Honest Tesla Model 3 Review 6 Months In
no-no-no why do you mean no this was your choice cuz I wanted to save the money alright it's been officially six

months

since I've got my

model

three and I'm gonna go meet up with Jenny and we're gonna talk about kind of our feelings and our thoughts about it so let's go hey tell anyone what we're doing today umm let's go get ice cream ice cream oh so Jenny's here as I mentioned and we're gonna talk about the

model

three and what we think of it after six

months

we got it on January 15th and it's January its past June 15th so a little more than six

months

so basically we're doing just how we feel about the car after we've had it for six

months

how we feel about feel like for me I haven't really had it in six

months

because someone else who's gotten to drive it the most mm-hmm well okay so that's fair so you've had you

Model

S now for six

months

yeah you have had to take this though for a few times and then we had to switch cars back and forth a little bit which you weren't in love with yeah well cuz you know I move into the car and so it's hard to do but definitely I'm a comparing to the S at all you know I I don't think that's fair like it's hard not to because that's our other car but it is I think just important to talk about like what you think of it overall and then you know at the end maybe we can talk about how it compares okay so when I do get to drive it in love with the driver...

seat I don't know what it is but when I like sit down in it it's like fits perfect I can put my arm on the armrest and then the I've never been able to sit in a car and really like feel really comfortable to wear my arm just rest right there I may there and I get to use the armrest like even like in the toy drive now I Drive the

Model

S like I can't really use the elbow armrest like it's not anywhere near I would use it and the steering wheel I just feel very like I've always felt very like cars feel very high now for you I think that's a negative right you feel a little bit cramped over here yeah it's a little tight because I'm smaller yeah yeah yeah I love the lumbar support an old woman and I say that but that see as the best lumbar support yeah the seats here definitely really yeah so interior for me love it it's super minimal um having a black car no no no why do you mean no this was your choice cuz I wanted to save the money so here I thought it was all about no I'm cheap I don't want to spend a thousand dollars I'm like another paint job which i think and then like four grand on paint correction and wrap and all that stuff so yeah I get it black is hard I mean it's it's warm here we definitely have sunshine so a black car feels hotter I like the black interior it's just hard to keep clean a little bit right it's hard to keep clean just because like the beach and the dust and stuff shows up but super...

impressed with the interior things that I thought they didn't really think about I like a lot like the cell phone yeah and I didn't like it at first because sometimes I have a case that has credit cards in it and I actually had to take the phone out to put it in but Ben showed me actually that he closes the lid on it for safety which I really like because your phone's plugged in you close the lid you don't text you don't see anyone and so that that's kind of the only thing I think they could really improve upon with regards to that because I do love that I do love how you can close the lid and then it's an extra layer of like don't look at your phone don't touch your phone yeah but I would love and both Google and Apple have you know their voice assistance of Siri or Google assistant and you have a voice trigger but I think it'd be cool if you could just push the button or hold it in for a couple seconds and it would trigger that so then you could say things like you know text so-and-so call so-and-so play music on this thing you know and I know the car tries to do some of those things but it just it's it falls short so so bad that you don't ever want to use like slacker radio and stuff you kind of resort to it but yeah you know yeah as far as like the comfort of the car and stuff it like yeah the technology it's something that you'll just have to get used to especially being a first early adopter to this car it's...

glitchy you know um a couple times I've been driving and it just turns off yeah which is so weird because the car is still moving that you don't have a speedometer you don't have anything anything so it does take a while to get used to the car is very technology run right wouldn't you say it's all software driven it's all software driven and so which is a good thing because it can update and fix those bugs but you do have a lot of bugs like Slacker Radio blows like it's all and sometimes yeah there's just little stuff that on the screen have kind of been glitchy well like the backup camera sometimes it doesn't come on right you just go into the backup in it literally yeah they take 30 seconds and not come on and you're just sitting there waiting and you know so the software itself has a long way to go before it's like up to par with you know the

model

Astra my lab yeah did you ever get used to it being so far away to look at in terms of regular just driving yeah in terms of turn-by-turn directions navigation no it still sucks it's still totally sucks having it all the way over on the right I think but you know these are little things that they can easily change and they will I really wish that yeah it's still very early days I would say this kind of I think your point because like it doesn't have the calendar in here which is really nice in the

Model

S because then you can see like what you you know your appointments are...
for the day you just get in and it pops up yeah I don't think I've utilized I mean I think a lot of the technology features I didn't utilize like I did get really cited when it did the parallel park for me oh yeah did you use that yes yeah that's cool loved the self Park autopilot never I used it once with you on the first video if you want to see how I reacted it's awful but I just I don't really have a use for it um right I think the traffic aware cruise control where you put it in cruise control but it speeds up and slows yeah yeah I did like that that's cool and that technically is an autopilot feature which doesn't make a whole lot of sense so you don't have that unless you upgrade to autopilot correct that is I mean you still have to pay attention but it is nice that you know you set it to two or three car lengths you're still steering but yeah not to get off track of the comfort thing cuz this kind of leads into it having this car is what we would choose to travel with because it has that autopilot has that adaptive cruise control and the mileage is huge and that's where I would put my money when you go electric is as much money as you can into getting the biggest battery who cares about upgrading four thousand bucks to have a red car it's a big battery is so important and a little disappointed because this car has everything you want for a road trip except for us with a family I just don't think it has a space yeah...
it's felt a little cramped you know so it was just my car if it was just a city car I love the size for parking mm-hmm I love my seat and I can put jack in the back but this specific vehicle which you might need to clarify you can't put a car seat in the middle yeah you know it recommends in the manual that you only put the car seats on the sides versus the middle which is not what when you read online about with the safest position and all that for the for the car seat to be okay and I don't just look negative for me because he kicks me see ya where he's behind you and he's cramped because you sit further back and so as a family car I know in the beginning we really felt like there was a lot of room in the back end I've kind of I think you deal with this a lot when you're a family and we just have one kid if you have two or three you have two car seats and a lot of times there's a lot of cars that roll out and you can't use them because fitting car seats back there but this it does feel a smaller car it's cozy you can't fit a stroller in the trunk in the front I'm sorry in the front and the trunk because it doesn't have a hatchback it doesn't sell clothes these are features that as a mom you get used to I had on my other car a lot of the small SUVs have hatchbacks and then you can click it closed or they have a swing one more you suckers people today some cars where you wait there some it leaves them to be desired in...
this car for being a parent because it's kind of chaotic when you have a baby and older and you need the car to kind of the stroller alone I know that when I take him out and in the u.s. we have these laughs laughably large stroller sabab stroller yeah but sometimes you put those in the back and like that's it almost I mean you can fit little bags on the sides but that takes up a good chunk whereas in you know a lot of other cars in a

Model

S in particular there's just gobs of room and beyond that I think the hatchback and all that so I feel like if it had a hatchback with the same space and you could fold the seats down I mean like I said if you don't have kids and you're not I mean I do a lot of things where I go vintage shopping and I need to fit furniture like fully made furniture and it's not like broke down like IKEA flat pack like I went up to the Pasadena market and I would have loved to take this car other than fact that doesn't get free charging it has the range but I chose Electra because I know that I can fit stuff in that car because the hatchback comes all the way up I throw the seats down it's just a sedan it's bigger so this was a little bit more of like a wild card like I'm sure you could cram it packed but it's cozier and yeah like I wouldn't buy it for the side so so in in one thing to compare it to also like we just went to Hawaii we had a Kia Evy Kia Soul Evie yeah which looks like an SUV but it looks like...
the little yes Santos but it looks like it should have story but the thing had like none yeah it had like a little grocery bag size in the back and it was it was pleasure lane it's cozy you know when you think about a vehicle like that compared to this one I feel like this one's way better I agree this one you know a lot of space compared but then if you compare this to like a

Model

S it's like whoa no it's definitely a step down yeah IRA but you may not need that depending on for us though I think that's important I think a lot of times is if you need a family car it needs to be a little bit bigger you couldn't just rely on this but this is a great car to have like just us driving by ourselves or the three of us just going in town but yeah road tripping friends in the car with us I mean you get two backpacks or two strollers back there how do you feel about the speed the acceleration the handling all those kind of things it's definitely fast and zippy and it feels very sporty like the shower feels really sporty not a fan of lowering because it's fast and zippy and then you got a break at the bumps and you get a break it's like no we have the crappiest roads in California by phone our roads are crappy and so you know you can't really navigate through them when you have a low car but love the I think the performance is great don't you yeah I know it's it's a great it's really fast it's like you can get out of danger...
you feel like you're driving someone pulls in front of you this car picks it doesn't need to like accelerate or have you noticed at all because we got the 20 inch wheels with the low profile tires and all that have you noticed it xride extra hard when you hit bumps and stuff again I think it's cuz the lowering do you think the lower I when I was driving it the other day it did feel very bumpy and mm-hm and so I just think it equates to like I'm so low to the ground yeah I've never really had the car that low yeah you know for me I've we've got it so early on the the lowering and the wheels and all that so it's kind of normal to me now but it definitely was like when you hit a bump you're gonna feel it with these rims and this kind of setup but just on a normal driving down the road yeah like I don't really notice it when so different in this car I think from any car I've driven before I feel like it's really quiet it is there it is whisper quiet on the inside of the car like I don't I don't know if that's just every time I've been in it it's felt like that and I've noticed it but no you're right and and somebody I read this

review

on on Facebook somebody posted that came over from they got a

model

three and they previously had a BMW 3-series and they I've had this opinion as well people will complain about wind noise in these different things but overall the noise level is dramatically lower than...
a than a regular gas car regular gas car you have all kinds of other things that make noise so like if you think about let's measure wind noise or or just road noise while you're driving in a regular gas car well a lot of that sound is muffled by your engine and by everything else there we go you guys should take this up so we feel like it's it's really quiet and it's a nice like we're sitting here now I mean granted it's quiet outside for the most part but mm-hmm it feels the cabin feels really no I agree I agree the music's really good in here yeah have a good music going knots like a radio it's really good there is in not just a balanced lacquer because of the recommendation engine but their force you to use them I'm gonna yeah but but but let's just say this like I have seen issues where if I'm on slacker radio and the song isn't downloaded or something there seems to be like yeah there's like a weird buzz remember we were filming it that one yeah yeah but then if you switch it or if you go to bluetooth or something else it sounds fantastic yeah so I think there's some more glitchy software things that need to be worked out with regards to music and how it plays things I feel that when it does play it it's it's the sound is phenomenal in this car I think it's really good yeah I think you know going back to the glitch stuff just being an early adopter of this

model

in particular there's you know...
you're going to have those hiccups and there's been a lot of times

Tesla

's been in the shop yeah a lot yep now it's not as bad as it could be because they take such good care of you like just anyone that's part of their family um they always give you a car so you're never like I need someone to pick me up for and take the shuttle you always get a car in most of the time the car is nicer than what we have because we have a 60s it's older so we're like oh but we've even gotten to drive an X Jack still love that red car he still talks about the red 90 do you think red I've never wanted or thought I would want a red car but when I saw a red

model

3 in person I was really wowed right it's like deeper he was yeah it was beautiful I really like to read pretty red I you always thought of like red as like the Mustang rider yeah kind of flashy but there's is like a really yeah I'm a fan of the red cars yeah so I mean you're definitely early adopters you're gonna have a little bit of those glitches like the shutting down or you know bends I think you've showed all the things we've had the roof and the so they they make it right and they do that and so you're never without a car mm-hmm it's just you're kind of like oh shoot like I think I'm more just like fearful when I have a kid in the car I'm like is everything safe you know I do like that I have that feeling but right I also drove a car for eight...

months

that had the exploder move your leg literally had a grenade in the steering wheel and it was from Acura and they never fixed it so yeah but so no I think the the technology glitches and stuff are something that they can improve which is a little bit different you know only a lemon on it it feels more like it's just evolving and even some of the things that they've replaced later on they came back to me and said well you know that we could have fixed that with software yeah but we just didn't have we didn't have it ready at the time and we wanted to get you taken care of so we just you know replace the whole piece or whatever so yeah I think like they're doing an Elan recently even talked about it they're gonna be doing their own body shop repairs and they're gonna be like expanding their services so you're saying one of the things you really liked and you stopped this car had a big improvement or a-plus over is there's a lot of things you can do after market and maybe because there's a lot more and that they're gonna be selling and it's in a different price point like you can really customize this car and really make it fun yeah that is one of the things because yeah right like so this you know at the lowest price point is going to be a really affordable car when that day comes yeah and and with that you you know you're you'll be able to afford a lot of customizations it's almost like jeeps where nobody really...
goes and buys the fancy version of the Jeep if you want to customize it if you want to if you're really into the Jeep culture you buy the cheapest bare-bones version and then you throw all the money in the aftermarket stuff so I kind of feel like it's really exciting time because the

Model

S starting out at like eighty thousand dollars it seems odd to like go modify that thing immensely because it's already such a amazing car right you know being $35,000 at the at the lowest price point I think that leaves a lot of room for customization so I think that's cool I think there's gonna be a really cool kind of new industry that that you know rises up from that yeah yeah yeah the we're gonna talk about the biggest quirk on the car though yeah yep I think we both have agreed it's probably the most frustrating thing about the car right mm-hmm that freaking key card yeah yeah it is the most annoying thing I've ever dealt with you know yeah I've said this multiple times it's like you walk up to your car now I will say if you use the app it's ten times better we have a unique situation because we share the app for two cars Ben sometimes changes the login or whatever and I get logged out yeah and so if I fall back on the app it's usually ok the app kind of signals the car to open I just walk up and I push in the handles which I like the handles yeah I don't mind them they don't you don't have to wait for them to pop out but you...
can see the mirror open you push the handle and normally it works the car doesn't ask me to put a key card in nothing on that now if you don't use the app and you use the card that is where I found the most frustration with it I wish I just had a freaking key because yeah you walk up to the car and you're sitting you're flashing your card you're trying to get the sweet spot and it's it's a good three four times it finally opens and then I sit in the car cars ready it says park I'm ready to throw it into reverse and it's like BB put your put your key card in the center console and you're like okay so to move my water bottle mm-hmm put my key card in the center console it takes like five times to figure out and I'm just like this whole time yeah I should be gone by now I could just stick an old analog key or just have a regular key fob like every other car there have been no benefit to me of this credit card style key no no you can hate it yeah I mean can you take it in the water yeah okay that maybe is the benefit is though it's waterproof over the key fob but but whatever like in people even sell like cardholder keychain so you can keep it on your keys as if having a giant thing of keys wasn't already annoying enough now you have this giant card to go along with it it's the most that wasn't definitely a failed like flawed design if you didn't have to then tap it in here if you didn't it's not it's not...
like yeah it just doesn't the the fundamentals behind that are we're not the right choice yeah it's the fact that I have to tap it in two places and then here's the kicker then you have to remember now this is almost going back in time right because even my my little Acura RDX when I walked away the car lock now you get out of the car you have to grab that key and lock the door so now you have to go anything you swipe right if you don't it won't now in the cars right open that is an extra problem because typically when you walk away it will automatically lock so as an owner of this car not comparing to other cars just this car itself in a typical scenario you never have to lock it you just get out and walk away but in this case you don't so it's well it's it's to the point where I we've left the car in lock so maybe if you switch back and forth if the app fails and you have to use a keycard you also need to remember that you have to lock it so it it's a lie and you could like have your kid it becomes the grocery store like being stressful situation where you definitely just software stuff they can fix because another thing and maybe I don't know if I've asked you if this can change so when I pick up my son sometimes I'm parked to where the closest door and where his car seat is is on that side mm-hmm I can't open the door no I have to I have to flag even with the app I think no ok so just the key card I have to...
walk around the car flag it open walk back around and get him in the car seat super annoying so that key card is actually no here's the thing too is that as a guy I have it in my wallet right and so in theory I could just pull it out and then I could like tap it right like that however I have another card which also has the same functionality the Weber card and so these guys kind of yeah cancel each other out so neither of them work so I actually have to literally take it out and then and then tap it I guess not something you can just have like on the side and tap it and as a woman I imagine with a purse you have to like open up your purse if you have a wallet reach into your wallet so it's like an extra extra extra inconvenience yeah I really enjoyed the fobs because I remember before I even started driving Elektra my old car it just was in my purse all the time mmm you know I got out got in I it was always in my purse I never thought about it I knew as long as I got close enough to the car with my purse the car would open kids in my hand I can load them in right but an Electra a little bit glitchy with the fob in the sense that if it's next to the phone I've got no right yes if the key fob is in your pocket next to your phone or they something about that what there's like an interference that I just always like will put my phone in my back pocket or I'm in different pockets in the diaper bag but that that I've gotten used to but this key card...
there's no getting used to that this is that has to be the biggest they're gonna have to make like that yeah yeah they're gonna have to definitely fix that next to not having a second display behind the steering wheel huh well only for navigation and it's only because the navigation on the screen is so not it it's just not functional don't wait time I notice it is at night it is funny to be driving a car and it's just pitch black inside the car except for right here and this goes to like a black mode yeah so the car feels very dark in the daytime I have noticed I really have to turn to my right to check this out that is something you get used to but again the navigation is the thing like literally I'll turn on navigation and because it doesn't show me the turn-by-turn directions anywhere near where I'm looking I literally have to guess at like what road I'm gonna be taking yeah it's it's terrible think they'll eventually switch it around well I saw a photo of somebody showed showed me on Twitter the original design had that stuff on the left side interesting so like what the hell like you you made it worse but really it's a lot to turn that far over if you're just kind of because out of your peripheral you can see the park and the how fast you're going I mean but then you have to actually turn your head and look and yeah and what you're looking for is like a tiny little thing it's not like the left...
side of the screen which has your speed and the speed is like a big fat number that's real obvious and stuff it's it's like a really yeah that's a that is another challenge I would say that oh that one they can fix the phone app thing they've talked about they're gonna start selling a good key fob like I think a lot of those things are gonna they're gonna resolve but right now some of the pain points yeah when you have it such a technology-driven car like literally technology-driven car it's gonna change and adapt a lot so these things that we complain about now can be fixed where is like I don't think there's any huge complaints I have that are not I hope fixable or variable you know the size that's just a personal preference because we're family but I like the things that they can't really change are great are fine right like that like like they're the size of the car and the seats and things like this yeah it's it's the the software side and those things that are kind of frustrating and annoying I mean I bet you they'll be aftermarket stuff to put in front like bends even great this little thing for his phone it did take a while to get used to the see it takes to find your little sweet spot and then once you do like you don't ever think about it again mm-hmm of course my favorite thing just driving an electric car in general is how nice it is not getting gas yeah thank you especially in this car you...
don't have to fill up a lot you don't have to charge it a lot right and so you just I remember every Monday because it was my day off I would go to Costco and stand in that long line it was usually like 30 minutes Jim and get my gas and so now having two electric cars and that's something that's really really nice and just not having to worry about that you won't have ranging in xiety at all with these kind of numbers yeah I mean I go days like 3-4 days without plugging in Elektra how many miles 180 180 is about 90% and I charge every other night usually because it's it's a little dance having two electric vehicles and one charger or just two cars that you're like want to put in the garage and you'll have one so we definitely just kind of go back and forth but I charged every other night and I never notice miles in fact I even think about it I thought it was kind of funny it was like at 90 miles and I was like I got to plug it in which most electric vehicles started it like that was so you get kind of used to it so the range is huge I don't is this the largest battery they make right now for this car yeah okay yeah yeah the

model

are just like if you're waiting I don't know how much it is to upgrade the other room is it five no it's funny so it's it's nine thousand dollars more which is a lot sounds like a lot but I don't know it's just so everything but here's the thing is dot like miles per dollar that...
is the best deal of any electric vehicle you can buy hmm like the amount of range you get per dollar is it's it's better than any other car out there so it is worth it in my mind Ranger just seems like something you can't really upgrade like it's it's like when you buy a house and they're like a location got to make sure location it's right for an electric vehicle it's the battery cuz I loved Electra like that car is great for us as a family mm-hmm and then I wish I could get to Phoenix without yeah is it that's something I hope that one day they'll offer battery upgrades right like they do now but it's like $20,000 it's like no like I'm not gonna be yeah the battery is huge like the long-range battery having what what do you get on this 290 310 yeah that's like it's unreal yes so nice so a lot of times I just wish I had 310 an Electra and you just get away with doing everything it could be a road trip car and everything just because like I said for us with a stroller in the yeah you know what that's kind of like that so overall what do you think I love it I wish it was mine I wish someone didn't constantly steal it from me and you make videos with
