Apr 23, 2020
What's up everyone, welcome back to my channel. It's been a minute since I filmed. We just returned from Bora Bora. I am so sun damaged and sunburned. I mentioned in a previous video that I have discoloration on my face and everyone is rolling. They look at me and say no, now I'm sunburned, which is really scary because I'm never in the sun, but when you're in Bora Bora, listen, we swam with manta rays and sharks, we were going parasailing, so I was really in the sun a lot and me, Nathan and Manny, well, Nathan doesn't wear

makeup

, but Manny and I didn't get glammed up for a week and a half, so my skin is like I had a little

makeup

on.

, just like a little touch of eyeshadow here. I was very nervous and scared about it. I don't know what drew me to makeup. I just loved not looking at magazines and I loved looking. My mom in the morning transformed from a normal girl to a glamazon and my mom had a huge queue of makeup in her bathroom full of drawers and I remember going in there one day and separating them all and picking out eyeshadows and glitters and she had little pigments that she had collected years and years ago and it was fun to create them.

For me it was when I really started, I was in eleventh grade and I remember one day I was looking at rock magazines and someone had no eyebrows and I thought, "Oh my God, you can do so much more with your makeup, now my real eyebrows here." Let's just go down, Member Lane.

I also found a seventh grade photo. You guys are so up there. There's baby Jeffery. Seventh grade. Like the same nose girl. Nothing has changed here, so if I wrinkle my face like this, you see, this is where my real girlish eyebrows were supposed to be, that's too low, where am I going to put my eyeshadow, so the eyebrows were too come down for me? I remember one day I found one of my grandfather's Mach3 razor blades and I just swung it and they were gone. and I was like, "Oh my god, I could have so much more space to play now, when my grandma saw me, she almost had a stroke right then and there and she was horrified, just like you look like a fucking alien, this is where it gets." ". crazy, I had no idea how to draw an eyebrow back then, I put on some crazy divine black eyeliner and then I did these really dark smokey eyes and a crazy blush like contouring didn't exist back then, contouring and the lights were only to really corrective.

Makeup now, obviously, is a big trend and everyone does it, but ten years ago people didn't do

high

lights and they didn't do contouring unless you're like an A-list celebrity or you're going to a red carpet, normal people. I don't do any of that, so I'm also a self-taught makeup artist, so high school was when I really became obsessed with being a makeup artist, that was my goal, that's what I wanted to be when I grew up, so I started practicing a lot on myself. myself at home and then I went on to do a lot of girls' makeup for proms and school dances and that kind of stuff, so I got to play with everyone, but of course, you yourself are your best canvas to play with.
So at first it was very what we call goth back then very dark black lipstick dark pink lipstick dark eyes crazy eyebrows so I think this label is very fun and things that are going to bring me back now a lot of the makeup that Lo What I was using back then was Mac. I was a big Mac user and I remember when Mac was the most popular brand, they were so cutting edge and ten years ago that was it, so I would convince my grandmother to take me to the MAC store in the shopping center. to South Coast Plaza Mac, if there's someone watching who works there.
I used to shop there all the time and I remember when the old location was on the other side of the mall and now things are changing, everything is growing and changing but oh well. I get asked a lot what the hell you were like in high school now if you google there are some pictures so I'll show you real pictures, the yearbook photo that I've seen floating around all over Instagram and Google. from my high school I scanned the scene so let's show reality so I went to Pacifica High School now this is my 12th grade yearbook I pulled it out of the archives and no one seems really funny to me when I open the pages I look at my one of my best friends in high school with me a crazy letter girl.
I've been going by Jeffrey Star since 10th grade and I also had my name legally changed, I think in 2007, so I've been Jeffrey Star for a long time, okay? you can see this says older favorites and look who won best hair down here yeah this girl and I Cassie had hair down to our butts so of course they chose the girls long hair and then my crazy butt . Actually, I can't believe everyone. voted for me and I won best hair, which was really fun back then because the talk about your books is that you film all of these at the beginning of the year, so literally a month after this I dyed my hair with a cut intense pink.
He got a mohawk and the rest is history, so in this yearbook I have crazy spiked red-orange fans who had these long black bangs that I dyed black. My real hair color is this sandy brown and it's crazy, it's like that. It's going down memory lane, look at that look on baby Jeffery with those six inch gothic boots, a long jacket with little nylon stockings and that hair, honey, so I guess today we're just going to talk about my techniques in high school, what I used and Some of the products I had to go back to Mac today and buy them because I didn't even have them anymore, but this is going to be fun, so if you want to see how I used to do makeup in high school and just learn. about all this craziness and then keep looking for there to be no primers in high school, that never really existed, but Mac has this thing called strobe cream that I know people still use to this day, which I find amazing, it really works.
I think that's why this thing has kind of a lightbulb moment now, chew it, let's expel some, oh my gosh, it's crazy how it smells, it can take you so far, it has a pearly feel to it. when you're not rubbing it on your face, something like this glow, the glow from within that we all crave now and I would just rub this all over my face and neck and then put makeup on my face. I'm going to say this a lot 10 years ago we didn't have what was going to happen. I think a lot about this video, so I look back and I wore a mask.
If you guys think I wear a lot of makeup now, oh my gosh. Mac has these little bottles called studio finish concealer, so to use this product I would take my Mac Studio Fix, which has very full coverage, I would open the powder and underneath there is a sponge, so I would take this sponge and I would take this. concealer and I would use this as a foundation guys so my whole face was completely covered with this concealer I would scrape a lot and then I would take the sponge oh my gosh you know it's crazy this fills up now and it would literally cover my entire face . that was, oh my god, no foundation, my pores are like they're coming out of here now.
I always took concealer and put it on all my eyelids. This is like my foundation back then and this is way before I had laser hair removal so this full coverage concealer definitely covered stubble and Mack has a bigger version called just full coverage foundation and of course, back then you know I still did my damn Nick. He was in a puny hole back then and I'm not anymore. To set this I didn't use any setting powder, anything like that, but I did use Mac Studio Fix, so I would take this like I do nowadays and literally cover my entire face and neck with this over the concealer and I mentioned this brush, I think once before, but I have an old Mac brush that I used to use in high school.
I used to literally use this same one. They discontinued it a long time ago. Look at the bristles like they're falling apart. It is the brush for 6 year old Mac. I think they might have one of these on eBay and then I would take this one guys and brush it and pack it and literally this lasted all day like everything I did for the face. makeup there was no setting spray I had not highlighted under the eyes that was like a few years later after I did my face makeup I did my eyebrows now this is where it's scary is that I literally used a Mac smolder eye pencil I use this a lot in tutorials previous to do under eyes as smoky and as smudge, so why did I use this for brows?
I have no idea about you, but I'm afraid. I mean, this whole video is about flashbacks and how to do them. We had fun so let's dive in, oh my god, I went really high, girl, girl, girl, okay, let's go for it guys. I made them so fine that I would like to kill a small town. It would go too far and then cut. It's like, I'm trying to recreate this image of you guys and this is scary and then I would take it all the way to my hairline, so literally that was my forehead and I thought I was too you guys, I thought in 12th grade I'd better They will work. and just like you back then, these were always unequal, nowadays you may look like twins most of the time, you're still sisters, but back then, this is what you had, you had little commas back then, neither I can't even believe this is real. ah Nastasia please don't kill me move on you guys for the eyeshadow are you ready for this oh my god I wore Mac eyeshadows day and night this was my thing and in fact my rebuttal is today and I'm like ten years later.
Mac, you still have all the damn colors, so I'd go with this vellum color. All my old Mac lovers will know that they no longer make that shade, unfortunately it was very pretty, but I have one that is very similar and is called gesso. It's like a matte white shade now I would put it from the eyebrow to the lid, there were no primers back then there was nothing like that, so I use my little Mac, five, which I still use to this day and that's it. I would take this and skip the lid. to shock everyone watching I'm also afraid I'm not a shady hoe but these are just as pigmented as they used to be because they don't look as white as I remember now obviously ten years ago there might be different ingredients that don't.
You know what the heck, but this eyeshadow doesn't look as pigmented as before. Okay guys, I'm mixing to fill, look at that, yeah, okay, the base color has gone down. I'm killing everyone, kidding. Okay, let's move on, another Mac eye shadow, this was called frozen pee, I would take this and before I knew highlighting would become a worldwide phenomenon, I was highlighting you guys all the time back then and using my brush Mac one six eight and literally just pick it up. and if you look back at all my old photos, I always had this crazy shine here and people would say you look really plastic and it was this guy and I would take this and it would literally go up to my forehead. and it had gone down and contouring wasn't something anyone in high school contoured now babies are contouring and it's scary there was no YouTube back then there were no tutorials there was nothing but some Kevyn Aucoin books and a dream honey oh my god , it's like a flashback, man.
I would take this to where my me and I will take it down like I'm going crazy. It's a lot of fun compared to today's powders and highlighters. This doesn't seem as blinding as before. Okay so that's how I used this shadow it was like a big highlight and then before I even did the eyes you guys wouldn't really know what I did oh my god kill me now I used some Mac 129 yeah okay 129 I used this blush and you know, remember that when contouring there was no contour. I would take this Mac Dolly blush mix and I would take it and take it and take it and take it and then that's what I did, voila, this blush was my contour them like I took the blush from the apples of my cheeks all the way back like what's up Stephen King is what the CEO tea girl now I would take it and turn it up to the top girl mm-hmm and I would really come in like we used to do real heavy stuff in Orange County, that's how I did it, so the blush it merged with my fuse, so to speak, and that's what we did.
Okay, the blush is complete, the cheeks are finished, now listen to the eyes. This is where it gets crazy guys, let's dive into the eyes. I would use two shades just very gothic, very smoky and it's the MAC Cosmetics printed eyeshadow which is like a matte gray and then the famous charcoal black eyeshadow from Mac, this used to be the blackest eyeshadow on the market. These two were like a girl.I was hitting the pan every hour, so what would I do with the same pencil I used for my eyebrows? Oh my god, I can't admit this.
I would take it and I would like to wear it. My whole eyelid was almost like my base and I would take it and just drag it along my lash line and create like a come on so I would just do that kind of moment and then start dragging it up and if it didn't appear like I wanted it, I would put a lighter on it or I would just smear the black all over it. No, obviously this is going to look really ugly before it starts to look pretty, which doesn't look like anything. cute, but you guys get it and that was it and then I would go over this liner and start blending and then I would take a little blending brush and I would dip it into the actual black shadow.
It's going to hold these two here real quick like barely there and then I went different to print this matte gray and this would be my best friend to just create that little gradient. so I would go in with a brush and start applying buffer and make it really dramatic looking back. I definitely went crazy and that's how I mixed and now I would definitely smoke oh well I'm not my version of smoking. Back then, if it was under, I was a raccoon back then, so I would take the same burning eye pencil BAM and just drag it up to my waterline, which is actually what I still do to this day and then I just fade away.
Find out what the eyeliner is, it's perfect for that, it's definitely not good for the eyebrows, but hey, back then you did what you could and then I would dive into the same black grain, let's go with charcoal, and I didn't think I had done much the degree at that time. but I definitely dipped into the black and went in and just smeared the bottom until I looked like a raccoon okay we're smoky at the end but no less important. I would dip back in with a little Packer brush into that gray and then do it.
I brushed it around the edges because I felt like I really had a seamless airbrush brush back then, all good now for mascara. I don't even remember what kind of mascara I used back then. I sat there and I'm like grabbing my memory and I don't really remember, so I think for the mascara I definitely used some kind of drugstore because I was definitely stealing makeup from Rite Aid back then, when I didn't have money, I would just steal foundation, mascara and eye pencils all the time, which I don't recommend doing anymore and stealing is horrible but hey, when you're broke who wants to look good, I did what I had to do, so I'm just going to apply a little black mascara on these lashes , now the horrible thing about high school. is that I never wore falsies which when you look back makes the makeup look even crazier and the cool thing about this look is that when you were applying mascara and if you hit the wand anywhere and it doesn't matter because your eyes are blacks, then BAM and same thing for underneath, we are almost done with this look, surprisingly, how much twisting was that easy, okay, to finish this look there were no lashes, there were no extra highlights, there was no contour, there wasn't even a finishing spray which is horrible so all I had to do was put on lipstick.
Now I loved black, red or pink lipstick. That was it when I started 12th grade. I was a little hesitant to wear full makeup so I would like a Then a few months later I got over it and discovered a pink Novoa lipstick from Mac, OMG I must have gone through like 20 tubes of this . I used it in the morning, during lunch and dinner, and let's put it mmm-hmm, there's Jeffery. classic pink oh my god you better work overdraw alright guys so after putting on my lipstick I was almost done of course my 12th grade year's high school football team couldn't be here to finish the setting spray, you know, with your Come, but you know we just have to do what we have to do, plus this look is completely finished.
I'm ready to rock the volleyball court. Okay guys, this is the final look of how I used to do my makeup in high school. I look in the mirror like you know what's not so bad now, they're really extreme on me of course, over the years I've changed them from pink to purple, green to taupe and I've definitely toned them down to thicken them . I made better arcs, but hey, we all have to start from somewhere, so if you were someone in high school who looked crazy or someone who never wore makeup and now you love it, I think that's awesome.
I think that change is, of course, very necessary. We are all evolving. As makeup artists and as people, I mean, this is like a trip down memory lane. I'm looking in the viewfinder like okay girl I might have to revisit this, just blush and no contour. I mean, it's really harsh, but oh well. that's how I used it, but I hope you had a lot of fun watching this. I had a great time doing this, it's definitely fun to look at all these old photos, laugh and just appreciate where we come from because the world is real, so as always, thank you all so much for watching and please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already you have done it, are you afraid?
