Hive Mind Setup Build – LG UltraWide [GIVEAWAY CLOSED]

Feb 27, 2020
and we're live oh I'm on the wrong camera view haha, you never know what kind of things are going to go wrong when you do it live, like starting a stream and then stopping it almost immediately because you left the cursor. on the start streaming button and you didn't realize you accidentally clicked your mouse again shortly after, so oh, this is only the second time we've done a live

build

with Linux tech tips, but definitely we are. getting our live shenanigans uh your money's worth uh speaking of getting your money's worth lg sponsored this video they're having us

build

what they call the Hive Mind PC so most of the components in front of me were selected by a group of our viewers so they could vote for what they thought were the best options, so let's go through and show you what exactly the community thought was a good idea to put in our system, so first we have our case this is the mid tower nzxt h500i there goes my water bottle I'm just there we go so uh the community didn't actually choose the power supply I think we just advised lg and one what we thought was a good source power supply because you don't want to end up with the wrong power supply for a build, like something that doesn't have enough power for everything or doesn't have the right connectors or whatever, so the whole concept of the community choosing the components individual will fail.

It doesn't work if you end up with an incompatible computer. That being said, the community went ahead and chose the core i7 8700k for us, a great choice, six core processors, the fastest on the planet right now for gaming, drives, let's see, we have a wd. blue 500 gig m.2 solid state drive for boot then we have a seagate uh barracuda oh it's a four terabyte barracuda pro okay not bad another thing the community voted for was the graphics card and Once again the community did a good job. work choosing the most expensive good work community you can't go wrong when you choose the best graphics card for the amount of money you have to spend, so we have a msi Armor gtx 1080 ti, let's be when equipping this thing, I discovered everything this for the first time, by the way, 16 gigs of dual channel ddr4 memory, we will be using an asus rog strix z370e gaming motherboard and this was another community vote that we are going to do. cool it down with the master liquid ml240r rgb so for all the haters that say oh rgb sucks no one likes it the truth of the matter is people like it, given the choice people will choose rgb over something else . and of course the centerpiece of it all is the LG ultra wide 38 wk95c, so this is a gigantic 38 inch ultra wide monitor.

More Interesting Facts About,

hive mind setup build lg ultrawide giveaway closed...

Let's go over some of the specifications of this device. It has a 21 by 9 aspect ratio, so it has a higher resolution. than the

ultrawide

s that were initially released when

ultrawide

was starting to become a thing a couple of years ago, so it's kind of like a 4k ultrawide, so it's 3840 by 1600 instead of 3440 by 1440, it uses an ips panel , it is curved and a monitor that sits right on the desk in front of you is one of the situations where a curved screen that I personally find feels pretty good has hdr 10 so it can accept an input signal hdr10 covers 99 of the srgb color space it has usb c type it has a three-sided borderless design, super slim bezels and of course it has this, okay it's big and it's in charge, let's go ahead and get these components out here, maybe let's put this together First, what do you think Bren should do? we should put this together first and then we can put it aside while we build the computer, okay, yeah, oh, it's heavy, ah, okay, oh, oh, okay, I've got this, okay, no, I've got this, no No problem, no problem, okay, let's get that box out, oh. the laptop is about to fail, no, the laptop is not going to fall on the table, yes, I have this, look, we are not going to have any more difficulties arising from technical problems or me dropping something or something during the rest of this broadcast, who? who's that at the door swagger why are we going swagger it's good to see you old mate okay look this is the kind of thing we don't normally do make you guys sit down but honestly a lot of people loved the last live version we did that we thought when LG came to us they said, "Hey, we want to do another one of these live builds," we're like, yeah, sure, yeah, why aren't you guys getting the full experience?

Nothing is removed, so if you wanted to go out and build the exact machine that we have, you could literally put this video in the background and sit there and build it because we're going to go over absolutely everything, including the process for screwing on the base of the monitor stand, bippity boppity, ready, so it's a a piece of metal here and then a piece of plastic here interesting, okay, monitor there, uh, these accessories we won't need until we connect the computer later, so we'll put them somewhere where Brandon is unlikely to bump into them. Go ahead and put our stand there.
hive mind setup build lg ultrawide giveaway closed
Monitors have become much easier to assemble over the years. I still remember when they didn't have self-retaining screws with small cables and you had to put in a lot of screws. the base and then you had to put a bunch of screws between the base and the monitor itself, a real hassle, I don't know how I'm going to show you this assembly process, oh, I know how I'm going to do it. I'm going to do it here, so basically the way it happens, you're going to want to get a side angle of the breasts here, here we go, so just lift that up there, line it up from the top and there. you go there's your height adjustment there you go there's your tilt no pivot you just rotate the base I guess or did I say pivot I meant swivel right so the monitor is in place what else uh msrp 1499 oh and am I supposed to talk? the tilt and height adjust but I already did that so incredibly cool now let's build a computer so we can power this so the idea was to have a sort of hybrid workstation bar gaming machine and that was has become something surprisingly easy to do.
Now that Intel has finally beefed up the number of cores in their mainstream processors with the LGA 1150, whatever platform we're on now, I really wish it was 11 51, so it was 1156 1155 1150 1151, so there's no no similar pattern you can find. Now that they have six cores available on this platform, it's very easy to create something that's great for gaming, but can also handle some rendering here and there or some additional video editing if needed. In terms of things we're going to need from the motherboard case, we're going to take our i o shield, so we'll install that into the case later, we'll need a couple of sata cables, one for our hard drive and then one for a Test SSD I'm going to use because I think you guys don't want to just sit here and watch me install Windows for an hour and then other than that there are some temperature probes and stuff, but Overall I don't really bother with this guy of things, Sli Bridge, that I generally don't bother with anymore, I mean, since the last season of Scrapyard Wars, like Sli, Sli, betrayed me, Sli let me down, so I've been.
I've been off the sli train for a while uh brandon, you can take a quick break there if you want, I'm going to switch to wide for just a couple of seconds here, do you want me to direct you somehow? when you're live okay so why don't we just uh why don't I do this right in front of you so you can see it's helpful actually I lied I need you again anyway so Come and take a look, we are going to do the installation of our CPU, so I always recommend using the motherboard case as a test bench, but not necessarily using the anti-static bag.
You might think that if the motherboard comes inside then you should put it on top, but actually the outside of some of these bags may have conductive materials as part of what makes them safe from electrostatic discharge and if for some reason there is a charge in one of the capacitors on the board and bypass those contacts, you can cause a short circuit, so not all ESD bags. bags, I know I've gotten a lot of reviews from people saying well, actually, I'm actually Linus, some of them, I don't know if this one does it, so if I was going to give you the rule of thumb that works for everything put it in something definitely non-conductive, which is a definitely non-conductive cardboard box, I don't know, it's surprising to me how much time Intel seems to spend redesigning these cardboard holders for their chips, so now there's a little tab here for your fingers or whatever, that's really horrible and how bad it still is, so you pull this and then out comes this or whatever, like I thought it was, I thought it was this one that was supposed to come out that actually there would be It worked a little better for me, do you guys want me to put the sticker on it?
I'm not actually monitoring the chat right now. My computer is there, but let me know in the chat and maybe someone will tell me what. you guys think i think nick is checking out the chat there so he can tell me if you want me to put case badge stickers on them and things that i remember, that's the kind of thing that i was really excited about when i was younger and i hadn't done so many PC builds. I was thinking yeah, I'm going to have these stickers lined up so perfectly that you won't even believe they weren't placed by a machine.
Pretty simple

setup

just raise your arm here come on close Brandon how close can you get? can you come a little closer? can you come closer? can you come closer? Come on, be my friend, okay, then we take out the arm lift. so what we're going to do is grab the CPU here, we're going to find the corner with the little triangle, so there it is, pull it out like this and then we'll be mad at ourselves for not checking the corner of the triangle before we pull this up. Sometimes it is indicated by a small dot, but I have now seen points that are not in the same corner as the triangle, so it is always good to make sure you find them. the triangle, put it in the socket, no force required, move it a little, make sure it's there, pull this down, put your arm down and it will come off like this, okay, pro tip, you guys never throw this away because, if out for whatever. reason you have to assemble your motherboard in the future or whatever the case may be, you have to use this to protect the pins in transport, so what I normally do is go fine.
It's unlikely I'll need this unless I need it too, so I put it in there, then I take everything and put it in the motherboard case for storage. It's actually very important as you go along, to stay organized with all the pieces you have, otherwise you finish your build and in the end you have to clean up this giant mess instead of sitting down and playing, which is what you really want. do at that point, so I'm going to go ahead and put this 4x7 box back together if I can, I think I'm a stupid plastic holder.
Damn, wait a second, ah, none of this is helping my reputation for dropping things, I don't think so, honestly, I don't drop that many things, it's just a misconception, okay, I like to build a lot of the motherboard. before we even open the case, so the next thing we're going to do is go ahead and install our RAM, so we have this, uh oh, it's a trident z oh, I thought it was rgb ram. it seems like the community wants an rgb cooler but they draw the line at rgb ram how interesting can I can I can never tell you you know what is what is the step too far you know rgb fan yes rgb system component is not ok I think this However, the strix board also has quite a bit of RGB so installing the RAM is pretty simple, this is just an old habit, you don't actually have to do the sockets that are further away or the RAM slots that are further away from the socket. the CPU, but what's still good is this approach, so it used to be that those were the primaries and you couldn't complete the secondaries first, that was a long time ago, although the reason I still do it is because it gives if you don't have all four. occupied slots, they give the CPU a little more room to breathe if you're using an air cooling system or honestly in general so you have that little extra space where you know if you have a big heat pipe cooler . or whatever the case may be, you wouldn't have to worry about any kind of clearance issues, especially if you have a tall ram, like if you look at the height of the PCB there and then look at the height of the cooler, there's actually a big difference . so this is what I would consider a pretty tall ram.
Now let's put that aside and open this case. I've never actually built this one, so it will be a new experience for me and hopefully, I can do a reasonably good job at cable management for you, but I'm not going to make any promises. Let's move on andthat there was money to be made running a web forum unless We're running something very, very specialized with a very rich audience, something very specialized, I think it's a better way to make money on a web forum than something more conventional, and it's not It's a good way to make money.
Why don't you do case reviews anymore? So the reason we don't do case reviews is actually the same reason we don't do many things anymore. It wasn't a particularly strong category for us in terms of audience. like people seem to be losing interest in this compared to other things and also there are other guys doing great work like do you really need to see dimitri's thoughts on a case and mine and steve's Gamer's Nexus? I need so many reviews of a case, the case more or less you use it. I see it, unless it's very high-end, as a one-shot thing where if there's some sort of problem, you can fight your way through. that in the initial configuration, but beyond that, although there are cases that do not have great performance in terms of airflow, the h500p was a great example of that a while ago, isn't it, it was so bad that it was going to kill your components or something, so it's one of those components that there's really not much you can completely screw up, um, really, really bad, and if people just choose what they like, they'll mostly end up with a nice decent experience, so we don't care as much anymore and when you stop caring and when you stop getting excited about something, it's the perfect time to stop creating content about it and leave it to the guys who are still excited about it and I still have many I want to talk about it because I have said it many times when people ask me how I can become a YouTuber and the answer is always to do what you are really passionate about because if you try to pretend, no one will.
We will be fooled and everyone will hate your content, so it's not about pretending, we want to make sure that when we make videos, we make videos about things that really light our fire. Would be the main reasons why we don't do case reviews anymore oh boy cable management oh boy oh boy okay so yeah I've decided on a location for this I'm going to put it in the heart oh it's magnetic that's it brilliant. Great, I've got this, it's magnetic, you can stick it anywhere you want, so I'm just going to leave it there and then plug in my USB connector.
In fact, I'm going to do this pretty early here and I think I'm going to pull this out from under the motherboard here, start connecting this, this thing is like over 50 of the total wiring for this build, it's this damn water cooler, there come on so let's put that USB connector right there and actually this is cool this motherboard has two USB 2's and I think we're going to need both because I think the integrated nzxt hub wants one too yeah so we're going to need to hook it up too, perfect, everything's going surprisingly well all things considered, although you know the famous last words of course, okay, I'm going to go ahead and then grab all the rgb connectors here, sorry, I'll give them a better look , so these are the rgb connectors for the top. two fans or sorry, uh, wait, what, oh, the CPU cooler and then the two front fans here, we'll take them all to our center, oh man, there's going to be some kind of rat's nest at the bottom of this , so I apologize in advance to whoever wins it because there's a big difference between a build that I have six hours to work on and a build that I have like two hours to work on while I'm streaming, yeah, oh, for those Of you joining us, this is some kind of $2000 ish gaming machine.
It has a core i7 8700k 16 gigabytes of g-skill dual-channel DDR4 memory. It has an asus z370 strix motherboard. If I remember correctly, I want to say that. it has and uh it has a wd 500 gig m.2 ssd it has a four terabyte hard drive from seagate it's on a nzxt h500i and then it's running an 80 plus platinum 850 watt power supply from sea sonic down here and of course we're i use a gtx 1080 ti for both gaming and light workstation use and it will all run with a 38 inch lg ultrawide monitor that you can see on the back so that's waiting for me to take care of my shit. together and build this machine is sitting there waiting patiently it's like it's prepared, you know, so we've just shoved all those cables in there as best we can and we're going to zip tie them up a little bit.
A little later, but that's all I can do for now. Now we're going to try to find power connectors for the actual components of our fans. You know, the important things. Wait. Oh, this is good, so we can use it. It's interesting that we can use it. the nzxt embedded here to feed our fans, yeah why don't we? You know what I really don't even know if I want to do that? Maybe just plug it into the motherboard. I'm talking about integrated motherboard control because you can even configure profiles in the BIOS and such, we actually have three separate options for fan control for this system just for the master cooler, the nzxt case and the asus motherboard. so let's go ahead and see how Asus has placed their plugs and then if they are okay then we will continue with that and if they are not then I will use the hub.
Anthony gave 10 and said: Hi Linus, can you? Try to find a smart cooling solution for MacBook Pro 2018 that has overheating issues. A smart cooling solution for the 2018 macbook. I actually had a few ideas. I think one thing we're going to do for sure is liquid metal, the only reason we hadn't liquid metalized our old one yet, so it's been on our content calendar for a while, um, was because our new designer it's a Mac and he's been using it so we couldn't get it from him so that's the Oh wow I plugged in the wrong connector.
I wanted to make the other one for this. Sorry, give me a second. Guys, um, so we're probably going to liquid metalize it and see how much that solves the problem and then from there, I actually have a couple more ideas, like thinking about a laptop cooling pad, but like You know, it's been a hit in the gym, so stay tuned for that, let's see what we can do. Turning to the freezer, as we've experienced in the past, using a computer in a refrigerator or freezer isn't really a good long-term solution, although I know, of course, that Dave Lee did it with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, you obviously know it's not a good solution, oh damn, I did it the right way, this is the problem, this is the problem with trying to do it live, okay, so this one is going to go up, here we go, so I'm connecting my two fans into two of my headers on the motherboard here, uh, the top fan goes to the top one, up there, and then the bottom one goes to the one down here, come on, this is some kind of motherboard.
Middle range. so it doesn't have a ton of fan connectors, it has a couple here, it's actually not bad, it has six, but I'm usually used to seeing more on the bottom edge here, it's a nice place to have them and I really like it. Alright, so what we need to do is bring the power back to our CPU pump and we're going to go ahead and connect it to the CPU fan, so I said I was going to connect the fans to the optional CPU, but actually I chose not to do it. do that because I forgot and now they're plugged in so oh you know what screw I'll do it man where's that stupid Y adapter?
Where did I put it? I think I may have dropped it, oh man, it's okay, here it is. So let's go ahead and disconnect those fans once again and we'll connect this to the CPU option on the other side. Why does anyone take my PC building advice again? Clearly, I have no idea what I'm doing, we should clarify that. You cannot win the

with an exclamation point in the chat. Yeah, that's not something that the draw has already been selected for. Yes, the winners already know the winner. We will let you know when we have finished building the machine. t spam exclamation mark giveaway does nothing um okay cool so that's there now so okay so this is good this is the cable that I explained before I explained why we have it I'm sorry I apologize but I'm not really Sorry, you guys knew that though okay, here we go, now we can get these bad boys up this thing with these Velcro ties that are actually going to handle the cables pretty well for us there.
I especially like, uh, these. kind of funny overlay, I'm not a big fan of that, but okay, okay, we can, we can work with that, we can definitely work with that, maybe we'll run it out there or something, come on, yeah, cool, it's well, that works, oh. That was exhausting, like you guys are probably exhausted just watching me do that, yeah it seems like there are only 24,000 of you watching now, you guys are tired of watching me install a CPU cooler and I don't blame you at all, it's horrible, but the good. The news is that that's not so bad, we actually managed to hide the vast majority of the cable.
Look, we can stick this little one coming out of the block here under this heat sink. It's a really nice little place to manage cables. We have the tubes, nothing. We can do that and then this Y wire here just wraps around the back and we can use it to hide the ugly little thinner wire behind it if we want, so it looks really clean, really clean from the front, oh , Alright. Kevin says: I love your channel and what you do doesn't mean you have any vacancies for a Test Manager in the UK. I don't know what a test manager is.
Presumably you handle the testing, so that's good. We do not administer tests. Maybe it's like a um, oh, like a reviewer, like a reference tester, no, okay, okay, I get it, so right now we're not planning to open a branch somewhere else, the tax implications behind that. They are actually incredibly complicated as far as possible. I tell him that most of the industry takes an approach of seeking forgiveness rather than permission, but that's not something we're comfortable with, like I like to do things by the rules. Okay, when it comes to business stuff, I like to do it by the book. book because a lot of people have stayed and I'm going to use kind of air quotes here, they've gotten screwed with taxes, a lot of small business owners and the reason they got screwed was because in a lot of cases they didn't stay.
Plus, they weren't doing things correctly as they went along, so what's going to happen is you're going to get hit with a gigantic tax bill that you didn't know you owed because you didn't do it correctly. There's a lot of interest because you didn't do it correctly and you won't have the money on hand because you haven't been managing your cash flow correctly and something that a lot of people don't realize is that I actually, you know, try to manage this business in a way that is sustainable long term and all that good stuff, and that matters a lot to me, so we really try to do everything by the book as much as possible.
Um, and it's not always possible, like sometimes, the hourly rate of the tax lawyer who can advise you on what to do in some strange case that you know is that you know more than you should have if someone came back to you for five years. later and I said, hey, you owe us this money and you say, well, you know, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it and we'll just pay it off with interest, what else are we supposed to do? I like it um, but a lot of things aren't like that, so we try our best, ah, what else do we have here?
Skrill. I love your videos and you inspired me to do my first psc at 13 years old. I read it? before lives like this our feature for linux tech tips considers hello from pl says kristoff pasder they are saying live builds like this for the future oh live builds are the future oh i don't know they are really stressful right ? to talk about the whole thing of being in front of the camera like you think it's comfortable, but only in certain situations, so one of the things that's not comfortable for me is, oh hell, I went and put the screws in for the Damn Well, one thing that is not comfortable for me are cameras and I joke about this with anyone who has ever seen me in person working on taking a miniature, for example, you put a video camera in front. about me, I feel pretty comfortable, I can do my thing, I can talk to the camera, I can, I can multitask, sometimes I make a mistake and use the wrong screw and put it on. the unit instead of the bottom of the case are threaded the same like nothing is ruined or something its just me wasting my time but im pretty good but then you go and put a camera in front of me and I just lock it like I have no idea what to do with my hands, I have no idea what face to make and I just think this is so awkward, save it, I hate this, so believe it or not, it's one of thethings we've resorted to around here is actually taking our thumbnails as video and then just taking a still image after the fact because we shot red.
This is not a good reason to buy a red camera, but because we shoot in red, which means 8k resolution. that we're really not compromising almost anything in terms of the image quality of our thumbnail by recording it with a video camera, even though it's not really designed for that, like you call red and say hey, so you know Let's buy a red gun and we will use it instead of a DSLR for photo shoots. They think you're drunk. They'd say it's the stupidest thing they've ever heard, and yet here we are. No wonder Red doesn't talk to us.
I actually had a conversation with Red the other day. I presented you with a crazy project that I sincerely hope you do. You know, leave the past in the past and work with us because that's the best thing you've ever done, let us, let us know in the comments, you guys want to see alignus tech tips, red digital cinema collaboration on something a little crazy , I would love, I would love to know what you imagine. It would be because it's something I suspect most of you wouldn't guess. It's pretty good, so what I'm doing now is installing the hard drive.
In this case, it is not a great hard drive installation experience. Personally I prefer that. here, so I personally prefer the plastic rails that you can slide the drives into from the back, but what this approach does with the little metal cage down here and all the screws is a couple of things, one is it gives you allows you to place a third unit. up on the top so it fits pretty good, you can screw it on with the little tabs on the side, then you can put two more down here so they get an extra unit and then number two is it requires the assembler to use everything. screws and nzxt have a very close relationship with ibuypower so they have a lot of people there with a proud pedigree of system builders and system builders know that nothing beats a screw if you have like you I know that rock, paper, scissors, screw, screw is the way to go if you want something to get to the end user without having completely fallen apart during shipping, so I understand why they did it, it's a little more complicated for me to put it together, but now whoever. win this machine and the monitor will have a working system when it arrives hopefully um so that's definitely a good thing so our drive is ready now we can grab a sata power harness so I think this unique modular harness really fits will take care of everything we need to connect it, our plugin with sata, so let's run a couple of things to get the nzxt fan controller hub in there so we can go ahead and I don't know, let's use let's say the third one for that one, we have our master cooling center down here, okay, that one goes on something like that, I'm actually going to use the third one for this drive here and then we have this drive here, you have to be very careful with these sata connectors, they're a little fragile, so which you just have to make sure you have them lined up exactly, they are coded to only go in one direction, just look closely and then push them in, don't push them up or down because if you do you will very likely break the connector. unit and generally costs more to try. replace that connector than it would be to just buy a new unit so bad timing I don't want to do that okay oh man look this is what I hate about these stupid little ones these stupid little rgb pins male to male. things that I just folded, that one basically doesn't do anything to it, okay, we can put it back and if anything, now that it's folded, it might stay a little better, they also come off very, very easily, it's quite frustrating, like that that we are.
I might have to take this off while I put it in, so let's put that baby in there, maybe I'll do a couple super chats while I run this stuff on the cable. uh, Mr. Cloud says that for five dollars, Mr. Cloud paid five. dollars just to burn less tips thank you Mr. Cloud for your contribution both monetary and intellectual to this conversation we're having here or this super talk so to speak uh what else do we have here? Eduardo says I still can't believe Linus can do all kinds of compilations, but I can't use a Mac.
Well, wait a minute. Okay, to be fair to me, if I have the power of Google on my side, I can use a Mac. I just don't use them every day. day and I haven't used one as a daily driver in probably about two and a half years, so let's see, leave your Windows computer for three years and then come back and remember how to do everything right. I want to see that before you burn me out on my Mac skills. Okay, yeah, I know I should probably be better as a technician, but it doesn't come up as often as the one time I do it.
I really need to use a Mac is when I'm working on a review of something and now that Alex handles most of the laptop stuff that comes even that doesn't come up that often so yeah Anthony made the imac pro so I've been live for an hour and 40 minutes, okay, believe it or not, we're actually surprisingly close to the end, it's hard to tell as you go, but it all comes together in the final moments, like we would Brandon me too. I always have this experience when we were filming build guides in the past, where we would say everything is like check, look at this like everything exploded all over the table, everything is a mess and then we would say wait a minute.
What I have to do is put the GPU. We're almost done. This is great, so the last things I have here I have to do my data for the hard drive, but I'm going to do it. That's later, because it's a particularly fragile connector, we don't want to hit it, so all I have to do is the front panel box connectors here, so what is this LED, where is the front power switch and Those things I don't know? I saw them and said: is there a story behind the orange brand? Oh Andrew, hello Andrew, yes there is a story behind the orange brand.
This is very funny. I have hardly built computers with any screwdriver other than the orange one, which was a gift I received. About 15 years ago and, uh, that orange brand came from my partner in crime at ncix, who helped me run the ncix tech tips channel by integrating that screwdriver I always had and refused to use anything but he integrated it in the ncix tech tips brand, so we had the blue and the yellow ncix and then we also had this screwdriver at the time because that was kind of like you know, it was kind of a meme status at the time That Linus Tech Tips was started and also became part of the Linus Tech Tips brand, so it all comes from that snap screwdriver that I used all the time.
There's nothing more sentimental about it than it was just the color. of my screwdriver so let's move on thank you Mr. Cloud um I won't forgive you so you know ah okay let's do our front USB 3 connector this guy is very fragile you gotta be careful with this one actually I don't do. I don't like the position of this connector and the way this case is designed here, they don't go together very well because it's a very bulky connector and a very bulky cable, so you can see that it will put some upward pressure if We, the cable management, we manage our cables very tight, so what we'll probably do is compromise on cable management and run our USB 3 connector through where we would normally run the GPU power. because the last thing I want is for someone to get this machine and their front USB 3 not working, it's better to compromise on cable management than to compromise the functionality of your machine, so let's go ahead and do that, I mean it's not the end of the world because we're going to hide it a little bit when we run those pci express cables, but I thought I'd acknowledge that now there's some possibility of a cloud. gaming video I'm glad you asked because we actually had a sponsor who runs a cloud gaming service reach out to us and we may be going to see their actual data center where cloud gaming is done so Stay tuned for what we have. our USB 2 header for that nzxt controller that's built in, so we're connecting it to our other USB 2 header, those are keyed, they only go one way, so we have, what do we have?
High definition HD audio, the highest definition audio. and it's funny, we don't even have the video industry to blame for this HD nonsense, the audio is fine so it plugs in there and it's encoded, it only goes in one direction, usually these are on the back bottom left of the motherboard and all the others. The USB stuff is on the bottom edge and this is something I haven't seen and don't really like nzxt normally. I think I have praised them a lot throughout this video for the good decisions they make when they are building their cases, this is not one of them, they have integrated all the front panel connectors, power reset and LEDs into one gear, which on the surface seems like a good idea and might even work today, although I will have to check the pins on this particular motherboard, but if you run into a situation where you need any other configuration and motherboards esp. between generations, they are not standard, reconfiguring this is a real pain, you can do it, you just need to take like with a pin, a needle or something, you lift these little flaps, take out the pins and then place them where you need them, but that's a lot more complicated, especially for experienced builders, where I can grab all the loose wires and tie them down. in my hand and put it all on myself, that's a lot more complicated than being able to reconfigure them as I need, so I'm going to go ahead and assume that the only button missing here is a reset switch and that everything else is connected correctly and I hope for the best, I mean, if the industry manages to standardize this, but even if it does, in case someone buys this case for a motherboard that is a couple of years old, it is something conceivable that could happen.
Um, I think it should probably be a few more years before that standard is done and integrated into a case, but I mean, I'm sure nzxt has his own thoughts on the situation and they disagree and that's okay. That's the beauty of the world we live in, people have the right to disagree and then I have the right to disagree again to your face, okay then this is over, everything looks pretty good, let's move on Let's go ahead and run this, um, this CPU. power connector on this one here sorry I'm probably in your way but there's nothing I can do about it we'll do it as fast as I can okay that's there now look at that brandon. it happened it happened we have all this kind of mess going on right now and everything and we're almost done it's time to do the graphics card I love it so oh before we do that yeah what are the parts options because the whole point here was that they made the part, oh yeah, no, I think the viewers did a great job of choosing the pieces.
That water cooler was a nightmare to install, but otherwise pretty good. Do you want to frame me for some free space? Yes, great because I won't need the table much anymore, thanks Brandon. Yeah, I thought they did a great job. I mean installing the water cooler was a nightmare but I'm sure we'll feel like it was all worth it once we see the rgb lighting effects and other than that I mean there's nothing here that I would really question I mean , they are all reputable brands, MSI graphics, Asus on the motherboard, Western Digital and Seagate for storage.
I think it will look really good when we do it. We're done, we turn this on and its performance will be fantastic as it is a good all-rounder. You could save some money. If you were building a pure gaming machine, you could probably save a few hundred dollars on this

setup

. If you say yes, I don't give a damn what it looks like, I don't care how well it performs and I don't care what the video playback times will be, you could save a significant amount of money, but this is more of an all-round machine that It'll work well across a wide spectrum of different workloads and look good doing it and run efficiently and all that kind of good stuff, so it's got a lot of nice extras. even if you don't necessarily need them all, oh so this was the only rgb cooler that was an option, okay people have spoken, rgb is in brandon, do you want to just grab this?
Do you just want to control the angles? Why do we let me do this? Yes, yes, we are going to do the final installation of the component. Well seriously, I'm not a fan of the way these pci slots are configured in this case, this is not my favorite. What always happens to me is that all thisa lot of people have asked me how we do our audio because they can't see the microphone. I have a complete system. Hey, have there been any comments on my shirt? Does anyone even? I realized that today I am representing the player nexus.
I don't know, oh, okay, yeah, I don't know. I chose this today because I thought, hey, we're doing a livestream, maybe I'll do it, maybe I'll represent it. the nexus players uh what else do we have? adding a figure of Linus. Oh, okay, so those figures, those 3D printed figures that LG has sent me over the years, one of them we auctioned off for charity at ltx last year, if I remember correctly, one of them is. I left and stayed with the other one just because I don't know. It's a great memory of this period of my life.
You know, when I'm old and irrelevant and my grandchildren can't relate to me. You already know. I can show you that figure which is pretty much the way I imagine it um so if one wasn't really in play those would be pretty expensive to replace and you also know meaning is hard to replace um I want to. I want to take a selfie with the photo or with the selfie with the photo I want to take a selfie with the system, but let's do it, that was one of the suggestions, yeah, okay, I can post that, okay, I have a selfie. with my system taking them live selfies.
I've actually been coached on my selfie game by people who have attended conventions or who I've met at shows and stuff because apparently I'm not that good at it, so that's good to know, thanks guys. I think that ends it if I didn't get to your super chat at this point. I think all I can do is sincerely apologize because I suck. I'll do a couple more before Wow yeah thanks of course for the support she had no idea what she did this super chat or whatever um nhd15 should I get an aio of water? says andre no nhg 15 is an excellent aviation professional, oh he jumped in the deep end, okay let's do some. the recent, uh, Janice Janziboy, PC inside an old CRT Ultimate Sleeper.
Yes, we are considering that we are working on that. We're actually actively working on that Doris. I need to know how to solve that crisis problem. Sorry, I don't have anything. For you, hey Linus, today is my birthday, I have 300 dollars, what's the best keyboard and headphones I can get? Okay, headphones, super personal keyboard, if you want wireless, Corsair has a really good wireless mechanical gaming keyboard. Personally, I'm biased. to anything with cherry mx browns, but I'm a bit of a gamer mostly typist, if you're more of a gamer a lot of people recommend the red ones, I personally hate them and if you're a pure typist then and you don't have people around you get mad at you then the blues It's a good option uh Sean Parks says Linus what are you using to make your dyno hard drive?
I thought you can't take a hard drive from a different PC with Windows already installed. A common mistake in most cases, you can do that, it doesn't really matter and Windows will do that: it will detect new hardware on first boot, but a lot of times, if you don't like going from AMD to Intel, it will. Do it great Tyler says take me there and show me around Tyler for 10 bucks unfortunately I can't but you know you might have a chance in the future. We are going to do some gifts that will involve traveling. here and build a machine with me uh canvas for five euros says it's not really related to this build, but the xiaomi mix 2s is still your daily driver no, uh now I'm using the samsung galaxy s9 plus uh for a thousand dollars, can I be ? a lifetime member for seaplane probably that works in our favor, I think yeah, yeah, that works in our favor, I think you're better off with the three bucks a month or even five when it probably gets to that, yeah, uh waffle. says you're great i love your videos thanks waffle uh henry says okay 200 to 270 gpu look I only look at gpu prices when I'm working on a project so I'm going to guess gtx 2 gtx 1060 three gigs not knowing if that's it really that price huh but that's a really good value unless the 1050 ti is pretty good rx 570 and 580 are good values assuming the miners don't increase the price let's see how much a 1063 gig costs from 240 to 270 nailed it, come on Linus, it's your birthday, from Kamloops with love, Alex says, hello Kamloops, you know, Kamloops, uh, I was actually in Kamloops once when I saw him like a drug addict, you came out of an alley in front of me and then it literally happened.
As he was standing in front of me, he was like 11 at the time, it was a big, very traumatic story, um, yeah, people rushed to help him. You know, the good people of Kamloops were there, they were on top of it, so that was it really. Well uh Kelvin sent 20 bucks saying I'm still trying to get rid of that bean bag you tried to throw away when adjusting. They in Vancouver maybe they can use a bean bag chair if not I tried it you know what Calvin sure sure , you can come pick it up. The email we've included on the YouTube channel and say I said you could have it, but I'm going to have to provide verification that this is actually your YouTube account, so there you go, so I think we're going to cut the broadcast now, we're going to have everyone come in and sign this after saying thank you.
Thank you very much guys for your patience, how long have we been? uh, two hours and 23 minutes, thanks to LG for sponsoring this ultra wide live version and, uh, thanks to Brandon for putting up with being the camera guy, the audio guy, the live video switcher guy. Lighting guy, am I missing something? You're a grip guy too, yeah, like moving up the ladder and stuff. So, in peace guys, see you on our next live stream, which might take another year, I don't know. It's been over a year I think I mean how was the super chat today we could do it more often yeah I could do them more often let you guys vote on the components um brandon you got my uh you got my uh, uh, I can.
I won't end the broadcast yes, yes, yes, yes, or okay, yes, I can do it. Do you know how to stop it? No, it's okay, it's okay.
