How GOOD was Fedor Emelianenko Actually?May 10, 2020
Fedor Emelianenko is a god of MMA, the heavyweight who was undefeated from 2001 to 2009 has built one of the most impressive records in the sport, but he built that legacy on the pride of the Japanese fighting promotion and when he came to the US. The USA didn't find the same results as before so my question is how
goodwas Fator Emelianenko
actuallyguys it's Kion and today I want to talk about Fedor Emelianenko a fighter many consider the greatest of all time , but Fader's career happened during a time when MMA wasn't mainstream like it is today and to my surprise some people don't know who phaidor is so let's take a look at Fedor Emelianenko's career and really decide how
goodhe really was and what his legacy is in the sport first.

emelianenkojudo specialists started his MMA career in 2000 where he would go 3 and OH in Japanese combat sports promo rings, he was 22 in his debut against Martin Lazarov Fedor would land the Russian left hook aka throwing hook which would stun Lazaro while in the clinch Vader tried to throw Martin but didn't miss and ended up in the background after a little action on the ground, the referee got up from the fight and the fader started throwing bombs that had Lazarov in all sorts from problems. in the first round of his second fight with LaVon like lava, Fedor won the fight via rear-naked choke after putting in a commanding performance all around, fader threw every punch with ill intent and was even scarier when he did it running towards his opponent, his judo and Samba were effective due to his great strength in his third fight against Arroyo Takada, he did not even take damage, he launched a combo that he immediately put to cut him and ended the fight in December of that year, Fedor entered the Rings King of Kings tournament, he fought Ricardo Arona in the first round and the fight was evenly contested with Fedor looking very strong on his feet. when they miss and ricardo climbs on top vader was able to shake him off and put himself in top position fader would go on in the third round and take home the second round unanimous decision the same night phaidor fought tsuyoshi kohsaka masako would throw a right hand that would miss, but this cause is an elbow to hit fader in the same place where he received the cut in his previous fight against Ricardo, the fight was stopped by the doc. tors 17 seconds into the fight that also handed Fedor his first career loss after this fight, fader would pick up a win against me hail as he submitted him via rear naked choke early in the first round , his next five fights were part of the rings' openweight title tournament in the first round he beat keri shull with armbar in round 2 Fedor fought and notto babalu Sobral the fight was pretty close and both men were able to secure takedowns and submission attempts and no head shots allowed on the ground opponents leading to punches landing to the body instead on the same night, Fader was going to fight Bobby Hoffman for the heavyweight championship , but Bobby refused saying he had a shoulder injury and couldn't fight. decision win against babalu Fedor would fight Russia Anagha Sawa the same thing would happen in this fight phaedra would take down russia try submissions and ma maintain a dominant position that gave him the unanimous decision win in the semifinals he fought against Lee, although in this fight Fedor landed a launch hook that helped him secure the takedown.
I have to say that most of these fights would have been over much sooner if a door was allowed to hit his head when he was on the ground, but despite that he was still able to lock the guillotine choke and the tournament final Fedor would fight Chris Hayes. Minh would win the fight on the first standing after a right hand drop on Chris which forced the referee to stop the fight. Fader won the tournament and would later join Pride, which was another Japanese fighting promotion that allowed head punches and even soccer kicks and Fedor took advantage of that in his debut against Semmy Schilt.
Fader would go for the takedown and land heavy punches from above to earn the unanimous decision win after this fight. Fedor fought Heath Herring, who was the favorite going into the fight. t but the narrative would change when Fedor would take the fight on the ground with ease and use the earth from him and punch to destroy Harry's face the whole round was a beatdown and when it was finally over the medic stopped the fight. this made Phaedra the number one contender to fight for the heavyweight championship against champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, although Nogueira was the scared or impressed favorite for dominating the fight after landing a right hand that rocked Nogueira.
Vader would continue to apply pressure from above throwing some of the ground and the nastiest pound I've ever seen Nogueira would attempt submissions from behind but would be unsuccessful when the fight was on Nogueira would attempt takedowns but fate would either reverse them when called the final bell. rung it was obvious that a gate was the victor that night, Fader became the pride heavyweight champion, his first fight after this win was back with rings against Eddie DJ's valor veikkaus since the promotion didn't allow headshots to the grounded opponent, it really showed how big the ground and pound component was in Fedor's game after controlling the fight in the first round, Fedor would finish him off in the second. with a Kimura on Pride, Fedor fought Kazuyuki Fujita and where Fader was a heavy favourite, even the announcers were saying that Fujita's only hope was to take down phaidor as he didn't have much finishing power on his feet but Fujita was able to land a right hand. to the temple that stunned
fedora and was the biggest problem we saw go away or go in at that point the fight took to the ground but fader was able to survive and even though he was able to get back up he was still very wobbly. the feet from him, but that's all the chance he needed because Fader landed a kick to the liver and the one-two that dropped Fujita Fader immediately secured the rear bare choke.
It was impressive considering the amount of adversity Fader was able to overcome. Before getting the finish, Phaedrus' next fight was against Gary Goodridge and it was a one-sided beatdown. Fedor threw heavy punches from the start. He was able to secure the takedown and follow up with punches and kicks from above. This was on Pride. kicking the opponent back to the ground was legal and looked even more brutal with the power phaidor had behind them after this win New Year's Eve and was competing with a k1 kickboxing card the fight was another dominating performance from Fader, who knocked Godom down several times before finishing him on the ground.
Fedor returned to Pride to fight former UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark Coleman early on Fight Mark was able to secure top position and quickly grabbed Fodor's back and attempted a rare naked choke and although phaidor came out and attempted the guillotine, they shot him down again, but what? Ile on his back the fader secured the armbar and forced Coleman past Phaedrus. The next opponent was Kevin Randleman, the former UFC heavyweight champion, he had just come off of a yen knockout upset of Miracle Croco and the momentum continued against phaidor one. randleman went down early what was even more concerning was when phaidor got back up but randleman suplex phaidor went back down and phaidor landed on his neck but he was fine and from there fader was able to work on side control where he blocked the kimura on aug 15th 2004 phaidor fought twice in the same night at the Pride Grand Prix, his first fight was against neowa Ogawa, the fight went very fast after phaidor pounced with punches forcing Ogawa to come in for the takedown. fader once again fought antonio rodrigo nogueira i just want to say to anyone who has never seen a fade or walk out look at the one i had for this fight because it was absolutely chilling in a good way of course the fight was mostly on the ground with fader controlling the top position fader would continue to throw punches from above until his head collided with Nogueira's, causing a deep gash to Phaedrus' head which eventually caused doctors to stop the fight the result was a null due to a headbutt accidental but there was an unfortunate ending to the fight but pride would set the rubber duel and the two fought again four months later in this fight fader kept him on his feet and was able to take his shots while defending Nogueira's takedowns when phaidor took the lead first position, effectively landing shots and avoiding Nogueira's fatal submission attempts continued the damage on the stand-up throughout the fight and this would give Fader the unanimous decision win, his next fight was against the first man to beat him so Yoshi Cassata, but this time, Fader was able to control the fight by using his pressure and selecting his shots the fight ended with a nice combo that put Osaka down allowing Fader to bench him his only loss his next fight was against Mirko Cro Cop and this was a fight that was long in the making as that Cro Cop was considered one of the best heavyweights.
In the world at the time and going into the phaidor fight, Cro Cop was riding a seven fight winning streak with six of those wins ending in less than four minutes, both men were able to connect with punches from him. Mirko was successful landing his powerful kicks where he kicked Vader to the midsection and landed a few shots to the liver but Fader was able to take the fight to the ground several times where he had the upper hand and after three rounds phaidor won via unanimous decision and he retained his championship belt. Phaedrus's next fight was against Zulus II.
I know who he took down real quick and eventually the ref would stop the fight after raining down some heavy punches from the top fader. I went on to fight Mark Coleman again and this figure. it was very similar to the first mark she would attempt a couple of takedowns but was unsuccessful, this would give Phaedra a chance to connect with foot strikes and the fight quickly began to turn into a beatdown. Coleman was desperately trying to secure a takedown the entire fight and when he finally did phaidor locked in the armbar and Coleman was forced to tap I want to take this moment to shine a light on phaidor inside the cage she was a scary destroyer but outside Some of her was kind and humble and she proved that in this post-fight interview with Coleman, that she was trying to comfort her young daughters who were terrified of what they had just seen, but Phaedra was sport about it and very friendly with her.
Mark and his daughters and even if he knocked someone out spectacularly he wouldn't celebrate like most people would still be common if his opponent was wrong he would make sure they're okay anyway Fader went on to fight Mark Hunt at the end of 2006, Mark Hunt was able to escape an attempted arm bar and even put Fedor himself down. Fader almost got blocked by an American, but he was able to wriggle out and get back on his feet from there. What Mark Hunt would draw on for this fight also ended up being Phaedra's last fight with pride before the UFC bought her out, but negotiations between the UFC and Phaedra's management team, m1 global, became the main barrier for phaidor to fight. for the promotion. phaidor would fight Matt Lindland and the brush in a bulldog fight event mat were able to open a cut over Phaedra's left eye, regardless of which fader could punch, throwing Linlin onto the mat after heading into Mt.
Fredo secured the arm. hong-man choi in japan this is one of phaedrus' most famous fights because he was so much smaller than seven footer - choi fader would try to take him down but he was immediately knocked down h himself due to choi's size but on the bottom he would try an armbar, but Joy was able to get out. Phaidor tried to take him down with his left onto his back and then he would go for the armbar again, but this time he blocked it hard. and this forced hong-man choi to tap out after this fight Fader signed with USA MMA promotion woe where he made his debut against former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia this was a great moment for Fedor as it was the first time he would be fighting in the US wrestling promotion and this translated to tougher competition and he had that in Tim Sylvia who was the number four heavyweight in the world where the fight ended quickly after Fader drove him with punches before finishing him on the ground with a chokeholdBare Butt This victory earned him the AMA Heavyweight Championship after this fight.
Fredo fought former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski in the first three minutes of the fight. Arlovski was quick with his attacks and was indeed landing. On his shots, the momentum was definitely shining to Andrei's side, but when Andrei attempted a flying knee, Vader landed a right hand that knocked out our Loski after this title defense affliction disbanded as a company and although there was much discussion from UFC president Dana White about signing Fedor and bringing him to the UFC to fight champion Brock Lesnar, the two sides couldn't make a deal for Fader to end up signing with Strikeforce and he made his debut in November 2009 against the undefeated Brett Rogers in the first round.
Fader was able to take Brett down and land a few punches, but Bret reversed the fade or after a Kimura try from there, Rodgers. he landed some heavy punches off the top before phaidor attempted an armbar but in round two Fedor landed a beautiful right hand that dropped Bret phaidor ended the fight on top with punches before the ref took him out after this fight Fader went on to fight for Brie, in Tomb Raider, she was considered the favorite for this fight, as she was in most of her fights, and the fight itself had that tendency when phaidor landed a combo that went down very early, he would rush in to try and finish Fabrizio off. the ground and as he did when doing with the attempt to block his arm, but a fatal push and he continued to run with punches, but vert doom song, his legs came up again and this time he blocked the triangle ch Oke, that forced Phaidor to beat if post fight interview Fedor apologized for losing and thanked God for what happened it was Phaedra's first loss in 10 years making this one of the biggest upsets in MMA people saw this loss as a casual bad decision. made by Fedor or not being able to be a top wrestler in the USA wrestling promotion after this loss phaidor fought Antonio Bigfoot Silva and the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix quarterfinals the fight started with phaidor being the aggressor and running and swinging wildly but because he was close Bigfoot was able to counter effectively at one point Fader almost secures a guillotine choke and a Kimura but Bigfoot was able to survive and fade or look tired Silva will take the opportunity to start being the aggressor responding with his own punches in the second round, Silva immediately dropped Fedor and gave him an absolute beating.
Bigfoot was striking from above and this landed him in a rear naked choke. attempt but even as fader escaped Silva took the mountains raining down hammer fists on his face this continued until the end of the round phaidor's I was busted and this force for the doctor to stop the fight this was fade or a second loss followed and in the post-fight interview, he said that maybe it was time to retire due to injuries and aging, but he returned in July 2011 to fight former welterweight and middleweight champion Dan Henderson, who was also the champion. light heavyweight for the promotion at the time. point phaedra started to push early and was able to land punches, but Henderson retaliated and was also able to connect with a minute left in the round.
Vader landed an overhand right that hurt Dan phaedra. I tried to end a fight with heavy ground and punch, but Henderson. he was able to reverse phaidor and land a right hand that landed on his chin and dissin continued throwing punches until Herb Dean stopped the fight and it was the f The first TKO loss of Phaedrus' career, some say the fight ended. stopped early or that the last shot Stan landed was to the back of Fader's head, regardless of Fader later saying that all three losses were due to changes in his family affecting him and mistakes. in his preparations but he really believed he could have won those three fights now after these fights in Strikeforce Vader returned to Russia and Japan to get wins against Jeff Monson Satoshi Ishii and Pedro Hisle after the fight with Pedro Rizzo Fredo Irwin announced his retirement of the sport, but three years later in 2015, phaidor returned to fight Singh JD Poole, he would beat him in the first round with punches, Federer then won a controversial fight against Fabio Maldonado and where many people believed the fight would be a draw Fader was in talks to re-sign with the UFC, but instead signed with Bellator and made his debut against Matt Mitrione, who knocked him out in a minute.
Nine and 14 seconds into the first round, Fedor entered the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix and reached the final after knocking out Frank Mir and Chael Sonnen in the first and second round respectively, but would lose fatally in the final to Ryan. Bader by knockout at 35 seconds. in the first round, Phaedra's most recent win was a TKO win against Rampage Jackson in 2019. I think he'll probably fight again, but at this point, Fader isn't in the prime of his career anymore and that's okay. because fighters get old and they just aren't the same as they used to be and after a long run at the top of the heavyweight division that was filled with absolute killers it would surely fade away or too at this point considering all that it happened how good was Fator
actuallynow i know i said cain velasquez was the greatest of all time and some of you corrected me.
I bet you could say he was the best but not the best because of his resume and I agree with that and therefore I would say Fatal was the greatest heavyweight of all time and I know there is a Miocic in the lineup as well. conversation, as he is the current holder of the most title defenses in UFC heavyweight history, but going undefeated for 10 years as a heavyweight is a whole other thing. level of greatness and I get it maybe the level of competition wasn't the best at times but still he beat some of the biggest legends in the sport in Minotauro Nogueira Mirko Cro Cop Mark Hunt Tim Sylvia and the list is long enough for me.
Confidently give this title to phaidor and if you haven't seen some of these fights I recommend you do because I truly believe he was ahead of his time. judo was unlike any we've ever seen that heavyweight and when mixed with that his superhuman strength he was able to take down his opponents and the fader was unbelievably fast for a heavyweight and that would lead to constant reassuring p which made his opponents to cave in his running game was also spectacular as he had some of the most vicious ground in pounds and was never afraid to attempt a submission on top of all that he is a very humble person and you wouldn't expect that. that from a man who was an absolute destroyer, so yes, Fedor Emelianenko was very good, but more importantly, he was legendary.
