Feb 27, 2020
so this is the new mid-engine. I see eight Corvettes. The first time I've been in this car so far, I've taken it easy and enjoyed its surprisingly comfortable nature, but of course you can't forget it, lurking right t

. On your shoulder you can see that the thing is the classic all-American 6.2-liter V8 muscle in this type of car with a not-very-American mid-engine design. The 6.2 liter v8 has 495 horsepower and 474 cand with the z51 package this car just happens to go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. It has an 8-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. It's all new for the Corvette, so I know you have a water bottle

instead of a shifter, so some people are going to bother me about that.

I like the old 7 speed manual transmission in the old C7, but this is a very good transmission around town. It really behaves like a normal automatic. You'd never think it's dual clutch. there's no excessive shaking of the keys or anything like that, but then it actually engages the shifts very impressively, like these big, thick paddles mounted on this non-round, half steering wheel, it's a little ridiculous, but it works well and holds forward visibility. and it gives us some room here for your legs. This is one of three seats available in this car. Personally, I think the bottom is a little tight.

It would be nice to adjust the bottom just like the side bolsters do, but the driving position is really good. Great, I'm 6ft 3, I have tons of room in this car, in fact I could move the seat further back, I don't have to, and even if I managed to do it you'd hit your head on the windshield or roof. something like you did in the Acura NSX the original I liked that car I liked this car - this kart reminds me of the original NSX in fact there is a new one how about that but in the same way that it is an everyday Supercar, so it has useful front and rear trunks, you can use them, it's surprisingly comfortable, it's easy to drive and it's also a fantastic performance machine and in that way it reminds me more of that NSX than a Corvette, but

what

it doesn't remind me of. of an NSX and it reminds me of a Corvette is this that's good that is this that's really good the interior this new vet is not only a radical departure from the old Corvette and all those that came before it, thank goodness, but it is a departure from everything that's in the way and that's really cool as this is a mid-engine supercar and a mid-engine supercar should just be boring, small, weird, crazy, special, it should be an event when you You put this big guest here in the car with all the climate control buttons, they work fine.

I like the buttons. I don't want to get into a screen, especially when you're driving a mid-engine sports car. If you're focused on driving, if you want the cooled seat up, we'll press a button, so let's go. here you have this type of palm rest that you can control the touch screen, it's a great feature because if you're in a car you know it's a great ride for a supercar, don't get me wrong, but there's a little bit more. moving and moving than you would in an Impala and anchoring your hand to it makes it easier to press things, it also hides the drive mode selector so now we're in sport but if you're going touring that applies to different calibers. on the

y digital gauge cluster, three different designs sport and then tracked now, one of the things about this car is the rear view is atrocious, you can't really see anything, yet these giant sail panels over the engine are the view from normal mode.

The rear view mirror just glares on the windshield so it is installed as standard here is the camera based rear view mirror system when I drove this on the Cadillac ct-6 for the first time I was a little surprised the focal point is different each mirror you have. ever used and when something is no different from something you didn't really pay attention to, it can scare you, but it's kind of a necessity in this car and it sure beats taking a good look at a bunch of reflections and stuff like that. A mailbox view in terms of material quality to be generous has not been the Corvette's most positive attribute over the years.
This is a big improvement. Its Alcantara all around has leather covering the dash, it has yellow stitching and it's not just some nice covering materials. some kind of blatant plastic, I know, they've elevated everything, but beyond

what

it was before Chevy said if it looks like metal it's men, so here we are on day two with the c8 here in green Pahrump Nevada and Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club, this of course is the c8 and we're kind of in an autocross, kind of get to know you laps for this car that we're then going to take to the big track here and frankly, around an autocross He's just kind of a kid.
Play for a high performance machine this car is now this orange car doesn't have the magnetically controlled suspension the fourth version of GM's Mag Ride that car does, so we'll see that the differences between the two brakes work well. We're doing launch control. What you do to activate it is put it in track mode and then press the traction control button twice to activate it. It's in competition mode and you don't have to reset it every time. Put your left foot on the brake all the way and then up the revs to about 3600rpm, leave it there for a while, take off and bam, we're going good, so I just did our hot laps in the c8.
We're just going to do a cool down lap, let's go over a couple of things: the engine and the transmission. It's a bit interesting to drive a mid-engined car these days that isn't turbocharged and isn't actually a high-revving Porsche engine. so having a v8 makes it inherently different, so smooth that you don't need to shift much, but I did notice that in automatic mode it might slow down at somewhat odd times, whereas PDK or, say, a Mercedes AMG transmission, He knows exactly when to do it. and there were times in this where I thought I could override the steering of the cybot, specifically the steering wheel, it has this weird three and a half, eight and a half steering position and after a couple of turns my wrist started moving. hurt I'm not really a fan of this in retrospect the steering itself is very good I like that it is very consistent in its effort very linear the weight is really spot on not too heavy not too light really very well made is it just as safe?
Not talkative like a Porsche Cayman gt4, but that's a pretty high bar. The balance of this car, talking about a Cayman, I mean this is a mid-engined car, you absolutely feel the car turning around you it's very easy in a long corner, just maintain your steering angle and direction with the accelerator exactly what you want, I didn't really have any difficult times, it kind of speaks to how much weight is in the back if you are tall like me or as tall as me, you might have a hard time fitting in with the helmet on. I was sitting too far forward to avoid hitting the roof and rear headrest, so let's talk about the brakes.
Several laps stayed nice and tight. The other thing is that I really like the position. It's very left-foot braking friendly, which if you're going to have an automatic car on a race track, left-foot braking is exactly what you want to do, you'll go faster, so good job, Corvette, on the holding seats. you're in your place and these are the basic seats that I was driving so they still have adjustable bolsters but they don't squeeze your butt like the competition so you can stay absolutely fine with the basic seats even if you're going to go to a race track, it is very easy to place the car.
You know exactly where the road is. You're no different from the old Corvette, you don't have a million engine miles in front of you, so generally as a track car, just the regular Corvette and we know more powerful versions are coming, but the regular Corvette Stingray with the disease package 51 it's a pretty easy car to drive very fast it's rewarding it sounds great they're looking for a car that's a performance bargain yes more than ever
