How Fast Is The Hellcat REDEYE?

Feb 27, 2020
Hi everyone, I'm Brenton with Tuning and Performance and today we're going to talk a little more specifically about a red eye Dodge Hellcat. We get a lot of questions asking if they can make a video about a red eye. Can you tell us a little? about that so today we're going to cover what is a dodge

hellcat

red eye how much does a red eye cost how much power does a red eye have how

fast

is a red eye tell us a little about a

hellcat

vs a red eye tell us a little about a demon versus red eyes, so we'll just go over a few things about this specific car, so what is a red eye Dodge Hellcat?

What it basically is is a Dodge Challenger Hellcat with a diamond drivetrain, so the red eye name basically came from where they said the Hellcat was possessed by the devil. The Hellcat emblem has a red eye. It's a bit of a reproduction, so the Hellcat came with an engine that was an orange engine block. Signature orange valve covers. Hemi colors and when the demon came out, the engine block was red, the valve covers were red, kind of a significant red demon, so what they did in the red eye uses the entire powertrain of the demon, so the demon engine blower transmits the full nine yards, but the engine block is black and the valve covers are black and on the Hellcat emblem on the fender, the Hellcat eyeball is red, sort of a play on the accents reds on the demon, so the demon was a limited production vehicle introduced in 2018. it was a challenger, it was a variant of the regular Hellcat, it was the first challenger to debut and a widebody configuration looked very similar, but it was an endurance specific vehicle, so the Hellcat was a more versatile vehicle and still kind of like a typical, you know, a typical straight line muscle car, but it wasn't horrible on the track, there would be a lot of cars that would be better, lighter, etc., etc., but the devil was you know, I tried it and... true endurance specific vehicle, it featured a completely revised driveline and we've already talked about it in previous videos, but different blocks of engine, different cylinder heads, it had the same displacement engine, but everything was stronger, you know, it was about 14 and a half pounds of boost and instead of the Hellcat which was about 11.6, something like that, the supercharger, the Hellcat with a 2.4 liter supercharger, the demon had a 2.7 liter supercharger, which I believe is the largest displacement supercharger in any current production vehicle.

More Interesting Facts About,

how fast is the hellcat redeye...

Dodge made 3,300 units of this demon after they stopped making the demon, they made it for a 2018 model year, they had all this technology developed, and so what they did, and honestly I think it's a really smart move, they released the red eye and they removed all the components from the demon transmission and put it on. them in a red eye, there were a couple of different things, a couple of things they didn't know they included, so the demon had a very soft drag specific suspension, not very good for daily driving, it wasn't a race car. very good handling, it was strictly set up for the you know, quarter mile straight, the demon had a trans brake that you would only really use on a race track, so they issued those few different characteristics and everything else they took to the eye red the demon had 808 horsepower and had a high octane button on the race throttle it gave you the ability to make around 840 horsepower the demon had a very specific ram air hood it was much bigger than the 2019 Hellcat hood, the regular Hellcat had a new hood and it was the same hood. which you see here on this Rhetta and they refer to this as a double snorkel, obviously you know, and the 2019 Hellcat had the same engine as the previous Hellcats, but where the others had 707 horsepower, now the horsepower went up to 717 and that.
how fast is the hellcat redeye
It's strictly because this hood design that they put out with the devil because it was a quarter mile specific car had a top speed of 168 miles per hour because on a quarter mile the demons weren't going to exceed that so it wasn't necessary. . to go

fast

er than that its only purpose was the quarter mile and that hood they had forced a lot of air into the engine department the problem was when you know the red eye it's not set up specifically for a race track . It's got the top done at two hundred and three miles an hour and that huge air hood actually caused a lot of lift in the front of the car that they didn't want, so they had to come up with something else, so they came up with this double snorkel hood. and they put it on the red eye and the infernal cap, it didn't breathe as efficiently as the demon hood, but it didn't even have the lifting problem that the big air intake had on the demon. although the red eye has the same engine and everything the demon has it dropped the horsepower a bit to 797 so on a regular Hellcat that made this hood dizzy I actually got a horsepower increase of about 10 horsepower, someone from 707 to 717 simply. because of this hood, the red eye came in two different configurations, it came in a normal body or a wide body that you see here, the wide body is the same as the demon, in my opinion a standard body red eye is something useless.

The main problem with these cars is trying to get enough traction, they have a tremendous amount of power and a lot of torque so getting enough traction and getting the power to the ground is always a problem. Well we have the 2019 widebody Hellcat that has 717 horsepower and we have the 2019 Hellcat red eye with 797 horsepower, the red eye only comes with an automatic transmission so if you're a guy that wants a stick shift, I don't like automatic transmission etc, you can't get a manual. transmission in a Hellcat is because it uses the demon transmission and of course the demon never came with a manual transmission so if you are a tried and true I want a manual gearbox then a Hellcat might be a better choice for ti because Honestly, you can still get a Hellcat and a standard body or widebody configuration, the power difference between this gwad body Hellcat and the widebody Red Eye, although there is about an 80 horsepower difference, the Zero to 60 time is actually the same on both vehicles which surprises a lot of people, it's about 3.4 seconds from 0 to 60, the reason for this is the traction issues with the car that a regular Hellcat has and which probably has the biggest problem putting the power to the ground and when you add 80 more horsepower you still have the same problem if not a little worse so the zero to 60 times on the car are exactly the same quarter mile times in the car between a widebody Hellcat and a widebody

redeye

.
They're very, very similar, the red ice 10.8 at 131 miles per hour, a widebody Hellcat is 10.9 at 127 miles per hour and that's strictly because you can see if these cars were in a half mile race or one. mileage run the extra power reading what you would see the car gradually pull away at that point traction becomes less of an issue and it's strictly the weight of the car, the aerodynamics of the car and the power of the car so you can see in this comparison the widebody Hellcat and a widebody red are pretty close although the power difference may be a red eye is as fast as a demon because and that's a logical question because they have the exact same transmission and the same horsepower is very very slightly different so I mean you could put a demon hood on a red eye.
The engine calibration is slightly different because the hood, air intake is a little more restrictive on the red eye and the demon has original 18 inch wheels with the original drag radial tires while the red eye you see here has 20 inch wheels, another big difference between those two is a suspension between a red eye and a demon, even if you took the wheels and tires off the demon and put them on a Red Eye it has the same engine, the same transmission, everything same. You would reduce the quarter mile time by about three tenths of a second, so it's not much.
You would have it about instead of 10.8, it would be about ten point five and it would be at the same mile per hour it would still be about 131 miles per hour because you didn't really increase the power, you just use the wheels and the tires, which are lighter, the tires They have a higher sidewall, so they have a little better launch. However, the demon has a quarter mile time of about nine point six five at over one hundred and forty miles per hour. A lot of people have a lot of questions about that because that's a drastic difference between, you know, we're talking about a Hellcat. body or red eye wide body, you know you're hearing a difference of 110 at three and four miles per hour, which is not much, where the demon, which is the same basic car, is drastically faster, the reason for that is what we As I talked about earlier in a video, the demon is built from the ground up to be nothing more than a quarter mile drag car, the suspension is very, very loose, so what happens is it's very efficient to transferring the load of the vehicle to the rear tires, so traction or getting enough traction, I should say is much less of an issue in a demon compared to a red eye or a Hellcat.
That said, every car has its strengths and weaknesses, the red eye is a much more well-rounded car, you know, go around. cornering track, whatever it is, it's not the best track car it'll ever be, but it's a far more complete vehicle than hell. Can a red eye be made as fast as a demon without mods? That's a completely different topic. I've equipped numerous red eyes, including specifically with this one, so we put a demonic suspension on it when it goes to the track. It has a different wheel and tire setup, obviously that would be equal to or better than the original demon setup you have.
You can change the hood, you can do things, and obviously here we can do custom engine calibrations and things like that, so overall, red eyes are a perfectly fine option. You know, we get asked a lot what the red eye means, what the Hellcat means. The way people criticized it for being heavy, the car weighs about 4,500 pounds, the demon was a little bit lighter, that's heavy for a sports car, but I mean a lot of the cars today, like Camaros, they don't get much lighter than that. With all the things the manufacturers put in the car, all the safety features, the power seats and the sunroof and all that, it all adds up, the car is big and honestly, if you've driven one, it doesn't drive like a super.
I know it's a heavy car, is it the best handling car on the road? No, not at all, it's like a big pig that can't handle anything. No, honestly, it's very good for its price, how much does a red eye cost? You know, right now. If you start around 70, you can get a standard body configuration or a widebody configuration; the wide body adds about $6,000 and if you took a full red eye from the dealership you would spend roughly around 91k dollars on the car differences between the Hellcat and a The red eye I mentioned before is basically the red eye that the transmission has of diamond, so for any of you who aren't, you're not really sure what devil and red is.
I share the same engine, same fan transmission. All the driveline so you know the supposed differences between the demon and the red eye is that the demon came equipped with 18 inch wheels that were lighter with a drag radial tire from the factory. It wasn't the best drag radial, but it was the first production one. The car comes with a NATO manufactured drag radial. The demon has a very soft drag specific suspension. The Red Eye has a suspension system setup almost identical to the Hellcat, so other than that the Demon is a quarter mile specific drag car and the Red Eye.
Being basically like a top variant of the Hellcat, there aren't many differences between the devil and the red to speak of between the Hellcat and a red eye, they look very similar if you put a wide body 2019 Hellcat next to a wide. -body 2019 red eyes, it's very hard to tell them apart in all honesty, if you open the hood you can see like we talked about before, the Hellcat would have an orange engine block and orange valve covers, the red eye would have a black engine block. the black valve covers small subtle differences the Hellcat emblem on the fender of a Hellcat as they have always been since 2015 on a red eye has a small red eye the superchargers the red eye has a 2.7 liter blower and the Hellcat has a 2.4 From the outside they look identical, you can hardly notice it, you start to take it apart.
The small plate on top of the red eye actually has a Hellcat with a small red eye, apart from thenight, you can't really. Tell him that they are very, very subtle differences, the engine that both featured the 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi v8 engine, the demon or red-eye version features that block is structurally stronger, has more belts, is more rigid, the lubrication system it's different and the twin piston jets deliver, I think 30% more fuel or whatever the crankshaft is stronger, the action connecting rods, the pistons are all stronger, the camshafts are slightly different, the cylinder heads are very similar, just structurally stronger, has less deflection under higher boost than the regular Hellcat blower again, very very similar, looks identical. it's just a bigger displacement, they extended the rotor package, different torque converters, the differential is stronger and demon in the red eyes, the gears are made from a different component or cut, so the Hellcat always came with a rear gear 262, sounds low for everyone. you have hot rod geysers that are used here in 373 410 411 s it's because it has an 8 speed automatic transmission the demon came out with a 309 differential it was very common for us before the demon came out to upgrade the Hellcat to a 309 differential because we found out that he fared much better on the red-eye track.
You can get the diff, it's a demon diff as far as strength, rigidity, housing and everything, but you can get it on a 262 that the traditional Hellcat came with. in or you get it in the 309 well the demon came in like that Apart from the differences in the driveline the red eye Hellcat and the normal Hellcat are very similar so consider it as a Hellcat with a demon driveline and that's the way easier to compare the two so real quick let's talk a little bit about performance numbers and again these are all stock vehicles so we said before the demon goes a quarter mile and nine point six five at 140 miles per hour, granted, these are all fabricated claim times, okay, but you know, I don't want to get you know, Joe Bob ran this and his demon and this and that, so since we can talk about it all day, a The original model of the wide-body red-eye Hellcat would be the second fastest.
The next fastest would be a widebody Hellcat. It's not actually the red-eye version, so third fastest would be the wide-body Hellcat, which does it in ten point nine seconds. at around 127 miles per hour the third fastest would be the red eye standard body and as we mentioned before this is due to traction issues and tire size etc. the standard body comes with a 275 rear tire, while the wide body comes with a 305 tire so the standard body red eye does an 11.1 quarter mile at 131 miles per hour now before we continue I just said the wide body red eye does at 10.8 at 131 and the standard companion Red Eye does eleven point one at 131, okay, that's because they still have the same power, so the overall top speed and a quarter mile are the same, the longer time fast is due to the additional traction and gains ground at the beginning of the race and finally.
Last but not least is the standard Hellcat, which clocks in at 11.2 at 125 miles per hour, top speed at red eye is 203, whether regular or wide body, top speed on a full body Hellcat wide is 199 and the maximum. The speed on a standard body Hellcat is 195 and the top speed on the Demon is ultimately 168. It is limited in the PCM and again is a quarter mile specific card that will not exceed 168 miles per hour at the end of a quarter. . mile that basically sums up what the red eye is, what the red is compared to a normal Hellcat, what it is compared to a demon, so I hope this clears up some things and answers some questions for you all, we have a lot questions. these questions all the time so I'm just trying to post a bunch of answers to answer as many questions as I can in one video.
