Jun 02, 2021
Controls head position and balance. This sense of balance is controlled by the pretzel-shaped semicircular canals and the vestibular sacs that connect these canals to the cochlea in the inner ear. If you spin in place for a while and then stop, it will take some time before the fluid in the inner ear returns to normal. That's why you feel dizzy, as the moving liquid tricks your brain into telling you that you're still spinning. This is an example of how our senses can deceive us and function normally. Understanding our delusion helps us understand our own perceptual system, and that's what we'll talk about next time.
