis is curry ok wait wait do they or don't they have funny names for things with chili?
Can we agree that there is? funny names for things in here ok mixed chiles ok the mixed chiles are exposed in the average so I've never actually seen this before and this is so helpful it shows the heat of the chiles on the packaging it's like if this was obviously spicier than these two oh it even says what's great for um Indian curries and samosas and this was a thai curry and soup ok and this is a stew and caribbean stew no that's pretty clever very helpful because when i'm out of the store and i just see all these chili peppers i don't know which one it is yeah i don't know they're just spicy to me ok point one percent bruises yeah one last thing i need for dinner while we're here it's coriander but it says coriander don't try to get coriander in the uk it's the sa i exactly like coriander but it's called coriander huh it's something like aubergine and aubergine exactly we just walked into the meat aisle and immediately It amazes me how strange it is to me, unless the meat is out there. no doors it's not locked it's just a whole refrigerated aisle without any enclosure which is kinda funny to me it doesn't seem very energy efficient but you know meat is easily accessible i guess something else that it's kind of funny if you're from us it's that they have easy access lamb this is minced lamb it's that 260 pounds um for I don't know how
much
I can't see what it says but it's a 1040 per kilo ok let's check out chicken we have chicken breast chicken this is a kilogram so about 2.2 pounds or so and it's 5 pounds 34 that's okay one last of the meats this is ground beef which I think is pretty normal for us at least for the meals I had growing up ground beef a and beef was very common so this is a pound at 3 pounds 50 or 7 pounds per kilogram is it just me or is it really hard to do the math when you say pounds and it's in kilograms but pounds is a reference to coin and not actual weight i think it's weird what i do here ash well actually i wanted to say something about how the uk does packaged dinners i love how easy they make it and it's not that expensive like it's a bit more expensive than just buying the meat you didn't like they already added stuff but they make it so easy like this little chicken breast here it already has the butter and all the spices all you have to do is push it in the oven and let it cook for 60 minutes um and that's four pound 25 for this pretty big piece of chicken i love all these options it's not just like one kind of thing but you can get so many different flavors and different kinds of meals if you want you're not like a very good cook I think this is the best there is, yes and for us who often don't have all the ingredients we need while traveling, we can still get something that is super tasty yes something homemade but easy to make cer yeah we normally have salt yeah olive oil and pepper and if we do chicken literally what's in our chicken is salt olive oil and pepper ok you do it right and it's delicious ok ya that we compare pizzas, i don't know why i did it in norway. but we look at the pizzas and this one here is three pounds um there's a very plain two pound one down there I don't know it's more or less the same price I feel like it's Norway and I might be wrong on the exact price but it's near enough. So you know, a cheap little pizza for not too
much
. My only advice when you go grocery shopping is that you should bundle up because it's very cold in here. All these refrigerators are completely open. They are like four open refrigeration aisles. My hands are frozen. i'm really pinching looking at the milk i think it's already interesting for me as an american to come here looking at the shapes and size of all the containers so this is a little over a liter right kinda funny to me um this is about two liters a little more than I'm now saying because one thing I've already found interesting is that they don't actually measure in liters they measure them all in pints so if we had really big milk in the US we could get like a gallon or two gallons and if we got a small one it would be measured in pints but all of these even the big ones are measured in pints so this is four pints right and this one oh no that's a where it's too big here is a large one which is eight pints of milk and it seems to be semi-skimmed and skimmed milk is the most popular semi-skimmed is uh let's see 44p per liter which is interesting because I price it per liter and so this is 48.4p per liter pa For the milk to be right That's a pound ten and this is also an interesting pound ten okay so I'm in the canning area.I have a few things I need to get in this area, but has anyone seen water peeled potatoes in a can? I've never seen those potatoes on hand and it's so fun to see what people put in a can um, I don't know what piece of pudding it is but that sounds gross actually we are in a country where we can read what the ingredients are oh my gosh, how cool is that, right? And it says it's yellow split peas in water and salt with turmeric flavored paprika extract oh basically some sort of thing someone would do but can't yeah it's like a little pea delight and then all the rest peas look like mushy peas oh wow yeah what a great brand i bet it just comes out right i'm in the aisle of oil vinegar eggs and recipe sauces i don't know what recipe sauces it is but there you go uh let's take a look at the eggs we have 12 free range british eggs these are sainsbury's so normally branded eggs or local brand will be cheapest and that's 2 pound 15 or 17.9p per egg expect 17.9p oh oh 17 17.9 pence I was thinking that was £17 nine pence well that almost throws me off completely but then let's take a very quick look at a slightly different mark.
I thought it still had spots on it but this is the organic one and it's £3.70 for the same amount of eggs but organic eggs and only because we're in England. I have to show you how much tea there is. There is also coffee, but forget that it is not even real coffee. Everything is instant. We have red tags pg tips. Yorkshire tea. these cheap things are two pounds for 160 tea bags thats such a great price ok pg boobs we are going up a little more three pound 50 for 162 dollars why 160 yorkshire 450 pounds 4 pounds 50 for 160 ok i got what to know why 160 tea bags why specs If it's 160 why not 150?
Do you know an easily divisible number let me know in the comments please and since Ashley mentioned I'm making pancakes let's take a look at the flower because I'm going to make it from scratch so it's £136 per kilogram and I'm going to put the math on the screen because I'm not even going to try that anymore but that doesn't seem so bad ok looking at our options for maple syrup we're up to six pounds for a nice big one says pure canadian so I guess than real canadian maple syrup and this is theclark's pure canadian maple syrup in a less pretentious bottle and 3 quid 50 or 194 for 100 mils i think that's what i'll get this one is cheaper it weighs two quid and says korub fruit blended maple syrup yep i don't want the mix i want the weird maple but since i'm making pancakes i get what they call striped bacon and this is like our american bacon and it's 13lbs 64 per kilogram and this package is 3lbs an even number i feel like one of the dumbest things we find at the grocery store is that a lot of the chips actually come as individual bags.
This giant bag has a bunch of little guys like 12 little bags in it but it's not just these chips they're like all the doritos of potato chips and they're not all these big bags like a regular bag like this six baby bags inside of this normal bag and you have to open all these individual bags you said it was silly and I and I agree that in terms of packaging it's wasteful but I think the intention is that you don't just eat a whole bag of chips, which is nice and at the same time leave me alone i want to eat the whole bag and chips but it probably came in handy for moms and school lunches that's true but like literal ly every option is that that's a pack of six six six packs six packs all of them the full cooler except the smaller bags that are not portioned can you get smaller bags that are not portioned yes , very interesting, very different from the US where you can get a monster sized bag and eat them all in one go.
Weight Jokes in the US There are so many delicious gummies in here but one of them is really weird and not something we have in the US they turn into gummies but this whole aisle is full of chocolate and gummies, and here they have cadbury, which is super fun because even like the cadbury eggs that the kids like to crack open, oh yeah, we can't get them in the usa, but here you can get them. them at the grocery store which is so fun and cool oh mmm let's see im on a mission to find the cadbury eggs yeah after you say oh no it's cadbury it's kinder oh kinder eggs that's why i was so confused i was like uh catberry it's something we have kinder egg there's a surprise inside the kids love these things but they're banned in the usa i think i think because of the choking hazard or something i don't know you can't get them in the usa but here we can getting them are going to do well we are back in the house we have almost everything we need um you can see all the things that we have is a variety of things that we are going to use for dinners for breakfasts and also for breakfast because we have things of oatmeal and pancakes um total was in pounds 33 54 which is about 41.75 iconic changes i was actually thinking that's pretty good yeah i know i thought that was pretty good too they are some things the most expensive thing we bought was maple syrup coming in at I think three quid 50. how much was tylenol or ibuprofen? oh really cheap actually ok so we also got tylenol and i'm acting that's in that build too yeah so what did we really get for that um we have some beans we have some eggs w We have some striped bacon yeah was that cilantro in the peppers and avocados?
Avocados are pretty expensive actually limes yeah okay we have peanut butter but it's weird peanut butter. how's it going it says high protein yeah um we got some syrup we got some canned stuff um corn and tomatoes and then Josh is also making pancakes like we said so we needed some flour um here it's pretty common to have uh one yourself. -just flour and that's a quarter like I don't know if I've used it so far that you can get in the states. I feel like we sell all purpose flour for the most part if we saw flour yeah this that wasn't included as well and I had to buy baking powder regular flour and that was a little bit harder to find because self raising flour was the main one yeah , so in the US if you want plain flour and then you'd get all purpose flour yeah I guess I have some quinoa which is what we're going to use for dinner tonight we could I don't know if the fresh sour cream was sour cream so let us know in the comments below if we got it right or what you would use this for but I'm pretty sure this is sour cream and then we have some taco seasoning even though we're a long, long way from mexico , this was easily found in the hispanic section i didn't see that section so i don't know seasoning for fajitas and they had tacos everything you need for taco tuesday and then we have some fries for dinner tonight but one thing i want Asking is if they are made from corn like the tortilla style, are they still fries or are they fries now? because i feel like these have to be fries it looks like it's tortillas like me i can understand fries are crispy but these are tortillas ok it doesn't say fries or crispy i think that's controversial because it doesn't say tortillas either, okay, their own version and lastly we got some oatmeal. um yes oatmeal or I don't know what they call me Porridge I think the porridge is what they call Scottish whole rolled oats so I want to mention that being in an English speaking country and all the ingredients are in English it's much less overwhelming than being in a grocery store where nothing is in your language you basically just figure out what things are yeah so yesterday was very very different to our grocery stores normally we would have refrigerators so closed but as if It was freezing cold like you saw so yeah it was a fun experience but the whole store was really huge and I think that was the main takeaway for us is that that store was huge and that probably has to do with the fact that we're in super mario western which is not in a city center like exactly it's not like it's not London so it's not going to be that tight for space they have a lot of space and wanted to mention we're in a local area, so these prices that we show you are local prices, they are not prices that you can find that are increased in the city center, yes, or like a tourist area or something, so these are the actual prices of The stuff, yeah, so let us know if any of these prices surprised you or anything. of the packaging you were surprised like all the um the flags everywhere or if you have likes if you are from here and have some information for us maybe we missed something let us know below in the comments ok wayfam hope I encouraged you to get out and travel today and shopping when you're traveling is a fun thing to do we'll see that in the next video bye a big thank you to all our sponsors who helped make this video possible if you want to follow more go to instagram way away mag don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already you have and don't forget to watch our second channel much more if you want to see much more of us
